Don Benito's is just a nice little place to grab a nice inexpensive ( by today's standards) Mexican meal. Servers are friendly, place is clean, chips are good, salsa is ok- could use more garlic and cilantro. But it's edible and not tomato sauce. I line their fajitas, chicken enchiladas, hubby like their quesadillas, burritos and nachos. I do really like the decor. It's just like popping into a cantina, south of the border. We go often and hope it continues to stay friendly and the foods stay tasty. read more

Don Benito's is everything a Mexican restaurant should be. The atmosphere is casual, the chips are plentiful, the service is prompt and pleasant, and the food is delicious! The green sauce served with the chips is my favorite - so tasty! I got the lunch fajita quesadilla, and that was more than enough food. The fajita meat in the quesadilla was well seasoned and tender. I got the cilantro lime rice with it. That's a nice option and I'd eat it again. We'll come back to Don Benito's when we're in the area! read more

Food was HORRIBLE! How can they mess up fajitas. Beef had a funny smell and taste, like it was old. Chicken was over cooked. Tortillas were cold. I asked if i could get them warmer. Our waitress said she would take care of it. Because they only warm them if customer asked. Salsas were the same not fresh. Now the chips were great, warm just how I like them. Visited from out of town on a Sunday evening. The place is clean and there was plenty of seating. We were seated quickly. The menu has a lot of options, service was pleasant and the food delivered very quickly. The chimichanga was on the small side but was crisp and the shredded chicken option was tasty. Perhaps a little too salty, but flavorful. I will be visiting Longview regularly and this first visit was pleasant enough that I will come back and try a few more menu items. read more

Wow! First I'll preface this review with that I normally do NOT like refried beans no matter at what restaurant we have eaten, but the beans here were soooo good! Even the charro beans were fantastic. My husband and I came here for a late lunch. We ordered the pork enchiladas with queso (refried beans and rice on the side) and the chimichanga with queso (charro beans and rice on the side). As we were switching the side order of beans, I scraped my refried beans onto his plate then licked my fork clean and wowzi!!! Those were the best tasting beans I've ever tasted! I wanted them back! But my hubby already tasted them and he said, "No way! These are really good!" My husband is usually pretty sedate and low keyed about EVERYTHING. So for him to even make that comment speaks volumes of how good the beans were. I was about to argue with him but then I tasted my charro beans and "Holy Guacamole, Batman! These were better than the refried beans!" Also the frozen strawberry margaritas were also the bomb.com (do we still say that today?) My husband usually doesn't drink but he got a taste of my margarita and he thought it was so good, he ordered one for himself! It's about average for a basic Mexican restaurant. I say that being a Mexican food snob, being from Houston, and their Mexican restaurant culture is dog eat dog out there. Admittedly enough, I got the most obvious order you can get, which was the ground beef enchiladas, and a guacamole "salad" on the side and a DP.. $25 for one person seems pricey, especially when the guacamole was not made to order. I've worked in a Mexican restaurant. I can tell the difference between guacamole that was made to order and guacamole that was made daily, and just stuck in the fridge until needed. This was the latter. For $7.89 for a small, that's overpriced. The enchiladas were okay. They did put some diced white onion on top of the enchiladas, which I feel is a necessary condiment. One thing I won't stand for, was that the refried beans were lukewarm. I understand that it was Sunday, but in the middle of lunch hour, that shouldn't happen. All in all, it has good potential, but it needs work. I'll have to make my rounds out at Tele's, Papacitas and Posados before I try this one again. read more

If you haven't been GO! Surprisingly this place hasn't received many reviews I don't know why, but the reviews are favorable. We decided to try it out and we did not regret it! Chips and salsa were brought to the table, and everyone got their own to dip and double dip if you wanted to. The avocado salsa has just a little kick to it, the red salsa did not for me, but my FIL said it was too spicy for him. He does not like spice. Drinks were ordered and we received them pretty quickly. Our orders were taken and within minutes some of the sides that went with our dishes came out. I ordered to enchiladas with a crispy taco and rice. The crispy taco came out on a plate on its own. Which I kind of appreciated because I did not get a soggy taco. Hubby's order came with a tostada and taco and they also came out right away. We finished our side and within minutes the rest of our food was on the table. My FIL had a chimichanga and his first bite he said it was way too spicy. The server offered to get some sour cream sauce on it to cool it down a bit. She took the plate back and when she brought it back it had the sour cream sauce on it and it looked great! Granddaughter had the steak quesadilla and I took a bite. It also was very good. The steak was not fatty and it tasted like it was just off the grill. The enchiladas weren't exceptional but I had no complaints. They came with a double order of rice it that also was ok. We decided to go all the way and ordered dessert which was a chimicheesecake with a side of ice cream. Very, very good! FIL paid the bill and with a quick glance it was a little expensive, but there were 3 margaritas ordered and desserts. My only complaint would be there is no flan on their list of desserts, but this is not the first time I have been to a Mexican restaurant where they don't have flan and I did not see a homemade tortilla station. All in all, the place gets a good review, and we will be back! read more

We just had a great experience at Don Benito's in Longview Texas. My family and I travel from Dallas to our beachfront condo in Destin Florida every year. This year, we hadn't even made it out of Texas, when everyone was hungry and wanted to stop and eat. We decided to stop over in Longview and found Don Benito's not far off of Hwy 80. I typically don't like chain restaurants but was very pleasantly surprised when we went in. We were greeted right away by the friendliest hosts/waiters as we walked in. We are a large family and typically get a less than happy greeting due to the size of our party. These people seemed genuinely happy that we were there. The food was great, The menu has something for everyone, even for the pickiest eater. The wait staff was amazing. We never had an empty glass and the table stayed clean and picked up at all times. Our food was delivered very quickly and piping hot. Typically in a group our size, there will be a mix up on orders or cold entrees. Not at Don Benito's in Longview. They had everything down to a science. We left there very full and extremely impressed by the whole experience. We look forward to stopping at Don Benito's in Longview on our next trip to Florida. When I went and ate at this restaurant, the manager was cheerful until he heard that I paid for the meal. That's when he got angry. He gave me a strong grimace and started breathing heavy. We had given a $20 tip altogether which was about half the price of our meal! I had trouble understanding the reason for his anger. The food was good and they allowed my father to get a cup of coffee to replace his topochino when he realized it was mineral water at no extra cost. I am shocked no one has rated this restaurant yet. It is amazing!!! Adios Papacitas, Posados, and On The Boarder!!! This place is fantastic. The spinach enchiladas were so good and soft with sour cream sauce on top. The rice and refried beans were savory and perfectly seasoned. Hubby had beef fajita enchiladas. He loved them beyond belief and was totally satisfied with the lunch portion, which was just enough for us to have a nice meal and not feel stuffed. Their chips are fresh with awesome salsa (not too spicy) and green sauce, which was also very delicious. We did have dessert- sopapilas. Where to begin- they were so light and tender, super easy to cut with a fork and not thick where they have to be manhandled to eat. We will for sure be back. If you settle for the other Mexican restaurants in the Longview area, you need to try this place. It won't disappoint. read more
