We came in for my wife's birthday. It was a wonderful experience as a five-course meal. You begin your dinner in a cellar, where they offer wine and cocktails, which is a nice touch. Then you proceed to your table at 7pm for dinner. Everyone sits at the same time and enjoys the courses at the same time. I thought it was a cool experience until I realized later I wasn't a big fan of it. Everyone eats at different paces, and we had to wait primarily for everyone to be finished so we could start the next courses. We love food and don't waste much time. There was an intermission before the main entree, and personally, I didn't care; it was cool to look around and walk outside and take photos, etc., but it's just not necessary. We were hungry and looking forward to eating instead. This whole experience was close to 3 hours because it was paced out accordingly. The service was great; the server was very knowledgeable, and the ambience is great, but just expect dinner to be a bit longer. I would recommend this place for a special occasion; they do make you feel special!

The rules from their website they don't follow.

Went to celebrate a important date in our lives. Per their website you really need to dress up if not you will not be seated. We'll just spent 4 hours looking at someone in jeans, tennis shoes and a stretch out tee shirt. Seriously I could have been at Applebee's. Food is ok and wasn't epic but the service is great. If your not going to follow your own rules what else are you saying and not doing. Last time going!

The most amazing dinner - such an experience! Set course but tailored to my allergies (GF, soy free, dairy free). Absolutely delicious and amazing. We never knew this place existed but it is a must try. Truly exceptional. What a hidden gem!

Came her for my wife's birthday last night and had a wonderful time. When it comes to the service, this place is a 10/10. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, and provided excellent service across the board. I am also truly appreciative that the owner was able to make some last minute accommodations for us. If you're looking for a fine dining experience in Orange where you'll experience excellent service, then look no further. The restaurant is in a beautiful house in Orange, with tables on all 3 levels (the cellar for larger groups, the main floor for most smaller parties, and the top floor for private groups). Each floor had a different vibe, and you can explore a bit during the intermission part of the meal. I loved how the restaurant looked, and the vibe was unique and upscale. For the food, you get a 6 course meal, plus a French sandwich appetizer during the cocktail hour. The sandwich was like a ham & cheese croissant and was tasty, with the rest of the meal as follows: Amuse Bouche: 2/3 of the bites were delicious, the salmon puff was a bit strong and would've benefited from being smoked. Scallop Agnolotti: Delicious, really fresh and the textures were great. Quail: The quail was delicious, but the stuffing was very mealy which kinda killed the dish. Filet Mignon: Delicious, one of my favorite non-wood fire grilled steak preparations I've had. Everything was on point. Chocolate Seifreddo: SO good, I wish I had more room to finish this. We also got some wines throughout the night, with everything pairing well. Overall this was a really great time with a few small missteps on the food front that prevent me from giving this a full 5 stars (this was a 4.5/5 experience for sure). I'd absolutely come back when they change their menu again to experience this with a larger group, and highly recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion.

I booked this place about a month in advance for my husbands birthday dinner. They called me back a few weeks later to go over the reservation and dietary restrictions. I recommend arriving an hour early to give yourself enough time to enjoy the cocktail hour in the wine cellar basement. They served drinks and appetizers which were delicious. When dinner started we were escorted back upstairs. The service was very organized and efficient. The servers are knowledgeable and nice. The dishes were interesting, however the fish main course was not good at all. It's was super bland and boring. My husbands steak on the other hand was delicious. It's disappointing when the main course was the worst, but if I had gotten the steak I would give this place 5 stars.

Excellent food and service! Have been wanting to dine here and it was my 30th so my husband made the reservation. The food was unique and I was excited for everything to come out. As good as it was, I'm not sure if the price per person was that worth it for what it was but that's just my opinion. Service was excellent and they do put a lot of thought and consideration into everything

Ambiance and service was phenomenal. Definitely a place for a date night or special occasion. For me the food was okay. The main course (filet mignon) was cooked very well but felt like it was over salted. Even the broccoli was as well :( Sea bass however was cooked very well (my wife's selection). Even the skin was perfect. This dish had a good balance of veggies too, making it feel like a lighter meal. The three bites were also okay. Wish it had a little less cream cheese as I felt it over powered everything.

I took my mom here for Mother's day. This is a fine dining restaurant with one seating a night. It's quieter and elegant inside. The menu is a tasting menu where you have a choice with the entree. We also had the wine pairing, which was the best part to me. It started with 3 amuse bouche tastes. They were fine and were served with house champagne. The first course was called "lobster agnolotti", though I didn't taste lobster. It was tossed in a pea tendril pesto, which was much lighter than any pesto. It was served with a lovely Italian white wine i'd never heard of: I Frati Laguna. well paired. The second course was pork tenderloin served on polenta. The polenta was heavenly. The pork was a tad dry, with a fruit compote. The pinot noir it was served with was great: Failla. We both had the Beef Wellington, partially because I wanted the big red wine I knew it would be paired with: 2018 Long Meadow Ranch. It was the best Wellington I've had and the wine did not disappoint. The dessert was a deconstructed carrot cake that was fine. The Australian Muscadelle it was paired with was interesting. The service was perfect really. The food and wine descriptions were great. Water glasses were watched and filled promptly. Plates were cleared promptly. It was an old school dining experience that I knew my mom would love. She did.

Our first time here 2018 was amazing, the second time we went in April 2025 was just as good. 3 hour dinner with 6 course will sure fill you up. The portions are not a lot but with all the courses you will be full at the end. The food was delicious and unique. I still prefer the Hobbit though pre-pandemic. The hors deouvres in the basement had a lot of selection pre-pandemic. Last year, not so much.

The Hobbit Where do I even begin? This place is magnificent, spectacular, and truly majestic. Every dish is beautifully created with an incredible level of attention to detail you can feel the care, artistry, and intention behind every course. The chefs here are doing something truly special. This is absolutely a special-occasion restaurant: anniversaries, milestone birthdays, wedding dinners, or a once-in-a-lifetime date night. You will be spending a pretty penny, but that's because this is not an everyday Friday-night dinner spot it's a full culinary experience. If I had the budget, I'd come every week... maybe twice. Dinner is a multi-course tasting experience that begins around 5 PM and carries you through the evening you'll likely be there until 10 PM or later. There's a wine cellar, curated pairings, and an atmosphere that feels intimate, elevated, and deeply intentional. This place is clearly designed for guests with an elevated palate and a true appreciation for the culinary arts and thoughtfully sourced, curated dishes. For just my husband and me, we spent a little over $600 for the evening, and I can honestly say every single dollar was worth it. If you're someone who loves food, storytelling through cuisine, and unforgettable dining experiences, this is a must. You're able to interact with the chefs, the staff is incredibly hospitable and professional, and the entire experience feels warm yet refined. I truly cannot rave enough about this restaurant. I came here for my wedding anniversary, which is very special to me and I have a relatively young child and they were still able to accommodate this alone to me meant the world and for them to be able to accommodate to a small child was incredibly amazing. This is hands-down one of the top dining experiences in Orange County, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will absolutely be returning every year, guaranteed.

We had another amazing dinner at the Hobbit! We came to celebrate my wife's birthday and they did not disappoint. Their service is always excellent, staff is friendly and extremely accommodating. It is like attending a good friend's amazing dinner party! For first timers, get there up to an hour before dinner service and enjoy a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres in the cellar, where you can mingle with the other guests. They'll have a list of suggested house, cocktails, but they do have a full bar and will make you most common cocktails off menu. Our bartenders were outstanding! Food was amazing and flavorful! Each course was on point! If you like wine, I strongly recommend the wine pairing for an elevated experience! We have taken advantage of the pairing a few times and have never been disappointed. This is the first time we have been back to the restaurant since it changed ownership. The new owners are doing a great job of holding on to the traditional Hobbit dining experience, but making it fresh and their own. My only criticism is it seems to be a little bit tighter in the dining area, but regardless, an amazing dining experience!

If you are looking for an amazing night of delicious food then this is the place to be. Every single dish is an explosion of flavors that takes your pallet on a magical experience. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly walking you through every dish. The ambience is soft and romantic. With soft music and beautiful candle lighting. This is not just a dinner but an entire mind blowing taste bud adventure

We stopped by here on my birthday for a nice evening dinner. Got there a little before sunset. There's just something magical about eating outside during a sunset, especially at the Orange Plaza. The restaurant has such a cool look and vibe! We started off with the Hamachi crudo, salmon ceviche, and a bowl of clam "chowdah". The crudo was absolutely delicious, highly recommend. The salmon ceviche was really good but a bit heavy on the sauce for me. The clam chowder had whole clams in the shell throughout. That was fun to pick them out! For entrees we got the lean and mean plate with sea bass. It comes with salad and rice, we substituted the rice for black beans. We also got the skirt steak "bulgogi" which was served on top of mushrooms and bok choy with a sweet soy sauce. They accidentally brought out salmon instead of sea bass, but were very apologetic. They brought out a sea bass on the side and comped the entree to make up for it. Great service right there! The salmon and seabass were both delicious and cooked perfectly. I ordered the Croque Madame. It came as an open-faced sandwich: a thick piece of toast with rosemary ham, Gruyere cheese, and a sunny-side-up egg on top. I'm not sure what spices they used, but it was a tasty brunch-type dish. And very filling! The dinner and weekend brunch menus look seriously delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. The casual, relaxed vibe was a pleasure and a recommended place to stop in and experience if you find yourself shopping at South Coast.

I think the fish might be a seasonal; it was definitely new. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The snap peas that accompanied the fish was also crispy and well seasoned. The steak was good too. The steak pairs with the sauce, so the steak itself is not really seasoned. But, the sauce more than makes up for it. I think that's how it's supposed to be eaten anyway. Bread was mid though. Cute vibes for a date spot overall before or after a walk around the mall.

The brunch menu was limiting, with only a few egg dishes, sandwiches, and breads. The French toast and waffle were nearly $20 each despite the small portions and standard toppings. *French Toast: the worst item of the meal. The bread had no flavor or egginess and left a strange sandy mouthfeel. The interior was so dry that it soaked up all the moisture in my mouth. A poor showing for a classic French toast. *Waffle: the batter was slightly sweetened but felt too dense. The fruit was fresh, although nothing about the toppings or overall quality stood out. *Steak Frites: hanger steak topped with chimichurri and fries. It was supposed to come with bernaise sauce, but I did not receive any. The steak leaned closer to rare rather than the medium rare I asked for. However, it was still tender, and the chimichurri was vibrant and herbaceous. I wished more sauce had been applied, as the dish was a bit dry. The fries were decent, though I would have preferred more crunch. Given the long wait, I expected much more from the dishes in terms of flavor and execution. I was disappointed by how flavorless and dry everything was.

The staff are always so attentive and kind and are part of the reason that we keep coming back. We felt the need to speak up for something we witnessed. When we were visiting this Tuesday, September 1st, a bit after happy hour, we couldn't help but overhear how entitled and rude the table next to us was being to our server. I'm someone that has been working in the food and beverage industry for years, but it doesn't take that experience to see that the restaurant was clearly full. Our server was tending to every table on the bar side including ours and was attentive and kind. The table next to us was making a scene and acting like our server was supposed to wait on them hand and foot. We were having a great time and decided to ignore them for a while, but eventually we noticed the gentleman from that table get up and follow our server into the kitchen when she was clearly in the middle of something. She informed him that he could not be in the employee's only area and to that he told her "Shut up, I'm not listening to you anymore". We're not sure if he felt like he had the right to talk to her like this because she's hispanic, but there is no excuse. The staff put up with too much nonsense here. 5 Stars for the craft, the service, and the patience. We've never seen this couple here and we hope to never see them disturb the peace at this establishment again!

Cocktail the cuff for the day (07/23) was lovely brandy with peaches and some other fruit and orange peel. It was very refreshing and delicious. I'd come back for this too. Perfect place for an occasion. Looking forward to coming back with my family!
