Good lord I love this burger. It is my Platonic ideal of a burger: juicy, a little fatty, savory, tender. The fries are great too. So's the arugula and white bean salad. Everything else I've tried has been okay but just okay. Beer list here is amazing. I wish it changed up a little more frequently but that's just nit-picking. Service is a fascinating mix of really friendly and attentive, and openly hostile. You never know what you're going to get, so fun. (I exaggerate- it's usually the former, but the latter happens often enough that my hackles go up preemptively now.) Ambience is cozy, relaxed, fun. I'd been hearing about the indo for awhile, but just finally visited recently with my fiancé. We visited for brunch, and overall the food and drinks were really good, and service was meh. Our brunch drinks were great, specifically the boozy iced coffees. They were definitely boozy (in a good way!). Their Bloody Mary's were also top notch. The croque cristo was the highlight for food, and the not so Benedict was good, but had a very acidic taste that was a little off putting. Their fries are super tasty, as are the stewed potatoes. Service was just a little too nonchalant for me. I appreciate a non-intrusive server, but I felt like we were waiting to get menus for a little too long, and waiting to pay for awhile too. There were only a few other people there when we were, so it was especially offputting. I'd probably come back for dinner just to give some other menu items / service another try! read more

My brother and I dined here on Easter. There were limited options open on Zombie Jesus day, but my brother's friend suggested The Indo and I'm glad went. A band was playing (Irish music of course) and we had a nice meal by the window. I was surprised that they had Aventinus on Draft. Make that astounded. Only one other place I can think of has Aventinus (Sunset Bar and Tap) and it's bottled (at least it was the last time I was there). Anywho, it's a strong German beer and it comes in a nice glass so you should definitely try it. For apps, we tried the hog's back wings, Buffalo wings, and Bacon/gorgonzola fries. All were very good, especially the hog wings. So tender! For dinner I had Bangers and Mash with brown gravy. The sausage had nice texture, and overall I really enjoyed the flavor. Seemed legit to me! Of course, it's not traditional Easter fare for my family, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think the Indo is one of the best Irish bars around. The service was great. Love the ambiance! It's very cozy. My husband and I came here on a Sunday at noon. Apparently, this place has a great brunch, however they will not be serving brunch for a few more weeks until the new chef is complete with revamping the menu. There was a nice selection of local and imported beers and ciders. I had a delicious local cider that our server suggested and my husband chose a Bloody Mary. He said the Bloody Mary wasn't the best he's had, but then again, I guess this place is known for its beers anyway. For an appetizer, we got the fried pickles and parmesan truffle fries (highly recommend). And for the main course I got a beautifully presented Caesar salad and my husband got the vegetarian beet burger - which he said was smoky, meaty and delicious. I really liked this spot and wish I found it sooner. It's a laid back pub nothing fancy about it but exactly how I like my weekday picks. We went on Tuesday which was trivia night. They have a great beer list full of local craft beers and have some solid pub food. I had the Artifact Cider and Bog from Far From the Tree, both MA cideries. For dinner I had the chickpea gyro which was out of this world! The pita was yummy and the chickpea patties were on point. I swapped out a half salad for the fries and like how you can pick from any of the salads on the menu. I went with the green apple & arugula salad. I hope to frequent this place. The Indo is a great spot. It's actually reminds me of another great spot, the now defunct Old Spot in Salem (GOD I MISS THAT PLACE). It's the same vibe: cozy, dark pub style you'd just as likely see in Shoreditch. The space itself is large enough to accommodate a decent crowd, which patrons of the owners other bar, The Gaff, would likely clamor over. It used to be another bar, that was sort of divey, and DEFINITELY nothing to write home about in any regard, so the renovations have given the space a sexy new life. BEERS: the owners are beer guys, and consistently keep the tap list fresh. It's a good mix of local/regional craft brews and some of the heavy hitters from out of town. The nerdier of the nerds would love to know that Mike and Steve somehow get their hands on Maine Brewing Lunch more than most bars around MA. Score. COCKTAILS: my wife digs these too much. She'll tell you they are amazing. Only thing that sucks is that I have to usually pay for them. FOOD: inspired pub stuff. burgers are always great. wings are better than any place in Salem/Beverly that i've had at least. the Bistro sandwich is kickass. Also recommend the gorgonzola fries with bacon because bacon. Service is paramount to the owners, who would literally bend over backwards to provide an enjoyable experience to their patrons. Seriously? It's Saturday night and I can't hear anyone over the ridiculously loud music. I also can't see anyone because the lighting is at the point where you can just barely see any light coming out of each bulb. I get that it's for setting the atmosphere, but it's really silly that we had to yell at each other to have a conversation, use the flashlight app on my phone to read the menu, and yell our drink order into the server's ear. The drinks were good, but I would have preferred to be able to hear and see. I'm sure this is just on Friday and Saturday nights after a certain time, but the lighting and noise wasn't as terrible at the next place we went to. read more

I was very unhappy with the welcome we received at The Indo. Before I took my coat off the bartender was sure to tell me that it was bar service only and no one would be coming to my table. I can see why because she spent must of the evening on the other side of the bar with her friends rather than serving customers. I've been living in Beverly less than a year but this has easily become one of my favorite spots on the north shore. I've been here for brunch & dinner. Been here when busy or super slow. The food never waivers. Always delicious. (Get the fries - they're so simple but so delicious.) The servers are genuinely kind and helpful. (Don't seem like they're putting on an act.) Because it is a small joint, it DOES get overrun before shows at the Cabot. Fear not, the service might slow down but the food is so worth it. Also the beer selection is fabulous. I'm really happy that The Indo Pub is open! Beverly needed a place like this. It is a great mix or casual but cool, not too expensive, not too trendy, relaxed, charming, comfortable. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. The service is great. The music is classic and upbeat. I loved the menu, which had maybe a dozen apps and a dozen main plates. I had the fish and chips. It comes in newspaper- which is a traditional English way of serving it! Nice presentation! The textures were perfect- crunchy golden outside and light flaky fish. It could have used a bit more seasoning, but I'm not complaining. The drink/draft menu was large and diverse. I would go back to try some apps and sit at the bar. Love this place. My girlfriend and I come here for brunch whenever we can - the food is great, the service is always friendly, laid-back and genuinely concerned with how the guests are doing. The "Light and Sunny" is a great cocktail to have with brunch - just a friendly tip! Also, Indo has a lot of really great beers on tap and the prices are pretty good. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming. The barstools are comfortable and the fireplace (albeit, fake) in the corner is a great touch. I haven't ventured to too many places on the North Shore yet but I have to say I was very impressed by the Indo. The interior has been very well done and has a classy, sophisticated feel without any pretentiousness. They have a great variety and selection of local beer, which was a welcomed departure from the typical product you see. I've honestly been holding onto this review for so long, and after reading a little about how people have also had a hard time with the waitstaff, I decided to follow through. I went to the Indo over the summer with a few friends. We ordered three shots of tequila to celebrate my friend being back in town and were just looking to hang out. We sat down at a table and then had to go up and order the drinks. It took forever, the waitress was extremely rude, and then after about 15 minutes the shots were thrown at me and I brought them to our table. We sipped, but it was so loud and uncomfortable that we didn't want to order anything else. I went up to pay my tab, and use the restroom before calling it a night. Now, I'm always one to tip a decent amount on my tab. I'm a "millennial" (haha) and I feel awful tipping even the standard 20% because, heck they did their best. At the anchor, I leave $10 on a $10 tab, and I love seeing the staff light up about it! However, I honestly felt like our waitress was so rude and nobody really helped us at all other than throwing our drinks in our general direction. I tipped $1.00 on the tab and signed and went to the restroom. When I came back, my friend said that the waitress had confronted her that I "needed to learn how to tip my waitstaff" and rudely approached her about it. My friend, obviously not sure what to do since literally nobody should EVER do that to a customer, gave her a $10 to cover and apologized. She said that she was rude and demanding about getting a tip. We still talk about it to this day and exclaim about how that has literally never happened, and that I would be appalled to ever confront a customer as a waitress. Of course, the waitress got her point across because I did end up feeling terrible about it -- heck, who knows, it could have just been busy. I went back the next day during lunch with a note and a $20 bill to sort of make up for it. I went in and was greeted by a nice man and I said that I was looking to talk to someone who was there last night. He directed me to the bar counter, where I waited for a few minutes. A lady came out and asked me what was up. I told her about the instance and handed her the envelope and the money. (At this point, our waitress had now received $31 in a tip from this). I asked if she knew who the waitress was, and she kind of scoffed at me and said: "yeah, she told me about it, I know who you're talking about". Honestly, my friends keep asking if I want to go there and every time I tell them the story and they are utterly shocked and we go somewhere else. Whenever anyone even mentions the Indo, I tell them this story to make sure they know. Every single person I've told has been baffled and suggests another restaurant. I don't think I'll ever set foot in here again. It's really too bad, because I love how cute it is inside, and their poutine was to die for! I also love the live performances -- but not at the cost of being demanded a tip for not-so-great service and actually confronting and being excessively rude to your customers. read more

Went on shortly after they opened due to needing use my laptop for work but wanting to ensure some deliciousness. I felt like a barfly being the 2nd person to enter the bar, but the awesome bartender informed me they had wifi I could use, gave me the entire corner table with more accessible wall plugs, complimented me on my goofy leggings, and was attentive w/o overbearing. Happy as a beer lover and vegetarian to find two of my favorites that afternoon: (1) Maine Beer Company's Lunch on draft, and (2) a "chickpea burger" which was basically a less intensely flavored falafel-style pita sandwich... but still nonetheless delicious! I opted IN for the parmesan truffle fries for an extra ~$2 but they were just ok so I'll probably pass on them in the future. A+ time when you don't have to deal with the freshly 21ers. Really into the fact that they have German beer on tap that's fresh; (particularly Rothaus) a minor miracle... and the staff here are among the friendliest of any neighborhood bar- Say hello to Mike and Justin! Music choice is on point and the food is near 'gastropub' level, seriously. There are weekly special food + beer pairings for $10- which is a great value. I've gone in here before and enjoyed the drinks and service. Unfortunately, our last experience was terrible. There were several empty tables, and we were able to sit right away. There were 2 bartenders: one male who was great, and a female who was rude. The male mixed our drinks which were great and we made sure we told him. The female came over to us twice in 15 minutes and asked if we wanted another round. We hadn't finished our drinks yet and politely said, "Not yet, thank you." She immediately made a face, postured and came back over to our table slamming the check down which was insulting and surprising. We were hoping to have a few more drinks but her attitude was ridiculous, unwelcoming and rude. So this is a neighborhood hang out for me and I used to love to walk up on nice evenings. I would always bring friends here when I needed a real wonderful local place to go. But something has changed. The last 3 times we've been, all different days and all different times, the service has been so lax. Went for trivia night tonight and to try the place for the first time since Kitty O'Sheas. We wanted to try out the Geeks Who Drink version of trivia. Initially all was good. The food (soft pretzel to start) was good and beer choice was extensive. The fish and chips were great too! We were pumped when we saw the trivia "host" hoisting a huge speaker up into a stand. BUT...things fell apart quickly. The service at our table slowed noticeably while the "host" sped up his show and was more interested in drinking with family/friends than in announcing points or clarifying questions and answers. People started becoming outrageously loud and no one seemed to care - seemed most were the host's family andfriends. It was so loud it drove us to get up in search of someone to give us our check so we could get out. We would have stayed for another round but we couldn't bear it. To wrap this up...good selection of beer, good food, obnoxious ambiance, and staff unwilling to consider the possibility that new customers may be present who might have recommended the place to others.
