These guys continue to kill it with service, reliability and knowledge. I've been buying a ton of stain lately.. different colors over different days. Robert, Steve, and Chris have been well oiled machine, and the colors are coming out consistent and perfect. Also, I appreciate their diligence during the pandemic, helping to keep everyone safe and being extra cautious with their protocols. It's clear they're listening to the scientists rather than the politicians. Thank you! read more

There are some really nice people that work at this store. I have been coming here for about eight years... Ever since we moved to Austin. I have never had to return anything until today. All I will say is this: when a store associate recommends a product and it does not work properly, the company should stand behind the product and make it right. Clement's Paint Downtown did not make it right from my perspective, so I will not be back. read more

I called to see if they have low VOC stain for exterior floors. The man I talked to called other stores to see if anyone else had it since they didn't. He even went to the trouble of finding a company online that had it. How altruistic and kind!!! I'm very grateful and impressed. read more

Decent products but overall price for value of products way worse than sherwin/home depot. You will save a ton through a whole project starting elsewhere. Even our "commercial" account gives us a reasonably useless 5% off which they give you anyway as a cash customer off the street. read more

If you ever need to buy paint, I strongly urge you NOT to buy it from Clements Paint downtown. It's very simple: the owner is extremely arrogant, rude, and unprofessional. Allow me to explain - and I would like to reiterate that my review is 100% accurate - no embellishments or exaggerations - it is what it is. My friend went to several paint stores and stopped into Clements, at which the employees (extremely nice) allowed her to take home the paint sample cards (which contained all the different shades of paint the store offers) so she could decide what colors would best fit her home. They give you a time limit to hold onto this book of paint shades (I believe it was 2 weeks) and towards the end of the timeframe she called the store to ask for an extension at which the employee obliged. The next day my friend received a nasty call back from the owner of the store DEMANDING that she bring back the paint stencils immediately since they were overdue. He was unbelieveably rude and even though she mentioned calling in the day before and receiving an extension he said he "did not care and she's had the stencils long enough!" (WTF?). Well we went in the next day at which we asked to speak to the owner in person about the way she was treated on the phone. We explained what happened, the owner said the employees were not supposed to allow an extension and "did not tell him about it either" (WTF?). His attitude was extremely abrasive and arrogant (he's a short Spanish guy, in his late 40's or early 50's, charcoal hair with moustache). We told him that customers should not be the ones held accountable - or yelled at - due to his employees and their mistakes. I was now fuming at the way he was speaking to us - - then do you know what he said? "This is one of the benefits to being the owner of the store - - you don't have to give a shit if you don't want to". (WTF?). We were in disbelief at his comments, at which my adrenaline started going and I responded: "Now we see the root cause to all of the issues here - - it's the horrible management, and you have no clue as to what customer equity is - - we will never ever support your store ever again!". The owner's response: "I don't care if you come back here or not, get out of here, I have enough business and I'll do fine without yours!". I must say that was by far the most rude and unprofessional situation I have ever been involved with in my 8+ yrs in Austin - - unbelievable. The guy has no class or professionalism, so I plead for you all to please take it for what this is worth and do not support this rude owner at Clements Paint! A prime example of how you're NOT supposed to do business. You just don't treat customers that way, he obviously did not appreciate our business, so we'll take are money elsewhere. read more

Everyone went well beyond the call of duty to assist me. They spent quite a bit of time color matching my paint sample and even carried the paint out to my car - old fashioned service. read more

Clerk E. Hernandez was so helpful and knowledgable. Great customer service! Will go back when I'm ready for more painting projects.

After 25 years of historic preservation work in Austin I'm never going to the west 6th store again I was treated horribly by "speed freak" acting employees who were extremely unpleasant to buy paint from. Their bazar behavior and fidgetiness was unmistakable. Felt like they were nice to some customers and not to others. Very unprofessional I've bought from Clement when he owned just one store he's totally lost control of his business or does not care read more

Love this spot! I'm a painting neophyte, and these guys were so helpful and patient with me! They also worked with me to give me a ton of discounts , which is always appreciated. Highly recommend this spot for novice painters looking to DIY. read more

I just had a really great experience picking up paint at Clement's paint. I called from the parking lot and Ben was extremely accommodating. He came out with samples he got everything mixed for me and I didn't have to wait longer than 15 minutes. I really hope everybody can continue to support their business because you can tell there's some really good people working at this place read more

Needed to buy paint for my cabinets - painter said he could come today. Went to store on Koenig and they were out of the bases I needed for paint color. They suggested I try downtown store. When I called downtown, Van answered the phone - said he had one of the bases and he'd get the other base I needed from the Westlake store! Within 45 minutes had my paint! Van went over and beyond expected customer service! I'll be back at that store!!! read more

Steve is absent - minded. On July 21, he dropped by our house and picked up two cans (one unopened and one half - used) of Benjamin Moore Natura paint for testing. It is not odorless. It temporarily smells worse than Farrow & Ball, but the odor diffuses after three weeks. I emailed him at sales four days ago, and no response. He's better at returning voice mail. Today, he only returned one half can of paint and claims he doesn't remember taking a second unopened can. We are missing an entire $90 unopened can of paint. Scott apologized and is reimbursing us with a new second gallon of paint. read more

Always, helpful. Four years ago I bought some outdoor stain from Clement's. I didn't have any leftover stain, so I called them up. They had my paint color in a data file labeled front porch, ordered it, ready in 5 minutes. That's service. read more

Honestly, the service from all the guys here are great except for Ray. he was so rude. Is that the was you treat customers that have spent several hundreds of dollars on paint from your store? Sherman Williams is right down the street. read more

Clements Paint & Decorating is a dream store if you are a professional painting contractor who buys top quality materials like Benjamin Moore Paints. Not only are the folks who work at the two locations friendly they also know how important it is for a contractor to get in and get out with all the products they came to buy. Being in stock is very important when you make a living as a contractor you can't afford to not finish a job on time because a paint store ran out of paint. That happens at other paint stores but not at Clements they want your business and they earn it by being in stock and having friendly helpful folks working in their stores. We shop where the professionals shop and that is Clements Paint & Decorating. read more

Okay, first of all I must admit I didn't come to Yelp with the intention of writing a review on Clement's Paint. I got to Yelp's reviews of Clement's because I was looking for Clement's website to check their hours, and I came across a very disturbing review by another customer of Clement's in the Google results page that didn't reflect at all my experience with Clement and Steve at Clement's. I have been buying my paint from Clement's for 4 years now, ever since I started remodeling my house in East Austin and only wanted "green" paint with low VOCs, the production of which Benjamin Moore has been a leader in the industry (I know that this doesn't have anything to do with a bad review, but it's one of the many things I love about Clement's.) Steve and Clement both have been so helpful and knowledgeable about paint and painting techniques, and every time I have gone in they have gone out of their way to talk to me about my needs and to answer my questions. And in all my years going over there (through 4 separate paint projects,) I have only observed equal and courteous treatment of all customers, and they serve people from the east side as well as the west side and people from the movie and interior decorating business. One other thing I want to point out about Clement's is that they keep an account of everything you buy, so if you need a touch-up or information on paint you bought years ago, they have that record in your account. I love this! Finally, I STRONGLY encourage everyone to go to Clement's personally and do not make a decision as to whether to do business with them (or not) based on the negative review posted on 7/1/2008. In fact, when I asked Clement about the review (I thought it was only fair that he be aware of the review,) he was puzzled because the actual incident occurred last summer and wondered why the reviewer chose to write about it almost a year later. Clement did say that some of what the reviewer said was true but some of it was not -- when you think about it. this is the way it is with human interaction in general. There are always two sides to a story. I did notice that Clement's response was more confusion than anything else. Nothing in his manner suggested that he had anything to hide. Anyway, something to think about... Update on 3/22/09: Once again Clement and his crew have come through. I did some more painting this week, and their new Natura paint, no VOCs, is lovely. I took a friend along who is constantly redoing her house, and instead of going to Home Depot where she normally shops for paint, she bought her paint here. She brought a chip she wanted to match, and Steve used their chromotograph to match it. My friend described how Steve went to great pains to match it exactly. She says that even Home Depot doesn't use the tool they used to get a match. If you want to shop locally, and you like the personal touch, please consider Clements. Easy parking, very friendly service. read more

We've been painting our house and had heard good things about Benjamin Moore paints. Clements was the closest retailer to us and so we went in to look at chips and get some sample cans. These guys know their stuff and have been super helpful. We'll continue to shop here for all of our paint as we continue to work on our house. read more

I went to the paint store this weekend and had a miscommunication with the clerk about paint color. I got home and realized that this is not the paint color I was asking for and went back on Monday to explain the situation in hopes of getting a refund on the paint that I wouldn't use. I had a great exchange with the clerk (not the same clerk from Saturday) and was able to get a refund - and was informed this was a one time only thing. They explained to me why they have to put tint in all their paints now and it made more sense to me. Thank you for your understanding, Clements! read more

They don't match paints very well. If you need a match, go someplace else. It's happened more than once, but this is the last straw. I've been buying paint from the downtown store since 1994. No more. read more

ORRIBLE, to say the least. Let me give you a little snipit of what I have been dealing with. Every time I walk into Clements Paint & Decorating, Steve asks for my phone number and if he can take me out etc... Listen little fella, I'm not interested! Then he tells me that he'll "Hook me up" with a deal on the paint. Deal, what deal? He gave me a price of $173 per bucket of their top of the line product, he said that was what I needed because I look like a "top of the line kind of girl" this paint included a lifetime warranty against chips, etc... I told him that I would call him the following day and tell him how much paint I needed per the painter.. I called the next day to find the price per bucket had changed from $173 to $210, of course I said that wasn't the price I had been quoted by YOU Steve, well he gave me a new price of $198 and that NO ONE gets that price.. Well ok, go ahead and order it. My painter picked up the paint and proceeded to paint my home "Bleeker Beige" which should be a taupe/sage color... I got home 5 hours after my painters had started the project to find my home a creamy peach... I called Steve, "UH, big problem, paint isn't the same color, what do I do.. He asked that I bring the paint back so he can see what I was talking about, I'm the one that said, no sir, you come to my house and check...which he did, he then called me to tell me that the paint I purchased was the right color but the sample can I purchased several months ago was wrong.. Again, NO Steve, your paint IS wrong, I verified with several other sites that showed bleeker beige being the color in the sample can I purchased from you... He took the paint to the store and checked the paint against what the bleeker beige is supposed to look like and called me back, he said "You're right, something is wrong with our system, don't worry, we'll do a color match and bring out the correct color" I asked for them to cover the cost of my painters for the day's labor" He advised me that was something they usually don't do but he would check... I made it quite clear, this was an issue with them and to please understand, I will return all paint if they do not oblige. Well, they said to go ahead and return the paint and they would refund my money..They did not refund the money for the used portion...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! You and your receipt says you can return.. Anyway, moving on... I wouldn't go through this company if I were you.. I will be using the benjamin moore paint store on South Congress, they are honest, the prices are better than Clements and they carry themselves in a professional manner. Save a headache and pick another store.. read more

I needed to have paint from a can refilled into aerosol spray cans. The manager helped me out. He was very kind and professional and I was out in no time. He even carried my product to the car. I highly recommend this store for their great service. read more

I can't warn people enough about this place. The first time I walked in and asked for two specific color samples the employee was rude and condescending. He didn't know or didn't want to take the time to answer my question about undertones. Even though a friend warned me not to use them for color matching I decided to give them a shot because their location is so convenient for me. The color I asked them to match (I even provided the exact signature) was supposed to be a deep gray with purple undertones. It turned out BRIGHT purple. I thought the incentive (I'm painting my entire house) would encourage them to work with me but they are unmotivated, uninspired by their work, and fail to listen to, much less meet, the needs of the customer. read more

I have used Clement's Paint for years. I have had two houses in the Austin area and when I moved to PA, I called Clement and got the color of one of the paints I used in my first house. This was very helpful because I didn't remember the name. Clement's paint keeps the name of the colors you use so you can touch-up or use the same color when you move accross the country. Everytime I went to Clement's paint, the employees were wonderful and helpful. When I was painting my whole house, they would remember my name. read more
