Outside the front desk where you check in

Depending on your room, it would be rad or bad. Our group had 3 rooms: one had a broken hair drier, one had a broken shower knob, and the last was perfect. The nonsmoking rooms smell fine, but right outside your door is a bench with an ashtray where your neighbors are smoking. The are felt fun, well lit, and safe. The breakfast ran out of coffee early on, but had enough other goodies. The driveway is tucked away off the road.

We have stayed here twice over the last year. The cottages are large, private and clean. Full kitchen, family room and bedroom. The owners are kind and helpful. He even gave us a bottle of wine for Valentine's Day! The location is perfect for exploring the gold country. We will be staying here again.

    Are words really necessary? Disgusting!!

What a waste of money. I'm disgusted! How do they get away with charging $115 for a room with a bathroom covered in mold! And the guy at the front desk when I checked in was the rudest most unprofessional person. I do not recommend staying here. Zero stars!

Horrible pace to stay. The shower had mold in it and the walls were dirty and had snot on them. The beds are rock hard.

    Dryer blood everywhere

I can't even give them a star. The guy that runs the place is super rude. My girlfriend and I stay there last night. We checked putting our stuff in the room then went to eat dinner. When returned we both got in our pj's. I went to use the restroom and then my girlfriend uses it after and notices we both stepped barefooted on dry blood. I called the front desk, dude started giving me attitude, wouldn't come check our room. I took pictures he wouldn't look at any of my people calling me names, told he was calling the cops. I told him to go ahead so I could document this. He threw my money back at me as he continued to call me name. Going to make a doctor's appointment Monday hope I don't get any blood bourne diseases. Forgot to add my girlfriend as asthma and stepping in that blood gave her a panic attack. She had trouble breathing all night almost have to take her to the er. Pretty much ruined the rest of our trip.

Room looks clean. Has a small fridge and microwave. If you're looking for a place to sleep it's not bad just hopefully you didn't encounter noisy neighbors. Walls are thin & the people next door was really annoying! They were up all night with the music and TV on I could complain but I didn't. I played my own music and eventually fell asleep. Customer Service I have no complaints. Other than the annoying party animal next door the place is ok.

National Hotel Jackson by Hilton, Jackson, CA…read more I'm staying here tonight in Jackson, California, at the National Hotel. It's an older motel-style property with a lot of history, and it shows in a charming, mixed-modern way. Historic charm + updated touches:** The hotel has kept its vintage character while updating as much as possible. You can really feel the history in the design, artifacts, and mirrored features spread throughout the building. The carpets are clean, I've walked on them with white socks and nothing is coming up or looking worn. Just one small smudge spotted, which isn't a big deal for me. Wi-Fi is Fast and reliable, which is great for staying connected for work. The front desk staff is amazing. Tamara, in particular, was kind, patient, and helped me check in my room smoothly. It's all-around excellent service. There are interesting artifacts and standout mirror features that add to the character of the place. Parking is across the street and you have to cross a small bridge. The parking is covered, which is nice, but the walk with luggage can be a pain for a solo traveler. I hoped for a larger bath to soak in, but the tub was quite small--barely fit. If soaking is important to you, this might be a disappointment. Some of the drawers are a bit beat up and hard to operate; they don't always slide smoothly back into place. Breakfast starts at 6:00 AM, which is rough if you need to be at work early (like me at 5 AM). A later start or grab-and-go option would be nicer for early-risers. Overall, I'd rate this place a solid 4 stars for the staff and the overall feel. It's a thoughtfully kept historic hotel that leans into its roots while still offering practical amenities like fast Wi‑Fi and clean rooms. If you're in Jackson for business or a short stay and can roll with the older-motel layout, you'll likely enjoy it. Tips for future guests It's old and creaky - light sleepers forget it. If you're solo and luggage-heavy, check in first and then grab a trolley. If soaking is important, you might want to set expectations for a standard tub rather than a soaking tub. If breakfast timing is critical for you, arrange a backup plan. Would I stay here again? Yes, for the staff, charm, and value. If you're drawn to historic hotels with character and solid service, this is a good pick in Jackson.

Reception was great and the ladies who work there were really friendly. We were all checked in without any issues. Our room was large with a king bed and a small electric fireplace. Not much of a view in room 203 as it sits under the stairs and faces the alley. We can hear people walking up and down the stairs and talking in the room across the hall so the walls are thin. Everything was clean and the bathroom was spacious. Water pressure was great and the bed was comfortable. The AC works like a charm in our room. Supposedly the hotel has a few haunted rooms. There was a written history on the sightings and also a book with notes from hotel guests on the subject. Pretty interesting!

To which he said, "we are historical" (right, from the 1980's perhaps, not the 1880's. I am thinking that some mention should be made of this deficit in the listing on Hotels.com. No offer to look for a downstairs room, just, that was it. Fortunately my mobility issues are not critical (yet), but my impression of this place, where I had stayed twice before, became more so. The place was reasonably quiet, and if you set aside the fact that all upstairs and downstairs doors to the halls were apparently open all the time (no security locking) and the guy blowing copious amounts of dope, which wafted down the halls from the staircase landing, everything was just peachy. The room was clean and well appointed though. The Denny's next door had gone out of business.

Upon going to my room, it was discovered someone's hair was all over the bathroom area floor. I wiped up what I could with the anti-bacterial wipes. The bathroom floor had dirt on it. The shower curtain when wet did not stay closed.... Both sides moved down to the center of the shower bar. Either the shower rod was installed poorly or it was damaged. The shower fixture was installed poorly and was sagging sideways. The bathroom door appeared to be an exterior door... The floor in the main room had some leftover stuff on the floor.... The mattresses were tired and saggy. The door to the room was dirty; I wiped it down with an anti-bacterial wipe. No cover on the door peep hole, so I stuffed wet tissue in the hole. The room was dark. One lone light bulb in the corner of the room.... The night stand light was constantly flickering.... There was a small bug on one of my pillows.... I noticed there was no scent from cleaning products. The last Best Western I stayed at, I smelled bleach. Not a great scent, but a scent someone would know where cleaning took place. The sheets and towels did not smell clean; they smelled with leftover odors. A couple of good things- the water pressure which was nice, and Brenda's professionalism and welcoming spirit. I could not check-out fast enough to get away from the dirty tired room. I do not recommend this Best Western. PS On a side note, some of the staying guests were smoking outside the areas where we would walk to get to our rooms, meaning the area between each building (A to B). Not enjoying the second hand smoke....

Each room at the inn (14 rooms total) are different. The website shows pictures of each room so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I knew I did not want a swinging bed so we went with John's room. They tell you to park on the street and come to the front office to check in and then they show you where to park. On a Friday afternoon the street is pretty full and the spaces are very tight, but we did find a space. When you get to the house, there is no office or any place to go. You press the ring camera and someone walks from behind the house out to greet you. The gentleman walks you to your room and the key (on a large keychain) is hanging in the door. He walks you in and tells you a little bit about the room. In our case he showed us how to use the fire, the mini-split (Heating / HVAC) and where to park. The parking lot is behind the Inn and it is very small. It does not have 14 spaces, and if it is full you have to try and find parking in the alley. Because of this we decided not to move as we were able to park in the lot and we were scared to lose parking. When we took ourbags to the room, I realized that there is very little counter or storage space, not only in the room but in the bathroom as well. In the bathroom you have very little space to put your items. The "closet" that has no door is also very small. The head of the bed is about 4 feet from the toilet and you are looking right at it. The bathroom is pretty old and very pink. The towels are not very soft but the water did get hot pretty quickly. The bed itself is very uncomfortable. The mattress is very hard and every time one of you moves you both feel it. We did not sleep well either night. In this room, there was a mini keurig coffee machine and they provided coffee and creamers. There is also a small mini fridge. There are 2 chairs in front of the fireplace and a chair and small couch at the end of the bed. There are also a lot of books. With all of these things in the room, there is very little walking space and from the other side of the bed to get to the bathroom (especially in the dark) is like an obstacle course to not stub your toes or knees. The property is very quiet and there is an ice machine outside by the front lawn. However there is no breakfast or food available at the Inn. I really was hoping to have a great time, but by Saturday afternoon we were ready to leave. I just did not want to be there anymore. My husband convinced me to stay as we already had dinner reservations for that night, so we did. When you leave, you place the key outisde in the door handle and leave the property.

While the hotel is historic they have updated with some modern flair here and there without losing the charm of the town. The room was cozy with a couch that pulls out to a bed and of course the king size bed for additional guests. Bathroom a was a little small with a shower but was clean and good for just the two of us. The bed was comfortable and bedding was warm and cozy. We were worried as it was probably one of the first cooler nights with fall/winter but it was perfect. Check in is at 3 pm and was super simple. They have a pre check in process that you can do to make check in faster when you arrive. There is a small parking lot in the back of the hotel that is first come first served but we had no problem getting a spot. We made dinner reservations at the hotel restaurant when we completed the pre check in. We had drinks and snacks at the lobby bar a few hours before dinner and it was great! The Pig Fig N Goat was delicious! It is a warm Bavarian pretzel served with fig jam, honey, prosciutto, goat cheese, pecans and beer cheese. We also had a few cocktails, wine and beer that were tasty. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about the spirits they had. There are several outside spaces to relax or have a bite with your group, and each room comes with its own front patio area with a private bench. There is also a volleyball net, horseshoe pit, grill, spit and plenty of lawn to enjoy other activities. There is also a creek at the back of the complex, which unfortunately dries up this time of year but I can imagine is very relaxing when flowing. Our room came with a queen bed, table and 2 chairs, refrigerator, air conditioning, cable tv, private shower and bathroom, pantry, and plenty of drawers and shelves. The motel is clearly on the older side and has plenty of character and charm, but it also is a bit worn. As it was very clean, I wasn't bothered by the "antique" look. There was one small issue. Bugs. As it was about 100 degrees outside, there were several small bugs sneaking in the air conditioner. Again, we weren't really bothered by this as the bugs didn't bother us and we woke up the next day bite free. It must be noted that the owners of the Motel (which should change the sign on the side of the road to "Inn") were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had a small issue with our dog and the curtains, and they were more than understanding and appreciated the fact we alerted them and offered to pay for the damage. I would stay at this location again in a heartbeat. It was a wonderful experience. 4.5/5
