After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Inka Grill Peruvian Cuisine in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. I've been eating at this restaurant since they were in another location and then through Door Dash delivery, as a matter of fact the main photograph on their Yelp website is a close-up of their Lomo Saltado I took from the container delivered through Door Dash. So today I decided to go visit for the first time their Cave Spring location on Brambleton Ave in Roanoke, Virginia. Located inside a small, clean building, but nothing fancy, the success of this restaurant has been the fresh ingredients they use to make their wonderful recipes. My two favorite dishes are the Lomo Saltado and their Bistec a lo Pobre. And the main reason why I like them is the top quality meat they use. It is so tender and tasty and at reasonable prices, that can compete with many of the most expensive restaurants in the area, and come on top. When I arrived at the restaurant there was a group of three Hispanic ladies having dinner there. Later an American older couple with a college age daughter also came in and sat at the table text to mine. They all seemed to have something in common: steady customers very familiar with the menu and their favorite items. My server Lizbeth greeted and welcomed me to the restaurant, took me to my table, and handed me the menu. Not too extensive but each of the few items were much to be desired. To drink I had a glass of Chicha Morada, a very popular non-alcoholic drink from Peru. As an appetizer I had a House Salad. For my main entrée I had a Bistec a lo Pobre cooked medium rare. It is rice and beans together forming a roll, a tender thick steak, fried ripe plantains, a fried egg, and a criolla sauce. Everything was so tasty and delicious. And for dessert I had the Tres Leche. It is said that a picture is work a thousand words. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourself, the amazing food. I highly recommend this restaurant to all. Once you try their amazingly delicious food, you will want to come back for more.

They are a masa dough cakes (cornmeal flour) that is mixed with water to make a corn masa mixture; thick griddle cake or flatbread They are usually stuffed with delicious things like refried beans, shredded pork, or cheese. Pupusas are traditionally served with curtido, a pickled cabbage slaw, and salsa roja, a tomato-based sauce. Pupuseria is the restaurant that specializes in making and selling pupusas. Just as Taqueria specializes in making and selling tacos. But also can have other items in the menu. Today a friend of mine and myself decided to go try them out for the first time at the Pupuseria Las Delicias in Roanoke, Virginia. This restaurant is housed in a white one storage building with the top painted light blue and white, the colors of the El Salvador flag. In front of the building they have a cozy cemetery outdoor dining area to use in good weather. As we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by a young Salvadorian lady who took us to our table and handed us copies of their menu. It was short but with enough items for an opportunity to taste and enjoy Salvadorian food and some non-alcoholic drinks as well. We both ordered an Horchata cold drink and as our main course the Chicharron con Queso (Pork with Cheese) Pupusas. They were served 3 on a plate, accompanied by a jar of curtido mentioned earlier here. I liked the thick texture and the corn, cheese, and pork flavors. The curtido was the perfect side item. And what impressed me most was how filling they were. Since there were no dessert listed on the menu, I already had planned to go elsewhere for dessert. It was a nice first experience having this national dish from El Salvador and I recommend all those reading my review to visit this restaurant and try them out, as well as some of the other items on the menu. You will certainly come out satisfied.

It's a restaurant with an amazing Hispanic food menu, serving the most popular cuisines from Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador. This local, woman owned restaurant had it's humble beginnings from a food truck, and now it finally has a location of its own. Conveniently located in one of the establishments on the popular Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia, the restaurant enjoys a large dining space as well as a nice size space along side it to rent for private parties as well. This room contains a music and disco lighting system, as well as it's being prepared with a full bar. The restaurant was easy to find because its front exterior is painted purple with a yellow and gray awning, and it's almost across the street from the 7-11 on Williamson Road. There are plenty of parking up front and around the restaurant. As you enter the restaurant through a couple of glass doors, there is small foyer painted bluishgreen with a large gold WELCOME sign high above on the wall, a mirror, a glass table with a lamp and a hand ornament doing the shape of a heart, and some kind of an artificial plant inside a long pot. Then as you senter the restaurant itself it is painted the same color with a long beautiful granite floor (the type you would find in Latin countries) with many live plants next to the front window. As I walked through the long and narrow dining room of the restaurant with booths on the walls of both sides and tables with chairs in the middle they was a family eating on one of the booths and another customer was leaving with a To Go orders. At the end there was a counter where a friendly young lady greeted me and told me to have a seat at any table when I told her I was eating in. I went and sat at a booth. The colorful menus were already on the table of the booth. All the main items listed had photos and descriptions of them which helped greatly for the customers who weren't familiar identify them. I was surprised to find many popular dishes of other Hispanic countries besides Mexico on the menu. Items such as Baleadas, Pupusas, Tajadas con Carne Molida, to name a few. Then my server arrived with a basket of Tortilla Chips, greeted me with a smile and asked what I wanted to drink. I asked her what fruit drinks they had and when she mentioned Mango, I asked for one of those, even if it wasn't on the menu. When she came back with it I ordered El Cipote as my main entrée. It seems like this is a popular Honduran dish. I invite you to view my photographs of the menu to read and see all the items it contained. I wasn't about to visit a Taqueria restaurant for the first time and not try their tacos, so I asked my server if they could prepare me a couple of pork tacos as an appetizer. She was so accommodating that she went to the kitchen and in a reasonable time brought the tacos to me. They looked beautiful and tasted amazingly delicious, full of plenty of meat, and accompanied by cooked onions and a slice of lime. Their Chips with Salsa were also very good and unique. The chips were thicker than any other I've ever had and the salsa had just the right thickness and flavor with little chunks of the ingredients as well. When my main entrée arrived it looked like a Culinary Masterpiece. It was served on a long circular wooden tray and contained: fried pork chunks served with rice with pigeon peas, beans, sweet fried (ripe) plantains, sausage (chorizo), pico de gallo, jalapeño, and corn tortillas. Each item tasted amazingly delicious and together they made for a wonderful dining experience. I believe any day can be made special with a wonderful meal. And this was precisely one of the few restaurants where I have experience this happen. For dessert I ordered a flan, after walking over to the dessert display refrigerator and seeing the size and look of the flan. It was the largest and one of the better tasting flan that I've ever had. While I was dining I noticed that the restaurant had an adjacent party room that they rented out for functions or parties. It had a wonderful music and disco lighting system, as well as a full bar at the end. (They are in the process of obtaining their liquor license). I asked if they could turned the lights and music on so I could get some video clips to include in this review. Watch the clips for yourself. Amazing music sound and colorful lighting system. After I paid the bill with my credit card at the cashier counter, I thanked the manager, who by the way had come by my table to say hello and to see that everything was to my satisfaction, and took my doggy bag they had prepared for me to take home with the food I couldn't eat there, and walked outside to take a look at a truck that I had seen parked their selling some type of fruits. It seems they had a custm In conclusion, I highly recommend this restaurant for all the above reasons.

Yet during the first half of Hispanic Heritage Month this year, I so happened to discover this hidden gem of a restaurant and Roanoke's Best Kept Secret! After being awarded the Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And the Super Amanecer Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. It's interesting what led me to this restaurant in the first place. I was talking with a Salvadorian young lady who's very kind and hardworking mother raised 7 children of her own in this country; and she told me that whenever she wants to treat her mother out to eat and asks her where she would like to go, her answer is always: "Al Super Amanecer." Located in Town Square Shopping Mall, a strip mall in Northwest Roanoke, Virginia, featuring a variety of shops, restaurants and other establishments, the Gran Amanecer II Restaurant and Market offers a diverse selection of Latin America comfort foods in a casual and relaxing environment. It has an ample parking lot, where many Hispanics gather in the late afternoon to socialize with their families and friends after work while enjoying some comfort food like pupusas or tamales, or tropical flavor ice-creams in or around their cars. Inside the Restaurant / Market is like another world. They are separated by an entryway and both the restaurant and market have the largest variety of Latin American food than any other place in Roanoke, Virginia. When I entered the restaurant, I was greatly impressed with its cleanliness, simple decor, cozy ambiance, and extensive menu. A friendly young lady greated me at the Host's station and after finding out that I spoke Spanish, asked me where I wanted to sit. I sat at a booth next to the window and then moved to a table because the sun was getting in my eyes. The menu had a great variety of Latin American dishes from places like Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina, and Honduras, among other places. To drink I ordered a Maracuya (Passion Fruit) drink. And as my main entrée I order their Parrillada. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. This dish included chicken, steak, shrimps, 2 chorizos, lime, avocado, roasted jalapeño, rice, refried beans, and pico de gallo. All the meats were quality and cooked to perfection in such a way that it brought out their flavor. For the Grand Finale of this exquisite meal I had Churros with a scoop of ice-cream. They were amazingly delicious though a bit overcooked, thus too crunchy, and lacked the sugar on top, but were decorated so amazingly well, with chocolate and caramel syrup and a cherry, that I enjoyed eating them. Afterwards I went to visit their Supermarket and it too was the greatest thing I've ever seen in Latin American Markets. It had hard to find product at your fingertips, and others you didn't even know they existed. In the back they even had their very own meat department with the meats in the display cases looking tender and fresh In conclusion I highly recommend this restaurant and market for their variety of quality food and products cooked extremely well, and served by friendly staff providing excellent customer service, and an extraordinary dining experience.

Yet very few of us are aware of its taste as we are of other Latin American cuisines such as the Colombian and the Venezuelan. Today I decided to go visit one of the few local Honduran Restaurants in the area to experience first hand the flavor of this cuisine. El Paraiso Homduran Restaurant is a small restaurant specializing in Honduran and Latin American cuisine, located on Williamson Road among other Latin American restaurants. When I arrived the front of the restaurant was a simple architectural structure painted green with two glass doors in the middle, two medium windows on their sides, and a large simple sign of the name of the restaurant high above the entrance doors. When I entered the restaurant it had beautiful hardwood floors with brown booths on each side and a row of tables and chairs in the middle. Each booth had a ceiling lamp in the form of a barrel hanging down and the place was decorated very simple with large framed artworks hanging from the walls on both sides. A small bar was located at the end with a creative artistic representation of a Hunduran map hanging from the wall in front of the bar. A warm Honduran lady came out to greet and welcome me. She asked me to take a seat and handed me a copy of the menu which was a colorful laminated one sheet of paper listing a few items on both sides. She was surprised that I spoke Spanish and this made her feel more comfortable as I found out that she would also be my waitress. To drink I ordered a glass of Orchata. To eat, instead of the typical Pupusas or Baleadas, I went a bit further and order dishes that would allow me to have a better taste of their cuisine. As an appetizer I ordered the Chicharron con Yuca. The Spanish word chicharrones translates to "pork cracklings" or "pork scratchings" in English. It is a dish made from fried pork skin or pork belly. Ideally it is crunchy and tasty on the outside of the piece of fried skin, and meaty on the inside with a piece of flavorful pork. For my main course I ordered the Fajitas Mixta with Steak, Shrimp, and Chicken. I waited for a while and was surprised when the appetizer arrived with perfect chunks of Chicharrones. Like I explained before, crunchy on the outside and meaty in the inside. Since I moved to Roanoke I hadn't been able to find this quality of Chicharron, and cooked to perfection. Just as I was starting to enjoy my appetizer, my waitress comes out with my main dish as well. The Fajitas were sizzling on top of the skillet and looked absolutely amazing. But cooking and bringing them out so soon interrupted the enjoyment of eating my appetizer and prevented from me savoring my main course while it was the hottest. However, both the quality of the ingredients of the Fajitas and the way they were seasoned and cooked were just perfect. The salad accompanying my main meal was fresh and refreshing. The refried beans were very tasty, and even the white rice tasted great. Although the waitress confessed to me that this was not the type of rice they usually served. They usually served one called Jasmin rice, but had ran out. With so much food I asked for a container to take some home. Especially because I wanted to have space for dessert. To me a meal isn't complete without a sweet and tasty dessert. When I ask the waitress what they had for dessert or if she can give me the dessert menu, she told me they had none. That they were not used to having dessert. What a bummer! I would definitely recommend the owner of this restaurant to include some dessert items. I cannot believe a cuisine that didn't include some typical traditional desserts. After all the Latin American cuisines come from the influence of our mother homeland of Spain. Most of our cuisines have at least Flan, Natilla, or Arroz con Leche. After I ask for the bill, my waitress asks me to come to the bar to pay. That is where they had a very modern cash register and she imputed the items I had for dinner. I gave her my credit card and she processed it. She handed me the receipt and without looking at it too much, I wrote the tip, signed it, and gave it back to her, keeping the customer's copy. Later at home I take a closer look and find out that I was charged an 18% Service Charge. Yet at the bottom of the receipt it States that "For parties of 3 or larger, a 18% gratuity is applied automatically. Clearly I was overcharged on this my first visit to this restaurant. I hope that when the manager reads this review he or she would take action to remedy the concerns that I have had in the positive feedback that I have provided because otherwise I have found their food to be exquisite and would happily return and recommend this restaurant.

Hidden in a tiny spot off Williamson Road in Roanoke Virginia is the Pupuseria La Chalateca. And the Pupuseria La Chalateca in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. The Spanish word La Chalateca refers to a woman from Chalatenango, a department orbits in El Salvador. This Food Truck is owner and operated by a really nice woman from that part of El Salvador, and thus its name. Her sister also works with her here. Located in a small area next to La Oficina Latina, one can hardly notice the Food Truck there. But I followed it's address on my GPS and it lead me to its location with a small three car parking lot, but with plenty of areas to park in its surroundings. As soon as I arrived I walked to the Food Truck which had the menu painted on the truck itself with painted photos of each item. As I was reviewing the menu a very friendly lady opened the window of the Food Truck and gave me a very warm greeting and welcome. I immediately talked to her in Spanish and she was relieved that I spoke her language. After some talk I ended up ordering Pupusas with Chicharron (pork) and Queso (cheese). And to drink I ordered an Horchata. (A typical drink of the area). A pupusa from El Salvador is the nation's beloved national dish: a thick, hand-formed corn tortilla filled with various ingredients like cheese, beans, or pork, then cooked on a griddle until browned. Traditionally served with a tangy cabbage slaw called "curtido" and a mild tomato salsa. In front of the Food Truck was a wooden picnic table with an umbrella to protect customers from the sun. So there was where I ate my food as soon as it was done. The pupusas were the best that I have ever tasted. They were hot, moist and tasty. Who would ever have imagined that food this good would have come out of this food truck! While I was eating several To Go customers ordered and took took their food to go. So obviously the place had already a good clientele. The owner told me that she is looking for a brick and motor place to open a restaurant there. I told her with this excellent cooking I'm sure she'll do well there. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Salvadorian cuisine. The owner/chef, not only is very friendly and has a wonderful personality, but cooks amazingly good. I myself am looking forward to returning real soon to try out her other items from the menu.

My server goes to the kitchen to see if this was possible, but comes back saying it would be a $2.95 extra to include the black beans. I told her to go ahead. When the food comes out she puts it on the table and leaves. I thought she went to get the black beans but they never arrive. The food looks great but when I cut the steak it was well done and I asked for medium rare. When she goes to bring something to another table I called her and tell her about the steak and the black beans that was missing. She offers to make me another steak but the piece of meat tooked so well and I was so hungry that I decided to eat it like that. She repeated that the black beans would be an extra charge. I told her I didn't mind. She finally brings me the black beans. The beans themselves were a bit hard and not as tasty. The ones I had at Panera Bread the other day were 100% better, but I pour them on top of the rice and eat them like this. For dessert I ordered a Passion Fruit Mousse. It was good but a bit dry and lacked sugar. I still enjoyed my meal but can't understand why they always overcook the steak when medium rare taste so much better.
