10.6.23 First off I am going to say I'm sad to write this review. My husband and I came here about a year ago and we loved our food! He got a Reuben and I got a patty melt. We have thought about these sandwiches off and on this whole time. The bread was incredible! So we made a road trip here today (almost an hour drive - one way) And they have changed their menu. No patty melt, no Reuben, no Ribeye bites. The waitress was nice and said they might be changing the menu soon to add a few items but was not sure. We ordered burgers and fries. Mine was a hamburger, and hubby's was a cheeseburger. The burgers were good but not great. We read a few reviews that said they are more of a "bar" now with live music and service "bar" food than a restaurant. If you like live music (country) this would be a great place to come and enjoy it. We really like the atmosphere here and loved the Reuben and patty melt but for us the drive is a little to far for a "good" burger. read more

Unless you are ordering fried it is reheated and served luke warm. Unless you are ordering drinks, expect minimal service with lackluster staff. Where to begin, the Sunday Vibe with live music was amazing, the band playing was called the "Gospel Gathering" and they play the first Sunday of every month, if Angels can sing it's these guys! Our server Madeline was simply fantastic ask for her you will love her, the Bloody Mary's are sooooo good and made with their homemade mix, the food was great. Before today, I had never heard of The Kenney Store. Yelp did me right again !! Just a short drive from Brenham and you find yourself in Kenney, Texas. The feel you get when you walk in the front door is like stepping back in time a little. Dance floor and stage to the left and tables to the right. There are additional rooms and even outdoor seating in the back. Not a bad seat in the house!! My waitress was very friendly, and helpful. I had the hamburger steak, with mashed potatoes , green beans, onion rings and a fresh garden salad. That was a lot of good food right there !! After a 2 hour motorcycle ride from Santa Fe, TX, I stopped by this cool spot to have lunch. They have a super casual atmosphere that's perfect for couples, families and bikers. We decided to eat outside at their incredible back patio deck. It's even equipped with a stage for live music. I was told their had good margaritas, so I had to try one. My first order was a regular margarita with salt. Next, I tried the jalapeño margarita. Both were delicious. The jalapeño margarita was super refreshing and unique. I knew immediately what I was going to eat when I looked at their menu. I'm a huge fan of Reuben sandwiches, and try them at every place I can find them. Their sandwich is served with fries or house made chips. I opted for the house mad chips, but I should haves ordered the chips. The Rueben was delicious and the largest one I've ever had. I will definitely come back. It's a great scenic ride on the motorcycle to get there. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the service was slow and we often needed to chase down our server. read more

Gone is the Kenney Store that we used to love coming to eat at on the weekends! They've since cut the menu to a handful of items that weren't even the favorites from the old menu and the quality of the food was terrible. All our food came out cold. The green beans were very salty and straight from the can. The chicken breast was dry and the size of a kid's meal portion with no flavor. The fish tacos were small and had minimal flavor as well. The rest of the food was similar in that it was a half a step above a bad TV dinner. If you haven't been to the Kenney Store in a couple of months... save yourself a trip. read more

If I could give a zero I would. This is the 3rd time I've been here and each time service has been terrible. I figured I would wait just in case they have a one off. Which to be honest every business has an off night. The atmosphere is great. Live music is fabulous. Outside of that lower your expectations. Then, lower them again. I've been to 3rd world countries with service better than this. Everyone I've talked to their experience is the same. You don't come for the food or the service. The 1st time we came, the order was screwed up and the server was on his very first night. So figured no biggie. 2nd time, things were so bad the comped our entire meal for a table of 8. Well, 3rd times the charm they dsay right?? Yea no. Once again ordered the kids food 1st which didn't come. Then when the food came out the fries in the fish baskets were cold. Asked for fresh fries which NEVER came despite asking multiple times. To point where another server had to inquire about the fries, and then went and asked our server. You'd think that if the server knew there was an issue with the kitchen she'd stay on top of what we the problem was. The sever name came unless she was stopped as she passed by. She never even apologized for the wait or the problem with the food. As we sat there we watched as at least a dozen tables got up, and got their own drinks from the bar. Mind you there were plenty of servers to sustain the business they had. Thanks, but no thanks! I can't exactly blame the staff entirely as this is a much bigger problem than that. Management is clearly the problem which trickles down. I can guarantee if another business opened up shop in the same area they'd be hard pressed to make ends meet. Made a lunch stop at the Kinney Store today. Everyone reading this note, and needs a burger fix, needs to add stopping at this place to your agenda. Should you have small hands, bring a friend to help hold your burger (it's supersized). We didn't appreciate the size until the tremendous taste made us wanting each burger last longer. On our way out, we saw our waitress and she said, "you guys never got your food?" She walked over to the computer looked at it and said "I'm sorry about that." Still don't know if it wasn't placed or what happened, but prior to that encounter, she never came back to check on us or let us know it was on its way or if it was still cooking or anything like that. Looks like a cool place with good food, but not dog friendly! We came here because we were traveling with our pup and it's an outdoor setting. However, they haven't figured out how to get people and their pups out back without walking through the main indoor building. I would give a zero star if an option. Went with friends to enjoy the Cleverlys. The security and management patrolled the bar like a high school principal trying to keep us quiet while the "talent was performing". We paid for a table, dinner and drinks and tried to enjoy a festive night listening to the band and talking quietly amongst ourselves when the security guard manhandled my friend and threatened to remove us for talking during the performance. I always have this over-inflated expectation of what a small town, home cooked restaurant should be like and I'm always left disappointed. This place finally achieves everything all the basic-white-girl-lifetime-movies told us small town food should be. Character inside and out, but clean. Friendly and quick waitstaff. Actually homemade food that isn't greasy or tastes frozen. Could be, I don't know. But it definitely doesn't taste like it. I had a strawberry and jalapeño house margarita on the rocks, boudin balls for an appetizer and the Hatch Chile pepperjack burger with fried okra and it was phenomenal. Thick ass juicy burger and the breading to okra ratio was spot on. I will gladly make the two hour drive to come out here on another weekend to get out of town and enjoy some good home cooking. read more

I've been here multiple times over the years. Great burgers, Ruben was amazing and more. Sweet potato fries or shaved ribeye tots were a must. Went this weekend and the menu was cut by 70%. Said there were staffing issues. cheese steaks, tots, fried chicken BLT (was so good) are no longer there. What a bummer. Burger was still good on wonderful bread. This establishments homestyle cooking is just sooooo good. Excellent old decor, staff that are professional, quick and so friendly. The food, what can I say, it was all tasty, generous portions and reasonable. I had the lunch special, chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes (skin still on), fried okra, roll and sweet tea. The other special was homemade meatloaf and we were a little bit late and it was all gone! My wife had soup and 1/2 sandwich and she bragged about both of them for a long time. Another one of their signature dishes is a spinach and artichoke burger so that will have to be for our next trip.
