Came here for dinner on a Thursday with a reservation for 7 people. It's located in a charming brick house with nice ambiance and a bar. The menu changes and it didn't match what was on their website. We ordered the fried chicken, pulled pork plate, salmon, burger, and tagliatelle, plus drinks. The fried chicken was by far the best meal, tasty and not greasy. The pasta was under seasoned. The salmon was slightly overcooked and the asparagus was very overcooked. The wild rice was bland. The fries were in half inch pieces. The pulled pork was very sweet. The server was nice though. Also, it was a little warm inside. Overall, the value was not great. That was the worst meal I have had in YEARS- and totally overpriced. The tables are minuscule and crowded. I ordered the skirt steak, medium rare, most expensive thing on the menu and it came RAW and inedible. I sent it back- I can't remember sending anything back EVER and when it came back the second time it was STILL RAW. The waitress became a no show and stopped eye contact even though I was gracious and said "no worries-" I couldn't WAIT to get out of there. I'd been excited to try this restaurant for months, but with the elevated price point, I was waiting for just the right occasion. Finally, the stars aligned and my husband and I found ourselves with a spontaneous date night, so we decided to treat ourselves. The restaurant has changed hands a few times over the years, recently returning to its original name, which I took as a promising sign. The atmosphere was cozy yet comfortable, the service warm, and the homemade rolls were a delightful start that had us feeling optimistic. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended. We ordered an appetizer, drinks, and a couple of mains. The brussels sprouts appetizer came out burnt, drowned in sauce, and cooked down to a sticky, "candied" texture. It was a baffling execution - so many rookie mistakes in one dish, it was genuinely shocking. At this price point, something like that shouldn't make it out of the kitchen. The mains were no better. I had the grain bowl with chicken, which was bland, lukewarm, and came with chicken that was questionably undercooked. My husband had the lasagna, which was under-seasoned and similarly flavorless. Throughout the night, I kept noticing staff coming out of the kitchen to hang out in the lobby, chatting and laughing with other team members - while food quality clearly wasn't being prioritized behind the scenes. For the cost ($30 - $46 for mains), the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths - literally and figuratively. Sure, we could have said something, but the breakdowns were so fundamental, it felt like a systemic issue rather than a one-off. It put a damper on what was otherwise a lovely night. The food here will leave you SPEECHLESS. From beginning to end our meal here was perfection on a plate. My boyfriend and I were visiting Burlington for our anniversary and happened to stop here on the recommendation of our Airbnb host. This restaurant is about 27 mins proper from downtown Burlington, and trust me- it is WORTH IT to come here for this dining experience. We had the brussel sprouts as an appetizer to start along with two of their non alcoholic mocktails and we were blown away by the depth of flavors. At this point, the bar had been set so high that we were eagerly awaiting to get the entrees and then we were again left completely floored with how delicious everything tasted! (I got the pork chop with roasted red pepper chimichurri and garlic mash and my bf got the beef bourguignon). The pork was tender and juicy and soooo flavorful, it was an absolute delight to savor every bite. Then for dessert we tried the strawberry shortcake with vanilla bean whipped cream- a wonderful way to cap off this fantastic meal! The restaurant itself has a wonderful rustic/romantic vibe to it, so it was perfect for our anniversary dinner. Stopped for brunch on our road trip through Vermont and was SO glad we did. My son says the pancakes were possibly the best he's had. This place was so amazing. We left Burlington a little later than we'd hoped to. We were looking for a diner to eat breakfast before heading all the way back to Long Island. Every place we found was overbooked with wait times. Or just not a sit down and order type place. I stumbled upon The Kitchen Table just as everyone was getting hangry. What a find!!! Absolutely perfect spot. Once again, you can't judge a book by its cover. Heck it was raining pretty good so that didn't help any first impressions that day. Looked like any old colonial house, gravel driveway towards the back. A little muddy but jeez when we got inside my wife was ecstatic. It was exactly what we needed. The food and service here is simply amazing. I attended a friends rehearsal dinner here and couldn't have been more impressed. The banquet menu was absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant delivered the farm to table menu very well and this was actually the best meal I had in Vermont. The appetizers were very good and passed frequently. My favorite part of the meal was the entree, the butchers steak, which was very tender and just melted in your mouth. I sadly only took pictures of the dessert, but I must say the apple cake was the group favorite. The banquet menu is to die for so I can only imagine how delicious the seasonal menus are. The Kitchen Table Bistro was one of the most amazing meals that we have had in Vermont! Why didn't we think of this earlier? Eating a farm to table meal in Vermont! Which was one of the fine states where farm to table was happening everyday, long before "farm-to-table" ever became a movement! Food. OMG the food! We ordered the candy-striped beet with fried brussel sprouts salad, half of dozen of Malpeque oysters, steak tartare, roasted pork shoulder, apple-cider mussels, and chicken liver pate. The food was so delicious! I would order everything again, except for maybe the pork shoulder. That was a little dry. Location. The Kitchen Table Bistro (KTB) is located right by the highway in Richmond. In the dark, you don't even see the signs, so it looks like you are pulling up to someone's large house. We all asked each other if we were in the right place, but the 20 cars in the parking lot (and Google maps) confirmed that we were. Ambience The restaurant is located on the first floor. The Bistro has 3 small dining rooms and a large area for the bar. The restaurant is so charming, with wooden panels and sturdy wood dining tables and chairs. The waiter was wonderful, so polite and gave great beer recommendations. (Vermont beer is awesome!) Food. My favorites were the oysters and the chicken liver pate. The Malpeque oysters were these cold plump, briny oysters. My brother, who never had a raw oyster said 'That was really good!' Yes! It was amazing! Some of the best oysters that I've ever had. And the homemade champagne-mignonette was perfectly sour-sweet accompaniment. The homemade ketchup was a vinegared ketchup, and very good. I would use the homemade mignonette or eat the oysters on their own. The oysters didn't need any help being delicious. The chicken liver pate was smooth as silk and glided on my tongue. It was perfect with the mustard sauce or by itself. K closed his eyes to enjoy this wonderful mouthful. I wished we ordered two! One for me and one for my dining companions. The candy-striped beet were these perfectly tender roasted sweet white and red striped beet cubes. So good. And the fried brussel sprouts were very addictive. K, me and my brother kept helping ourselves to this dish until it was gone! The unami-sweet steak tartare was bright cherry-red and topped with a sunshine-yellow quail egg. The steak was a coarsely ground and tasted grass fed. It was so good. We all kept scooping the tartare on crispy bbq flavored chips and going 'MMMmmm!' The steak tartare came with a salad. A bonus was K got to try a Vermont delicacy: fiddleheads! And he liked it! The apple-cider mussels were perfectly plump and had the best sauce! We kept dipping the crispy toasted garlic bread into the sweet-savory cheesy sauce. Amazing amazing meal. The only reason that the food wasn't perfectly executed was due to the very dry all-day roasted pork shoulder. The polenta was velvety and the roasted baby turnips were so savory sweet! This was our first time at this restaurant while visiting Vermont. We started with nice warm bread and sea salt butter. Was disappointed we got the end pieces for the bread as we paid for it, but just a small thing. The appetizer was octopus and was cooked to perfection was not chewy at all. It came with a yogurt sauce which I loved. For an entree I had the lamb which was also cooked perfectly and had some potatoes and mushrooms. My wife had short ribs which were cooked to falling apart, which was so tasty. Lastly the creme brûlée was probably he the creamiest and most flavourful one I've ever had. This has a lovely atmosphere for a special-occasion dinner, and the service is impeccable. Nevertheless, I feel the food at the more-casual Farmhouse is better. Like the Farmhouse, it offers locally-sourced food in straightforward-but-well-executed standards. (And for the record, I think they should switch names. The Farmhouse has a great community feel to it, and the Kitchen Table is actually an old farmhouse in RIchmond, right were it starts getting rural as you go east from Burlington. But I digress.) We started with a cheese plate ($9), which had two great offerings from two Vermont cheese makers, Vermont Butter and Cheese and Thistle Hill. (Unlike The Farmhouse, you don't get to pick your own from a list.) It come with grilled, locally made Red Hen bread (just like at The Farmhouse!) The chicken liver pate ($9) was quite good...but, um, well, not nearly as good as The Farmhouse's pate. Same for the nevertheless excellent house-made spiced apple butter. (Yes, I know: the Farmhouse is becoming like your mother's friend's daughter about whom you were always hearing from your mother. "Sheila made the cheerleading squad! Sheila got all A's! Sheila won her cello competition! Sheila just got a scholarship! Sheila's mother must be soooo proud!" I'm sorry Kitchen Table; I know it is terrible to be always compared to your mother's friend's daughter, but (like my mother) I just can't help myself. But if you worked at it just a *little* harder, like Sheila supposedly does, I'm sure you could be *just* as good!) For our meal, we got a wonderful piece of locally raised pork (about $26, smaller portion for $14) with this addictively outSTANDINGly crispy herbed spaetzle -- but sadly, the chard it came with was inedibly salty. And I do so love my chard... I do love that many of their entrees are offered as smaller portions for smaller prices. I think the $$$ rating is not absolutely accurate, since you can have a good meal here for under $30. I must also mention that I came here a few years ago and ordered scallops, and I've never had better before or after. (The Farmhouse does not offer scallops...) Moreover, I have never had dessert here, and that is for what the owner Lara is renowned. So save yourself some room for desert. I'll make a point of it next time. Had I never been to The Farmhouse, I might have given The Kitchen Table Bistro 5 stars. If you want a fine-dining atmosphere by a cozy fireplace in a historic old home, be sure to make reservations at The Kitchen Table. If you want amazing food, head for The Farmhouse. This place was a real treat. We came to Vermont to visit family and decided we should check out the "Farm To Table" restaurants as every road you go on you see actual farms. The restaurant is a cosy space that looks like a large estate, inside you see multiple dining rooms downstairs and upstairs. The parking lot was packed and you should absolutely call for reservations. We ordered the Massachusetts Malpeque Oysters special which were super fresh and flavorful accompanied by a home-made ketchup. I loved every bite and wished for more, great starter. The chicken liver pate was savory and bright without being heavy. Perfect with the mustard sauce and bread. I really liked the candy-stripped beets with fried brussel sprouts, it was a pretty and beautiful looking dish on display, and tasted crisp and refreshing. The steak tartare was delicious to the last bite served with Vermont summer greens and crispy potato chips. Normally at Farm to Table restaurants I enjoy the appetizers than the main course, largely because I enjoy new and refreshing takes on greens and flavors rather than the traditional heavily dish. The Dinner Table was very similar, we decided to get more appetizers than main course. The main course, the roast pork was solidly executed with a nice savory sauce and polenta, but not a standout. I really enjoyed my experience and the service was excellent. Since we're New Yorkers it was nice to have the authentic experience as well as pay a reasonable price for it. I went there in the Fall 2016 - my favorite restaurant in VT, the best of the farm-to-table. It is pricey but worth every penny. Starting with the bread as the appetizer - wow, fresh baked, good thick cut, wonderful butter. We tried several dishes - the first was the liver pattee - so smooth and rich. We had the fresh beet salad, that had such a crisp, fresh taste. The setting is very small and intimate, but food was top notch. Unforunatley it has been so long I can't recall the other dishes. But overall it was the best food in VT i have ever had. I like Kitchen Table because it's in Richmond, and Richmond is a fun little town to go to, or at any rate, I like Richmond. I like it because it's located in a very old farmhouse. The location isn't awesome, or at least it feels a bit odd because it's close to the highway and right on a main road, but when you're inside you never notice that. Another reason I like Kitchen Table is the food can be very good. I've pretty much always loved my savory dishes there. Very few times I've had less than very very good savory plates. The desserts have been consistently disappointing for me, which is surprising because I think one of the owners is a pastry chef (?) I may be off on that. The owners are in the process of selling the business. Or they are closing it. I'm not sure exactly what's going on. I will miss this restaurant. I didn't go there frequently, but when I did go out was always a special occasion. Always a treat. The room with the bar was my favorite. I've been told that the bar makes/made some fabulous drinks. If you have the time and can get a table before it closes you should definitely pay a visit. The braised meats are especially wonderful. read more

I was here with a large group of 23 people and surprisingly the food was nice and fresh as it came out and had good flavor. Lacked salt for my beet appetizer but was nice and light. The steak was nice and juicy but the side onions were overcooked and did not quite compliment the dish. Star of the show was the creme brûlée which was fabulous. Rich, buttery, great consistency. We visited the KTB as part of a wedding trip to Vermont. We stayed right down the road at a lovely AirBNB (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2240539); and, after already bookmarking the restaurant, the AirBNB host confirmed that KTB is their favorite. Let me start by saying that the exterior and interior are beautiful. I was also impressed with the knowledgeable staff, including a sommelier who totally nailed choosing two bottles that were suitable for the drastically different tastes at our table. Knowing that we were likely never going to get back to KTB, we decided to order a couple of appetizers to share: cherry tomatoes, barrata, basil vinagrette, micro greens, pepitas; and, fried green tomatoes, habanero crema. We also shared a couple of entrees: pork loin, crispy polenta, chard, summer squash; and, tagliatelle bolognese, cherry tomatoes, shredded farmers cheddar. We finished with two orders of a supremely fantastic dessert: southern style chocolate cake, bing cherry compote, mint ice cream. I'll remember this meal for a long time. It was made with fresh ingredients and a thoughtful eye to presentation. Everything was cooked to perfection, making the entire meal, start to finish, a memorable experience. We left by way of the kitchen, where we offered our compliments to the chef, a young, friendly guy who can cook his butt off. I highly recommend KTB for date night, family night, or really any night of food and wine. read more

Kitchen Table Bistro was recommended by our innkeeper at the Sinclair in Jericho, who was also kind enough to make a same-day reservation. This was a smart recommendation and my friends and I were smart to act on it! What followed was a memorable meal, one of the best I have had in Vermont. The host (owner?) chatted with us as our table was being set up and I was impressed that our excellent waiter had received this beta about our party and continued the conversation. This is an unusual level of communication in most any business. The meal format was a 3 course prix fixe, with small plate, large plate, dessert and a leisurely pace (allow the time, you won't regret it). Let's just say that we did not leave hungry! Cocktails and every other drink was spot-on, and we particularly enjoyed the Hill Farmstead brews that were on-tap. The variety of dishes that we ordered were all fresh, delicious and perfectly prepared. My own small cheese plate (Cabot Clothbound Cheddar was one of them) and steak frite (+$5) were superb. The local produce of Vermont is top-notch and this restaurant showcases these ingredients well. The farm-house suite of rooms that make up the restaurant provide for an intimate dining experience, so be prepared to enjoy your companions and waiter without much in the way of distractions, which worked well for us. Lastly, our waiter was a joy: unusually skilled and professional, and an interesting and lively conversationalist when we showed interest in chatting. We shall return! read more

Classy ambiance. Local ingredients. Yummy drinks. Since the restaurant itself is up for sale, we wanted to check out one of our favorites together again before the inevitable. Went for dinner with a friend on a Thursday night and sat at the bar, located in one of the rooms further in the back. There are plenty of seating options in the many tabled rooms, there must be three or four (including the bar), and it looks like there is cafe style seating out by the main entrance in the garden. The bartender was friendly and happy to make reservations as well as find out the answers to our many questions about the food, secret ingredients, preparation, etc. With four Vermont beers on tap, I settled into a Drop-In Brewery ESB and my friend got a delightful concoction of Bar Hill Gin, grapefruit, and toasted rosemary -- a truly elegant taste! A round of appetizers later (the mussels (sauce was incredible!) and steak tartare (complete with quail egg)), we started in on our main entrees: Grilled Steak with frites and the House Ground Burger. All cooked to a perfect medium rare. We finished off the night with house blended ice cream (four spice vanilla!). It was a delightful evening from drinks to dessert; I'm hopeful for the next phase of the restaurant but until then, get in and try out a dish while you can! read more

We ordered a first course to share, salads and main courses. The salads arrived before the first course and we had to ask not to receive the first course until we finished our salads bc there was no room on our very tiny deuce table. The octopus was perfection, as was my Caesar. The tiny quail main dish was tasty. Gnocchi with pork neck,way too salty, and gnocchi were mushy and formless, disappointing. We miss the old menu which had more mains and fewer small plates. Good. No longer great. UPDATE: although it took him some real detective work to find me, I received a follow up call from the manager after posting this mixed review. He was open and said everything that needed to be said. This place is in an old transformed home right off the highway...we actually drove straight past it because we didn't expect it to look like that. The food was great...small portions but really good. The "fancy" mac and cheese was $17 and was good, had ham and loads of cheese, making it very rich but tasty. My bf got the misty knoll chicken leg ($17)...yes chicken leg, no breast/wing- anything fun, BUT was very tasty. It came over kale which was also fresh. The server was friendly but sllloooowwww. It kinda seems to be a running theme around that area. Also, he over charged on the chicken and when we caught the mistake, he quickly fixed it. But that always leaves me suspicious. Great service, great selection, top notch quality. Had the oysters - great size and nice house sauce. Had the lamb - well done with some nice creamed spinach that is sat on. Had the salmon - perfectly done. This is a great place to go for date night. read more

Had much higher expectations after reading the NYT review. The special apple and squash soup appetizer was very good. The chicken rillette appetizer was OK. I know you're supposed to serve this chilled, but I found it too cold; plus it was messy to eat. The bread to nibble on was excellent! The entrees were largely disappointments. The steelhead over mashed potatoes and spinach was acceptable, but nothing particularly interesting. The other entree was supposed to be the special - pork loin with apples and onions over spaetzle, which sounded perfect considering it was a dark, cold and stormy night. The problem was that I am sure that wasn't loin, but a thin boneless chop. It was rimmed with fat, just like a chop. Regardless of its actual cut (well, that does make a difference because it influences how, and how long you cook the meat), the meat had been brined for too long and was over salty, and contained gristle. A place that is aiming for sophisticated meals, needs to take more care in preparing the foundation of its special entrees. The spaetzle was good, but the apple onion mixture's sweetness was a bit much. The wine list was on the small side, but we found a nice cabernet from Sonoma (Deleyth), which we were able to leisurely finish, because once we declined dessert, the waitress disappeared for 20 minutes, which was longer than we had wanted to stay. read more

Seriously after this trip to Vermont..and the incredible scenery, nice people, and good food...I may need to re-think this living in Maryland thing. Wow! This place is a rare find off an interstate. We actually found it on Yelp, and if you are headed to Stowe, then it's on your route. It is vintage farmhouse at its finest! I loved everything, down to the plates and napkins. Our table had the a salad to start, with freshly shaved parm, then we each had a Ribeye. Might I say that tarragon sauce was divine! I asked for second ramekin of it. The steak was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of onion/squash gratin. Someone else at my table ordered Hake..which she loved. The desserts were all delicious with a lovely presentation. We sat at our table for about 2.5 hours. This is the type of restaurant where you linger, order more wine, talk, and eat slowly. No one is in a hurry here...which was fine by me.
