Our group was impressed by all the dishes we tried. Our server highly recommended the pork ribs, and my picky husband did agree that they were delicious. My grilled chicken salad was better than average, too.

Thursday night special "fish n chips" grouper

Everything was amazing as always. If you like salad, get the garden salad. I love the ranch, but my mother in law swears by the champagne vinaigrette.

Nice spot a little off the beaten path. Food was pretty good, although we were really bummed you cannot get much Italian food/ pasta with the lunch menu. We got a pizza and as New Yorkers were quite impressed with the quality, considering we were in the south. Others in the group had sandwiches and fries which were tasty and fresh. Most of the lunch menu was unfortunately bar style food, rather than nicer restaurant food. Staff were very friendly and kind.

Chicken amatriciana

Overall pretty good food close to Smith Mountain Lake. We ordered the firecracker shrimp (the overall favorite), crab dip, shrimp scampi, and the chicken amatriciana. This firecracker shrimp is hands down the best thing we got - the shrimp was sauced up and it wasn't too spicy but had a great flavor nonetheless. The crab dip was alright, it could have used a bit more seasoning but it was hot and the bread served with it was good. Both the shrimp scampi and the chicken amatriciana were not as sauced up as I would have preferred. The flavor of the scampi was wine and lemon heavy and the shrimp was overcooked unfortunately. I didn't eat the last 4 shrimp as it was just unpleasant to chew. The chicken amatriciana was just alright. The flavor was okay, the chicken was a bit dry and it the dish had a lot going on. Will probably come back but order different entrees!

We were out scouting investment properties in Moneta, VA today. Many restaurants in the area were closed. Thankfully, Napoli Cowboy was open. We were greater warmly and seated quickly. Our server introduced herself with a smile and kind words. I asked what their best selling lunch items were: Meatball & Parm grinder and Reuben. We ordered both. Both sandwiches were served with excellent coated fries. My wife's Reuben was made with real corned beef. She graded hers a 5 out of 5. I had the Meatball Grinder. It was OK. The meatballs were sourced from a bag coated with too much Parmesan. The grinder would have been enhanced by slices of Mozzerela rather than mounds of Parm. We are great full for the warm, freshly prepared lunch in the mountains.

The noise was overpowering. It was not a place for a nice Saturday evening dinner. The food was OK.

After finding out that I was selected as number 4 of the Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a…read moreyear when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award, I decided to celebrate this special occasion by having dinner at Frankie Rowland's Steakhouse in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This well-regarded, upscale steakhouse, received The Roanoker Magazine's 2025 Platinum Award for Best Steakhouse in Roanoke City, and is considered a premier dining destination in the area, offering a high-end experience with a focus on quality cuts of meat and a sophisticated atmosphere, though at a higher price point. I made a reservation through the Open Table app for this Wednesday at 5:00pm, dining opening time, for table 85, which was the table I sat at the last time I dined there. This is one of only two tables next to a window in the back of the restaurant. I invite you to view the photographs accompanying my last review, when it was still light out, to see the window view I had from there. When I arrived, a friendly young lady greeted me and looked up for my reservation at the Host's station computer. She then took my coat, hanged it up and gave me a ticket for it. There was a beautiful waiting area with hunter green leather furniture, in front of an elegant designed bar. When my table was ready, she led me to my table. Soon after, my server Logan, another friendly and hospitable young lady, introduced herself and explained the menu and special of the day. To drink, I ordered a Strawberry Mockito Mocktail. For appetizer, I ordered the Seared Sea Scallops with a Parmesan Cognac Sauce. And as my main entrée, I combined a Live Maine Baked Lobster with a Certified Angus 14oz Beef Filet, cooked medium-rare, with an Idaho Baked Potato and Sautéed Mushrooms as sides. The Strawberry Mockito Mocktail tasted just right. Every bite of the scallops in that sauce was an absolute delight. Expensive, but priceless at the same time! The succulent lobster meat, all out of the shell, came with a little bowl of warm butter for dipping. The Filet was cooked perfectly medium-rare, with a warm, red center, as requested. No wonder this place is famous for the quality of its meats and cooking method. For the Grand Finale of my meal, I had a Bread Pudding made with Krispy Kreme donuts, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. All the servers worked as a team, and came by to fill my glass with iced water.as soon as it was half empty. My server also came by at the right times to see how I was doing and check to see if I needed anything. Even with the restaurant full with several large groups dining there, the Restaurant Manager, John Catron, came by my table to say hello and chat with me for a while. This restaurant has class, providing an exceptional dining experience, like no other.

First off, I asked for no cheese on my eggs for the steak and eggs, a $52 dish. I was told "no "substitutions". It's not a substitution, I asked that they leave cheese off. Nope, not possible. Instead I opted for the "churro French toast", which was bland, soggy French toast without any churro flavor, accompanied by either pre-cooked or microwaved bacon. Hardly worth $34. The waitress clearly didn't want to be there - complete lack of personality, bordering on a poor attitude. What should have been a nice brunch for the two moms in attendance was done in 45 minutes. This place needs to stick to dinner because clearly brunch is not in their wheelhouse. The restaurant itself is nice and in a great area, and the bar looks like it would be a great spot for drinks and appetizers, but I'm not sure I would go back.

Kaitlin was the bartender and she also waited on me. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The bird-watcher drink she made me was SO delicious. I had the Kapsalon appetizer as my meal. It's kind of like a chicken shawarma salad over hand cut fries with a creamy herb dressing. Seating was flexible, I had the choice of outside back patio, inside at a table, or inside on a couch in the studio. I picked the couch and felt comfortable like at home. The whole place is very cool. I plan on staying here again for future work trips and will definitely try a lunch here sometime this week.

Set inside an old firehouse, at the back of a high end furniture store, this place made me feel like I was having a night out in a big city. My husband and I at sat at the bar and ordered pork schnitzel with warm potato salad and hanger steak with frites smothered in gouda cheese sauce. The pork and steak were cooked perfectly! The hanger steak tasted like a much more expensive cut of meat so clearly this is not the chef's first rodeo. And that cheese sauce was ridiculous. My husband enjoyed their $9 happy hour old fashioned and I loved my glass of cab sauv from Fableist. Our server gave us the perfect amount of attention as well. I neglected to take more pictures of the space but, it's gorgeous. This is a Roanoke gem for sure!

Instead it had a tiny smear of what I'm assuming was cocktail sauce. I tried the cheesecake bread pudding which was their bread pudding of the day. Overall it was good. I wouldn't have minded more cream cheese and was kind of disappointed the strawberries came out with the leaves still attached. At this price point, I don't want to have to remove things on my own. Old Oak Cafe is situated in a strip shopping center, but is designed to make you feel like you've stepped into someone's home. The back room houses a faux (I assume) fireplace and round oak dining tables. The southern hospitality we received from the staff is as inviting as the space. They also have a large bookshelf of children's picture books and activities. So thoughtful and a wonderful option for tablet-free families. Our first visit was around 11:30 am on a Sunday and there was about a 20-min wait with the post-church crowd. The interior waiting space was full so we opted to wait outside. They offer a buffet breakfast on the weekends for $14.99. It looked to have biscuits and gravy, eggs, a variety of meats and fruit. We opted for menu options. I noticed they offered foam plates for buffet-goers, which made me cringe. I hope they will consider changing to something more environmentally-friendly. We were greeted as soon as we sat and offered coffee. Our server on both visits were incredibly kind! On Sunday, our server was a bit slower with coffee refills, but it was incredibly busy so I understood why. On our first visit, hubs had the cinnamon sweet potato pancakes while I chose multigrain. Both were so fluffy and delicious! The sweet potato pancakes drew us back the next day. They were topped with a cinnamon sugar butter and fresh pecans. The flavor was out of this world! Even the multigrain pancakes were light, fluffy and so yummy. I got blueberry pancakes on my 2nd trip and wish I had ordered these. The blueberry, while tasty, were more dense and not quite as flavorful. The Sweet Potato and Multigrain pancakes are worth 5 stars alone, but the service and value set Old Oak Cafe over the top. I'm ready to plan another trip to SML solely for this breakfast!
