The "Michigan U-Turn": sautéed portobello mushrooms, brie, saltine onions, apple pear balsamic's law, mixed greens
T.J. G.

Well, this is a place I've eagerly been waiting to open for some time. The prospect of a place that could have a variety of healthy options for breakfast in the morning, combined with an amazing selection of freshly made bagels and unique combos for lunch and dinner was something not to be missed. In short - I wasn't disappointed! Tried two dishes today. The first was the Michigan U-Turn, on a Rosemary infused bagel. It was phenomenal - the Brie was an amazing substitute for the cream cheese, and not something I'd have put on a bagel! Other ingredients were fresh too. The thing was so big, I could barely get my mouth around it. I was so Impressed with lunch that I brought my wife and daughter back for dinner. This time I want with the "Salmon Spread" bowl, which had just enough spice with the Sriracha sauce to give it a real zing. Again, everything was very fresh. My daughter and had the "Sperry's Steak and Spin" flatbread, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and my wife had the "Island Loop" bagel sandwich, which she also thought was amazing. Finally, we finished with two dessert items, the Smore's and the fruit pizza flatbread. Again, my wife and daughter loved making Smore's at the table, and I was once again impressed with the freshness of the fruit. All in all, I came away being very pleased with the quality of the food. They have been open exactly 2 days, so I fully expect them to continue to have to work some kinks out, but if this is the quality to be expected of the CityFlats boutique hotel/eatery concept, I will definitely be a return customer!

Seaway salmon bowl and Edison Square flatbread

I'm very excited to see a nice breakfast spot so popular in Port Huron. The restaurant is in a great spot along Black River and offers outdoor seating to enjoy the boats going by. Inside is quite small but gets the job done. I've visited the kitchen about three times now and have had decent experiences each time. One thing I have noticed is that they frequently run out of ingredients, which is understandable as they are a new restaurant, but nevertheless disappointing. On one trip with a few friends, we were told that they had run out of acai and therefore could not order the acai bowl. After we had received our food, a new table behind us was somehow able to order the acai that they had previously run out of. Similarly, on my most recent trip to The Kitchen, I had ordered three bagels (1 sliced and toasted, 2 unsliced and untoasted) and one bagel sandwich to go. Once I had opened the bag, I saw that all three of the bagels had been sliced and toasted and the bagel sandwich was missing an ingredient. The woman taking my order had read it back to me accurately, yet the food came out with errors. I believe there must be troubles in communication between the front and back of house staff. Even still, the food I've had from The Kitchen is alright. The salmon breakfast bowl was 4/10 and the Edison square flatbread a 5/10. The bagels are great and perfectly chewy, my favorite being the onion rosemary. Despite the hiccups, I am excited to see places like this popping up downtown and giving the community reasons to spend more time there.

Enjoyed one of the last days of the season to eat outside overlooking the Black River. Fresh, delicious ingredients and stellar customer service!

Amazing sweet treats! All the treats are made in house. Its been open for a little over 3 months. I got the cranberry Orange scone which was amazing and a coffee. My parents got the gingerbread cake, the flavor and frosting was second to none. Huge Slice of cake for only 3.50. Coffee only $2 with refills. Jalapeno bacon cheddar bagel- yes please! What a great place to come sit by the water and enjoy some delicious treats and a coffee. I can't believe we haven't been here before, living so close. We will definitely be back soon, please come check this place out. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Love this place. We will have to come back and try some of those sandwiches.

Scratch made scones and scratch made bagels with a fresh and full menu of choices. I'm from out of town and wandered in here for a light lunch and coffee and was just blown away by the food and service. The plus was that they have gluten free bagels! My friend and I stopped by the second day and they were much busier. There was a slight mix-up in the kitchen, but the staff came over right away to check on us and make it right. If you have the chance, definitely stop by. The window-side tables also have a great view of the water.

Omg so so so good! Was in town for work for the week. Was looking online for a gift shop and stumbled across this hidden gem. The sales woman at the Weekend (which shares the property) talked me into trying the scratch made bagel and amazing coffee based on her description. This is my 2nd time back this week the bean & kale soup, the delicious bagels and amazing coffee, cant compare to the EXCELLENT customer service and friendly staff ...

Their salad bowl. I thought I accidentally ordered a side salad

Super bummed with this place. Loved the view, people who work here and menu options but I paid $14 for a salmon salad bowl and it was the size of a side salad. Couldn't believe how expensive it was and how small the portion is. I may try them again but I was starving and their portions do not match the price.

I ordered "The Vault" and made it vegan by omitting the feta and replacing the original cream cheese with the vegan option. Very filling!

They have preserved the heritage and architecture so beautifully it gives the entire venue such a sophisticated, storied allure. The layout is simply divine. They offer a chic bar area, elegant indoor seating, and a breathtaking balcony that is absolutely the premier spot to watch the sunset over the water. It is a perfect 10/10 for ambiance alone! The hospitality was equally impressive. My waiter was remarkably gracious, walking me through a menu that surprisingly featured quite a few complimentary touches and wonderful selections. On his recommendation, I opted for the Lobster Corn Dog a delightfully whimsical, high-low culinary twist that was executed to perfection. During our lovely chat, the waiter mentioned they are under fabulous new ownership, and the passion truly shows. As someone newer to sharing my thoughts on Yelp, I can confidently say this is a premier destination that deserves a flawless score. A must-visit if you appreciate history, views, and impeccable charm!

I enjoyed my halibut, as well as the salmon I had a few bites of -- it was perfectly cooked. I was super impressed with the risotto. Awesome flavor and the chicken was so well-seasoned. They have a solid cocktail list here, too. Friendly service and great food will have us coming back to try more! Our only gripe was that the olives appetizer should come with more bread :P

Ambiance: The inside has black, white and red checkered floors, red tile walls, round red (with shiny flakes) counter stools and a vintage neon-ish clock. Service: the building is small, and the food is cooked in front of you. As soon as I walked in, the cook - David - cheerfully greeted me. Definitely a friendly, high energy guy, enthusiastically representing Detroit! Food: I ordered the striped catfish dinner with fries and coleslaw. The slaw was house-made with purple cabbage. I would have preferred the strips cut into smaller pieces. I could not identify the seasoning, it was ok. Maybe an acquired taste. The crinkle cut fries were also ok, I would have preferred seasoned though - probably frozen? The catfish, was taken out of refrigerator, battered and cooked in front of me. It was delicious! Gold corn meal, seasoning salt, pepper and maybe paprika? The way my late father used to do it! The 2 fillets were a generous size : 8 or so inches. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

The hostess was rude, and when we were seated, there were straws, wrappers, and spilled liquid underneath our table. No one offered to clean it, and after being sat, no one came to our table for over 20 minutes. When our waiter finally arrived- without greeting or introducing himself he just asked "has anyone been with you yet?" *mind you he had been in the section tending to TWO other tables the whole time we were there*. We ordered drinks (an old fashioned and a mocktail), along with cheese curds for an appetizer and a steak and burger for dinner. Our drinks didn't come out for another 15 minutes. When the waiter brought them, I asked if he could put all of our food in at once if he didn't already. He stated he already had because the kitchen was backed up. After that, we never saw him again. Meanwhile, the couple seated right before us received their drinks, meals, and even dessert. Another table was served three appetizers during the time we sat there waiting. Our table was available after being on a waitlist of 35 minutes at 7:11pm and by 8:30pm we still had not received ANY of our food or seen our waiter again. We left money on the table to cover our drinks and left. To make matters worse, the table next to us remained dirty the entire time we were there, and an 8-top nearby sat covered in dishes the whole evening. Where was the manager? The owner? There was no one walking around apologizing for long wait times, no communication, and absolutely no effort to offer compensation or make things right. I have worked in hospitality in years and the way this night was handled was absolutely careless. I have given this establishment MANY changes, and this was the last straw. An absolute 0/10 experience. This was supposed to be a special Valentine's night out for us, and instead it was frustrating and disappointing. I will not be returning to Freighters, and I will be sharing this experience with others so they don't waste their special occasions the way we did.
