I was looking for a lot water softener and whole house filter system. The cinco ranch MUD 10 water is horrible. The family could smell the chlorine in the water via shower. So I did some research and got approximately 5 estimates. Some were extremely high and also low. I called the Katy plumbing company. They sent Saul out. This guy was extremely professional and knowledgeable regarding my system. Most of the other companies told me very little. Anyways the got the bid. They showed up on my time, Saul and Kevin were both professional and friendly. They did outstanding work and went the extra mile for me. We recently had an issue with our Kohler Cimarron toilet that wouldn't stop running. I attempted to adjust the fill valve, but when I rotated it, I accidentally broke the seal where it connects to the water supply, causing a small drip on the underside of the tank. Unfortunately, I had shoulder surgery just a week ago, so with my arm in a sling, I had limited ability to fix it myself. Without consulting me, my wife called this plumbing company, and they sent Marshall out. The moment he saw my arm in a sling, I suspect he got excited. I explained what had happened but didn't mention that I have worked in construction management for years. I deal with the "trades" every day and I am very familiar with how they operate, the amount of effort required for a variety of jobs, and the pricing; but the area I work in is in Tennessee and the Carolinas; I live in Katy. Marshall showed up on time and got started right away. A few minutes later, he came back with a bombshell diagnosis: the toilet needed a "total rebuild"--for $377.00. I nearly fell out of my chair. I expected a high price, maybe $150 max (which is still ridiculous), but $377? He claimed: * The stainless steel supply hose needed replacing (it didn't). * The fill valve was bad (true, but a cheap fix). * The flush valve was "pitted" (not true; if needed, the gasket costs $6.47 and takes 30 seconds to replace with no tools). I called him out on the outrageous price, and he even admitted it was too high. He said his boss would call me to "work something out." Of course, that never happened. The Reality I paid their $138 service fee and sent him on his way. Then, I went to Ace Hardware, bought a new fill valve for $14, and despite my limited mobility, I installed it myself in 20 minutes--problem solved. Why I'm Writing This Review This isn't just about overcharging; it's about dishonesty. This company lied to try and sell me an unnecessary, overpriced repair. Yes, businesses can charge what they want, but crossing the line into deception is inexcusable. If they had any decency, they would refund the service fee after getting caught trying to rip me off. But I won't hold my breath. ** Important Note** as of 8:33 am February 22, 2025 Katy Plumbing Company has not yet charged us the service fee, I will update if this changes. Advice for Others 1. Take a deep breath & research your issue * Even if you don't plan to DIY, understanding the problem makes it harder for companies to take advantage of you. * YouTube is a great resource for basic troubleshooting. 2. Be skeptical of glowing reviews * Some companies fake positive reviews. * Read negative reviews carefully and look for patterns. * Cross-reference usernames to see if they have posted other credible reviews. 3. Find a reputable plumber in advance * We've used Chris Skotidas the Plumber (a local Plumber) before, and he is honest as the day is long--unfortunately, he wasn't available. This is my first time dealing with Katy Plumbing. I selected them because they state that they work on smart toilets and they did some work for one of my neighbors. The first plumber that came out was knowledgeable and fixed some of our issues, but I had to use You Tube in order to figure out how to reset our hot water heater and get it to come on again. Home Depot installer never showed me how to do this after the install in 2021. Rheem doesn't answer the phone in a timely manner so you have to seek help from elsewhere. A few days later I had to call back again to Katy Plumbing and now our hot water heater is completely out and the pilot light will not light at all with a reset. They sent a new plumber this time and he told me this was his first day on the job. He also told me that he couldn't stay on the phone for hours waiting for Rheem to answer so he could order the parts needed to repair our hot water heater. I was able to get on Amazon to order the wire harness he suggested I needed immediately, but it will not arrive for two days. I went ahead and ordered a second flammable vapor sensor as well that is Rheem brand and not aftermarket. So Katy Plumbing knows that these issues are taking down customers hot water heaters and they don't stock any of the parts to get them back up and running. They just leave you to order parts and then say to call them back when you have them. Also, there is no follow up with customers. Rheem should be telling customers to have extra of these on hand just in case if they know that this is an issue. People are going to be without hot water for a week. I was also told by the new plumber that he had never seen a gas water heater with an electrical vent. They might need to school their new plumbers. Now I am having doubts if anyone there is actually qualified to work on newer equipment. I am a technician myself in another field and I have to look up and order parts for customers, it is part of my job. In essence, the presence of a "power pack" on top of a gas water heater typically indicates a power vent model, offering advantages in efficiency, installation flexibility, and safety compared to older atmospheric vent designs. However, it also introduces the need for an electrical connection. If you are unsure about the specific components of your water heater, consulting the manufacturer's documentation or a qualified plumber is always recommended. read more

Had an unexpected shower stall leak with dripping water this past week. They were luckily able to fit me in on an emergency basis on 12/21 Saturday morning. Tech rep Troy showed up right on time, had all the right tools and parts for our Moen Posi-Temp, and completed the repair in short order... in fact, the finished result actually looks better than what we originally had. An estimate was provided in advance, and the price was reasonable given the weekend timing. While I cannot say either way on quality or price, The Katy Plumbing company refused to give a quote on a standard Preventative Maintenance Service. Obviously if the unit in question is damaged or needs repair that can be discussed, however not having a standard fee for a basic call an apprentice can do is crazy. Bought a new house, there are shower jet (capped off) and shower head. Asked Katy plumbing crew if he can help me figure out why it's leaking , he jumped right into the job. He broke both knob set screws for my showers. Hammered in the first set screw because he didn't use the right screwdriver drill. He broke the second screw head and have the screw sharp thread sticking out and I had to buy screw protector to prevent it from cutting my hand everytime I use the shower. Turns out there is no leak, just needed to push the other knob in further. He replaced the valve unnecessarily to justify charging for the job. He just reuse the screws that it came with. Broke them both. And charge me 250 for figuring out how the shower works. [Update] supervisor called and said he offered to make it up to me. I asked for a refund option. He replied politely if he gives refund he can no longer service the home. He said he already invested in valve (probably a few bucks from Amazon), if refunded, he has to wash his hand and no this service address for future work. read more

Worst decision we ever made was to choose this establishment. They supposedly cleared the clog and scheduled us to replace a pipe outside but informed us we could use the water in the meantime. Took a shower and the water backed sewer into 3 rooms causing thousands in damage and emergency cleanup. Manager was unapologetic and sided with the repair tech. They had also paired us with the emergency cleaners who charged us twice for both occurrences. The second time would never have happened had we not been told to use the water. They also left the pipe in our front yard too high off the ground and it looks substandard and not in compliance with our HOA. Spoke to another plumbing company and they stated we were overcharged for the work done. I'll also be filing a complaint with the BBB about this company. Take heed, we learned a hard lesson. I just want to expose this group for what they are, an over priced rip off. Do NOT use these guys! They are easily 50% higher than anyone else. The exact same water heater they installed at my house can be purchased at multiple plumbing supplies for an average of $903 (Rheem, 50 gal tall 40MMBTU). Then the guy tacks on an attic installation (additional $221) which I guess is correct in the sense it's an attic space, but it's a closet upstairs so no ladders etc. and full access all around the dang thing. They didn't vacuum up the little bit of mess and gave me all of this for the bargain price of $2,200. Unfortunately for me, I was trapped into a now or never situation and didn't have time to get a second or third price. The quote also included a new catch pan, but he just reused the old one. I give two stars, as I have used them before and they have done good work on small issues. This time I had sewer water coming from under my house leaking out onto my driveway and into the street. Not a massive amount, but it was happening. I called and said I need a camera line test to find out where the leak was. I would have paid for it, no problem. He came out and said the camera test will not do any good. We just have to start tunneling and repairing until the problem is fixed. Starting Price was $10k and could go up to $20k. I was not convinced. I got someone out two weeks later, main issue was sewer line was clogged and bam, no more water leaking from under the house. Another note, I bought the house two months ago and did not know where the sewer cleanout was. The guy did not even help me try to find it. The next company that came out, helped me find that there was not one since it was an old house, sent out their crew a week later to dig where the sewer line was, opened it up, unclogged it, put on a new sewer line cleanout, and they have gained a new customer for life. The company made videos of the sewer line and did not find any large leaks. Yes, there may be small ones, but everything is running from the house to the sewer line, since the line is unclogged. Main issue resolved and no more water leaking onto the driveway and into the street. The neighbors and my wife are now happy campers :). read more

We came home to water coming through our ceiling and since we had used Katy Plumbing before they were our first call. They came out the same day and determined the water leak was not plumbing related and after having a roof inspection we determined that the issue was our AC unit leaking in the attic. We had hired a recommended HVAC company to make the needed repairs to our 10yo AC unit. Within a couple days of being told everything was repaired, more water was coming through the same whole in our ceiling again and after three trips and no resolution the owner of the HVAC company would not back his company's work. We love our home and lost money and complete trust in the HVAC company. We decided to call Katy Plumbing to get a completely different HVAC reference and they sent two plumbers, one of which was also HVAC certified. They immediately identified the mistakes and corrected them. They came out on two different days to make the repairs as it took two men to redo the work in lifting and balancing the HC unit. The folks at Katy Plumbing are honest and respectful. They take the time to explain to the homeowner. We had purchased a service contract and they checked all the plumbing lines in the house for any blockage while fixing the AC. Katy Plumbing restored our faith in honest capable contractors and going forward they will handle all our plumbing and HVAC needs! read more

Katy Plumbing wanted $550 just for labor, not including the toilet. Plus they couldn't even tell me what was wrong. Could be the toilet, but maybe not. I was told they could end up charging me another $490 to remove a clog and another $700+ if the flange needed to be replaced. I don't ever write bad reviews but I feel this company tried to take advantage of a customer they thought did not understand skilled labor. read more

Had another issue so we just wanted a quote which they said was free. I was willing to pay for it but they said if you're in the katy area it is free. The quote was high so we wanted to get a few. The guy was super rude saying he should charge up for his time. He quoted us almost $2000 and we got it done for $125 somewhere else. I just was so disappointed this time. I also thought that the labor fee was excessive. Had I known I would have tried to find a company that would collect the labor fee from Rheem instead of me. I made the appointment on a Monday by phone for Wednesday, I was told the plumber would show up between 10am and 1pm.  1 pm comes and I've heard nothing from Katy Plumbing so I call to find out what is the issue.  Apparently they've lost my appointment along with all of my information so they have to take it all down again.  Fortunately, a plumber is finishing a job and can be at my home shortly.  Approximately 1:55, a plumber arrives, I show him what I need to have done and he goes to the truck to work up an estimate.  Meanwhile, my neighbor from across the street runs over to tell me about how this company ripped him off to the tune of $7k recently and he tells me to beware.  I call my husband with the recent development and we decide on reasonable fees for these services.  The estimate comes in, $289 for the ice maker (this is a stand alone model) to connect the drain to the existing drain under my sink, $350 to seat the toilet, and $495 for the washer faucet.  I decline everything but the icemaker because for those prices, we can do it ourselves and I REALLY wanted my ice maker asap.  About 10 minutes into the process, the plumber calls me down and explains that he needs a longer pipe under the sink to make the connection plus a shorter strainer basket in the sink to fit it.  That will be an extra $200.  I told him that's fine, just get me my ice maker working today.  He hooks it all up, I use the coupon on their website, and pay $464 to connect an ice maker, sounds crazy I know but I really like ice.  I ask "so is it working now?" and the plumber says he didn't know because he didn't test it.  So I hit the "on" button and I hear the water flow.  I realize it's gonna take at least 45 min to get some ice and he leaves.  2 hours later, I see water coming out from under the icemaker.  I look around to see if I can tell where it's coming from, is it the machine, or is it the plumbing job?  I cannot tell so I turn it off and ask my husband to take a look when he arrives home from work.  Did I mention this was Valentines Day and he was taking me out to dinner?  We come home from dinner and he pulls the ice maker out from under the cabinet to inspect where all this water is coming from, it's all over the floor, the drywall and the cabinet.  What he discovered is that Katy Plumbing took the vent hose and connected it to the drain hose and put this Frankenstein contraption on the vent port only of the ice maker, not the drain.  So water that drains out of the ice maker just goes all over inside the cabinet.  I called Katy Plumbing that night and they offer to send me an on call tech to fix it but by then, my husband has figured out how to properly connect it so we didn't need them.  The next day, he calls Forest Johnson at Katy Plumbing about the problem we experienced.  Forest has to investigate, well after a day of investigation, my husband calls him back and they agreed to refund the ice maker connection part of the bill for $289.  So I ended up paying $175 for the new strainer basket and drain pipe under the sink.  I really feel like all of these Angie's List recommendations let me down.  Now, not only my neighbor had a horrible experience with Katy Plumbing, I did too.  3 days later, I still do not have my refund.
