This is our go to breakfast place on the way to the Sunrise area of Mt. Rainier. We always order one of the scrambles and they split it for us. Fantastic, friendly, fast staff. Hot and fresh, unique breakfast items. The scrambles are HUGE. Definitely get the fresh, hot muffins before your meal. They are also huge. Well....I'm having a hard time writing this review.... The Kettle is just not the same.... The once amazine mom and pops breakfast spot...is now a seemingly glorified Dennys. The new ownership has cut corners, made changes to a variety of menu items...but will still say..."same ingredients, same recipes"...etc etc.... Maybe it's the cooks, maybe it's different food....im not sure. WHAT IS sure is that the changes that have been made do not reflect positively for this once great establishment. I've been going there for many...many years, brought my children (now all adults) up on their food. Times change, and so has the Kettle. I bookmarked The Kettle because it was going to be on our way back after our hike and we wanted a brunch spot. So it's a little over an hour away from Sunrise Visitor Center, but perfect location if you are heading back to Seattle from there, you go through the city of Enumclaw. We had a party of 7. I ordered: - Beef Hash with over easy eggs (not what I was expecting with the hamburger meat, I was expecting Corned Beef Hash) - a few ppl got omelettes - others got scrambles - pancakes and what not Portions are most definitely HUGE here. Quality of food though is alright. The best part of the meal I felt were the muffins. I got the cinnamon one and others got blueberry. They were nice and warm out of the oven feel. We just enjoyed another scrumptious enormous breakfast at this little family restaurant. The service was wonderful, the location clean and the portions HUGE. I treated my sons, a sailor and a marine to breakfast. When I told the waiter that the Kettle is the only place with portions that will fill up a sailor home on leave, the restaurant thanked him for his service, and removed his breakfast from the bill. Absolutely delicious breakfast/brunch meal at the Kettle. I got the eggs Benedict (poached eggs,ham on English muffin) the Holland side sauce. The breakfast was loaded with a generous amount of taters and a side of fresh fruit. It also comes with a choice of blueberry or cinnamon muffin with butter. I can't believe how amazing the place is and friendly the waitress was. Tried The Kettle for the first time, we heard lots of great stories! The Kettle was clean and well lit. Every time we drive by it always looks busy, today was not the case. We were the fourth table at the time and service was very slow. We both had the Hillbilly, bacon and sausage. The food arrived barely warm, needed to ask for a second cup of coffee and when we were ready to leave had to wait for our check and four times as long for us to be able to close out. I don't know how they deal with a busy restaurant but a slow period is poor. We will give them a break and try the kettle again sometime soon, we hope that they were tired from a busy breakfast run and just had not fully recovered. read more

OH HOLY DUTCH COWS......their blueberry muffins are fantastic! My friend wanted to stop by Enumclaw to reminisce growing-up here, so we decided to get up early and do breakfast at The Kettle. This place was packed!!! It was fairly early on a Saturday, but apparently everyone comes here, especially the locals. )!After being seated, our server was there a few minutes later. We both ordered scrambles, I got a half order, my friend got the full (which he later regretted, due to being so large). Right after our order, we were quickly given coffee and some beautiful muffins. Soooo good. They tasted like homemade muffins from home, not heavy and full of flavor. We both quickly devoured our muffin and then were served our scramble. Geez, I'm so glad I got the half order, because I would still be eating it days later due to it being so big. The only complaint that I can offer is that the cheese wasn't melted when our food came from the kitchen, but it was still tasty. Our server was excellent, sarcastic and hilarious.....which livens things up. He constantly kept our coffee and water filled, along with asking how everything was. Our server came by after noticing how we were significantly slowing down and asked if we needed a to-go box. When he brought out our boxes, he also gave us two extra muffins for the road. Discombobulated service & tasteless food. Tables and chairs were just crammed together to fit as many patrons as possible. My first time was extremely disappointing. The person who brought us waters asked if we wanted anything else to drink, so we ordered 3 bloody marys. After our order was taken by the server, still no drinks. 20 minutes later we asked our server where the drinks were. She said "oh the busser can't take drink orders." (Ok, why did he ask us then? & since he did take the order, why didn't he share that with her?) 1 of our drinks came with butter wrappers inside it... gross. Great food. Corn beef hash is huge portions. Not so much beef and a lot of potatoes. We got take out and Scotty was there to help. Coffee wasn't that great, but my mushroom burger was yum. The staff here is friendly. If your out of town most likely the staff will know because it seems that everyone that usually comes in to dine they all know each other really well. There's a bunch of tribal art work surrounding the restaurant. The staff also comes around and give you a fresh baked cookie and muffins which was a nice touch. Everything we've had has been delicious. They come around sometimes and give you an extra cookie or muffin. Both are delicious every single time I've had one. The only thing that bothers me at this place is that there's a lot of standing around and employees that could easily not be there. Meaning that there's not enough work for all the employees on the clock. We made the drive to Enumclaw from Renton just to try this place because all the reviews and pictures are amazing! We were not disappointed. The only thing we were unhappy about was that this is so far from our house! We arrived on a Sunday morning and both parking lots (there is one on each side of the building) were packed, but we found a spot. The restaurant was busy but they have a lot more seating than I expected and we were seated right away. The atmosphere is cozy with lots of local decorations. It feels like I'm having breakfast at my aunts house. Our server promptly brought out menus and coffee. She was a super friendly and really nice older lady! At the end of our breakfast we were hoping she'd adopt us as her grandchildren! The food was amazing! The portions are huge! One omelette was more than enough food for the two of us. We had to take home leftovers. The scrambles looked even bigger! And every meal comes with a delicious, fresh made muffin. For the prices, 3 stars. Middle of the road American diner spot. Everything was just about as expected with the exception of the hashbrowns. Pretty sure thesee were last nights baked potatoes that were saved and then turned into hashbrowns but as I come find out, they were not. Just a style I didn't care for, not quite brown enough for me. Overall not very impressive as they were dry, contained some skins, and very melee. The meats were ok and I was told that the pancakes were very good. Hard not to have fresh pancakes. Coffee was hot, soda was fizzy, and the water was wet. Don't think I will ever be back though. Totally starved driving back from a rainy morning at Crystal. Walking in, I knew it would be great given all the super tacky decorations. My first time here. Looks to be a local favorite with lots of plants and kitschy stuff on the walls. I ordered a Denver omelet and it was not great. They used at least day old green peppers which is always a bad idea. The cottage fries (I guess that is what they were) were not great either. They seemed to be warmed over or reheated. My friend was taking me out for breakfast and he loves the place so I did not say anything to the server. If I was solo I would have sent it back and ordered something else which I do not think I have ever done before. The service was good and the portions large. Highly recommend this place. Amazing amount of food!!! We shared a meat lovers scramble and an order of French toast. So delicious and filling! We had enough leftovers for another meal at home. I thought that the leftovers might be dry, but to my surprise, they were moist. Our waitress was top notch. In fact, we came at an hour before closing, the place was packed. We had about a 5 minute wait to be seated. All the staff worked exceptionally well together. We saw 3 people seated at the same table 20 minutes to closing. Their order was placed 3 minutes after sitting and food on table nine minutes later. The owner and another staff member got their drinks and exchanged pleasantries. The serving portions are HUGE and, I mean, really HUGE . So be prepared to take leftovers or split a meal with the person you are with is my advice.
