The place was cute and quaint. The common area was nice and stocked with coffee and tea. We stayed in the Fidalgo room, it was small but cozy. The reason for the three stars is there was multiple chunks of black hair in the bedsheets when we pulled them back. For $345 a night I would have expected a clean bed and not a bunch of women's black hair. It was actually quite gross and if we were staying somewhere with a front desk I would have definitely asked to change rooms. Other than that everything else seemed clean and it was quiet. The only other thing to note is there is no sink in the bathroom so you need to wash your face and brush teeth in the kitchenette.

It was my first time on the San Juan Islands, hence, my first time in Friday Harbor. I stayed here on two separate nights, but on the same weekend (one night before and after a seakayaking/camping trip)! Don't think I could have picked a better place to stay! Upon arrival on Friday afternoon, I was greeted by Tory, who was an extremely friendly and nice guy! He gave me great recommendations on where to eat for lunch/dinner and places to drink. My highlights: - Just a couple of blocks away from the ferry. - Within walking distance from the grocery store, bank, restaurants and shopping - WiFi and breakfast is included (they have dairy-free AND gluten free yogurt!!! Dee-lish!) - They also have afternoon snacks that consists of delicious homemade strawberry lemonade and homemade cookies! - There's a bar right across the street so Friday night was pretty busy with a lot of folks out drinking but it was extremely quiet in my room (Skipjack)... go down the hall and poke your head out the window and you hear all the noise! - Comfy bed and pillows!! However, I did get a couple of bruises from the darned corners of the bed. - Clean bathrooms - They have bicycles you could use to get around, if you wanted to. Overall, a very, very lovely and homey establishment AND it's affordable. I will definitely be back to stay here when I return to the islands!

Everything about this place was great. They were easy to reach about everything. Check in and check out was fully electronic due to COVID and was super easy. The place was beautiful and well maintained. We will be booking another trip to this wonderful hidden getaway.

What a great hotel! We scored and got our own little studio on the first floor, which has a separate entrance from the hotel - highly recommend spending the extra dollars, as you get your own private bathroom, unlike the rest of the hotel that is communal. The complimentary breakfast every morning was a nice touch. Fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, yogurt, cereals & fresh baked scones. Yum! The hotel is in a great location, right in the middle of town walking distance to everything. They have beach cruiser bikes that you can rent to take around town but unfortunately we didn't have time to partake in that. We will definitely re visit next time we come to Friday! :)

I am currently in my room here, and I never want to leave. We are considering "missing" our ferry tomorrow and staying an extra night. It feels like a mini, cozy apartment that is letting us escape from reality. The robes are plush and so comfortable. The staff was over the top helpful, and I am so looking forward to breakfast in the morning. We are going to make this a regular trip, and definitely a regular stay. I AM IN LOVE. Update: I've now gotten back to Spokane from my trip, and I'm longing for the bird rock. The breakfast was worth the wait - absolutely the best continental breakfast I've ever had. Gluten free options, and delicious scones. The front desk lady - I wish I knew her name - was so helpful and sweet and made even the check out a good experience. I miss you bird rock, I can't wait to come back this summer.

We loved it here! Can't wait to come back!

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. We loved it!!! It's very quaint and lovely. We stayed in the Orcas suite and were very pleased! The building is very old and historic. But the interior is totally updated and beautifully decorated! It was so comfortable and had such a "homey" feel which we found very refreshing! The hotel provides earplugs, which I had actually read about in other reviews. Sleeping with the windows open during the summer in the middle of town, there was a little noise. It definitely wasn't a big deal though! We would most definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it!

The outside of hotel..looks rustic on the outside, but inside is modern!

We got here at 10:00 at night. The night manager was kind enough to come outside and let us in. When we got to our room, we were happy to see that there were robes on the bed. They were so comfy! We stayed in the Matia room and the bed was also very comfy. The pillows were super soft. The Matia room is on the top floor,(there are 3 floors) and there is no bathroom in the hotel room. There are shared bathrooms on the second floor. It was no problem for us to use the bathroom downstairs. In the morning, they have breakfast in the lobby. The breakfast includes coffee, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, and homemade scones. Yum!! This breakfast may sound basic but it's so delicious! In the afternoon, they have lemonade and cookies in the lobby. We had cookies that were fresh right out of the oven, and they were great! The staff were very nice and helped us find fun things to do in town. We brought a movie that we wanted to watch, but there was no DVD player in our room. Luckily, their sister hotel down the road, the Earthbox Inn & Spa had one that we could use for free. They had movies that we could borrow for free also. The Earthbox has a pool and hot tub that guests at Bird Rock can use. When we got back to the hotel, we couldn't find the place to plug the DVD player into. We asked in the lobby, and a very nice man came to help us. He fixed it up and we were able to watch the movie. They have free bikes you can use, but we didn't have a chance to use them. If you are coming to Friday Harbor and need a place to stay, Bird Rock Hotel is a great place!

The grounds -- consisting of about 4 or 5 separate buildings -- had a lovely chill vibe, lots of greenery around the compound, an indoor pool and sauna and a nice array of separate outdoor seating areas. Also, not gonna lie -- accommodations are upscale Best Western level, which again, I have no problem with, but just so ya know, that's 300 greenbacks in high season. Hey, it's an island, I get it, there's not many options; Just throwing it out there. Our Queen Standard room was on the small side, but the bath/shower was perfectly adequate (if a bit dated), as was the A/C, and the bed and bedding was pretty comfortable. The staff too was awesome, cheery and happy to meet any need. We loved the pool and jacuzzi setup, and there's even a little exercise room in the same building. One thing I could have done without were the 5 or so emails I received before check-in, begging me to complete the online check-in form ahead of time, so I could just go right to the room without needing to stop at the office. Didn't work and I still had to physically check in. So yea, that was a pain. And yet? They still get 4 stars. Our one-night stay may have been expensive but it was very comfortable.

We were unfortunate to be there when the water pump for the property broke on our second evening. We had been out cycling all day and desperately needed showers. So this meant no showers, no toilet, no hand washing, etc. etc. They gave us a pitcher of water so we could brush our teeth and a bucket of water to do 1 toilet flush. They were super nice and apologetic. They gave us a bottle of wine and a few pieces of nice soap as a consolation. That's the disappointment and why I knocked them down to 2 stars (it would have been a 1 star had the rest of the experience note been so nice). I know this was an unexpected event. And they should have refunded part of the not-inconsequential price for that night or offered a discount on a future stay. A bottle of wine did not change the fact that I went home from my birthday weekend filthy and dying for a bathroom visit. Running water is expected when you've spent $500 a night for a room.

There are so many positives I am sure I missed some. Location: Close to town (5min), also centrally located to head to any part of the island! County Setting (5 acres) with livestock you can feed! Our room had an en-suite bathroom that was clean and had modern fixtures. Wonderful hosts! Claudia, Tyrone & Sveva. Claudia made an amazing breakfast each morning. She even baked chocolate chip cookies daily, there was also coffee, tea, & hot coco available at any time for us to have from the kitchen. We really enjoyed feeding the Alpacas and Pygmy Goats. The animals were so adorable and friendly. My only con was our initial impression of the room as it did not have a TV. But as our stay went on, we thoroughly enjoyed not having a TV in the room, it allowed us to disconnect more and take in the beauty of the island and surroundings. They do have a family/tv room, but we never felt the need to turn it on. We walked everywhere in town except one day; there was a car rental place within walking distance & we were able to explore the rest of the island. There is no denying that the Courtyard Suites have a fantastic location! -The owner allowed us to store our luggage in the suite before check-in time as the Clipper arrived very early in the morning. She provided the same courtesy during the day we checked out. This was much appreciated. Cons: -I hardly slept well at all during our 4 night stay here. -There is a trash dumpster right outside the window by the bed. Three of the four mornings, a loud truck came & emptied the dumpster before 7 a.m. It's possible one of the trucks was a fuel truck as well, I was too tired to look out the window. There was no way to sleep through this racket. -We attempted to keep the windows open to allow a breeze at night since there is no AC. Several nights my husband & I couldn't sleep from the blinds banging, & ended up having to be hot with no cross ventilation just to stop the noise. -By the time tax was added & $12/night for my son to sleep on the futon, it ended up being pricier than we expected at $255 per night.
