In my humble opinion. Curb appeal: I kinda like taking pictures of everything and there isn't a lot to look at here. Ambiance: Inside is fun. Plenty of seating including many booths. Cleanliness: Because it was 4pm and in between shifts, I imagine there wasn't anyone available to bus tables or check restrooms. Staffing: The service staff on hand was expected to do everything from serve to bus to bartend to make tortillas. One server appeared to let this annoy them. Carlos: + Although the pace of the meal was determined by the kitchen as well as the number of tables he was working, he stayed extremely pleasant. Maintaining a positive attitude. I visited Jalapeño Tree with 4 other friends and we all enjoyed our meals. This place is great! The food is so good. I haven't had better Mexican food in Longview honestly. The drinks are reasonably priced and I love the atmosphere here. There's plenty of cool decorations around the place and it's very clean and a cool crowd. read more

I live out of area, but each time I visit family in Longview, we always end up here for dinner one night. The service is usually fast and polite. We have had a couple of issues. One time the chips were WAY too greasy to eat. Another, they brought a kid's sized quesadilla instead of an adult sized. Other than that, we have always had a good experience. Food is good and hot, restaurant is very clean and big enough for large groups without being too loud inside. We will be back! read more

The ambiance is great and service is great! Our server was very friendly. However my beef was cold and went they send it back to make sure it was cooked they brought it back hard and dry. At that point I gave up. I feel that the food could be a hit or missed over all it was not bad but I think they do need to pay attention to detail when it comes to the food going back and then sending it back in that condition. read more

Had dinner from here today for the first time and it was really good! Chips reminded me of Chili's and the salsa was amazing! Fresh quac was on point! Wednesday night, not crowded at all. No surprise. Greeted immediately upon walking inside. Service was just as quick. Ordered a dish called the Elvis Presley. This has beef fajita meet, no tortillas, but I didn't ask for them either. Taco, choice of two sides. My sides were rice and a puffy taco. OK, I lived in San Antonio and San Marcos for several years, what Longview calls a puffy taco is different than South Central Texas. This version was a queso covered shell-NO meat! Overall the food was good and very fresh. Served very quickly and the staff checked in on a regular basis. Beerita was good too. Got to choose my beer and it was a good sized portion. I had the queso shrimp. I ordered the shrimp fried and I changed out the beans for tortilla soup. My meal was just OK...I have had better from them. The shrimp was bland but cooked just right. The taco was also bland even after adding salt and pepper it was still tasteless. My soup was super cheesy. I had to scoop out as much cheese as I could just to consume it. I went to this place back in the end of March but I forgot to put this review in. The food is delicious here, they have some different sauces for your chips. I love the green sauce like a jalapeno guacamole sauce. I could have taken a bath in that stuff lol. We had some chicken nachos which was a huge serving. I wish this place was located in Arizona was my only sadness. The wait staff was very kind and the service was fantastic. These places are huge and have plenty of room for large groups! This place is a regular for my family- it's has been our go to for Tex-Mex for years. The food is always good, fresh and flavorful. We have ordered many dishes over time so I won't get into detailing each one, just know there's a reason we keep coming back! The thing I crave the most from Jap Tree is their GREEN SAUCE!! It is perhaps one of the best things I've ever tasted and will ever taste. When I'm away from ETX, I think about that sauce a lot, seriously... a lot. So, the first time I came here, Cedes was an awesome server. Five stars given for her. The food was decent and the chips and salsa were good. Fast forward to today...WTF? No one greeted me as I stood there waiting for the 3 servers to finish chatting. Then when I was finally acknowledged, the guy that seated us seemed as though he DID NOT WANT TO BE BOTHERED. Once he seated us, I noticed how he just threw my sons kid menu on the table in his direction. Mind you, NO ONE HAS SPOKEN TO US. Next the guy who brought the chips and salsa HAD NOTHING TO SAY either. What the hell is going on in here? Finally after all the useless servers standing around, I'm assuming she was one of the managers came over and asked if they had taken my drink order. She took my order and apologized. The waitress then ran right up to me right after asking the same thing and apologizing. I guess my face said a thousand words because Brent came to the rescue. He came over and asked if my order had been taken. He then told me that the waitress would be right over. She NEVER came. I guess Brent noticed and jumped right in and took my order. Wait, the kicker to this....HE WAS SMILING EVERY TIME HE CAME TO THE TABLE. He checked back in with me and even gave me the wifi password. My point here is this CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE BEST SERVICE. Service here was great; seated immediately, friendly staff, patient and smiling waiters. Drinks were refreshed multiple times, and even apologized for the wait on the food (even though the food wasn't taking that long at all). The food itself was excellent for a chain restaurant. The chips they serve come with salsa as well as a spicy avocado/sourcream sauce, which is excellent. I ordered the Bo Diddly, which is catfish & shrimp with a tequila cream sauce, and I was very impressed with the catfish--it was nice and crisp on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, and the sauce was flavorful. Their margaritas are decent, too. Would definitely like to try more of their menu soon! read more

This was our first visit and we found a go-to again destination. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. I chose a Ixtapa chicken breast and the wife chose to have a Chimichanga. The meals were very good and were plentiful at a moderate cost. We have eaten many Sopapillas but these were unique in that they large, shaped like a jalapeño and were served with cinnamon butter as well as the usual honey. Our waitress was Josephine, she was outstanding in that she took very good care of us without hovering over us. The parking lot is large, well laid out. The address is easy to find and a turning lane is available if you are approaching with it on your left. We will definitely be returning. read more

This is a average Texmex restaurant. I had the brisket tacos and they lacked flavor luckily I ordered a spicier habanero salsa that save the tacos. The charro beans taste a little old like they were from two days ago. Usually the consistency of the charro beans is more like a soup but this ones where too tick and tasted a little burnt. I come here every Sunday with my hubby, this is my favorite place to come eat. I am in love with their green sauce and could eat it every day! My roller derby team had our league meeting here . There was 15 of us and we used their banquet room. Everything was great we were sat immediately and everything was already set up for us. Our server was quick and kind. ATTENTION FOOD ALLERGY SUFFERERS I wish I could give this place a zero. The problem is something inherent in the way they fix and season their food. I told the waitress I could not eat tomatoes or bell peppers. I also cannot eat spicy things because I am a super taster. I taste things more acutely than a lot of people do. I wanted to get a simple enchilada plate, but she told me that everything had tomatoes in it and they couldn't change it. Even sour cream enchiladas had tomatoes in them. That tells me that they cannot make substitutions or change an order. They mass produce their food, and assume that EVERYBODY can eat tomatoes or spicy stuff. The waitress did talk to the cook but she still seemed to be baffled. I went here for a group meeting in the banquet room. The waitress asked me if I wanted a hamburger. I got a chicken fried steak and it was not very good. I asked them if they had broccoli because I wanted a green veggie. They didn't, so all I got was starch on the plate--a dinner roll with bad Parkay margarine in a squeeze bottle. No such thing as real butter here. Or even good oleomargarine. These people have no concept of what people with food allergies have to deal with when they eat out. I grew up eating at the original Monterey House in Pasadena, Texas. It was bland Tex-Mex and I loved it. There is a very disturbing trend nowadays to put peppers and spices in Mexican food. I have had people before tell me, "Oh it's not spicy." It is indeed spicy and I have to run and get a glass of cold water to try to get the burning sensation out of my mouth. I have also had problems at Italian restaurants where I ordered chicken alfredo. I still burped a lot and was uncomfortable because of cross contamination in the kitchen. That is not acceptable to me either. DEAR MANAGERS: The only way I would be able to eat your Tex-Mex is if you CHANGE your procedures so that you can customize an order according to what your customer wants. If you do not change your procedures, there is no way that I could ever eat your Tex-Mex. I was not impressed with the Chicken Fried Steak. I am going to assume that you have never thought about people with food allergies. Tomato allergy is not that uncommon. You could also have ground up hard boiled eggs to put on salads, and croutons. Walking in, it seemed like this was going to be a great place to dine at. The hostess wasnt the friendliest to start out with, and then after ordering our food for myself, my fiance and our children, we waited almost 30 minutes to get our food at our table, once we did my order was wrong. The food wasnt bad. Their salsa was great though. The manager (I believe) took my order off our ticket since it was messed up and we did not have time to send it back and wait, since we had our (young) kids dining with us. If they improved their customer service this could be a really great place. But after getting our food no one came to check on us again until we were needing our ticket to leave. This place was one of my favorite spots to eat at after a long day of work, but unfortunately I can not eat from here anymore. I ordered a typical meal of a burrito and rice and beans on the side. The meal was good but the aftermath was horrible. Frankly, this place has given me food poisoning. I have been throwing up rice and I'm not sure if it is a new cook or a bad batch of rice. I ordered a sampler plate, which had a tamale with one each of chicken, beef, and cheese enchiladas served with rice, beans, and guacamole. It was all swimming in the same chili sauce, which was just OK. It completely overruled any and all other flavors. The rice was dry and kind of bland. The beans were just so-so canned refried beans. Their salsa was very, very good. I probably should have just stuck with that and maybe a couple tacos. Maybe my experience would have been better. The service was good, so no complaints there. So my husband and I went to have dinner we came in and stood for a while the hostess finally came and said she would get some one to clean the table for us.....after about 6 minutes he finally came and cleaned a table and we were seated. Immediately we were given chips and salsa no water. We waited a total of 15 mins and no one even came to our table so we left and went to Denny's where their is service. I've loved Jalapeno Tree for many, many years. I may live in Missouri now, but this is still my absolute favorite Mexican food restaurant, and whenever I visit family, I make it a point to stop here. The red & green sauces are... oh, man, ridiculously delicious. I love them. I want bottles of them to take home with me. I used to order pints of them to keep in the fridge at home. Their chips are usually fresh and warm. They have the best flour tortillas I've ever had. I almost always order cheese enchiladas with queso on top. They are so rich but so good. My husband, mother, and other family/friends say that you absolutely have to try the fajitas. The garlic butter sauce they come with is divine. Why isn't it 5 stars then? Honestly, I've had some issues at this location. Sometimes the service is off, or the food comes out wrong. Nothing big enough to ruin my love for Jalapeno Tree, but often enough that it merits a 1 star deduction. Still! I highly recommend this place. read more

This was the worst $30 I have ever spent. Made a reservation for 9 and a child also beside us was a older group of 12. Our service was awful we waited at least 10 minutes for just chips and salsa. So we order some drinks and food. Two of our drinks didn't come out till our food did and the third didn't till we were half way through with our food. Okay then one of our group stressed that her food could not have any onions on it or she would get extremely sick. Well her food came out with onions and she spent the rest of our time there in the restroom. I also had to send my food back. Keep in mind the older group is getting great service.
