I finally got to go here this year during my New Hampshire vacation and it did not disappoint! I got the signature Cubano (well all of the sandwiches are signatures) and it hit the spot. May be the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. Looks and tastes just how I feel the sandwich in the movie "Chef" tastes. My buddy got the Italian and raved about it. In-and-Out, order and get your orders and goodies and once the order is ready...you go and eat it. There is some wooden picnic tables outside maybe like three or four? I recommend the Cuban! I was told Cuban is the staple and it definitely is delicious and must have. The Cuban is Savory; but there this sweetness to it that make it so hard to stop eating ‍. I also had the Italian Panino, it was more rich is the spices for the meats and so many delicious sauce, cheese, to vegetables inside. I had these sandwiches at a nearby winery called Alpine Garden. Brought ISLAND CHEFS panini/sandwiches with me and enjoyed some wine with it. What a delightful sandwich stop on route 302 in Glen NH! Caryn was absolutely welcoming. My wife ordered a turkey Ruben and I had a Cuban Ruben. I could simply say they were delicious which would be extremely accurate. It would be even better to explain that each Cuban was made with the perfect mix of meet, cheese, lettuce and "spread" dependent on the Cuban. Additionally they were perfectly toasted with the ingredients warmed but not to the point you had to worry about burning your mouth. If you have the time to stop by do so. If you don't have the time, find the time! And if you're stopping in warmer weather then there is a nice picnic area to enjoy your lunch. read more

What an interesting spot! The owner is originally from Cuba, hence the name and the many Cuban-inspired flavors. They only take cash, not credit, so keep that in mind. My friend got the Cuban, which was smaller than expected but good. My chicken salad was ok, could have done without the carrots and tomatoes but the bread was delicious. Been here many times. Today will be our last. (Covid or no Covid) First we didn't see the cash only sign, ordered food then saw it was cash only. The auntie argued that she told us but if she did it was a mumble between the mask and barrier at the window. We had a nice person allow us to write a check to him for cash, a complete stranger. Bonus we were starving‼ We had to get confirmation on our food allergies which went back and forth a few times from auntie to owner. The wait is always a wait so we figured that. Now we look for a trash can. Nope, here's a plastic trash bag take your trash with you. Then I listened about why no trash can and cc machine for five minutes. All being blamed on Covid. This is the epitome of bad business ethics. The owner even had the gaul to tell me SHE'S paying for my mike awards on my cc. Very presumptuous of her. Been to Island Chef many times and they have been good. Last 2 times really underwhelming. Chicken salad wrap was dripping wet with mayo sauce. Did not finish it. Turkey wrap was not great either. Ordered 2 hot dogs for the kids, one with ketchup and mustard, one with just ketchup(made this clear several times!). Got one with ketchup and mustard and one with mustard only. Our little angel would not touch it because it had mustard, YUCK! It was an ordeal to get a new one but they finally did make a new one. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Staff extremely rude when asking about food allergens. Asked if due to gluten allergy we could just get no bread or wrap and was told they could not do that. I'm kind of in love with this place. Came here for the second time today after trying it this weekend and we had to bring my parents because they'd been driving past for 2 years and had always been under the impression that it was mostly a kitchen supply store- there are kitchen supplies, sure, but there is soo much more! The Island Chef offers a pretty extensive menu of sandwiches (wraps, paninis and regular sandwiches), salads, and the famous Cuban. Thank you fellow Yelpers for raving about the Cuban because I tried it at your recommendation and it was delicious (had it regular last time, added banana peppers this time for extra kick). Can't say enough good things about it, so I added a picture to help me out. Apart from the fresh ingredients, the Cuban bread is out of this world so even if you get something else I'd ask for it on Cuban bread haha This is one of the places were going to have to make a regular stop when we come to visit my parents for sure. Best hidden gem in the Bartlett/ North Conway area. I have been taking trips to this area for years, but sadly did not come across this amazing place until this year. I wish she had more advertisement I think only mostly locals know about it. The owner works there every day and through talking to her realized she used to be a chef. This place has AMAZING paninis, please try the cuban. Also the roasted butternut squash soup is to die for, along with the roasted tomato pepper soup. All of her sandwitches and everything else she makes is home made and amazing. Also very healthy! She has whole wheat breads and all healthy and natural ingredients.
