Huevos rancheros

There are not enough words to describe how delicious this huevos rancheros was this morning. I opted to substitute the chorizo with sausage links, so it wasn't too spicy. The cilantro sour cream is just delicious. Everything about it had a perfect flavor in every bite.

Monte Cristo & Potato Hash

After so many FB posts finally made it into Mae's. Cute little shop. Lady at the counter was pleasant at first. She seemed a little annoyed that I asked for my sandwich to be wrapped in two separate boxes... I ordered the monte cristo and a Maurice salad. I've read so much about monte cristos lately, I couldn't wait to try it. It's definitely a sweet & savory sandwich, and although it was tasty, it was on the sweet side for me, for most, it probably wouldn't be. My sister prefers the jam on the side, not in the sandwich. I did like the potatoes it came with. The salad was good, but could've used more toppings, imho. I wouldn't hesitate to return, they have a couple other things on the menu I'd try.

A friend recommended this place for breakfast. I like to frequent places in Downtown Mt. Clemens. Ordered at the counter and the food is brought out to you. The young lady at the counter was pleasant. I ordered the eggs Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly the hollandaise was very good. I really liked the red skin potatoes. The dining area was clean. I had very good experience.

While I'm unemployed I have the freedom to check out new dining places during the non-busy hours. Mom and I drove in from Sterling Heights to check out Mae's as we love biscuits and gravy and we heard they made the best version of it here. We arrived around 10:30am on Wednesday. There is limited parking and you have to pay .25 cents for every 15 minutes. The limited parking isn't a problem for those that can walk but mom can barely handle walking a few feet. Since it was slow time we had no problem finding a spot right outside their door. For most people not having a booth or chairs that have sides for the arms there is no issue, but again, with mom it was difficult for her to land in a hard seat with no arms. I brought her pillow and assisted her as she got in her seat. Mom is 84 and has severe arthritis and Parkinson's ; she is vibrant but really needs the creature comforts when she dines out. Eating out is our 'big outing' so we enjoy trying new places to eat at. I was surprised to learn we had to order at the counter, had to order water in a bottle, got our coffee in a paper cup - but hey, it's all fun in the trying new places so no biggie. The coffee was strong, smooth and very good. Since we arrived when no one was there our food was delivered in a timely manner, was served hot and was delicious! The scrambled eggs were fluffy and very tasty. Mom really enjoyed her biscuits and gravy. The cook/chef is very good. I loved my meal but was surprised at how full I was after eating just half my meal. I requested a to-go box and was presented with one of those god-awful, 'save-the-environment' cardboard, flap the tops over each other boxes. No thanks, I left my food there as I know from past experience, my food ends up tasting like cardboard and the lid pops open risking my food falling out. Great addition to the downtown Mt. Clemens vibe. We are glad that we tried it but we will leave it to the young, healthy downtown crowd.

Cute little diner. We went during Downtown's Spooktacular. They were pretty busy but handled everything very gracefully. FYI Big portions! We will definitely be going back!

Great overall vibe with incredibly friendly staff. The food was delicious, arrived fast and with good portions. I'll be back!

Corned Beef Hash

So excited to find a new breakfast option close to home. We opted for the corned beef hash and southern fried chicken and egg. Both meals were exceptional. Staff members were kind and food came out hot and fresh. For newbie's: you place your order at the counter and then sit down. They definitely worked on maximizing their space for seating. Will absolutely be back and can't wait to try other items.

It took 20ish minutes to get drinks and refills. I had asked for a water several times and we had to end up sharing. We got chicken tenders, poutine and pierogi for appetizers. The poutine and chicken tenders were both amazing! The chicken was fresh and very good quality, it seemed to be hand breaded. The poutine had great flavor also! The pierogi was dry and not great, so I would skip those next time. For dinner I ordered the mac and cheese and French onion soup. The French onion soup was so salty it was inedible. The Mac and cheese was also disappointing. I thought it would be baked or have a sauce and it didn't. It reminded me more of a kids meal (but with adult prices) and was a small portion. Husband got the fish and chips and he enjoyed them, but said he wished they gave malt vinegar with them. Overall the service was slow and some dishes were great and some were not so great.

As I walked along Main Street, I happened to come across one of my favorite restaurants, Mount Clemens Grill. I walked in and notified my waitress that I did not have a reservation. With a pleasant smile, she acted as if it wasn't any kind of problem and offered to let me sit wherever I wanted. This was the beginning of a great dining experience! Once I was seated, a menu was offered and my drink selected. When she brought my drink ($2.50 hot tea, with sliced lemon and a bit of honey), I requested a $12 Farmer's Omelette, with rye toast. With Motown favorites playing in the back ground and a nice view of the activities outside, it was a peaceful wait until my order arrived. Now, I enjoy eating out, and when I do, I like to order satisfying meals. Well, this certainly 'fit the bill' and I devoured my omelette with vigor. The only alteration I made was adding some salt and pepper, and a little hot sauce to satisfy my tongue. I was able to maintain my status as a member of the Clean Plate Club®. My waitress was very nice and treated me like I was the only customer in the restaurant! She checked up on me once and found everything to be in order. She dropped off the bill and after the Governor got her cut, the total was $15.36. As I like to do with all small dining establishments, I paid with cash and left a decent tip. I always have a pleasant dining experience here. You will too!

That said... the upstairs is LOUD. Like borderline "I can't hear the person next to me" loud lol. Maybe I'm just getting old but wow. Drinks are where they shine. Stick with beer or whiskey and you're golden. Food used to be rough, not gonna lie, but I gave it another shot recently and it was actually really good this time, so that was a pleasant surprise. Huge covered outdoor bar, a stage for live music, and a big fire pit that makes it feel like it should be the spot. The setup is there. But something just feels a little... off. It still has that early 2010s bro-bar energy, and it doesn't quite match how nice the space could be. I also didn't even realize they served food, which probably says something about how it's presented. That said, the music is always solid. It's a fun place to grab a drink after work and hang out for a bit. Just not somewhere I find myself staying long or choosing over other spots nearby. If I can offer anything to the team, I think leaning into the vibe of that patio and elevating the atmosphere a bit would go a long way.
