When I saw that there was a bibimbop place that had recently opened up in the Norfolk area, I knew I had to check it out when I was in town! The High Cup not only offers bibimbops, but they are slowly adding additional items, such as the Korean hot dog and grilled cheeses. They also have coffee, espresso, and tea beverages. I ordered: +the Classic - this had marinated thinly-sliced ribeye (aka, bulgogi), bean sprouts, carrots, kale slaw, scallions, sesame oil, and cucumbers; I asked to add kimchi, but they didn't have this for a side (which is strange!) - I ended up being charged for a 'bottle of water' to make this addition; the kimchi came in a small cup, but wished it was larger in portion; I felt that the 'hot sauce' could have been more thicker and more creamier, as it was super thin in consistency; the veggies were super fresh, and this was definitely a healthy-tasting bowl; the hubs really enjoyed this bowl, way more than I did! Service was friendly, and there seem to be a good amount of people inside, enjoying their beverages and eats. Local artists can submit their artwork to be displayed in the space, which I find pretty cool! There isn't really parking, but some spots around the building in an abandoned gas station area. I'm sure you could find more if you drive out a bit further. +friendly service +local artwork +some parking around the building

I visited with D.P. to take part in the $7.57 deal (thanks, Yoonie) and took everything to-go. The owner, Joseph, was so friendly and patient while our indecisive selves figured out what to order. We both ordered the Classic Korean Bowl (marinated bulgogi, bean sprouts, carrots, kale slaw, hot sauce, scallions, sesame oil, roasted sesame seeds, and cucumber). It was FANTASTIC. I love bulgogi, and their marinade is one of best I've ever tried. This version of the bowl for the $7.57 deal is smaller than normal, we were told, but I thought it was the perfect size and hope this becomes a regular option in the future. We also ordered the slushies. It was kind of the owner to offer samples of all three flavors: mango, strawberry, and peach. My favorite was the mango but the other two flavors are on par as well. I ended up getting a blend of strawberry and peach while D.P. got the mango. Fair warning, they're very sweet but I thoroughly enjoyed them. Naturally, I added bourbon to the second half when I got home. We also tried the pastries - a coffee muffin and sweet almond cake. Delicious! The best part is this shop features local art for sale which I could've spent all day looking at. It's going to be swapped out at the end of the month.

Mango slushy $7

My friend and I tried this place on our lunch break and we were so impressed! The owners were kind and genuine people, served us great food, and we had good conversations about their business and the art in the cafe. The art supports local artists and rotate on a schedule! It felt like a mini museum walking through their space! The storefront is right off a main road but the owner informed us that both of the gas stations across the street and adjacent to the store are available to park! I tried the classic bowl which comes with bulgogi and various Korean sides like pickled cucumber, carrots and bean sprouts. The meat was perfectly grilled and seasoned, and the rice was the delicious short grain sticky rice (my favorite)! I also tried their mango slushy which reminded me of mango nectar juice in slushy form. Overall, I can't wait to come back and try other menu items! They have a new Korean BBQ grilled cheese which sounds delicious & is next on my to-try list!

Korean corndog with hash browns (French fries? Lol)

We wandered into the area and went to Yelp to try something new. I saw someone here mentioned a Korean corndog, and my husband was immediately sold. Before making your way out here, know parking is difficult. The side building may or may not have spots, and when we drove by, it was full of broken glass. Not the business's fault at all, but man did that almost turn us away. I searched 'parking' in other reviews and saw others parked across the street at the dry cleaners. While I'm not sure if that's permitted, it's very convenient. Lucky lady was on our side and we saw this establishment was actually participating in the Yelp $7.57 deal. We got a bowl and a canned drink with the deal, along with an iced white chocolate toffee latte (that was just okay) and a hash brown Korean corndog. The reason for the 4 stars is the bowl. I really don't think we got the bowl we ordered, and by the time we opened it, we were too far out. Our receipt said 'Seoul Train', but I'm 85% sure we got the 'Kimchi Crunch'?? It was either chicken or pork, and not beef. I'll attach a picture. (I see the business owner often replies, so if you do here, please tell me what we got, it was delicious.) The bowl we got was still fantastic. It was tender, spicy yet sweet, crunchy, and very fresh tasting. I want to say it was the owner who took care of us at the register. I could be wrong, but either way, he was so patient and nice. Even said hi to my kiddo who was waking up from her cat nap, and goodness was she grouchy. If coming with a significant other who you share food with, you'll want to get your own bowl. It's a lot smaller than what the pictures led me to believe and I was sad I had to share my bowl. Overall, I highly recommend trying them out at least once. I just don't think I'd make this a regular on my list given the long drive with parking, but more importantly the portion size to price ratio.

Potato Korean Corn Dog

Came here with my friend after an event to check out the 757 Yelp deal where you get a Korean bowl and a soda for $7.57. This shop is located at Slowdive which was a favorite spot of mine before it closed. A lot of the charming energy is still intact which was a mood booster for sure. During our visit they were putting up art work which was fun to see. This business has only been open for 4 months and they are continuing to grow and add things which I love. Soon they'll have Alcoholic beverages, cronuts, juices and more. We were helped by Joseph who was super sweet and walked us through the menu and answered all our questions. He suggested his favorites and told us the best way to eat what we ordered. We ordered the Kimchi Krunch bowl which was a chicken bowl with fresh veggies, rice & a creamy sauce. We were also we're inclined to order the Korean corn dogs. I got the sweeter option that had cheese and fish cake and Ashleigh got the potato one. Both were yummy and had a satisfying cheese pull. The Korean bowl was good as well with a great balance of flavors. Overall I like the ambiance and I'm excited to come back and try the coffee which looks good. This place is open late, has menu variety, highlights local artists and has a bright environment. I definitely recommend anyone give it a try.

This review comes after my 2nd visit to the shop. I will start by saying parking on the closed Shell has station next door is okay, but be aware it is a homeless haven. They don't bother you but it can be jarring for a first time visit. The interior is on the first floor. There is a clean cover inside that's lofty and artsy with a cozy vibe to read a book, draw, study, or meet up with a friend and grab coffee. They have a good menu option of Korean bowls I have tried several that your can't go wrong with trying. I ordered a strawberry slush that was good and last time had the Mango that amazing. There are a lot of local artists displayed on the wall to purchase or grab a board game and play. The wait for good is short round 10 min or less, but the flavors are filling and enjoyable. The server will check in every so often and make sure you are well taken care of. Grab a high cup sometime and you'll feel right at home!

This is such a cute little neighborhood gem, the interior is eclectic and welcoming . They support the community by showcasing local artist and hosting the work for sale which the commission goes 100% to the artist. The food is tasty and the drinks are amazing. They offer a few original cocktail recipes that are delicious. The place is run by a small staff who are quite personable and attentive. I've driven by this place a few times, I wish I would have checked it out sooner !

Joe Nieves and his staff were Amazing!!! Their food, coffee and shop were a whole Vibe! We stopped by to check out the place and had a blast! Loved it so much that we ended up calling some friends to come and check it out. Turned out that it was Friday karaoke night, man let me tell you.... It was a Blast! To see folks gather together like family and sing songs, laughing, eating, clapping and cheering. It topped off the night for us. The food was great but the environment and service were top-notch. If you're in the Norfolk area I highly recommend this spot. You won't be disappointed.

Simple eats and drinks! The place was decorated nicely and the staff were super friendly. I ordered the Strawberry Chai and it was sweet and spicy, highly recommend it! The barista was also nice enough to let me know that if it was too spicy, he could adjust the chai taste but I absolutely loved it! I also ordered the Seoul Train bulgogi rice bowl and it was great! It was so simple and so flavorful at the same time. Prices are on the higher side, my drink+bowl came out to $25 with tax. Recommend you try it still though!

Mmmhmm... Their cocomoca is delicious! I love the vibe that they have going it's beautiful

Seoul Train bowl w/ chicken and egg

We had a wonderful experience at The High Cup! The gentleman that took our order has always been so personable and friendly both times we've been. I believe it's just him who runs the show - and he does a great job. The place is small but very hip and cozy. I really like that local art is always featured and switched out. We came later in the evening, so many of the food items we wanted were out. For the Seoul Train bowl, they were out of bulgogi, so we ordered it with chicken and it was delicious. The kimchi that came with it was the best I've ever tasted. He also added an egg free of charge. I forgot to take a picture of the mango slushie I ordered, but it was SO good and soothed my fruity craving. We stayed a few hours to study and will definitely be back. The food and drinks were yummy and the vibes were immaculate.

This place is ultra hip and has an inviting vibe. The food and coffee is delicious, and the owner is super nice. I I tried the Bulgogi bowl and the creamy Carmel iced coffee. OMG it was so delightful! I didn't want to order a bowl because it was 8 am but the owner convince me to try it and I'm glad I did! I definitely will be returning !

My friend and I stumbled across this treasure trove of (literal) trash crafted into art on the…read moresecond floor of MacArthur Mall. We were killing time in the mall before the haunted place downstairs opened. My curiosity grew strong, as I was mesmerized by the colors and weirdness of it. I had to know what this was. It probed me to ask more questions with the urgency to seek answers. The gentleman informed me that it is an immersive art experience. I am a sucker for some immersive art. The seller for me was him being so straight faced and his dedicated commitment to convincing me that he was possibly a resident or may have had a friend that was from Garbage Town. It was either going to be $10 of très cool or a $10 regret. You will be advised to read the signs, which we did and you should too if you choose this mission to visit Garbage Town. Trust me, it will enhance the experience and make everything more clear. It is a macabre satire of the world's wasteful attitude. The world's inadequate collection of trash and improper disposal is portrayed in the installations. It forces one to open their eyes because the sizable amount of trash you're meandering through is right in front of you, not hidden out of sight. Garbage Town is where the rejected and excluded reside, a place where the "no longer wanted " inhabit. It brings to light the social injustices and issues that arise from this "throw away" mentality. There were installations that were quite humorous, but sad at the same time because there is truth to it. Garbage Town is a thought provoking experience that is impactful, if even for a moment for some. At the conclusion, you're left to decide whether you will choose to side with the sheep or the goat. The sheep and the goat are purposefully and respectively placed with the sheep on the right and the goat on the left. The sheep brightly lit, the goat placed in the dark among a red stained wall. It is a parable biblical reference to separate the sheep from the goats. In a sarcastic and facetious undertone, there is a small sign stating "it's not that serious -it's only your future". The sheep and goat are symbolic. Choose the sheep, you choose compassion and eternal life, hence the sheep is white and a light is illuminating it. Choose the goat, and you choose eternal judgment because of your choice to be stubborn, evil, & destructive. It's a powerful statement. This experience is deeper than it looks! Perhaps the gentleman, who happens to be the lead of this project wasn't acting after all? Maybe we are all part of the Garbage Town community, but we have not realized it? You might want to pause for some self reflection. Final take, it's a $10 experience that is in actuality, invaluable.

The exhibit is a very creative way to make an important point. Take a walk through and check it…read moreout. Staff were wonderful, too! There is a gift shop, as well, that has some really unique finds.
