Me and my family usually go here every summer and we come to the same problem. The lady or the cashier is always very rude, especially to teenage boys and younger. She refuses to sell products to my brother because he is a teenager which she assumes is a bad kid and doesn't deserve to get the products unless he pays cash which is ridiculous because the people in front of us paid card. We stopped here on the way back from a wedding, excited for a classic deli. I usually don't leave reviews but my husband and I were both so taken aback by how rude the woman working the front was. She was super unpleasant, short with us, and was condescending when we asked clarifying questions that didn't align with the menu written on the board - for example apparently only cold sandwiches were being served at this time but they were NOT doing bacon because the grill was closed, yet the BLT was under cold sandwiches. I don't usually write reviews and this is all based on my personal opinion and my personal experience, but I felt compelled to do this one because of such a terrible experience that I had. While taking a long ride through the mountains with my friend and our dogs, we decided to pull over here because it looked like a good place to get a coffee and maybe a sandwich. We got out of our car and let the dogs out with us on a leash so that they could get out and stretch their legs as well. Almost immediately, we were met by this extremely unpleasant, grumpy, and downright nasty woman who either owned the place or ran it. She stood in the doorway, staring at us from about five feet away, and proceeded to say, "Are you going to pick up your dog shit when she goes to the bathroom?" To our amazement, we said, of course, we are responsible dog owners. Our dogs had already gone to the bathroom before and were just stretching their legs. But if they did go to the bathroom, we would absolutely pick everything up. We were also at the back of the building on the edge of the woods, not anywhere near the lawn or anything; the grass was as high as our knees against the woods. I then said we were just letting them stretch their legs and were going to buy some food and coffee. Again, to our amazement, she said, "Well, that doesn't give you the right to let your dog shit on my property!" When I tell you, this person was so extremely mean and rude and did not hear anything that we said and just wanted to be nasty about it. So we said, seeing that we have been greeted with such disrespect, we are just going to take our business someplace else. She didn't even care and just turned around and walked back into the doorway. I have read through all of the reviews here on Google and it seems like everyone has had a similar experience with this person. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here, and if I were dying of thirst and starving, I would walk right past this place. When you own an establishment, you should be polite and kind. Fantastic hot tomato motz sandwich. I split it with my husband with a bag of chips. I didn't realize they had home made chips until after I purchased, next time. They had a few vegetarian options, which is nice to have a choice instead of the one token veg item. Cute general store too. Def a staple for future Bartlett/Conway trips. read more

Please heed the other two warnings about the bitter and mean owner. She accused me of stealing in front of my four kids after I had already spent $30 on breakfast and had forgotten my coffee and was trying to pay with a debit card again because I didn't have cash and there's a five dollar minimum. Lesson learned I totally get it I'll bring cash in New Hampshire. And she told me you're basically stealing from me as I was frantically trying to find something else to make up for the five dollars. She also told me have a nice time at Santas village. I guess that's a really horrible thing to say to a tourist because I have no clue what Santas Village is. The lady at the front desk was SO incredibly rude to me. After having my car break down near by, I walked in to stay warm and wait for my ride. She rudely asked if I needed anything and then proceeded to pester me for sitting on a bench near the front door, disrespectfully telling me "I should not be sitting on the newspapers" which I was not. Bart's Deli is a classic country store with a deli. Very old fashion, but has everything needed for a day on the road in NH. The store is clean, well organized and cozy. The staff are the real deal. They are kind of like that favorite Aunt you have that tells you how it is, but she always treats you right. That's what these ladies bring. My experiences there have been great. Something about the atmosphere just does it for me. And the conversation is always spirited. It's important to keep in mind that this is a country store, not some North Conway tourist trap. What you get here are real people and real country style food. May not be for those who live a super high end or high maintenance life. I give Bart's 5 stars because it's just what the doctor ordered when either heading out for a 4 hour mountain drive or when coming back from a 4 hour mountain drive. read more

New customer and ordered a pizza half way thru my drive to get to this deli, took me 35 minutes to get there, 1 way. I was told the pizza would be ready in 20 minutes, perfect. 20 minutes later I arrived and asked the very rude lady in the deli if it was ready. I stopped in here for a few items while staying at Attitash Grand resort. I read a quick review before going in and saw all the comments about the gray haired rude woman. She lived up to the reviews. She watched my kids like a hawk and yelled at them for everything they touched. They picked up hula hoops and I heard her yell to my 7 and 9 year olds "are you going to buy those!!?" My son was turning on the lantern/flashlight on the shelf and she barked "don't turn all of those on!" Don't recommend it. Worst pancakes I've ever had, though I imagine pancakes could be even worse. They weren't fully cooked or tasted raw, were way too thick and not in a good way, and had a bad consistency. The bacon is too fatty on sandwiches. It looked a bit like a Philly cheese steak, with loads of steak, melted cheese, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, and it came out piping hot. The sandwich was decent but not amazing. The flavor of the overall sandwich was actually pretty bland, and the veggies were a bit undercooked. However, for the price and convenience it was a great sandwich. As mentioned the deli had quite a few options, and combined with the general store it wouldn't be too hard to find something both to eat and drink. There is a small amount of seating, though more than I expected, and the overall atmosphere was super casual. Even though the food was average, the portion size was good and the price even better, so it was a good value for what you got. Bart's isn't a spot I would plan on going to for lunch, but in a pinch it is a great convenient option if you are hiking in the White Mountains. read more

Literally in the middle of nowhere, we stopped here on our way from N Conway to Whitfield for a bite to eat. When you first enter , you walk into a fairly large and well stocked convenience store. In the back corner, you will find the deli with a couple of tables where you can enjoy your selections. I ordered a steak and cheese while Mrs. B had an Italian. After ordering our subs, we walked back to the convenience store to grab sodas and payed for our food and drinks. What i did find interesting is that they also have a sitting room with couches and comfortable chairs for you to relax on as well as a few tables and chairs, all out of the way of the hustle and bustle of other patrons. As for the food, We both thoroughly enjoyed the taste of our selection, though I thought the size was a bit lacking for the price. read more

Waited 30 minutes in line in awkward silence before the gentleman behind the counter even looked or spoke to us. Finally takes our order in a rather rude tone/ attitude. After another 10-15 minutes go by our food is finally ready and to my surprise at the register my 6 inch cold Italian sandwich was 12$ which upon eating it I realized was nearly the worst sandwich I've had in years along with it being completely incorrect from what I ordered. So if your looking for absolutely horrible customer service in a dim lit place that has 2/10 food come on by this place!! Otherwise stay far far away. We come to NH two to three times are year. This past winter after snowmobiling we asked our guide where to eat. We hate chain's and rather support the local. The guide recommended Bart's, so we where forewarned about the two ladies. I'm glad she mentioned here cause we always drive by this store. Sooo, I love a challenge and I also like to make my own opinion when it comes to people. We order 5 sandwiches with two bags of chips with drinks, $51 for all. Price wise was good. We ate and enjoyed all our meals NO complaints about the food. The lady that took my order was nice to us, the lady behind the cashier was decent to me, NO complaints.
