Location cannot be beat. It is literally steps from the harbor, and you can step right off of your boat, the ferry or the seaplane. Check-in and quick and easy. I stayed in Sweet 1 which is the 1st room up the stairs. So convenient to going everywhere. Room is super spacious and everything was comfortable. Nice touch with the welcome fruit bowl. Bath was also spacious and toiletries were well-stocked and great quality (all Malin+Goetz!). Super close to restaurants, bars, and the town, where parking is difficult (so being able to walk was a big perk!). Only negatives (and they were very minor) were the missing water and coffeemaker in the room, and the difficulty in understanding the instructions for the shower head.

Oh, man. This is a tough review to write. First off, there are so many things I really like about…read morethis hotel. The location is great - close to everything in Friday Harbor but not on a street with as much traffic as some others. The customer service is great - just send them a text and you get a response in seconds. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room interior was good - everything looked clean with plenty of toiletries, cozy robes, and a heated bathroom floor. The bathroom in general was dated. We had a non operational jetted tub that had been converted into a duel faucet rain shower. It was rather weird, but it worked. I also really liked the keyless entry, so no worries about losing your key! Now, my one negative. Our room, and I'm assuming all rooms on this side of the building, abut a loading dock and parking lot for an adjacent grocery store. Every morning at 5am, a semi truck, fork lift, and workers unload the truck. In addition to back up safety alarms, truck engines idling, and workers talking, you also hear the constant rumbling of goods being unloaded. This goes on for HOURS.....starting at 5am. The hotel gives you ear plugs and notes that there is no noise ordinance on the island and notes that neighbors can be noisy and the hotel can't do anything about that. I get it...you can't control noisy patrons or neighbors, but the description given doesn't really convey what is actually going on with this side of the building. Constant, very loud noise and alarms for over two hours starting at 5am. All that said, I would stay here again, but I would make sure any room I book has views of the harbor, and not the back side of the hotel.

It has steps, indoors and out (I found the outdoor steps easier on my bad hip) and it's just a lovely place - nicely decorated and SO clean. Our room was Fidalgo, we had a big soaker tub and kitchen area, I loved having two places to watch tv since sometimes one of you can sleep and the other is enjoying vacation insomnia time. ;) Out back, a walk through a parking lot takes you to King's Market which had everything. We did not find the hotel loud, but they offer earplugs just in case. The mattress was great, seriously- firn enough but with a soft topper or something, we both slept so well.

Not gonna lie -- Earthbox turned out to be a wonderfully refreshing change from a generic hotel…read morestay. The grounds -- consisting of about 4 or 5 separate buildings -- had a lovely chill vibe, lots of greenery around the compound, an indoor pool and sauna and a nice array of separate outdoor seating areas. The separate office/lobby was a large but cozy welcoming space with a fireplace, couches and coffee and a comfy spot to relax in. Also, not gonna lie -- accommodations are upscale Best Western level, which again, I have no problem with, but just so ya know, that's 300 greenbacks in high season. Hey, it's an island, I get it, there's not many options; Just throwing it out there. Our Queen Standard room was on the small side, but the bath/shower was perfectly adequate (if a bit dated), as was the A/C, and the bed and bedding was pretty comfortable. The staff too was awesome, cheery and happy to meet any need. We loved the pool and jacuzzi setup, and there's even a little exercise room in the same building. One thing I could have done without were the 5 or so emails I received before check-in, begging me to complete the online check-in form ahead of time, so I could just go right to the room without needing to stop at the office. Didn't work and I still had to physically check in. So yea, that was a pain. And yet? They still get 4 stars. Our one-night stay may have been expensive but it was very comfortable.

Right off the bat, they were very polite,…read morecourteous, and cordial via text to get all set up and pre-checked in so that we could go straight to our room when we arrived. I really appreciated that they had free EV chargers for guests, so we could plug in our car after a long day of driving and riding the ferry, at no additional charge. Spectacular. They are centrally located to everything you might want to do in Friday Harbor, so we only had to take our car once, when we went sightseeing around the island. Otherwise, it just stayed parked because we could walk everywhere, which was really nice. Everyone I interacted with during our stay was pleasant and professional. We had a maintenance issue in our room and they were quick to remedy it. I was a little disappointed that our room did not have some kind of fan to move air and the AC only went down to about 67 degrees and the furniture felt a bit...damp, so that is the reason for the 4 stars. I like my room to be cold, crisp, and clean and the one we stayed in just felt a bit...musty. Also, the local lavender farm is closed and the products are now sourced from Whidbey Island, but that was not disclosed to me until I asked, so I might suggest updating the information in the rooms. I was a bit disappointed we couldn't visit the lavender farm on island because it was permanently closed and so the sign in the bathroom kind of set me up for failure. All in all, it was a mostly pleasant stay and I would return the next time we want to visit Friday Harbor.

We never used the jacuzzi but playing table tennis and cornhole and even badminton (although we had to use the volleyball court for badminton). The rooms were tastefully decorated and well stocked with vital supplies. The best part of staying at Discovery Inn, however, has to be the people working there. We were so impressed with Mel just talking with her and making our reservation. And what a delight to discover that she was even more gracious and kind and knowledgeable about the island and where to go in person. And everyone we met at the Inn was just as nice and accommodating. We can't imagine finding a better spot to stay when vacationing on San Juan Island.

Pluses: Thoughtfully appointed room and architecture, attractive grounds, friendly hosts. Night…read morelight in the bathroom. Slippers and sleep masks provided. Complimentary earplugs. Stool to sit on while putting on shoes. Extra ottomans that luggage can be placed on. Minuses: Would have preferred medium roast coffee (not just french roast), more outlets for chargers, a hand wand for the shower, and an elevator. (Mobility challenged should get a ground floor room.)

Quite possibly one of the cutest places I have stayed! The Ferry Landing Suites looks directly over…read morethe ferry terminal and as you sit on the deck, or hang out on the couch you can watch the ferry's come in and out of the dock. We stayed in the Yakima suite which is on the very top of this classically fun looking building. The suite was equipped with a kitchenette, wrap around deck with sun chairs, fireplace, and entertainment system. And if that wasn't enough, the bed was tucked away in a cove that has a skylight for looking at the stars. One of the best things about this suite is that directly below the room is a bakery and cafe that serves fresh pastries and coffee from early in the morning till the evening. All the perks of a bed and breakfast without having to check in and out with anyone. I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend getaway with your loved one, or rent out the site below as well for a big group of friends to enjoy all that Friday Harbor has to offer.

Plenty of outdoor activities, boats, bikes, hikes, and plenty to do near by on the island. -Rooms were beautiful, bed was tall, bed was big, but bed made noise (iykyk) - Bathroom was clean, spacious, and was well lit. -Closet and amenities were on point. Robes, cups, steamer, lantern, and coffee. But no tv or mini fridge. They had plenty of golf carts to get you around the town.
