When we told the guy at the deli counter, he thanked us for telling him and said he'd be sure to wrap them appropriately for us. After driving by this place several times on our way to Maine from Vermont, we stopped for lunch recently and I think it will be a common place for us to grab a bite to eat from now on. The sandwich selection is great, and I had an excellent "Black Russian" which was basically a griddled pastrami sandwich with russian dressing and Swiss cheese. My wife had a turkey bacon dill sandwich, which she said was good, but was a bit overloaded with fresh dill that made it a little "grassy." If you are in the area and you need some quick supplies for camping or your family, they have a surprisingly broad selection. Greeted by the manager Oscar the Grouch, she yelled to us that breakfast was "over there!". The cook, who reminded us of Kathy Bates from Misery, was so rude and shouted at us that there was no white bread!!, which all 3 of my kids wanted. We felt so unwelcome. Oscar, who seemed to thrive on arguing, snapped at me when I took 3 coffee cups "you're gonna have to pay for both cups!!" A nice little hole in the wall that provides some of the best ice cream I have ever had. The serving sizes are HUGE, the flavors are unique and delicious and location is very convenient. Attached to a genera store, I especially loved all the little unique gifts or fidgets you could get. Buying local at this place only seems logical. The chef/owner (I think he's Bart but forgot to ask) is super nice and very accommodating. They have this cool living room-like area in the back where you can eat that my kids loved. If I could give this place no stars I would....Stopped in before we went to third iron Bridge I go up to the White Mountains with my family every year and this place was by far the absolute worst I have ever been in...the place by itself is pretty nice Just a regular country store definitely overpriced.....but the stafffffff are two of the most inconsiderate rude and atrocious women I have ever met in my life, no masks on either of them and the woman who made my sandwich had no gloves when she made my sandwich and sounded like she had been smoking 30 packs of Newport's a day for 50 years... The woman at the counter was very rude to my mother when my mother asked her for directions somewhere and left her standing at the ice cream window for about 10 minutes... so then I went inside she told me I couldn't pay with my hundred dollar bill and said you don't have a card or a 10 or a 20 at least ?? but was very rude about it it was almost like I was inconveniencing her just for coming into her store to buy a sandwich And a few other things And give her my money smh she was just plain old mean when I tried to make small talk and tell her we were going swimming and she was like good luck there's about 200 people where you're going I just don't understand how people can be so miserable and negative if you hate your job that much then why are you there !!! Yes, this is a convenience store. That being said, it's a great one, with plenty of your regular on-the-go snacks to choose from and a full-service kitchen in the back. Amazing breakfast sandwiches- huge (and fresh) ham egg and cheese on a large bagel for 2.99. We went back two days in a row for breakfast. With not much else around (other than driving to N.Conway) we also tried their pizza, which was excellent. A great stop for a quick breakfast/lunch or takeout. I've been coming to the mountains for years, and stopping at this place only when desperate. Unless you need a breakfast sandwich or coffee, just go to Walmart on your way in and save yourself a bunch of money. It's way too overpriced. Bart's Deli is a fabulous general store / deli / diner. If you drive on 302 anywhere near Bartlett, NH you have to stop here. The store has a great selection of general supplies from bread and milk to aspirin, laundry soap, insect repellent, beer and wine, and snacks. They've also got a great short-order kitchen in the back with breakfast and breakfast sandwiches, deli sandwiches and wraps, and pizza and burgers! The staff is warm and friendly. I was in Bartlett for 7 days and ate at Bart's three times. And before you buy any T-shirts or souvenirs make sure you stop at Bart's. So We were on desperate search for a quick lunch and found ourselves at Bart;s Deli and General Store. the store was clean and well organized and for a small general store offered quite a broad selection of items. At the back of the store is the "deli" and grille area. The sandwich selection was quite extensive and varied. We had a medi vegetarian wrap w/ feta and an olive pesto spread. You know, when I think of the White Mountains deep in NH I think of friendly country folks. Not here. The 2 "women" who work here are the most miserable unfriendly old h*gs I ever met. The 2nd I walked in the door the lady behind the counter gave me an attitude for asking where do i order. The cook had an attitude cause I harmlessly misread the menu not realizing its breakfast sandwiches so when she asked me what bread I was confused. She huffed & puffed like a dragon & said "grrrr you want plates of breakfast". Then said prices are subject to change. I paid 35 bucks for 3 plates. I can't lie, food was good but when she gave me my food couldnt of been much more of a fake smile & voice. The lady at the front desk didn't fail me a 2nd time as it seemed I was bothering her to pay for my food. She slammed my credit card & slammed my receipt on the counter. By the looks of her she hasn't got la*d in a while, neither did the cook. I so badly wanted to give them a piece of my mind but who knows what the cook did to my food already & the lady in the counter prob woulda called the police saying i was trying to rob them. Went in to get my niece an ice cream and balloons. Looked like a cute nice store. The woman behind the register was the most unpleasant, rude and negative person I have encountered in a long time. My niece even tried to talk to her and be nice and she got back a blank rude stare. I picked up a cookie (wrapped in plastic) to show my niece how big it was, but then put it back. She rudely asks me if I'm going to buy that and I responded no. She then goes "Well, could you stop handling the item?" I get it, we are in a pandemic and your being cautious. Although if you're so concerned about me touching a cookie, and putting it back, where were your masks and gloves? Where was your hand sanitizer at the register? Where was your enforcement for customers to where masks and gloves? If your going to be so concerned about me touching a cookie how about you abide by the rules yourself. While your at it please take a course in customer service. We will NEVER be back and I will be sure to let my family and friends in the area know about this experience. When I asked why my sandwich didn't have its cheese I was told it was because I didn't ask for it...........even though the description said it has Swiss on it. We went up to the window and when we were ready to order everyone was confused and talking at the same time and she raised her voice at us and said stop talking at the same time we were like uh ok. Heading to Mount Washington for a ride on the Cog Railway, we wanted to stop for a quick bite to eat and to pick up water, etc. The front desk at our hotel suggested Bart's since it was on the way. Walking into the store was like a throwback to a bygone era. It's a little place with a counter at the back to order breakfast. I got a breakfast sandwich and my husband got eggs, home fries and toast. The older guy behind the grill is a hoot - if you take too long to order, he will rush you along. I didn't take it as rude....just typical New Englander not wanting his time wasted by someone who can't decide between bacon or sausage! The breakfasts were delicious - literally like homemade fresh off of the stove. We picked up muffins for breakfast the next day since we knew were going on a hike right from our hotel. The pumpkin and french toast muffins were excellent!!! We also bought beer, a bottle of wine, and waters to get us through a few days. Prices are reasonable and we got everything we needed. As other reviewers have mentioned, the lady at the register is all business but, again, we didn't feel she was rude - just a staid New Englander not prone to useless small talk. not a lot of choices for places to eat out there, but we were there 10/12/15. the convenience store was well stocked with a jar of jalapeño peppers! seriously the man knows how to make a sandwich! he was energetic and appeared passionate about his offerings. we had two long roll sandwiches, one turkey, the other Italian combo with hot pepper relish. both were fresh and delicious. what more can you ask for in the middle of nothing but mountains. I liked the place very much and despite the other reviews, the lady was real good to us. I just felt compelled to write a review since good food seems to be lacking in NH. it sure isn't abundant, obviously we don't want a DD or Starbucks at every corner (chains) but maybe a quality family run pizza joint could be useful. right now even 'good' restaurants are missed in upper NH mountains. is is the kind of place you wish all could enjoy, even the locals. there's nothing else out there! read more
