If ya like bamboo, you'll love this store....there's bamboo everywhere! Clothes and accessories, rope, signs, bikes, housewares and more. Got a few items and the guy behind the counter was very nice. Now to get them home....

Cool store with EVERYTHING made from bamboo as the name says but I mean EVERYTHING. We bought a few phone case covers, a flute and some socks. Really cool store, I wish I could ship alot of this home.

My favorite souvenir shop on the island. Nearby lots of other great shops and places for a quick bite.

They had a nice selection of kitchen stuff from Totally Bamboo in CA, like a Kauai cutting board for $20 and a long rolling pin for $27 (see pics).

This is the place you need to get your Kauai souvenirs from. I'll just cut to the chase, because…read morethis is it. My reckoning as follows. Similar to Kauai, I live in a state that banks big on tourism. Similar to Kauai, New Mexico is a place that doesn't sell out (define that as you may) and has a lot of cultural soul, historic pride and sly personality, as opposed to our neighboring southwestern states. Thus, the Locals know that our desert island is simply authentic. While the average tourist brings home a suitcase of dreamcatchers (most likely made in China) and moccasins (made in Minnesota), the best goods are produced by local artists. While I won't say By The Sea is a purveyor of strictly local finds, if you spend some time digging, you'll dig what you find around here. Shirts and hats are simply cooler than anything I'd seen anywhere else. I can't define cool, it just is, you'll know it when you see it. High quality products produced in America. Funny jabs and smart, proud merch. Just go. My wife got a baseball cap that looks straight outta the 80's, and I'm not ashamed to note that I remember that decade.

Nice selection of Hawaiian boutique clothing, including Tori Richards. I would recommend this place…read morefor a quality Hawaiian souvenir that will last longer than a cheap t-shirt or sarong. The clothing prices are fairly expensive, but the quality of the fabric for both the Tori Richards and Pineapples pieces is very good. Great pricing on sterling silver jewelry, although I cannot speak to the value on the local pearls. The clothing had a nice range of sizes, although was somewhat lacking in women's size medium for some styles. I visited the shop three times over the course of a week-long stay nearby (my indecisive husband was picking out a shirt), and I did not experience the poor service highlighted in other reviews. Each time, the clerk welcomed us and was ready to answer any questions. I also got a good, informative overview on the local pearls and why their selection has some imperfections from one of the clerks while my husband was trying on shirts, without feeling pressured to buy jewelry.

Went here last week because I wanted to shop for a dress. The woman manning the store was…read moredefinitely not an example of Hawaii's aloha culture. She didn't even bother greeting me or my daughter and she was just in front of us as we walked in. But I noticed that she was welcoming other customers who came in the store! (Things that make you wonder!) I asked her a question about the clothes designer and she didn't even bother to look me in the eye when she responded. Instead she made it a point to talk to another customer ! At that point I was done. I work in the travel industry and good customer service is number one for me! I provide it and I expect it , especially if you work in a major tourist destination where you can ruin someone's day by just being plain rude and unwelcoming. Anyway I left and went to Ayatar, the clothes boutique across from this store. The sales person at Ayatar was friendly and accommodating so I bought $500 worth of stuff from her because I always reward good customer service.

Came back this summer to find it had expanded and renovated to an impressive degree. I appreciate the focus on local artists and creators, even tho there are a few bigger names on the clothing racks. On May 27, 2026, I purchased from the Seller, Hunter Gather, at its shop located at 4270 Kilauea…read moreRd, Ste I-1, Kauai, HI 96754, four items including small crystal sculpture of a turtle approximately 6" x 4" in size. The price of the crystal turtle sculpture was $218. I wasn't watching over the shoulder of the store clerk, a very young looking woman or late teenager, when she rang me up and put my items in a small brown paper bag with handles. I should have been watching. I assumed that she would wrap the turtle sculpture appropriately. When we left Kauai on May 30, 2026 to fly back home, my wife packed the bag containing the items I purchased in your store in my suitcase. When we got home and unpacked the suitcase, I took out the brown paper bag. I did not realize that somehow the brown paper bag had developed a tear in one of the side creases in the bag. I lifted up the bag from the suitcase laying open on the bed and moved it literally a foot away when the turtle sculpture slipped from the tear in the bag and landed on our tile floor. To our surprise and shock, we saw that the crystal sculpture had been wrapped only in a few sheets of extremely thin, colored wrapping paper and that, when I unwrapped the paper, the head and the rear flippers had broken off! Remembering the transaction, I recalled that the clerk had barely said anything. She did not ask if we wanted her to wrap the crystal turtle securely. Usually, when we have bought fragile items from an arts and crafts shop, the clerk either asks if we want the item packaged securely or voluntarily does it without us asking. As I said, the clerk looked young and acted as if she were new on the job. If not, she was not trained properly to either ask the customer if he or she wanted the fragile object packed securely or hadn't been trained well enough to know that it should be packed securely. Then she placed my items in a flimsy, defective paper bag that tore easlly at its seam, allowing the object to slip out. The principal causes of the breakage of the turtle were: 1) the negligence of the young, inexperienced or poorly trained clerk to package the object securely or to even ask me if wanted it packed securely, and 2) placing the object together with two heavier, bulkier items in the flimsy, defective, easily tearable paper bag that was provided I requested the owner of the shop to refund the purchase price of the turtle but he has refused, adopting a "Once it's out the door, it ain't my problem anymore" stand.
