    Stained mattress.

I am stunned at the amount of 5-star reviews for this place, but maybe we were unlucky and/or the reviews are a little old. After making our way to the third floor down a sketchy carpeted hallway, the room was disappointing. The mattress had a weird stain on it, the desk chair had hair hanging off of it. There was a bench in the entryway that looked like it had been sitting outside because it had leaves and sticks in the seams. On top of that, half the tv channels didn't work. And, there's no security bolt on the door. There is a deadbolt in addition to the lock on the door handle, but the deadbolt keyhole is accessible on the outside too. And - the walls are super thin. I heard other visitors talking until past 10pm. It reminded me of a Super 8 motel in Anaheim we stayed at a while back. We did not have the time or energy to ask for a different room. Ultimately, it served its purpose to provide a place to crash and a hot shower, but I am not coming back.

The little charming touches that make the hotel special

Great, charming Inn at Friday Harbor. We were able to take an earlier ferry to the island & stopped at the inn to drop off our luggage but Miriam said that she had two adjoining rooms ready for us. She ran up to check & turn on the heat in the rooms before she checked us in. During check-in, Miriam took out a map of the island, marked & hi-lited the places of interest. From the hotel, most places of interest were about 30 minutes away. The rooms were well appointed, chic-ly decorated, spacious, and very clean, it even had a love seat. The coffee bar was attractively & generously stocked with a regular size Keurig, coffees, teas, & cocoa. They even supplied lids for the to-go cups. Nice mini-refrigerator too. Location was less than a 5 minute drive to town, definitely walkable. Spring has just begun & the temps are still cool so the pool & hot spa were not open yet. This was our favorite hotel & reception staff of our three day road trip to the San Juan Islands.

The staff was super friendly! Had a lot of good recommendations on food and activities. We also loved the yard games! Was fun to walk around the beautiful property. The best part would have to be the hot tub. It's huge and really well maintained. It was a little longer walk from town than we anticipated but lots of parking on the streets if you wanna just drive to town. Can't beat the price! We will definitely look into staying here again. But I will bring my own pillow. They were a little over stuffed for me so had a hard time getting comfortable.

Great stay. Very clean, updated, comfortable and quiet. Was a lovely stay. Friendly staff. Highly recommend. Will stay here next time in town.

A wonderful beverage station. Their amenities included mini fridge and microwave.

I reserved a night at the Discovery Inn for me and my family. If it is your first time, Friday harbor is not a very affordable place so I was thrilled when I found this place was in my budget. I have to admit that every time I find a place that is low cost/affordable I got the feeling that im into a surprise. And I was indeed, a wonderful surprise. Beautiful bedroom, very clean, wonderful pressure in the shower and very friendly people at the front desk. 10/10 would recommend

Discovery Inn is a pretty good value in terms of what you get for your money, but it's never going to be confused with a 5-star hotel. It does have a nice location: one half mile out of town. It's nice because you're out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Friday Harbor, but close enough to walk into town. Other positives are good parking and a very strong and free Wi-Fi signal. There's also an outdoor jacuzzi if you're into that. That's the good news. The bad news is the room itself. Definitely nothing fancy, and the bathroom is pretty small, with a tiny little sink and vanity that you can't even set your stuff out on. The walls and ceilings are paper-thin; my last night there I got the pleasure of hearing my downstairs neighbor's entire phone conversation until 1:30 AM. The TV is pretty tiny (with no volume limiter, so I hope you like what the neighbors like) and the bed is nothing to write home about. There was a nice comfy reading chair though. The people who run it are very nice and very friendly and helpful, but they just don't have a great place to work with. Still, for around $100 a night, it's probably a lot better deal than staying right in town and paying $150 - $300.

Complimentary water and chocolates at check in

I think this inn is in between 3-4 stars. It was our families first time visiting Friday harbor and we weren't sure where everything was located or where we should stay... I booked discovery inn because of all the great reviews. Let's start with the good.. -Great that they offer complimentary water and chocolates! -Loved the park like setting, it was a nice place for all 13 of us to have lunch and dinner together without feeling cooped up in a room. -Loved the fridge and microwave -Spacious and clean rooms -Sad they wouldn't let us check in early -I was debating between staying here or the earth box because prices were about the same. When we arrived on the island I saw that the earth box was right on the main strip and was really disappointed I paid more for a place that was a mile out from town! All in all a nice stay.

My wife & I stayed here Monday - Thursday as Friday Harbor rookies. This place worked out great. We enjoyed the fact that the rooms are not like a downtown Seattle chain. They're a bit of a step back in time. Had to use actual keys to get in the room. Not plastic cards. We were greeted by Missy as we checked in. She was quite helpful with the in's & out's of touristy locations and restaurants. Follow her lead! It obvious that the room had been renovated. It was very clean. A big plus for me were the room darkening blinds. Amen! So glad not to have deal with the early light. There's a fridge, coffeemaker & microwave also. We were on the backside and did not hear any road noise. The Jacuzzi was clean & hot. Awesome after a day of hiking around the island. My wife walked the mile to town and back for coffee and enjoyed reading in the park like setting. On the downside, the hot water had a very squeaky faucet. The toilet paper roll is at a tough angle. We set it on the side of the tub. We highly recommend Discovery Inn. Dan & Missy do a great job of running things.

The location is great - close to everything in Friday Harbor but not on a street with as much traffic as some others. The customer service is great - just send them a text and you get a response in seconds. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room interior was good - everything looked clean with plenty of toiletries, cozy robes, and a heated bathroom floor. The bathroom in general was dated. We had a non operational jetted tub that had been converted into a duel faucet rain shower. It was rather weird, but it worked. I also really liked the keyless entry, so no worries about losing your key! Now, my one negative. Our room, and I'm assuming all rooms on this side of the building, abut a loading dock and parking lot for an adjacent grocery store. Every morning at 5am, a semi truck, fork lift, and workers unload the truck. In addition to back up safety alarms, truck engines idling, and workers talking, you also hear the constant rumbling of goods being unloaded. This goes on for HOURS.....starting at 5am. The hotel gives you ear plugs and notes that there is no noise ordinance on the island and notes that neighbors can be noisy and the hotel can't do anything about that. I get it...you can't control noisy patrons or neighbors, but the description given doesn't really convey what is actually going on with this side of the building. Constant, very loud noise and alarms for over two hours starting at 5am. All that said, I would stay here again, but I would make sure any room I book has views of the harbor, and not the back side of the hotel.

It has steps, indoors and out (I found the outdoor steps easier on my bad hip) and it's just a lovely place - nicely decorated and SO clean. We did not find the hotel loud, but they offer earplugs just in case. The mattress was great, seriously- firn enough but with a soft topper or something, we both slept so well.

Also, not gonna lie -- accommodations are upscale Best Western level, which again, I have no problem with, but just so ya know, that's 300 greenbacks in high season. Hey, it's an island, I get it, there's not many options; Just throwing it out there. Our Queen Standard room was on the small side, but the bath/shower was perfectly adequate (if a bit dated), as was the A/C, and the bed and bedding was pretty comfortable. The staff too was awesome, cheery and happy to meet any need. We loved the pool and jacuzzi setup, and there's even a little exercise room in the same building. One thing I could have done without were the 5 or so emails I received before check-in, begging me to complete the online check-in form ahead of time, so I could just go right to the room without needing to stop at the office. Didn't work and I still had to physically check in. So yea, that was a pain. And yet? They still get 4 stars. Our one-night stay may have been expensive but it was very comfortable.

That's the disappointment and why I knocked them down to 2 stars (it would have been a 1 star had the rest of the experience note been so nice). I know this was an unexpected event.
