Sunday Breakfast Brunch with my honey while driving through Richmond, Michigan. Picked out a locals place with good ratings to try out. Place is obviously popular, very busy and the staff hopping. There are two different seating areas outside as well as inside. We were seated at an available table outside. The service was attentive and fast, water and coffee never ran dry. I ordered the healthy spinach scrabble with egg beaters and was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. My only criticism is that I was already half way through my meal before my husbands meal arrived, not sure why since he only ordered French toast and bacon. His French Toast was very nicely prepared. My boyfriend recently moved to Richmond and we finally were able to check out the Village Cafe for breakfast. Definitely a local diner that all the locals meet at. Server knew a lot of the customers and looked like the owner was stopping by tables and catching up with regulars. Menu is huge and has a decent selection for breakfast and lunch. I opted for the potato pancake special, which came with three homemade potato pancakes (with your choice of sour cream or apple sauce), your choice of meat (ham, bacon or sausage links), your choice of eggs and your choice of toast. Our order came piping hot to our table very quickly. Food was wonderful. I ordered my eggs over hard, which can sometimes be a pain to make and there was perfect! The potato pancakes were delicious! I just wish they were slightly larger. There was about the size of silver dollar pancakes. I opted for ham as my meat and the piece of Virginia ham was quite large. The decor definitely makes me feel at home and reminds me of my grandmas cooking. Our server was one of the only ones in the restaurant so the service was spotty at times but she was very busy. We weren't able to get jelly for our toast. Can't wait to come back and try more breakfast items and come back for lunch too! read more

Awful. Ordered a turkey sandwich on multi grain bread. The sandwich had turkey & ham on stale tasting round multi grain flat bread bun. Bread tasted like it had been frozen and stale. The worst part was a side salad came with the sandwich. After a few bites I tasted something like gritty like dirt. Take another bite same thing & spit it out in my napkin--gross it was dirt. I look through the lettuce in the bowl & there is a piece of some kind of dark brown material that looked like it was maybe rotted lettuce & dirt. Approximately 2" x 1-1/2". It was disgusting & I couldn't eat any of the meal. I told the waitress & she said she washed the lettuce & didn't notice the thing in my salad when she made it. I just wanted to throw up. She did offer to make another salad--No Way was I going to eat another salad. Never would eat there again. read more

The cafe is inviting, with the friendliest owner, Marie, and efficient, kind wait staff who genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. Even the plates and bowls are original and fun. Be prepared to leave with a smile on your face. Each entree I saw leaving the kitchen looked fresh and appealing. I read positive reviews about the twice baked potato soup and was not disappointed. Flavorful with just the right texture and spices, it was warm and comforting. It took me a good 15 minutes to read the many offerings in the menu. After narrowing it down to a half dozen breakfast and sandwich choices, I decided on the Asiago Chicken Wrap. Warm and filling, the chicken tenders are made from scratch, and are perfectly crispy and tender. I asked to have the artichoke spread substituted for the ranch dressing. Great choice. I overheard another customer saying she could eat the spread by the spoonful. I agree. Very tasty. Maria is a gourmet quality chef who creates her own recipes, using the freshest ingredients. I really tried to like this place.. Now this is just my opinion but the food is really greasy and it upset my stomach! I tried it twice to be fair and both times { carry out and then later we went inside} yeah it was really no different - the food just did not agree with me. The waitress was a very nice young high school age girl .. We were in town visiting for the holidays and needed a quick brunch. We were all so happy that we stumbled across this spot. The service here was honestly better than restaurants that charge 4-5 times the price. The food came out very quickly, and the wait staff all worked together to help the customers. The food here is great, but we are only able to have breakfast on Sundays when they aren't too crowded. Prices are slightly higher than other Richmond restaurants, but the portions are great. I just wish they were open past 3:00 on weekdays for working people. read more

This place was good. Not fantastic. I had the 1/2 sandwich with soup. My tuna melt was missing, of all things, cheese. (That's sort of the point of a tuna melt, don't ya think?) The tuna salad was simply tuna and mayo, and between the tuna salad and the tomato slices the majority of the tuna ended up on the plate. But it was serviceable. My soup was twice baked potato. The potato soup was perfectly smooth (not so much as a lump of potato) with some shredded cheddar cheese on top. That's it. The cynic in me speculates that, based on the consistency, it was made with instant potatoes. It was, to say the least, disappointing. My hubby enjoyed his hamburger and fries. Like every other burger he orders, however, the burger was cooked well-done rather than the medium he ordered. Despite this lukewarm rating, I would totally go back. The Village Cafe is truly great. It's always a treat to stop in town for a bite. I've only had breakfasts here but the menu has a wide array of lunch foods as well. Once in a while they have special dinner hours. The food is very tasty. My favorite are the omelettes. They offer many types with a wide array of toppings. The hash browns are always cooked to perfection. I also enjoy their unsweetened tea. Tea can be really hit or miss when eating out, but this place does it right. The customer service is pretty swell. A good amount of attention goes to each guest and many happy eaters seem to know the staff by name. This place gets packed at the usual hours so check Google for the peak times. I recommend enjoying this place early on a Sunday for the prime experience. It is a small venue but that's okay. I can be understanding. They just renovated the outside which now matches the beauty of their inside service and quality. Nothing good to say. My wife and I went to breakfast, we were sat outside next to a condensation overflow drain that flowed under the table next to us. The sidewalk was littered with food so obviously the flies were abundant. The food was poorly prepared. The veggie skillet had mushy undercooked hash browns and an abundance of broccoli stalks. I think there might have been one chunk of tomato and canned mushrooms. Between the poor food and constant battle with flies, the relatively unsanitary conditions, It's hard to imagine why people Flock there to eat? Or is it to difficult to drive a few extra miles for a far better experience? I've been here twice, never give a bad review on my 1st trip as anyone can have an off day. But basic cleanliness and preparation of food is a cornerstone of a decent establishment, these guys failed on both. It'll be my last time eating here. read more

This is a smaller restaurant but they are huge on customer service! They want to greet you with a smiling face every time you walk in. The food is always delicious and arrives at your table in about ten minutes or less (for breakfast). The only downside is that they need to expand; the place feels a little bit congested during the breakfast rush. read more
