I'm super glad this place has a new owner. It's breathing some fresh new life into this place. The food was delicious and I'll be back to try some more. Can't complain about much of our experience. Only complaint is the duck and really that's just a personal preference. I'm not a fan of the half duck with a leg and thigh. It's just too hard to eat. Especially in an upscale environment. The flavor was definitely on point. Very well balanced and a very generous portion. We have been going to this place for years and can't wait to see what else they have to offer. 100% will be back for more.

Whenever I'm in town, I truly love visiting this establishment not only do they have vegan options. The staff is always incredibly friendly. I do love the rustic feel of the establishment. Now from what I observed, when you first entered the establishment there is a set of stairs, which, if you are someone who is wheelchair-bound or who uses a walker this may be difficult however they may be another entrance to get to the upper level. I didn't see a elevator, but it looks like there is stairs. However, once you get to the main level, it's wheelchair accessible. For my dining experience today I opt it for the vegan sweet potato croquettes. The brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious and I opted for a side of asparagus, absolutely divine.

After seeing good reviews and getting local recommendations, I stopped by here for a solo business lunch and seated myself in the upstairs open-air area. Numerous tables along the railing were reserved, but I was able to locate an open table. I ordered the salmon dip and crackers for an appetizer and the BLT with Gouda from the limited but well-discounted happy hour menu. The salmon dip came out after my entree, but it was still enjoyable, with plentiful cool, fresh dip and crispy, fresh crackers. The BLT + G sandwich was delicious, but the hand-cut French fries had some soggy ones. Low top bar and booth seating. Full bar upstairs/ downstairs and restrooms upstairs/downstairs. Great views with a fresh breeze. Excellent, friendly service. Lovely table setting with linen-like paper napkins. High-end dinner menu items like tomahawk and wagyu steaks. 20% auto gratuity for parties of 6 or more but no credit card use fee. Very clean. I would like to return for dinner in the future .

Whenever you travel to Port Huron, this is a must-good restaurant. The decors inside is vintage like the name, but the must see is the view from the rooftop dining area. Not only is there a beautiful view but the drinks and good are made well also. The service this time was fast and the prices is within reason.

As always the food is amazing. We had the salmon spread and Brie for apps. Wife had the lobster roll. I had to have the Halibut. So many things on the menu I like. Only time I don't get the Halibut is when it's sold out!

Ratatouille confit with steak bites. Outstanding. Chef nailed the flavor.

Absolutely outstanding! What a great location with a beautiful deck, which is our preferred seating area when the weather is nice. The service is outstanding with knowledgeable and friendly staff who can walk you through the menu and take you on a tour of flavor experience to help you order! But obviously the star is the food. I have the ratatouille which is absolutely phenomenal... especially with the steak bites added! Although I think I would've prepared it with the chicken. People underestimate the power of ratatouille, but the Chef understood the assignment and created the absolutely most perfect ratatouille I've ever had. It's one of my most favorite dishes and is not often found on menus so when I see it, I get it... And this hit all the notes. Although it's a peasant dish from France, it's elevated in the most spectacular ways based on Chef's preparation. It takes you back to the most comforting dish you had as a child while reminding you that it's a fine dining experience.

Great variety in the menu. Properly prepared generous halibut filet with asparagus. Good ribeye. Nice view from the rooftop.

Dinner rolls not included with the meal.

Nice, casual atmosphere for summer. Across from the tavern area is free parking. There is open air roof top service. So casual that, napkin and flatware arrived after appetizers were served. Perhaps the server did not notice the empty table. The crab cake was not lump crab. There was plenty of filler and little flavor. The side salad accompanying the crab fresh and delicious. Speaking with other patrons, should have had the mushroom risotto. Sounded flavorful. Instead the salmon with flavored rice and asparagus were all under seasoned. Crusty rolls served as shown; no olive oil or butter. This is a perfect place to end the day with friends for drinks or dessert.

Beautiful atmosphere. They had a guitar player the night we visited which was wonderful! We set on the rooftop which was very nice. I order the rice bowl with salmon instead of shrimp. The food was okay. It was not special or interesting. It was just okay. Rice, vegetables and a basic glaze. I really wanted to love the food because I loved the ambiance. I did have the wine flight and it was a nice selection of sweet wines included. I would certainly visit again. I give it a 4 because the wine flight and ambiance were a 5. The food was a 3.

Nicest restaurant in Port Huron. Never had a bad meal here. Well thought out dishes. Best wine selection around. Nice seating options.

Is the roof seating currently open? What is the season for the rooftop seating here? Would we have to book to secure a rooftop spot?

The roof area is open only on Friday & Saturday nights during the winter months. Reservations are available for groups of 6 or more only.

Ambiance: The inside has black, white and red checkered floors, red tile walls, round red (with shiny flakes) counter stools and a vintage neon-ish clock. Service: the building is small, and the food is cooked in front of you. As soon as I walked in, the cook - David - cheerfully greeted me. Definitely a friendly, high energy guy, enthusiastically representing Detroit! Food: I ordered the striped catfish dinner with fries and coleslaw. The slaw was house-made with purple cabbage. I would have preferred the strips cut into smaller pieces. I could not identify the seasoning, it was ok. Maybe an acquired taste. The crinkle cut fries were also ok, I would have preferred seasoned though - probably frozen? The catfish, was taken out of refrigerator, battered and cooked in front of me. It was delicious! Gold corn meal, seasoning salt, pepper and maybe paprika? The way my late father used to do it! The 2 fillets were a generous size : 8 or so inches. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

The hostess was rude, and when we were seated, there were straws, wrappers, and spilled liquid underneath our table. No one offered to clean it, and after being sat, no one came to our table for over 20 minutes. When our waiter finally arrived- without greeting or introducing himself he just asked "has anyone been with you yet?" *mind you he had been in the section tending to TWO other tables the whole time we were there*. We ordered drinks (an old fashioned and a mocktail), along with cheese curds for an appetizer and a steak and burger for dinner. Our drinks didn't come out for another 15 minutes. When the waiter brought them, I asked if he could put all of our food in at once if he didn't already. He stated he already had because the kitchen was backed up. After that, we never saw him again. Meanwhile, the couple seated right before us received their drinks, meals, and even dessert. Another table was served three appetizers during the time we sat there waiting. Our table was available after being on a waitlist of 35 minutes at 7:11pm and by 8:30pm we still had not received ANY of our food or seen our waiter again. We left money on the table to cover our drinks and left. To make matters worse, the table next to us remained dirty the entire time we were there, and an 8-top nearby sat covered in dishes the whole evening. Where was the manager? The owner? There was no one walking around apologizing for long wait times, no communication, and absolutely no effort to offer compensation or make things right. I have worked in hospitality in years and the way this night was handled was absolutely careless. I have given this establishment MANY changes, and this was the last straw. An absolute 0/10 experience. This was supposed to be a special Valentine's night out for us, and instead it was frustrating and disappointing. I will not be returning to Freighters, and I will be sharing this experience with others so they don't waste their special occasions the way we did.
