First time there with my kids and it was a hit! Excellent wedge fries and chicken tenders. My daughter loved the French onion soup. The mushroom Swiss burger was juicy and very flavorful. Awesome service, Brent and Marina were so fun to chat with. We will be visiting every time we come to town. Took a 1/2 dozen house made fresh donuts to go. Chef shells is a perfect brunch spot downtown. It is very cozy inside with only a few tables, so I can imagine it gets quite busy. Parking can also be a little bit of a struggle at busy times. All of the food is super tasty and well priced, and their donuts are a must get! read more

We traveled to Port Huron to watch the sunrise and freighters in the River. We decided we needed breakfast and I used Yelp (of course!) to find this gem of a restaurant. Here is how things shook out. We arrived as a steady streamer people were going in and out to get donuts. We really just came here for breakfast, so we got a table and we're greeted promptly. We placed our order, and while we waited for breakfast, we marveled at how many people were coming in getting dozens of donuts at a time. breakfast was good. I ordered only from the sides as I'm not a fan of eggs. I got pumpernickel toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. My complaint about the meal was said it was very greasy. The hashbrowns were fried in a ton of butter the bottom of them were kind of soggy. The bacon was good, but greasy so I had to blot it off with a napkin. The pumpernickel toast was excellent, but very well buttered. Folks were still coming in constantly to get donuts, and I heard several of the weight staff naming off the different flavors of donuts. So after breakfast, my husband and I decided to get a few donuts to go. We got a caramel apple fritter, maple glazed custard doughnut, and a doughnut, they said would taste kinda like a snickers. Holy cow! Now I know why they get such great ratings. My husband loved the custard doughnut as it had crispy edges to it. I really enjoyed the snicker doughnut, one of the best I've ever eaten. Would we come back? Most definitely for the donuts! If we did eat here again, I would make sure to ask to get the food prepared with a lot less butter (I don't have a gall bladder and I am struggling with my stomach right now cuz of the amount of fat in breakfast). This is my second review. I have been avoiding this place because the staff is always so impatient with my kids when they are picking donuts. Today, we decided to give them another try because we'd heard they fired all their staff. We thought maybe the bad eggs were removed. We were wrong. Chef Shell's is a great little gem in downtown PH. While there used to be a fair amount of options downtown for breakfast, this is one of the few ones that has survived the onslaught of Covid. Although they are known for breakfast and their AMAZING donuts, they have a great lunch menu that has a unique mix of salads, sandwiches.....and yes, SEVERAL Vegan/Gluten free options. For a unique take, try their "Soup Flight" (shown in the pic in the menu), which allows you to choose three of their homemade soups (they usually have six per day) in a "wine tasting" like format. Only issue is parking and the small available outdoor seating (seasonal only). While the parking is convenient (street/slot), they are often completely full, so get there early! We came here because of the rave reviews on yelp. I have no idea what happened today...maybe the owner or manager was off or put of town, but there is no way this place is a 5 star anything! There were 3 other tables 2 already had their food but it took a long time to get our breakfast like 20 minutes for such a small place. I got 2 sets of dirty silverware. My omelet was over cooked with little to no cheese and my hash browns were undercooked. I asked for toast with no butter and got buttered toast. Our waitress was good and attentive. Received a coupon from restaurant.com and thought that we would give this venue a try. Delightful experience. Wife and I stopped in around 3pm for a late lunch. Greated by Carly who turned out to be a great waitress. Wife had half Monte Cristo sandwich and home made asparagus soup. All delicious. I had bowl of chili and a Angus burger covered with sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese. YUMMIE!! Burger was great and chili flavor fantastic. Could have used a little more meat in the chili. They make all of their own baked goods but by late afternoon all sold out. Definitely need to go back and try the eggs Benedict. Very reasonable pricing. read more

Chef Shells just catered my wedding in Port Sanilac on June 24, 2023. The food itself was decent, but nothing to rave about. However, the food and staff were an hour late for dinner and when I had my maid of honor call to see where they were, she had to call 15+ times to get someone to answer. After the staff arrived they quickly set up and started calling tables. When I spoke with their catering staff over the phone, I paid for (and ordered) 160 plates. We had approximately 140 guests, and we ran out of food after the first 100 were served. The staff continued to blame "the bride" (me) saying that was all that [she] ordered. They were supposed to portion out the food for each guest, yet stood around while letting guests serve themselves at the buffet. I paid for 3 servers to be there to serve guests and all they did was replenish the trays at the buffet as they were getting low. Had heard it was good and went to lunch with my grandson; bad move. Wait time for food was extreme, at least 35 minutes to knock out a couple of hamburgers and the fries we ordered took another 10. It wasn't due to a big crowd or any evident issue. Waitress was apologetic and they didn't charge for the fries. Food was very good except hamburger bun which was soft spongy bread which collapsed into a soggy quarter inch layer of goo. My husband and I were in town visiting family. We are originally from Knoxville, TN. We came here for brunch; It was about noon and there was only one other person there in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly from the start. I ordered the veggie lover's omelet with a side of fruit and coffee. My husband ordered French toast with ham and a scrambled egg. The food came out fairly quickly and it was delicious. I wouldn't have changed a thing! My husband ate his French toast before I could get a picture of it. They also have homemade donuts so of course we got a box. They were also fantastic!
