We made a special trip to Cuba and choose the Kopper Keg as our place to eat after reviewing all the options listed on Yelp/Google. I was hoping for a family owned dinner experience. The overall experience was underwhelming for the price (but that's understandable for the issues in the country atm). Because it was a special occasion and it happened to be friday, I treated myself to the fish fry (I usually avoid it since my husband hates the smell of seafood). It was an impressively sized piece of fish with a teensy cup of tartar sauce. It was then that I realized I hadn't asked if they used sweet or dill pickles in their sauce. I tasted it, it was sweet (ugh!), so I asked for some malt vinegar to try and substitute flavor. I really tried to eat and enjoy my meal, I used the vinegar, as much as I could squeeze out of the lemon and eventually a sprinkle of salt to give it some vibrancy. The problem was, without a good sauce, I couldn't get over how unpleasant the batter was and how flavorless the fish was (plus the inner layer of the batter was also unpleasant mushy). Eventually (about four bites in, the piece of fish is still larger than my plate), my husband remarks that there is no reason for me to force myself to choke down what I found truly disgusting. I relent and give the waitress my plate, explaining I just can't eat it and I don't have an appetite now for any replacement so I'll just wait for everyone else to finish. All of that wasn't even the main issue. After we get our check, I see a $11.Something charge I didnt understand. I ask for clarification by the older lady running checkout. It turns out it wasn't "$11" but a poorly written "4" that was the addon for my daughter's fries. (Wasn't aware that a $12 sandwich didn't come with fries for less than almost $5 but, I guess that's our bad for not checking the menu when the waitress asked if she wanted fries with it...fries that were just previously frozen blah things with no seasoning that my daughter didn't even eat, but again, that's a cost of going out I guess?) Finally, I gently bring up asking about some sort of discount off my $15+ meal as I could not eat the entree. I never asked for it to be comped, I opened with a suggestion of a discount because I had eaten the side of fruit and mashed potatoes. The lady acted as if I was insulting her and/or trying to score a free meal. She explained how it wasn't their fault if I didn't like the taste of their tartar sauce. I was confused and flabbergasted for a moment. Admittedly, I didn't point out how I had struggled to attempt to eat the fish despite the tartar sauce issue and still couldn't stomach it. I doubt it would have mattered, she likely would have said it was my fault because it wouldn't be the resturant's problem I physically couldn't choke down their nasty breading. I was so upset that my rare treat had turned out this way and put a rain cloud over the rest of my day in Cuba. Because I have neurological problems and issues with confrontation, I couldn't think clearly or argue after essentially being told it wasn't the resturant's responsibility that I was "too picky". So I just asked my husband to pay quickly and hurried out before I started to cry in the resturant. I suppose this could be my fault for not fully explaining how disgusting I found their food, but I thought that would be impolite feedback surrounded by customers. The tartar sauce (which the 1/3 of a shotglass size of dip wouldn't have even been appropriate for the size of fish even if it hadn't been sweet pickles) seemed a more polite excuse than saying their breading and fish was physically inedible. I didn't try to have it replaced or cause a scene, yet I still feel like I was being treated like I was trying to "get one over" on them. The salted caramel milkshake was very tasty tho? read more

On the plus side: a genuine, cute, authentic small-town restaurant straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. I know how hard it is to keep a little place like this going, and I wish them all the best. On the downside, my pizza burger (mozzarella and a little red sauce on a burger) came out late and was barely edible. (How can you screw up a burger?) Hopefully that was a fluke; it was a Wednesday, so maybe the A-team was off duty. The food was one star, but I don't want to hurt their average, so I'll give them a merciful three stars. read more

While visiting the area The Kopper Keg was recommended. The menu had a nice variety of options to choose from and also offered an Vegan menu. It was not busy when we arrived, I think we were the only ones in there. After we arrived 3-5 other tables were sat. Our drink order was taken right away but our actual waitress took some time to arrive and take our order. After our order was taken it took about 20 minutes to receive our food. I felt like that was quite a while since we were the first order that went in and we did not ordered simple things; hamburger, hot dog, fried cauliflower, Mac-n-cheese and a fish sandwich. I feel like kids meals for $9 is quite costly, but seems to be the norm in New York. The food was hot and tasty, nothing extraordinary. What a surprise to find such a comprehensive and delightful restaurant in Cuba! Their menu has everything. Enjoyed a veggie lasagne, filled with veggies, and it came with a small side salad. Companion had blueberry buckwheat pancakes, and as good as the lasagne was, I wish i'd ordered those! Can't find them any place locally (Buffalo). Another companion had a burger, which looked terrific. Couldn't resist the offering of maple cake with maple cream cheese frosting...and am so glad I didn't resist! All desserts are homemade, and the variety is impressive. Service was cheerful. There is a 3% upcharge if you pay with a credit card, tho. The sign is at the cash register. I didn't notice it but the waitress was thoughtful enough to tell me before she processed my credit card. thankfully, I had enough cash to cover the bill. Went here for a family get-together luncheon before Christmas. They have a beautiful, new addition decorated with homestyle touches, my favorite being a shelf full of copper baking pans. We had a party of about twelve people, all seated comfortably and well tended by the staff. Someone in our party called ahead and was able to reserve the table. Everyone ordered a variety of dishes but the most popular was burgers and fries. Their salads are large and the ingredients are fresh. The pancakes are ample - one of our diners had one the size of their entire plate. I ordered a Texas burger (added bacon and cheese) with fries (it's usually served with chips but they allow substitutions - another plus). It's almost like having a Texas Hot style chili dog but on a burger. They make their own "sauce" with ground beef and there's chopped raw onions. Great with a little yellow mustard added. The burger was perfectly cooked and the toppings were delicious. The fries were the perfect balance of crispy and soft/fluffy. The waitress was on top of things and the owner even came over to chat as we were there close to closing time. First time dining there and I'll definitely be making a return trip. Great for families. They have a smoothie bar as well. Another great thing about their menu - their beef is local, grass-fed and free range. It's wonderful that the business works with local farmers! read more

Husband and I stopped in for lunch on our way to the Cuba Cheese Store. We should have left after being served 2 cups of pretty lousy coffee. But the decor was cute and the menu had some good variety. I ordered chicken nachos, husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich with fries. Husband's sandwich was ok, but the fries were covered in gravy after a request that they not be. My nachos were awful. The waitress served them saying they had run out of tortilla chips and would the handful on the plate be enough. Being hungry, I said they were fine. On top of the handful of chips was a thin cheese sauce billed as homemade. It was almost soupy. I've had better from a jar! The staff was nice and the options are cheap but the food was just okay. Alcoholic beverages should be avoided because they do not taste good. I was there for dinner so maybe breakfast is better? Phenomenal food, with a cute small town vibe. It was the perfect spot for my chaotic family to stop for breakfast...the staff here was extremely sweet and we had a wonderfully sized meal for a modest price. The Vietnamese coffee was amazing. We scoped out restaurants in the area of our fall foliage drive on a beautiful Sunday and Kopper Keg was our first choice. Surprisingly, it is not mainly a pub like the name implies, although quite an array of drink choices are offered. Rather, it is a lovely diner, very charmingly decorated in a mix of rustic and modern on the copper theme. We chose to seat ourselves in the extension dining room, which was quieter than the stretch of booths across from the counter. A sign asked patrons to let waitress know if you wished to sit in there (probably so you did not get overlooked), which we did. Our waitress was very friendly, efficient and helpful. The menu covers a lot of territory, something for everyone, at reasonable prices by today's standards. Loads of coffee choices. Our food was very tasty-- a corned beef sandwich and chocolate chip pancakes, and we needed a container for surplus pancakes. The only negative in our experience was that when we were ready to leave, after waiting a bit for our waitress who was very busy handling many tables, we went to the end of the counter by the register expecting to pay the hostess? manager? who left us standing there while she continued to go through receipts for a few minutes even after she saw us, until I finally asked if we could pay. I'm giving them 5 stars for their breakfast. They have excellent variety in their breakfasts, and you can get quite your fill at a really cheap price. The "hungry man's" breakfast is loaded with breakfast favorites, and their pancakes are among the best I've had at any sit in. Their strawberry roll up pancake is a particular pleasantry. So is their salt-rising toast, a historical staple of the area. The staff is friendly, coffee is quickly refilled, and the location is in the heart of a very small, but none the less appealing town that is surrounded by beautiful rolling mountains. There are tables outside, usually unattended, as most take a seat indoors, but the homey indoor space has plenty of tables and booths even for a surprisingly sizable breakfast crowd(but then again, not surprising once you have a breakfast here). Dinners I've had when I've stopped in here are good, but they don't stand out the way the breakfast does, neither in quality or quantity. Their nightly dinner specials are very good, though.
