Have to start off this review with the wait times. Yes, they are long. Have one person from your party put you on the wait list. They use Toast and send you a link to check your place in line so you could plan accordingly. We went at 5pm and were given a wait time of 35/40mins for two people. We waited an hour. We ordered quickly. Our server, Marlene, was very sweet. The appetizer (the sampler) was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfection. The crab cake entree was good. My wife loved the coleslaw. A fantastic local establishment with exceptional service, high-quality cuisine, and a wide range of menu choices. Our group of four was seated with a smile, even as the restaurant was nearing closing time, and our waitress was incredibly welcoming. We kicked off with some delicious appetizers: cheese steak eggrolls and beer can shrimp - both were delicious. Moving on to our main courses, we savored the fried chicken salad, BBQ burger (a double!), crab cake sandwich, and the big kahuna burger, all prepared to perfection and bursting with flavor. To top it off, we couldn't decide on a dessert, so we indulged in a variety (except for the milkshakes), which were all exceptional. However, the unanimous favorite was the hot apple crisp with ice cream. The most memorable moment of the evening was when we were discussing our plans to head back home since this was our last night in the area. Since our bellies were full and sugar high on full throttle, we considered leaving after dinner. Our waitress, with genuine warmth, said ""after what just happened here, yall should get a good nights sleep and leave in the morning" Whether it was the food or the jovial spirit, we couldn't stop laughing for a good 10 minutes after leaving the restaurant. Stopped by here today after a kitty hawk beach trip per my Philly friend's recommendation- and boy am I thankful I did. The vibe is laid back, artsy eclectic with punk-rockish/surfer waitstaff who are more than happy to help but not fake-nice, and know the menu well. Since I'm gluten free, I ordered the house wings and basil vinaigrette salad with goat cheese. Both were utterly fantastic with literally NO room for improvement. The 7 or 8 wings were moist, varied between drum and winglet, and with enough char and house spice (medium spice lvl for my taste buds- about a 4) that I didn't need to drench them in the ranch dressing (though, I did at the end to finish them off as a "dessert," since the ranch was deliciously sweet). The salad was super refreshing with crisp, fresh leaves, carrots, and chopped cucumbers (no skin! Woohoo!) and exactly what I needed to offset the heavy, semi-greasy wings. My sister and brother in law took me out for luch for my 77th birthday (well a day late)..The food was fabulous...Let me tell you about our waitress... A big smile. She didn't rush through the daily specials and gave us time to think about each one.. And explained each one perfectly.. Got our drink orders. at an appropriate time she came back to get our orders.. I watched her interact with other patrons with smiles and laughs. ... She had introduced herself as Rachel.. So, as she took our order, I said I bet your mom was a mail carrier?..She looked in shock. We did. I remeber Rachel as a little pipsqueek.....Now the busboys.. My brother in law has mobility problems, uses a cane.. As we came in and as we were leaving these young men hovered nearbye in case we needed help.. As I was helping my brother I looked up and one young man dipped his head in a silent signal that he was there and ready to help......... Kill Devil Grill is the best restaurant in the OBX. They run the ship like a well oiled machine! We arrived at 11:20 because we knew they'd have a big line. Got in the restaurant at 12 and food started arriving to our table around 12:35ish. ALL the employees are super nice and helpful, they work together to make sure customers are satisfied. An example from today.. my wife wanted the chocolate pecan pie however we were told they didn't have it. So we got the strawberry shortcake which was friggin' amazing! BUT moments later the waitress came back and said they just got the chocolate pecan was actually in! So they gave us a slice on the house! Crab cake is amazing, not a crazy amount of filler like other restaurants, it was perfection. My kids loved the food too! Great burgers, amazing and fresh salads The Kill Devil Grill is an awesome spot to eat while at the OBX, it's for the great ambiance, great employees and great prices. First off, love the Metallica references. It's awesome. We pulled in and there was a ton of really neat cars in the parking lot. The service was very attentive and the wings are spicy but amazing. I need to give this some extra stars! Our waiter CY was AMAZING! He always refilled our drinks, answered our questions, let us know what was going on, my salad came out with appetizers and he said he wanted it to come out later so it wasn't so much at once, was that okay that it did come out early? ... I mean how nice! I was totally fine. We did have about a 30 minute wait, the place was hopping and steady. A lot of people had to go orders too but it was all very smooth. We got our name put on a list and they called when it was ready. We sat outside in a nice covered area, there were lights, and heat (it was chilly). We asked about the heat and they kicked it on. The food was BEYOND DELICIOUS! This will definitely be one of my NEW GO TO spots when I come down here. I cannot believe I have skipped over this place. The Cesar salad was SO good.. I don't know why but it was AMAZING! The cheesesteak egg rolls were delicious! The waiter recommended them... awesome job! The ladies I was with got a few different specials they had and they were beyond surprised with HOW amazing the food was. Fresh scallops, succotash, and grits... AMAZING. The crab cakes were beyond what I expected, huge lumps of crab meat, the dip is SO excellently paired. I opted for mashed potatoes vs fries. This place is a sleeper! Can't tell by the front diner style look but when you drive in you'll see the back section. Everything from the music to the drinks to the main course got me fired up on how amazing it was. The drinks were made the way you would expect a 13.00 drink should be, one drink perfect flavors and great balance to buzz you up and taste good without overpowering the palate. The food INCREDIBLE!!!! We had the wings which are my new number 1 wing within 4 states!! I had steak and she had the Cesar salad which flavor F***ed the mouth and left us speechless. this is our new favorite spot and will be visiting quite often. We had an excellent meal on Friday night! We got there at 6:00pm and had to wait for an hour for an outdoor table. They have a bunch of picnic table set up with plants around them and an overhang tent like structure to protect customers from rain and sun. Our server was really nice, Cy. He provided recommendations and enquirer to the kitchen whether a soft chill crab sandwich could be made. We ordered that plus French Fries. Both of those tasted really good. We started with their wings and they were out of this world. Cy told us they were made in house, marinaded, and then grilled--delicious. I had the burger, and it was super thick and juicy. The coleslaw with it was super fresh. The crab sandwich was nice and crunchy with nice flavor. These guys hit a home run on all their food, especially the homemade buttermilk ranch, we took some home, it was so good. read more
