Went in on Thursday evening with parents, sister, and grandparents. Customer Service was lackluster. When we finished our appetizer they didn't take the plates away and when they served the main course the table got crowded quick. We asked to change the tv channel to the baseball game but we had to ask twice, and then they were not able to change the channel and it took them a long time to change it. We got to see the last out of the game but when we asked it was the 8th inning. Seemed to be an issue between the bartender (where the tv remotes were stored) and the waitresses. This is mainly an issue of management (or lack thereof) since staff did not seem to be on the same page. Appetizer: Cheese Bread Sticks: - Comes with ranch and marinara sauce - Oily, to the point where the cheese was not cooked to where it should be - Crust is nice Usually places that serve "cheese sticks" are mostly bread with some cheese, this place is the opposite where you get a bite full of pure cheese. At least it's a better problem but if they cooked it with much less oil and had a little more bread underneath, it would taste fantastic. Main Dish: Made our own Pepperoni and Pineapple Pizza: - Oily, same as cheese sticks - Slightly undercooked (because of excess oil) - Crust was nice, good dough The reason I gave this a 4/5 was because I have eaten here before and my experience was better. Positives: Seem to have the right ingredients and recipe for success, they just need to pull it together. Good place and atmosphere. Negatives: Oily food (easy to fix), and lack of management. There seems to be no real sense of passion for the food they make, which could be a problem down the road. (Perhaps the chefs are passionate as they have the right ingredients, just need to make the complete dish if you know what I mean, but that is not in the public eye) read more

Three tables with people , 5 people at the bar, three had just come in as we were seated by the hostesses. table of 6 next to us food was delivered after a minute of us being put at our booth.. The waitress left without asking what we wanted to drink or acknowledging they we were there. mean time Hosteses kid stood at end bar, the owner behind bar chitchat with a customer who was leaving. After ten minutes we left. I am not sure how you don't actually take at least drink order and send out with the hostess. Maybe stop standing behind the bar and ask if we like a drink, two Diet Coke would have been it. I heard place has sold. To the new owner, good service or any service is better then customer not being helped. Maybe hire another waiter and not have a hostess. Or train the hostess to multi task. The Hide-A-Way it's a pretty good place to go for a meal or cocktails. They have a nice menu and the food was pretty good for the most part. Ordered the ribs and they were fabulous although they looked a little dry to me The pizza was delicious and Cross was amazing although I would've liked to had a little bit more sauce and next time I'll ask for that The only disappointment was the walleye. It had virtually no flavor and I would not order that again The server was outstanding and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice Very clean Definitely worth a try just stay away from the walleye lol lol read more

When we I went in it was nothing but filth. Waiting to be seated so we seated ourselves. Staff seem confused on to what was happening. Was waited eventually (upon ourselves) since there was no "wait to be seated", Ordered the Stir Fry and Rice. The waitress did not care at all and felt like we were ants. Yes I know its weird for a bar but it taste right out of a bag. Have some dignity and make the protein homemade at least. Do not come here. It is just awful. read more

I look forward to the Hide-A-Way with every visit to Long Lake. They have the most amazing onion rings and fried mushrooms I have ever eaten. I try to find anything comparable wherever I travel and dine, and no place as yet can compete with their delicious batter-dipped morsels. Boy has this place growing up through the years. I probably come to the hideaway for more years than I would like to Express. That being said, this used to be a beer joint, turned into quite the gastropub. The service is always good, the clientele is local and friendly. It's also such a mix crowd that makes it very comfortable for everyone. And the food is good, and the spacing between tables is very comfortable. This is good for a couple to go out and have a drink and have something to eat. also, it's great for a group to go out and have some beers and really enjoy some good appetizers. read more

The staff is first class. From the maître de to the chef, and I met them all, they are top shelf. The pizza and burger I had was absolutely in the top ten of my lifetime and I've been from SF to Boston, from Miami to Las Cruses. Keep this place a secret so it will never change. I've lived here for 3 years and was hoping this would be a good place to have dinner and a couple of drinks.....Epic Fail!!!! The food here is a joke. There is basically nothing they do well. The pizza is soggy on the bottom (but does have good amount of toppings hence the second star), the French dip is served on a soft oversized hotdog bun, the fries are cool and mushy, chicken wings are pathetic and served luke-warm, and they can't keep any decent staff, This place only survives because there is no competition in the area. read more

I asked what was on tap as I sat in the booth eager to watch some football the Bartender/waiter shrugs his shoulders and points to what beer is in tap (far away) I was baffled and just asked if he had a miller lite. He came back with the worse pour of a beer I've ever seen. He took our order, gave us our food and puts the bill down and leaves. Never came back to see if we wanted another beer or if we needed anything else. We paid and left. This place is really hit-or-miss. Once, we came and ordered some pan-fried walleye, and it came to our table baked. We asked, and were told, no, that's pan-fried. We actually argued and finally they admitted they had mistakenly baked the fish and took it back to fix it. When it came out, it was the same fillets, just dipped and quickly tossed in the fryer to appear pan-fried. It was awful, truly awful. Before this we had enjoyed pizza, burgers, just about anything on the menu had been tasty. But the ownership may have changed hands, as they are redecorating the outside and the menu has been totally changed. I fear for the worse. read more

Our server was pleasant and prompt taking our order. Food was good. We were a table of 7. The only negative comment had to do with the bartender being nasty about our party taking a chair from the bar to turn our six top into 7 because it was meant for the bar which by the way was completely empty almost the entire time we were in the restaurant. A wonderful roadside tavern! Went in on a Wednesday for $18.99 all you can eat ribs. The ribs were "fall off the bone" tender. We also order Philly cheesesteak pizza and the fish dinner. Big improvement with new owners. It's not fine dining. It's a bar/restaurant. Food is decent and you don't have to drive to town. I didn't care for the ribs but my wife said the whitefish was great. I'll repeat and try something different. The rubs weren't bad just not good. read more

Average at best. Extra star for the cool cabin decor. Ownership changes seem somewhat frequent lately, and its the same GFS food every time. How about someone does something to differentiate this place from the last owners besides getting a new sign. We eat here just about everytime we go up to Alpena, the food is pretty good, nothing spectacular, just good bar food, burgers, pizza, calzones, all good. Always leave very full, with a box of left overs for later. Wait staff is a little slow. read more
