Gem of a Find! Wonderful Location, within walking distance of "downtown" Friday Harbor, but still quiet and tranquil. The Hosts, Steve and Renee were warm, welcoming, and provided valuable insight to restaurants and attractions. We were spoiled by delicious breakfasts in the morning, and when we had to leave early to catch a ferry, Steve was accommodating and was able to make us delicious breakfast sandwiches to go. There were also delicious treats daily. The house comes with a rich history and the room we stayed in (The Veranda Room) was large and accommodating, with it's own entrance. Every morning, a basket of fresh coffee was delivered to our door. Highly recommend this amazing B and B to anyone traveling in Friday Harbor. read more

Imagine our surprise...no shock... when pulling up to vacation there, with a "for sale" sign in the front yard. Would anyone be there to greet us?! Would we need to find another place to stay?! If that wasn't unsettling enough, the fill-in host , while friendly, was not very familiar with the property. I'm sensitive to energy and it felt pretty empty....a sense of sadness. The breakfasts were good, although the service felt a little rushed, like they wanted to get started with chores. She baked cookies every afternoon. We did not meet the owner until the last day and we had a good conversation, although I was a little put out when the first thing she mentioned to me was she should would need to get my credit card to run after breakfast. She could have been a bit more tactful. Again, first impressions.... "for sale" sign....we need your credit card..... Keep in mind the property could be sold by the time you stay there so my review will not be accurate. Regardless of owner though, the property is comfortable and close to ferry so no car is required. read more

Doug and Roxy recently bought this B&B in March of 2012 and having spent time with them on our trip, we can tell that they truly love their job. When we pulled up to the house it was a cute little place, our welcome was warm, and the room was clean with a hint of lavender scent. After arriving we took a quick walk back to the harbor to catch a whale watching tour (only took about 7-8 minutest to walk to the harbor). The room had beautiful stained glass windows, a fresh pitcher of lemon water, a super comfy bed, flat screen tv with dvd player. Since we had to run so quickly, there was even a precious note left on our door for us. There are movies in the sitting room to use, games to play, and an afternoon snack (snicker doodles and raspberry lemonade...yum!). My husband and I are night owls and sat up playing cards and finished off the snicker doodles which were sooo good! The morning brought a basket of coffee for the room outside our door (always helpful to get my husband out of bed) and when we roused from our room, we were greeted with a tasty breakfast. First we had fresh juices and coffee with a yogurt parfait (granola is made in house). This was followed by banana hazelnut waffles with fresh fruit on top and breakfast ham. Everything was delicious and I am a picky eater! I would completely recommend this place when traveling to Friday Harbor. Perfect location to be close to downtown...but not too close! read more

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and we loved our stay here. Doug and Roxy are so sweet and made it feel like a home for the night. I had requested champagne in the room which was a nice surprise for my boyfriend and a nice option for them to provide. There were delicious treats when we arrived and they were able to accommodate us arriving a little early. We stayed in the veranda room which is so cozy and has the great shower with two shower heads. The bed was amazing and the access to the patio is great. The breakfast was delicious (granola parfait, individual egg casseroles and delicious muffins you can take in a to-go bag for later - and mimosas!) We spent some time just relaxing on the hammock out back and overall had a wonderful stay. read more

Had the opportunity to stay at this beautifully appointed property with my family. Absolutely gorgeous craftsman style art deco bed-and-breakfast walking's distance to Friday Harbor. Rooms feature king size comfortable beds with private verandas and separate outdoor entrances. And each has their own bathroom! The hosts were very welcoming and breakfast was delicious! This place is fantastic! The owners Doug and Roxie have thought of everything you will need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious and huge! Fresh coffee is left in a basket outside your door at 7am. Picnic lunches can be ordered ahead for day adventures. And each afternoon a snack is served. Also they provide cold filtered water and a fridge with bottled water. All the comforts you can ask for are here! We stayed in the Veranda room and it was amazing. The fireplace is such a great touch. Huge shower with local lavender toiletries. The innkeepers provide a wealth of information on things to do and places to eat. Best of all it's a short walk to shops and dinning and a spa! We will be back! read more

Kirk House was my first Bed and Breakfast experience. The location is great. We parked our car at the Anacortes Ferry terminal and hopped on the ferry to Friday Harbor. Kirk House was located within walking distance to the Ferry terminal. The rooms are very cozy. We had a French door in our room that's open to the garden. The craftsman style stain glass windows were beautiful. On the down side the bathroom was very small in our room and the walls are very thin. We happened to have neighbors that snored very loud all night. We had to leave the TV on to drawn out the snore. On the website it stated full breakfast, but we were only served fruit and yogurt parfait. They didn't serve any hot breakfast (maybe because we went during off season?) The granola in the yougourt parfait and the coffee was very good. The owners designed their own coffee and had it roosted in Arizona. Over all it was a disappointing experience. read more

B&B was REALLY cute. The hosts were awesome. Super accommodating. They paid incredible attention to detail. They made our dinner reservations for Saturday night... recommended a whale watching tour... baked coffee cake and served fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade when we returned...we had a Brita picture in our room with fresh lemon slices... Coffee delivered outside our door at 7AM. The breakfast was phenomenal... Raspberry cream french toast & yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit & homemade granola. I got a rose (for Mother's Day) and mimosa's... it was awesome. The room was spacious & comfortable. Nothing was lacking (except maybe a view of the water), it had everything & then some. The current owners of this B and B are very hospitable and detail oriented. Disregard any negative posts from 2011 or earlier because these folks have done a great job with the place since they acquired it in the spring of 2012. My husband and I came here for our 1st anniversary and I'm glad we chose this spot. It is a great location, near fabulous restaurants and the rest of the harbor, and the property is well kept. The only down fall is that it does not have water views, but then again the rate would be higher if it did. The Island is pretty pricy and the Kirk house is reasonably priced in comparison. We stayed in both the Arbor room and the Trellis room. The second is more expensive, but worth it for the claw foot tub and king bed. Breakfast was delicious and they put fresh coffee outside your door in the morning to enjoy in your room. All their toiletry products are from the local lavender farm and they provide robes and slippers. It had a spa like feel. There are non obtrusive flat TV's in each room and free wi-fi. They also provide wine glasses and openers. We went in early November, so didn't get to enjoy the porch or garden because it was cold, but each room has a private door leading outside. All in all, our experience was great and we highly recommend the Kirk house. read more

Celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary at Kirk House. We had a fantastic stay. Doug and Roxy are really working hard to make this a nice B&B. The house is well-appointed, and attention to detail seems to be the theme. Very clean and comfortable. Very quiet. Excellent Breakfasts... with a LOT of food. Each breakfast had nice yogurt parfait, a savory dish, and a pastry. I recommend for couples that want a quiet place to head out from each day. You can easily walk to Kirk House from the Ferry, and you are only a couple of blocks from the main tourist area. There isn't a view so just know that you are up in a neighborhood... but it's so easy to get to a view that it really doesn't matter. Really well-run place by caring couple. read more

If you enjoy B & B's, you are in for a treat at the Kirk House. My husband and I both loved staying there, from the very comfortable bed, to the incredible hospitality shown by Doug and Roxy. We found it easy to walk from the harbor to the Kirk House with luggage in tow. It's uphill, but it's not far. The kindness and caring by our hosts was outstanding. Roxy prepares delicious food, including afternoon snacks, with very hearty breakfasts. Doug gives each guest an early morning coffee basket (SO wonderful). And, they start each breakfast with homemade granola. While staying four nights, we witnessed such kindness and hospitality and we look forward to returning soon. read more

We took a short family vacation to Friday Harbor and stayed at the Kirk House B&B. The place was immaculate and the proprietors could not have been nicer. They were extremely attentive, gave us great recommendations for dinner and sightseeing on the island and the breakfast was fantastic. We walked to and from town on several occasions, which took no more than five minutes. It's alot closer than the maps make it look on google. Plus, you walk right through the downtown shopping area of Friday Harbor, which makes the trip even more enjoyable. Rooms were quaint, clean, and the B&B was very well adorned. If you're looking for a great place to stay with an authentic bed and breakfast experience Kirk House is the best the island has to offer. read more

My parents went on a road trip for their 40th anniversary in June 2013. I called ahead to speak to the owners to make their trip more special. I reached Roxy by both telephone and e-mail, and she was eager to help in whatever way possible. The Kirk House had champagne, a book from the year they were married, a small banner, and other festive things in the room when my parents arrived. They even made a trip to a local restaurant to present my parents with a gift certificate for a fancy dinner. Roxy was very nice and extremely accomodating. My parents absolutely loved their stay at the Kirk house and would definitely go back there again if in the area. read more

Roxy and Doug were wonderful hosts; they immediately made us feel welcome, gave us a very informative tour of the place, and offered us a number of things to make our stay and trip more enjoyable (e.g., DVDs & books, travel guides, map of the island). The room was beautiful and had everything we needed (and more). We especially appreciated the filtered water, private patio area, local lavender bath products, and a coffee/tea basket outside our door in the morning. Breakfast in the morning was spectacular; we had delicious yogurt parfaits, quiche, and blueberry scones. Roxy was nice enough to wrap up our leftover scones, to take with us as an afternoon snack. It was nice to not only get to know Doug and Roxy, but also get to know the others that were staying there over breakfast. Roxy also prepared a snack time, with delicious brownies and other goodies--she is an outstanding cook! The location of the B&B was also great; I'd imagine you could easily walk to restaurants, although we took the car because we wanted to take a drive around the island. Everything about our stay was good; I keep racking my brain for things I did not like, or that they could improve on, but can't think of anything. The only thing I wished was different about our stay was that we could stay longer to enjoy the B&B more--we were out most of our trip, doing other things! read more

In July my wife & I stayed three nights in the Veranda room at The Kirk House for our 9th anniversary and had an extremely pleasant stay. Doug & Roxy were very welcoming and truly genuine. The breakfasts were several courses, homemade, and scrumptious...plus fresh roasted and brewed coffee was brought right to our door every morning! The afternoon snacks & fruit were refreshing too. We loved the location of the Kirk House as it was easily walkable to the downtown, but away from the hustle and bustle of the harbor and the noise that comes with that. The houses' veranda was quaint and welcoming, complete with candles in the evening. Our room was clean and had wonderful touches of hospitality...like Pelindaba Lavender products and chocolates & fresh lemon water that were restocked daily. The Kirk House is a great B&B. We stayed there 2 nights in the Trellis room in late September. There are 3 areas I feel makes a great B&B, the house, the proprietor, and the location. The house and guest rooms were far better than your typical B&B. The rooms were larger than normal for an older house and were better appointed. The Trellis room was not my first choice since the picture on the web site makes it look a little feminine but the other rooms were booked. It was not too feminine and was actually quite good. The common area was comfortable and well appointed. If it was my house, I could really have some nice parties in that common area. The breakfasts were excellent and too tempting if you are watching calories. The proprietors, Roxy and Doug, seem to be a natural for this business. They were attentive, organized, creative, and just overall a joy to talk with. It's hard to believe they have only been proprietors for less than a year. It could be their newness to the business that allows them to still hold on to that spark and joy they bring to their job. The location at Friday Harbor is great. It is close to the downtown area without being in the middle of a noisy area. We walked to the B&B from the ferry and walked to the restaurants every night. Too often B&Bs are located in inconvenient locations. I would definitely recommend the Kirk House to anyone going to Friday Harbor. read more
