I am a retired military veteran. We have been loyal Home Depot customers for years. We have bought all our appliances, washer, dryers, Christmas Trees, tools, etc. throughout the years. Our refrigerator was giving us problems so on Saturday, May 2nd, we went to Home Depot in Sunset Valley to purchase a new refrigerator. The sales person was extremely nice and helpful. We purchase a Whirlpool Side by Side and paid extra for the haul away of the old refrigerator and the upgraded braided water line for a total of $1738.47, which we paid in cash. The refrigerator was scheduled to be delivered Wednesday, May 6th, between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. On Wednesday, May 6th at 6:45 a.m. I get a text, from the delivery people, saying "We're sorry we missed you, Ron." Also stating that they came by at 6:32 a.m. (Which is not between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.). My son goes to work at 5:30 a.m. and I was up since then. I check our cameras and there is no one and no delivery truck on camera after 5:30 a.m. I call the support number on the text and explain that no one ever came to our house at that time and besides that was before 7:00 a.m. Apparently it didn't matter and I'm told they will have to reschedule the delivery to Friday, May 8th. So we'll have to do without a refrigerator for another 2 days. And mind you, we are a family of 5 in this household. My wife calls the delivery people and they tell her that yes they got here at 6:32 a.m. and that they waited for 45 minutes. I look at our cameras again and I see my son leave at 5:30 a.m. and then me walking out at 7:00 a.m. looking down the block to see if I see a delivery truck. There was no delivery truck in site. Then on Thursday, May 7th, I get a text telling me that now the refrigerator won't be delivered until Saturday, May 9th. So due to the rescheduling and the outright lies by the delivery people on May 7th I cancel the order. At 11:49 a.m. on May 7th, I receive an email verifying that I cancelled my order. The title of the email states, "One or more items were canceled from your Home Depot order." And it list the order number (H6570-701438) which is the Whirlpool refrigerator, haul away and braided water line. And under "Receiving your Refund" it states, "If you Paid with a Gift Card, Debit Card, Cash, Check, or Pro Xtra Dollars - Please visit the Customer Service Desk at the Store to receive your refund." So I go over to the store to receive my cash refund. I get to the store, go to Customer Service and I am told that I can't get my cash refund for up to 7 days. I'm taken aback. I advise the clerk that's not what the email says and I can't go without a refrigerator for another week. The clerk calls someone else and I am told the same thing. It is explained that my cancellation is pending. I tell them I'm not pending anything. I cancelled the order. They explain that it is pending until they hear back from the distributor. I tell them that is their problem not mine. I did not deal with the distributor, I dealt with Home Depot. They tell me it is store policy and I respond by asking them to show me the store policy because I have written policy that says I get an immediate refund if I paid in cash. I speak to an appliance manager name Logan. He tells me the same thing. I ask to speak to someone above them. They refer me to a manager who I find out later is named Austin. He tells me the same thing. He attempts to tell me that this policy is written somewhere on my invoice or receipt. I show him my invoice and receipt and he goes through them and does not find anywhere that says that. I show him the email I got from Home Depot that states I should get my cash refund back. Again he tells me that he can't because it is a pending cancellation. We go back and forth about that again. At the end he can't help me. That's when I start making all the phone calls. Here is a list of all the numbers I called; 1-800-HOMEDEPOT, 1-800-430-3376, 1-877-946-9843, 1-877-467-3409, 1-770-4338211. And this is a partial list of all the people I spoke to. Some would not give me their names; Brianna, Abbey, Toni, Juan, Lisa, Eugeana, Will, Matt, Christi, Logan, Austin. I kept asking for a Regional, District, Area Manager and would get the run around. I made approximately 30-40 calls and got hung up on about 10-15 times. There was one time I was told I was speaking to some top manager. I explained my situation and his exact words were, "that's bullshit, you shouldn't have to go through that." He said he was transferring me to someone that would take care of this. I get transferred, the phone rings and it goes straight to the survey, which means I got hung up on. I was told at least 3 times by people on the phone that I can go get my refund only to get there and be told no. Towards the end of the day I reach someone at the store who says they will transfer me to the top manager of the store. I am on hold for over 2 hours.(CONTINUED) read more

Today I went to Home Depot. I had to buy 4016 foot two by sixes which is no small task. I'm in the aisle struggling to load up the cart three different Home Depot employees passed me by didn't help at all. I get to check out park my trailer outside and start loading them onto my trailer at which time to employees who are standing there talking about their weekend. Come up to me and ask me if I'm done yet because they need to load a pallet of cement onto a truck behind me. I tell the guy I would've been done 15 minutes ago if y'all had come over here and helped me load them his response we take one customer at a time, sir. Pathetic. The service at this Home Depot is always awful. They are always understaffed and have employees that just don't care. I spent $140,000 last year on my pro account. on 11/26/25, I bought an Empava brand wall oven from Home Depot. The only documentation that came with it was an installation manual. I had it installed and it seemed to be working ok. Then I baked 2 dozen cookies. The cookies on the top rack were fine but the cookies on the bottom rack were raw. I investigated and discovered that the was NO HEATING ELEMENT on the bottom. I called Home Depot Sunset valley and they said that all appliances must be returned within 48 hours. I hadn't used the bottom rack within 48 hours. Anyway they sent me a copy of the warranty card on 12/17. The card said that it must be filled out within 2 weeks which had passed. I attempted to call the manufacturer but they were out for an extended Christmas break. Then on 12/28, I cooked a dinner at 400 degrees for 18 minutes and the oven BLEW UP!!! There was glass all over the Inside and the kitchen and even shards in the next room over 20 feet away. It made an extremely LOUD noise when it blew up. I've contacted Home Depot online and Home Depot Sunset Valley. I've contacted the manufacturer. I was referred to Home Depot's Insurancewho rejected my claim because there were no Injuries. I was in the next room - the cats flipped out but appeared to be ok. I hired a Professional Advocate who spend hours trying to get a straight answer and a refund without getting anywhere. Fingers were pointed away and anywhere else. Hone Depot sold this dangerous and extremely poor quality piece of junk and Empava wall ovens are still for sale. I had an item delivered from Home Depot and it arrived damaged. It happens. I contacted the main Home Depot customer service, who told me specifically that I needed to contact the Sunset Valley store to resolve the issue and provided me the phone number. I called that number and spoke to the manager about the damaged delivery. He couldn't have been more rude or less helpful, so I would definitely not recommend this location due to rude and unprofessional management. read more

As someone who is a Home Depot ProX customer who has spent more than $50,000 at this store last year -- I am sorry to say that this is the most terrible store that I have ever had any business to do with. And I don't just mean that this is the worst Home Depot store, but rather the worst store ever!! It is staffed with incompetent and uptight people in many cases. Some staff are actually good and helpful but too many seem unhappy to be there and reluctant to help others. One employee walked away from me after I asked for help with an angry look. Another elderly woman employee was repeatedly rude when I called her department. The customer service area is likewise staffed with incompetent staff who cannot deal with any matter that is a bit out of the norm or a bit complex. One customer service person said that "sorry I don't know anything about the Home Depot app when I tried to redeem some ProX dollars. And finally, avoid the kitchen design department at all cost. Our kitchen redesign that was supposed to take 2 months ended up taking a whole year with endless frustrations and incompetent and uncommitted vendors! Update May 1, 2025: Unfortunately my wife had to pay another visit to this store to shop for a bathroom vanity. No staff was available to help us so we requested help and this came in the form of an elderly woman called Linda from the Plumbing department. Despite the fact that my wife and I were very respectful and patient, Linda treated us very rudely and in a patronizing manner. She seemed more interested in getting rid of us rather than of being any help at all. At one point my wife asked her about the countertop material on the vanity. This was important to know because we did not want a marble top that can stain easily. Linda responded by saying, "I don't know -- I am not a geologist!" Was it possible to have a countertop with a single hole and not three (for the taps), or could we get the countertop separately? Once again we got flippant and rude responses and suggestions to look online and to do our own research! I have to admit that I have this suspicion that Linda was acting so rudely only in response to our ethnicity! read more

Unfortunately I had to give one star. Have had several issues with customer service over the course of the last three weeks. Today topped it off for me. The staff is lazy, they don't answer the phone, they are rude. When I complained to the manager, he reply "they don't want to work". I did buy my husband a complete set of rigid cordless 18 volt battery powered tools that he thoroughly enjoys using. The Milwaukee is generally considered the best but the rigid is half the price and comes with a lifetime warranty. My son is a carpenter prefers DeWalt but so far so good with the Ridgid tools. This is a great location in Central Austin and servicing Southwest Austin also. read more

My friend and I put the employees through a LOT today, and we were given nothing but help and kindness and grace. We had a huge, really messy purchase order situation for a garden in a public space, and we made it way more complicated than it had to be. We were there for hours trying to get it together, and everyone was so helpful, from the rental department to the really patient fellows who loaded and then UNloaded a full box truck for us - thank you. If I were them, I would have run me over with a forklift, but they were understanding and affable throughout the ordeal. And the customer service guy went above and beyond. The store has beautiful high quality items, and staff is so helpful, though it seems they have priced their items unreasonably high, even after accounting for inflation. $37 after tax for a simple no-name-brand shower curtain tension rod. I went in later in the morning than I normally do and was approached 3 times by sales people trying to sell bath remodeling, AC tune-ups, etc. Maybe this is typical for the time of day, though it really ruined the shopping experience, wasted my time, and ruined my train of thought for the projects I was shopping for. read more

They page this guy, walk away to find someone to help and never return. It's fn great just how incapable they are. Joel was great but he wasn't able to get the material I needed. Update: Joel was able to figure out the right person to ask. Problem was solved and they helped me load my stuff. I understand being understaffed but it's so frustrating sometimes. The plants are very well maintained even for 106 degrees! The material is organized, clean, and the SELECTION! ... Heck it rivals any independent nursery I've ever seen. Amazing annuals, top perennials, cactus, shrubs, hanging baskets, etc etc etc.... truly a fantastic garden center! The garden gated are open... there is a cashier waiting... and just tons of beautiful plants are here! I am amazed at the quality of product this location has been able to maintain. read more

During the 'rona days, this particular Home Depot has been one of my go-to spots. The home depot is easy to get into and has a lot of supplies I need. The clerks here have been super helpful and nice. Be sure if you are a veteran to claim your 10% off. Just let them know during checkout, show your veteran's ID, and BAM you got 10% off your purchase. It saved my husband and me a lot of money for items like Ring, Trager grill, and other misc new house stuff. read more

Decided to stop by this Home Depot in search of propane tank hoses and accessories on a Tuesday around 2:30PM. Second time in less than a week I'm left waiting in the aisle for an associate familiar with what I needed. First orange apron wearing associate is not familiar so he calls for assistance over store intercom, disappears, and 15 minutes later still no help. Decided to walk over to customer service area and once again inquire about getting some assistance after already waiting 15 minutes. As I walked inside I was greeted at the front door, as I walked throughout the store I was also assisted by multiple employees from every department. I only have one major concern for this store. VICTORIA? - in the paint department is EXTREMELY RUDE. She gave me AND my grandmother attitude and did not care to help us. She is the ONLY person in the entire store to ignore me so proudly. I was directed to this location to look at some appliances I had seen on the Home Depot site by my local Kyle Home Depot since they did not have any models in their store. After reviewing 2 of the brands I had some questions, there was no one "manning" the appliance section, so I went to the cabinet section and asked the gal there for help there is only one person who works there who can answer appliance questions, so she paged him. Ten minutes later no one had come, I went back to this person and asked how long the wait was to help me, and she then "went to go get him". Ten minutes later I had to go back and look for her as no one came to help me, she just said "I told him you needed help", so I left and bought my appliances elsewhere. I visited this Home Depot on 2/04/2023. I went to this location to rent a carpet cleaner and was turned away due to not having a Texas ID. Upon arrival, the tool rental desk employee stated that the store changed its policy only to accept Texas IDs for rentals. I was at this location over a month ago and rented this tool with my out-of-state ID with no problem. I understand that security is of utmost importance. However, I also feel that this policy would be considered unfair against people who have moved to Texas from out of state and do not have a Texas ID. It takes months to secure an appointment to get a Texas ID. It was a frustrating experience. After speaking with the tool rental employee, I asked if I could see the new policy. Neither the employee nor the manager was willing to find it. The employees did not help resolve the issue and offered no alternatives to the problem. The store manager claimed the policy was due to losses due to theft. Theft has nothing to do with not accepting out-of-state IDs. This home depot is the only place in South Austin that offers the tool rentals I need. This Home Depot location in Austin missed the mark and failed to meet customer expectations. read more

Gardening- usually has what I want in stock, and the lines out there are generally the shortest. If you need assistance with a gift card at the new self checkout that can sometimes take a minute out here since there are fewer staff members. Electrical supplies- these folx are always super helpful. Between the staff in this department and YouTube I've wired 3 separate buildings on my property, and fixed a few things in our main house. Plumbing- the staff in this section are usually on their game. Every now and again I run into someone who has no idea, but I get it, septic plumbing is a whole different animal. Parts in this section can often be out of place, but it's typically stocked well enough to still find what you need. Returns- I frequent this section pretty often. Home Depot is rare in their hassle free return policies-which are super helpful when you're not quite sure how much of something you're going to need. Lumber- the lumber department is hit or miss here. I prefer McCoy's pricing and selection. My last visit a staff member did help me save $10 by suggesting a similar but different cut of wood for some shelves I was building. Paint- these guys are great. I find them to be friendly and quick when mixing my paint. read more

Today my husband and I went into the Sunset Valley location, and saw they had a sign for Bonnie Veggies, and Herbs, 5 for 15. My husband, and I picked 10. When we checked out we realized we weren't honored with that price. We went back around to returns, talked to Anthony (after he finished eating his Cheez-it's for all to see-slowly I might add) and he went to check the sign, and said we were correct, but then informed us we could only get store credit. SO, even though WE WERE OVERCHARGED, we can only get store credit? Are you serious?! He said our receipt couldn't be found in the system. OUR RECEIPT WAS IN HIS HANDS SHOWING WE JUST CHECKED OUT 2 MINS AGO. Also, at one point we saw the receipt information pop up on the card system, so I'm confused if he was just lazy, or didn't know what he was doing. I asked for the manager, and Anthony just stared at me. He just basically said to get over it, and that was that. I'm LIVID. We basically had our money taken, we only did the 10 plants because of the 5 for 15, and then told we can only get store credit, and take it or leave it. This store is a hot mess. Always hiring, high turnover, and always dealing with a rude employee. I know Anthony didn't care, he just kept eye rolling, and putting his hands up like, "Get over it." All my husband, and I want is the 7.80 we were overcharged. Avoid this location like the plague. Tomorrow we are going to go to a different location to try to get our money back THAT WE WERE OVER CHARGED. read more

We went in here this morning looking for a dumpster bag. My brother put his phone in his pocket and was asking employees where the bags are located. He paid for the bag the only thing he touched in the whole store. Only to be immediately approached by theft prevention people accused of stealing. Made to empty all his pockets and was yelled at he's stealing. He had asked multiple employees where the item was before it was located even though we had called twenty minutes earlier to see if they had one. To be belittled and yelled at for no reason what so ever was completely ridiculous. There was no reason to treat a paying customer like that. The employee should be ashamed and fired. Unacceptable. The lack of customer service skills is noticeable for majority of the workers. While not all the workers are rude, the ones that are outweigh the good ones and ruin every experience at Home Depot. This is the worst location I have been to. I needed a new key copy and there was a lady who just stood by watching us (the line of people waiting) on her phone. Finally she decided to do her job and she copied the key wrong. Tell me, how do you incorrectly copy a key when a MACHINE DOES IT FOR YOU. Caveat emptor, especially if you are ordering a door. Pretty lousy experience with Millworks. A guy named Jim ordered me a door and did not explain that door frames come in two different sizes: for 2x4 walls and for 2x6 (retaining) walls. I don't have experience on these things and signed the paperwork for a standard (2x4) wall. When the door arrived at my house, the friend helping me said the frame did not match the wall, which was retaining (2x6). I called Home Depot. Jim told me, on a Thursday, that he wouldn't say whose fault it was (mine or his). But he would order a door of the correct size. When it arrived and was delivered, they would retrieve the old door. The next day, a Friday, I called to check on when the door would arrive. Jim said he would not order the door until I had paid a 15% ($75) re-stocking fee. I spoke with a manager, named Ricardo, who doubled-down on the restocking fee. Disappointing day from Home Depot. I'll be taking my business elsewhere as much as I can. read more

My past experiences with this store have always been positive. However, I recently had a terrible experience that corporate is made aware of. We went to pick up a curbside order on April 28th. We waited almost 2 hours to get the order as it was incorrect multiple times when brought to the vehicle. We understood the wait as they were very busy. However, we were very grateful when a store employee approached us and apologized and said the entire order would be refunded. We waited for the refund for 2 weeks, but never received it. I called the customer support line to check on the status, but they had no record of it. They put me in contact with the store manager, Ricardo. This is where my awful experience began. Before even allowing me to finish explaining the situation, I was interrupted by Ricardo and told that this would have never happened and his employees do not have that authority. I responded by saying that I did not appreciate being accused of lying, and I was calling to ask about the status of a refund versus requesting one, so clearly we were told that a refund was in process. He then stated again that would have never been offered, and I recommended he reinstate that to his employees as they clearly were not aware of that policy. I gave him additional information including the exact day and time frame that we were there and, I offered to describe the employee to Ricardo that offered us the refund. He responded again saying that he doubts this happened and went on to ask me if the employee was a "white girl" or a "dark girl". I explained to him that I did not like making assumptions about how employees racially identify, and he proceeded to cut me off again and ask the same question. I am appalled by his customer service and how he speaks about his employees. Hopefully, corporate will address this issue and the behavior. read more
