Quick service but not pushy on drinks. A great 2 page menu of local fare provides fried, grilled or shared plates of pupus or full meals. Love the piping hot crinkle cut fries that come with our local Maui blend of mustard and mayo. Best value on the island. Free parking in the back and incognito back entrance. Hint: Watchale for karaoke later in the evening. When that starts it gets a bit loud and I don't remember Whitney wannabes belting out Auto-tuned hits.

When we came in (around 9:15 on a Friday night), the place was packed. We ended up sharing a table with a nice couple and the bartender/server came right out and took our orders. Karaoke was happening and after a guy finished his song, I took my turn. Crowd was super fun and appreciative. My husband and one other gal at our table also sang a few songs as well. The ladies room here was also super clean! Anyway, if you're looking for a relaxed karaoke atmosphere in a place with good drinks and friendly people I highly recommend Lava's.

When it opened it drew lots of friendly attention as the only place to get a drink once the open beer garden closed down on Wailuku First Fridays. A few days later, we all came back and brought more friends. Yeah, it's just that kind of place! Every time we came in, the bouncer, wait staff, and bartenders were welcoming and totally on it. The drinks were spot on (why no pics? We were too busy drinking!) and the food hit the spot. Both karaoke KJs were welcoming, organized, and talented singers. Songs are texted in using the well placed codes about the bar. Many of my friends sang on the different nights. The sound was good, the mic/s were good, and the music choices were available. The only meh part for one friend was for one song where the music was slower and in a different key, but my vocally talented friend adjusted. No worries - it just wasn't her favorite. She still rocked it! Everyone here in the crowd was cool. People were really friendly and lots of folks who didn't know each other were chatting amongst themselves and with us. The singers that showed up ran the gamut from fun loving to full of passion all the way to "is this a professional?" Everyone in the audience was appreciative and positively responsive, with lots of high fives, fist bumps, and cheers. And really, isn't that the beauty of karaoke? Sharing and appreciating each other's bravery, talent, passion, and energy? For that, this place is must definitely THE place.

The bartenders were doing the best they could on the busy night and the crowd was very understanding. On the slower and more average nights you could tell everyone was less stressed. From some of the reviews here you'd think some people have never been in a local dive before. I came mainly for the karaoke, which runs every night. Easy system for requesting a song- just send a text with your name, artist, and title. Good crowd for karaoke too, everybody applauds, a mix of good singers and people fueled by liquid courage. Again, just what you want in a karaoke dive bar. Only bar I've ever been into that had a dB SPL meter behind the bar, too. I didn't ask for the story behind it, but I bet there is one. Terrible cell phone reception here, and I kept forgetting to ask for the WiFi password. So if you're using a ride share service, plan ahead. Glad to have a favorite karaoke spot on the island now. I'll be back!

It's got that unmistakable dive bar energy: dark, unpolished, and full of personality, with a few Hawaiian touches sprinkled in to give it its own Maui vibe. The crowd was entirely colorful regulars and their pets including the dog of one of the bartenders. We even met folks later into the evening who knew the bartenders--and got some confirmation on their uniqueness. The biggest downside? Cowboys memorabilia on the walls. Vomit. Truly unfortunate. But despite that I can't resist a dive with real character. I wish we could have made it for a night out to get the full local dive experience!!! Go Steelers. -1 for Cowboys. But Kahale's? Still worth a stop.

I stopped by first as part of my Mai Tai crawl. The $23 "1944 Mai Tai" was excellent and nicely balanced. The rums had enough backbone to stand up to the rest of the ingredients. It wasn't too sweet and the mint bunch was just the right size. Definitely recommend. I went back the next night for dinner and another drink. For dinner I had the poke bowl which was great though a bit on the small side, even by Maui standards. I paired this with the Fortaleza Still Strength Chartreuse Swizzle ($40): Green Chartreuse, Fortaleza Still Strength tequila, Maul Gold pineapple, Maul falernum, lime, served with custom pineapple cocktail pick. The cocktail pick was fun as you get to "choose your own weapon" and select a custom pick. Dominic was running the bar both nights and he was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and he poured a mean Chartreuse swizzle. While he was making the Swizzle he served me a shot of their "Rum Cannonball" which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. I definitely recommend Tikeahau!

The staff was extremely friendly, our food and drinks came out quickly, and always with a smile. Everything we tried was high‑quality and clearly made with care. Their happy hour menu is surprisingly robust. Drinks The Tropical Mai Tai was a standout. The flavor really popped without being overly strong, just a genuinely great drink. The Rum Cannonball was delicious as well, with a bright pineapple flavor that's perfect for a hot day on the patio. They do have a nice selection of local beers on tap. Food The Kalua Pork Sliders were the highlight. The pork paired beautifully with the curry slaw, so many layers of flavor, and the toasted roll was a perfect finishing touch. The Mini Poke Bowl was fresh and vibrant. Adding avocado really elevated it, and the sesame brought a nice depth of flavor. The Onion Dip was a fun surprise. Loved hearing the story behind it, they once over‑ordered onions and created this dip, which has since become a best seller. It's easy to see why. Finally, the Ahi Slider was excellent. The ahi was high‑quality and seared perfectly, and again, the toasted bun made a big difference. The sesame oil added a great finishing note. The beers were great, the staff was awesome, and the owner was an absolute sweetheart. We also loved the mix of local and visiting talent -- everyone was so fun, welcoming, and supportive of each other. And there were some seriously great singers in the room! Such a fun, friendly atmosphere and easily one of the highlights of our night. We sang, laughed, drank great beer, met some awesome people, and stayed wayyyy longer than we originally planned -- always the sign of a good time. Our only questionable decision was realizing at closing time on a very late Sunday night that Ubers were basically nonexistent. At one point, we had fully accepted our fate and were mentally prepared to WALK all the way back to the Hyatt Regency, continuing to sing our hearts out the entire way, without a care in the world. Thankfully, the Uber gods eventually smiled upon us and we lucked out with a ride. Would we have walked miles home singing karaoke if necessary? Apparently. Would it have been worth it? ALSO YES.
