The best time to come to this location is early in the morning it's not crowded. I needed to purchase Behr ceiling paint by my surprise there was an employee in the paint section that I can ask a question. There have been times I had to stand around and wait and the employees would walk by you. I walked around then went on the self check out . I see they have more self check out registers but only one employee assistanting customers checking out. I was glad out was out of the store quick, but they to hire more people. read more

This location might have some of the most unhelpful employees in the city. They don't acknowledge you when standing directly infront of them and when asking questions to help one's self find the things they need they are also clueless and seem to have no knowledge of the store. I also asked about other locations on a major holiday and while the young woman present may not have known it would have been helpful if she could reach out to other locations as I was to find what I needed instead of going everywhere. not my first bad experience at this location but certainly the most annoying. Wing nuts and screws was what I come for. I had to ask 3 ppl for help but I get cranky when it comes to stuff like hammer and nails and my dad lives all the way in Chicago. So yeah first guy was like aisle 11 and I was consumed with nails measuring it all wrong and got PISSED! Then I was about to make the guy show me (who says that) but ran into the key making guy who I asked to refer to me to a person who could show me. I have been on the phone on hold an hour and thirty minutes. I would like a curbside pick up. I'm a senior citizen and need assistance at Valley Stream. I placed one order online and the two items were sent to two different locations. I had no problem with the Elmont location. A nice young lady brought my merchandise to my car. A very attentive and customer-friendly Elmont staff also answered my phone call and changed my order from pick-up to curbside seamlessly. I was there no longer than 30 minutes. read more

Extremely disappointed in the customer service here today. Had a horrible experience this morning purchasing a Christmas tree at this location. There was no one in the gardening area to help me prep the tree so I could drive it home (cut the bottom, wrap it in netting, etc.), and every employee that I stopped and asked for help said "I don't do that," and walked away. I finally went over to customer service and asked to speak with a manager. I just knew the manager was going to get things done.....wrong. She paged, and paged, and paged over the intercom for a gardening employee to come and help - but no one ever came! I walked up and down the aisles asking employee after employee if they could help with the tree until FINALLY this tiny, unassuming older woman said "come with me dear, I'll help you." I, the customer, had to go into the dangerous area marked "employees only" so I could help her carry the tree and hold it steady on the table as she cut the bottom with an electric chainsaw, then helped lift it into the machine to net it, smh. Between the time I arrived at HD and the time I finally found someone (on my own) to help - almost 2hrs had passed. I couldn't believe it. The only reason I stuck around for so long was because I wanted to have the tree by the time my children were home from school and surprise them. read more

This Home Depot is always full, but the customer service is lacking. The last time I was there I went to pick up items they said were in and were holding for me. When I arrived the items were not waiting for me and no one had an explanation of where the items were. They told me I would have to come back in an hour to get the items that I had already purchased online and was told they were ready for me. Unhelpful staff, disorganized. I'd give this place 0 if it were possible. We ordered for delivery were told it would be before 8am and 8pm, nothing delivered. They said they tried at 8.15pm which is rubbish as we were still home and they could have called to let us know. Cancelled re-ordered for pick up, was supposed to be ready for pick up next day, no confirmation that it was ready had to waste 2hrs on calls and eventually didn't get confirmation that it was ready till the following day at 1.30 pm. I usually go to Home Depot on Merrick but I had business errand in Valley Stream so I came into this location. I needed assistance with choosing the amount of flooring needed for my kitchen/dining area. I asked the first worker I saw and she paged someone. 10 mins later I was still waiting. I wondered around the store and found help. She got me the right amount of what I needed. Getting assistance to lift the tiles was another story and 10 mins wait. This is a garden center review, only. I want to like this place for plants, but I just can't. Although the staff is usually very nice and helpful (they're busy, so you have to look for them) I always end up with plants filled with insects that kill whatever I purchase within weeks. I think of this place as a "puppy-mill" for greenery. It's just so sad. However, they do have a great selection of flower pots and planters out back; so many styles, sizes and colors from which to choose. So, I'd say ...skip the greenery and just get the pot! read more

That includes not using Internet pick-up, and especially not trying to return anything. You will be talked down to, and may even have the added benefit of watching two store employees have a catfight with each other. Many other Home Depot stores nearby, and if you're not tied to the chain, go to Lowes (either in the 5 Towns or Garden City). This is a horrible, horrible Home Depot. Don't get me wrong you can't beat the prices and they have everything you want, but the customer service is awful. No one in there knows anything. They constantly give you a blank stare or send you to the wrong aisle. And most of them know nothing about construction, they are simply McDonald's employees in orange smocks. And trying to check out at this location is like trying to get through TSA at the airport. Terrible. I try to use a local hardware store when ever possible, but I am so glad Lowes is opening in Five Towns. Such a better run company. Like everyone else is saying, this Home Depot has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE department. We bought a large appliance there with the help of an associate who assured us that it would fit in the area we had. It wouldn't fit in the space designated for it, so the delivery people took it back after we told them we would make the space. We understand that the item is delivered by a third party, and they [the third party] have been nothing but gracious a polite. All but ONE of the customer service associates at Home Depot was courteous to us when we attempted to have the item redelivered. All they've done is blame us for not having information they should have provided us with in the first place. Without consulting us, they cancelled our order, and told us we'd have to pay an additional fee to get the item. We didn't even know that we had to go back to them to get a refund that they've had for the last couple of weeks. All the while we're being told that we can reschedule at our earliest convenience. The manager we spoke to was beyond rude when she spoke to us. She did not introduce herself and interrupted us at every turn. She made a point to tell us that she had more important business to attend to than our issue. Now we're being penalized for their fuck-up. We used to go to this HD at least twice a month. Lowes is a little out of our way, but we'd rather take my business there and small local hardware stores than continue shopping at this nightmare of a store. If you must shop there, don't bother asking for help from anyone, and use self checkout. They truly are rubbish at their jobs. read more
