Pulled pork barbecue sandwich
Leo S.

The 4 of us went on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so it felt kind of exclusive. Our waitress was nice and the bathrooms were clean. I believe The Hickory Hog's specialty is barbecue, so I opted for a pulled pork barbecue sandwich. Let me tell you- this sandwich was dynamite. There was so much flavor from the pork, and the barbecue sauce added the perfect kick. It's a generous serving for the price, so A+ overall. My friends ordered a chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich, and another ordered a chicken wrap. No complaints from any of the dishes. I don't live near Point Pleasant, but if I'm ever in the area, I will most definitely return to The Hickory Hog.

St. Louis & baby back rib combo DELICIOUS
Jessica C.

Amazing Ribs! Smoked 12 hrs! Baby back or St. Louis available & the combo meals are excellent to try everything & have plenty of left overs! If you loved the Southern House that burnt down years ago than look no further! Pulled pork sandwiches are delicious & so are all the sides! I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like. Even the collard greens were delicious & finding gd greens outside of a soul food restaurant is hard. Another benefit is it's byob and attached to Gerard's liquor store so you can grab your favorite drinks and great bbq all in 1 spot! Service for takeout or dine in is always great as well. Always welcoming and smiling. They accept reservations for groups of 6 or more. Hope you enjoy!

BBQ Steak Tips - 1/2 the pre-Covid portion at a much higher price

We've really liked going to Hickory Hog before Covid when they had dine in. We've ordered via pickup on Saturday, 8/7/21, as inside dining is still not available. Counter person claims it's because they can't get employees, but almost every other restaurant in the area was able to get employees for inside dining. I know times are rough right now, but I didn't see any "Now Hiring" signs or sign on bonus signs. You have to make an attempt to attract new employees. Regarding this order, we ordered two orders of steak tips, and one order of ribs. The prices really went up!!! The steak tip dinner is now $31! I could see if they had to hire employees at a hire rate, but there's no inside dining! This is a restaurant that is taking advantage of Covid! Just not right. Not only did they raise the prices, but the portion size is smaller. Also, the onion loaf is half the size that it used to be. See the attached pics for what we got for the $31 steak tip orders. What a joke! It's a real shame because we like this place, but the lack of dining, price increases, and smaller portions are now a deal breaker for us. We will be visiting other restaurants now that don't gouge people, skimp on the food and have inside dining.

Rib feast

Stopped in on a rainy day and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the rib feast bc for two bucks more why not get the extra! It was beyond great, ribs were hot and fell off the bone. I usually get the Memphis dry rub but today got the sauce and fond my new favorite. I'm picky on bbq sauce and theirs was soooo good, not Smokey or mesquite but flavorful! The meat was plentiful and burnt on some parts yet still moist. The tatter tots were crisp. The Mac and cheese is wet which was nice. The corn bread also tasty! No complaints here, they even gave extra sauce for him! Also had the pickle spears, nice and fresh! My date had the pulled park sandwich was good. I'm not a pulled pork person but the meat was good and bread fresh. Will be back sooner than later! And the waitress was so sweet and welcoming and checked in on us at all the right times! I also learned today you can sit inside as I used to always order pick up.

I don't like giving bad reviews - honestly. Maybe this isn't a bad review...however this place wasn't my preference. The service was great!!!! That means a lot when you are paying money. The prices are very fair. The place was very clean (which is a plus because it seems restaurants lack this lately)...including the bathroom. VERY CLEAN!!! However, the food was very very bland and flavorless. My wife had the ribs and shrimp with collard greens, sweet potatoes fries and cornbread. I tried her plate and was turned off. I had the wings which were garlic Parmesan and bbq. The BBQ sauce wasn't bad but I could not taste the garlic or the Parmesan. In addition, any place where you don't smell food, you kind of question if they are even cooking lol. It didn't smell like a bbq place or nothing. Although I probably wouldn't visit again, their menu has a lot of choices and I am certain someone would like it. So give it a try at least. Everyone has different taste buds and expectations...hey they might work well for you.

One of the best BBQ restaurants I've eaten at and it's right here in NJ. I generally choose from these three sandwiches, which are all good and big portioned. The Carolina Pulled Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, or the Memphis Pulled Chicken. These sandwiches are from $8-$9. Each order comes with fries or your choose to chose something else such as creamy coleslaw, garlic mashed potatoes, homestyle baked beans, etc. Their ribs are slow cooked for 12 hours. They also have a watermelon BBQ sauce, which was fantastic.

I stopped by here last week after passing by a few times going to Pat's Pizza next door. I got in the mood for barbecue and thought I would give Hickory Hog a try. I was somewhat concerned by the total lack of reviews on here but can safely say I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is a bit small, but nice and clean. My waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a Carolina pulled pork sandwich with fries and cole slaw. The cole slaw was pretty standard fare but a good side. I would say the same thing about the fries. Really though, I went for the sandwich and this is where Hickory Hog excelled. The pulled pork was nice and tender and came on a bun that was just lightly toasted. It was great by itself and even better with a bit of the barbecue sauce that was on the table. I was somewhat concerned that one sandwich wouldn't be enough for lunch but that definitely wasn't a problem. For $8 or so it was a pretty great lunch. The reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 was because, like I said, the sides were pretty standard. The fries were good but standard frozen fries. Some fresh cut fries would have made this a 5 star meal.

From the old Southern House to a space behind a liquor store. Does the job, but you can definitely get more for your money.

You can smell the wood-fired smokers on site! The portions are generous, the meats are tender, and the sauces add just the right amount of kick without overpowering the smoke. I believe there are 6-7 sauces to choose from that run the gamut from savory and smooth to fiery. The menu has a fantastic selection of creative entrees and apps, as well as the typical BBQ fare. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a comfortable place to stop in for a laid-back meal with family or friends. Service was friendly and the staff seemed genuinely happy to help. Parking can be a bit tough during the busy season, as JSBBQ shares the lot with other businesses. Overall, it is a solid barbecue choice on the Jersey Shore and definitely worth a visit.

The Tuesday night wing special was a nice surprise, .75 wings. Rubbed and smoked wings were very good, I liked their Alabama white sauce. Ribs were solid, nice smoke, fat rendered nicely. Spicy BBQ was very good. Cornbread was well above par. Service was very good. Owner offered samples. Cool byob, wood paneling. Parking can be challenging in the summer. We visit Spano's across the street quite often and I had noticed JSBBQ during my last visit. If I return, I will call ahead to make sure they have what I would like.

We were greeted right away from a friendly welcoming man and were seated right away. I had the birria taco and barbacoa taco - barbacoa taco was the best one. So flavorful and filling. The birria taco tried its best but if you want something authentic it's definitely not here for the birria taco. The broth was more tomato base than what it's supposed to be and the taco itself was a bit more tougher than the authentic Mexican dish. My son enjoyed his burger but didn't care for the fries or cheese sauce on the side he ordered. My fiancé didn't care for his skirt steak sandwich too much, as it was difficult to chew. The lemonade was delicious. Service was great - thanks Sophie (I think her name was?). There's free street parking nearby and there may even be a parking lot behind? We saw this possibility as we walked across the street after parking the car nearby. Ambience is casual. I'd definitely come back for that barbacoa taco! Yum!

I had a fun evening of snacking in downtown Point Pleasant, with this being my final stop after Bam Bam Burger and Hoffman's Ice Cream. Perhaps I should have stuck to one place and ordered a larger meal, but I am happy to report back that there are plentiful options in town for all sorts of food and that staying to closer to home will make my summer and year all the better. The onion rings served here were excellent, with a moderately-sized, possibly cornmeal batter. The chipotle mayo was quite nice as well, and paired wonderfully. They also have options for Hot Honey and what seems like a house hot sauce as condiments on the side. The balanced ratios made eating this enjoyable, if not a filling snack-nightcap. Ambiance is unassuming, but reminds me of the late-night grubs I'm used to--they're open till 11pm, or 3am for DoorDash/GrubHub on certain nights, so it certainly fits the bill. I have a high expectation for the cheesesteak as being at least as good as what I'm used to on the boardwalk. I will report back when I've tried it at G-Knows, not to be mistaken with the famous Gino's of Philly. While I will miss the Offshore BBQ that used to occupy this space, G-Knows seems like they're doing what they're doing right.
