I willjoin the chorus of praise for Kate's. It's the Cheers of restaurants. Everyone knows everyone else - even strangers. Friendly place. But the food is what moves this to five stars. So fresh. I cannot believe I did not make a review yet. I work in port huron and I come here by myself or sometimes with my coworkers a lot for lunch. The food is always fresh and the drinks are well done . I love the food everytime I order . I love that they always have different special for food and drinks . I really like their quiches. I love the decors because it feels very homey. Very impressed!!! Not only do they have yummy sandwiches (love the chicken salad) and soup (their chicken tai was heaven) but they offer gluten free options AND off-the-charts customer service! I stopped by yesterday around 1:30p and the woman who waited on me was so friendly and helpful. She remembered I liked pickles and gave me two. I was driving through and found this cafe on google and it was so wonderful. Everyone who works there is so sweet, they genuinely care about the customers. They knew so many locals names and orders. I got the summer salad and the toast with cream cheese & tomatoes. It was so delicious. I only wished I wasn't too full to order their pastries because those looked so yummy too. The soup was earthy, I suppose, but mostly I found it underseasoned and somewhat unpleasant. I would have expected the flavor of paprika or some sort of spice, but I didn't detect it. We went on a downtown shopping spree today starting off with the local farmers market and then around the downtown area. All that walking worked up an appetite. So we stopped in to Kate's. They have a variety of soups, salads, sammies and specialty drinks. Elisa for their Huron Avenue chicken salad sandwich and I got the grown up grilled cheese with a cup of black bean bisque. She had a keto breve coffee and I had the caramel apple chai for drinks. The staff are attentive and friendly, and we enjoyed the food. My sandwich had cheddar and provolone with tomato and a pesto grilled on sourdough. It was tasty. The bisque had an earthy chili flavor to it that I enjoyed (as did Elisa who likes to try bites of most everything I order, which makes me chuckle). The kettle chips and pickles are plenty for sides. I honestly didn't finish my meal as the portion sizes were good. Elisa likes her sandwich as well and both of us enjoyed our drinks. With a 20% tip, I spent $43. That's honestly a lot for a lunch, but we did enjoy our meal and the service. It's a place I would go back to. They have a good selection of breakfast sandwiches and wraps. We loved this place for a long time. They have great food, awesome coffee, and a wonderful atmosphere. However, last time we were there, my mom and I had to go back up to the counter 4 times for mistakes on our meals. It made us very uncomfortable because no one wants to be "that guy" and we were 100% those people. But the meals were wrong...4 times. I'm usually one to take the blame for these things and try to figure out how it could have been misunderstood, but I came to the conclusion that it actually wasn't our fault. I am hopeful that it was someone's first day, or that we were in the twilight zone or something because I really do love Kate's. This place totally made up for a disastrous experience the evening before at a local Italian restaurant. The ambiance was chic, clean, welcoming, filled with positive messages sprinkled throughout the place including the table tops. The avocado toast with fried eggs was delicious, the walnut bread plate a good choice who wish to have the taste of French toast without the egg batter, and the quiche was light and fluffy, accompanied with fresh salad. The Earl Gray tea had a nice creamy aroma to it and the decaf coffee a smooth addition to the whole experience. A sweet experience. read more

This place was a great choice for Saturday brunch. It has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff were all chatty and lovely. We split a Bordertown sandwich and a breakfast burrito. The sandwich was good - a little odd with the strawberry jam on it, but still tasty. My husband and I both thought that jalapeño jelly might be a better choice. The burrito was very good, and the pico was particularly delicious. Also liked the sun dried tomato wrap. The best thing, however, was the hot chocolate which was, quite possibly, the best hot chocolate I have ever had. And I consider myself something of a connoisseur. We were sad that we didn't get to try any of the salads and sandwiches named after the characters on "Friends," but will definitely try to make it back. read more
