10/18/23 Still on the hunt for our sign for having guests leave their shoes before entering our abode...and I thought this place would have it. Nope. We've passed by this shop over a few dozen times over the years & decided to give it a go. The items are handmade from the Koa tree that is found in Hawaii. There are pens, jewelry, bags/purses, wallets, key chains, cutlery, ornaments, vases, kitchen items & other curious artwork displayed for sale. Candace was manning the shop & she was so friendly & welcoming. She even suggested a lady who might be able to create what we're looking for. This lady works from home & has a website (Tropical Isle Music). I love to support local businesses & Candace was so charming, I bought a couple of Aloha Hula girl ornaments & a pineapple (see photo) ornament. There's a few spaces for parking that it shares with Mankoa & a granola shack. It was lovely speaking with Candace, who I learned is actually half Filipino & half Japanese, born & raised in Kaua'i. Her grandfather was one of the first Filipinos who arrived from the Philippines to work in the plantations in Hawaii. It's always interesting to learn about people & their heritage. The Koa Store, just off a busy road, is a peaceful respite of craftsmanship and local hospitality. A rotating selection of items is sold: bottle openers, jewelry boxes, pens, cutting boards, bowls, bookmarks, etc., with price points to suit varying gift-giving options. The onsite woodworker makes many of the pieces sold in the shop. Other items created by local crafters are noted with signage. We stopped by in search of wood and left with a small trove of gifts. Candace, the woman who runs the shop, was a pleasure to chat with, elaborating on the shop's evolution over its 30+ year history and talking story with us. I was headed out to get lunch and stopped in The Koa Store. My eyes were tantalized by all the amazing local, handmade products. I purchased a few lovely bracelets, a Kia wood necklace and a men's Koa wood/antler ring. I had an inspiring conversation with, possibly the owner. Such a beautiful person. Outstanding little shop with excellent customer service. We went here in search of gifts. They have a parking lot right outside. Store is air-conditioned and very clean. Items are well organized and prices are clearly marked. I agree with other reviewers that the quality of the items are extremely high, however, the prices are also high. We were able to find some very, very nice wooden magnets for five dollars each. The Koa wood fish hook necklaces looked extremely nice, but they were too precious at $60-$70 for little kids gifts. They also had a nice selection of Koa wood bracelets and rings. Jewelry boxes were reasonably priced at about $50 each. Workmanship was absolutely outstanding. They did have fancier boxes which cost more money. They have a workshop that is right next-door, visible through a window, however the workers had the day off. They had a few pieces of Koa wood available for woodworkers and pen blanks for only five dollars each. Definitely worth a quick stop if you're interested in Koa wood products. Oh, and be sure to check out the Greek food truck next door. Chef George is an awesome guy! read more

Don't miss this little, inconspicuous shop on the Kuhio Hwy. We drove past it several times and never noticed it and stopped only because it had a sign that says it Kauai-made products in our last couple of trips driving past it. They have many high quality, locally handmade items. For example, some of the Koa wood items were made right in the workshop next door! Most items are reasonably priced for the quality. Skip the cheap, mass-manufactured, imported stuff that you see in most gift shops in Kapaa, Hanalei and Poipu, and head over here to find unique Hawaiian gifts. You will find a wide ranging list from handmade Koa wood pen boxes, bowls, salad utensils, pens, chopsticks, hair brushes, picture frames, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and rings, to bags and ornaments. And we especially enjoyed chatting with the lady who has worked at that store for over 20 years. She exemplified the Aloha spirit of this beautiful island. read more

What an unexpected find! The finish on the woodwork is just stunning, I almost impulse-bought a barrette when I never use them. Fairly affordable for gift-giving, and we found one or two irresistible baubles on sale. Bookmarks, pens, jewelry, ornaments, charms, kitchenware, home decor, cribbage boards, you name it. I probably would've gotten the plumeria or turtle picture frame if my luggage hadn't already been bursting at the seams. I'm hoping they'll do custom cribbage pegs someday! My partner and I named our Australian Shepherd puppy, Koa, after the wood, and the meaning "brave", so I knew when we visited Kauai we had to get a piece of Koa jewelry. We came to the Koa store on the second to last day of our trip, after searching the rest of the island for the perfect koa tungsten ring. The Koa Store had half sizes in their rings, which made for a better fit, and were very reasonably priced. Our $30 rings were $70-270 in other spots on the island, and the rings at the Koa store were much nicer and higher in quality. They had a variety of different items, and our cousins got some nice Koa bangles that we couldn't find anywhere else on the island. The lady working at the shop was very nice and helpful, and explained the materials to us. It's too bad they don't ship to the mainland, because I'd be a repeat, and frequent customer. This place is absolutely lovely. The craftsmanship that goes into their products is top notch and the results are absolutely lovely. The prices are a little on the steep end, even for koa. But that's the price for beauty and quality. I'm willing to pay it. But if it was a little lower, I'd be willing to pay it more frequently! Not a whole lot left to say except that if you're on island, you need to stop in. This time, we only picked up a sushi for two set and a small jewelry box. I'd like to go back in the future when I have a fatter wallet and see if I can get them to redo all of the picture frames in my house. Great place to buy small Koa lumber. I got three 1" thick pieces (precut, different lengths.) I am excited to find this place, because in Maui the only limited options we're digging through haphazardly piled flooring 'leftovers'. The product selections are cute but limiting. read more

Got some quality picture frames here made out of curly koa. Reasonably priced. Very friendly lady that helped us. They have mosly larger pieces but they did not have a Maui hook which is what I really wanted, oh well, maybe next time. Not sheap but this is art more than fucntion here. read more

Lovely items for sale, and easy access from the street with lots of parking. The nicer items they carry are not cheap, nor should they be for the quality and craftsmanship involved. We went to this store and the one in Koloa. Both were excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful when we were looking for something specific. Staff asked us what we'd seen on the island and suggested some other places and then places to eat. Some people on here have complained about the prices, but I don't think they realize the quality of product they're getting. We bought a small koa wood jewelry box that would have been $60 anywhere else in the islands for about half that. read more

Very disappointing. We purchased a beautiful $440 jewelry box in October and two months later the lid began to warp so it now does not close properly. When we called the Koa Store today to see what we might do, we were told "wood is wood" and suggested we take it apart and sand it down to make it even again. Wow. Doesn't speak to sound workmanship or customer service. It is not a place I would recommend nor would I purchase anything else. read more

I love this store! I have a Koa wood bangle I bought at the Koa Store last December. I wear it all the time and there is not one ding or scratch on it.
