Often in the area fishing point pleasant and drive by this place a lot. Finally decided to stop in waiting on tide. Food is amazing, compared to other bbq places I haves. Took only the lunch baby back rubs and Mac/cheese but definitely will take a bigger portion next time I am around Everyone should stop in. Large parking lot, good service! The restaurant is through the liquor store doors (street side)

Second time I order in 6 months for takeout then delivery. Ordered takeout and they screwed up my combo order (ribs and steak tips) and gave me the less desirable half of my combo (steak tips) and not the other. It tasted good enough but was pretty disappointed as we sat at the park to eat. Ordered delivery tonight for another combo (ribs and wings). I knew before I even opened the box something was off. They gave me the smallest, half rack of the small end of the rack I've ever seen in my life! Guess they save the large side for din in customers?? Gotta say even if it was the larger side of the rack it still would've been smaller than a normal small end. The wings were meaty but not great either on the cook and flavor. Mac and cheese was cheesy but bland and garlic mashed potatoes lacked just about everything good mashed potatoes have, dry and bland. I needed my wife's pulled pork to add any flavor to both. Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed in what I got for $30 and $70 total with delivery tip! I guess there's no place to get BBQ around here because I'm consistently let down...

    Pulled pork barbecue sandwich

The 4 of us went on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so it felt kind of exclusive. Our waitress was nice and the bathrooms were clean. I believe The Hickory Hog's specialty is barbecue, so I opted for a pulled pork barbecue sandwich. Let me tell you- this sandwich was dynamite. There was so much flavor from the pork, and the barbecue sauce added the perfect kick. It's a generous serving for the price, so A+ overall. My friends ordered a chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich, and another ordered a chicken wrap. No complaints from any of the dishes. I don't live near Point Pleasant, but if I'm ever in the area, I will most definitely return to The Hickory Hog.

St. Louis & baby back rib combo DELICIOUS

Amazing Ribs! Smoked 12 hrs! Baby back or St. Louis available & the combo meals are excellent to try everything & have plenty of left overs! If you loved the Southern House that burnt down years ago than look no further! Pulled pork sandwiches are delicious & so are all the sides! I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like. Even the collard greens were delicious & finding gd greens outside of a soul food restaurant is hard. Another benefit is it's byob and attached to Gerard's liquor store so you can grab your favorite drinks and great bbq all in 1 spot! Service for takeout or dine in is always great as well. Always welcoming and smiling. They accept reservations for groups of 6 or more. Hope you enjoy!

BBQ Steak Tips - 1/2 the pre-Covid portion at a much higher price

We've really liked going to Hickory Hog before Covid when they had dine in. We've ordered via pickup on Saturday, 8/7/21, as inside dining is still not available. Counter person claims it's because they can't get employees, but almost every other restaurant in the area was able to get employees for inside dining. I know times are rough right now, but I didn't see any "Now Hiring" signs or sign on bonus signs. You have to make an attempt to attract new employees. Regarding this order, we ordered two orders of steak tips, and one order of ribs. The prices really went up!!! The steak tip dinner is now $31! I could see if they had to hire employees at a hire rate, but there's no inside dining! This is a restaurant that is taking advantage of Covid! Just not right. Not only did they raise the prices, but the portion size is smaller. Also, the onion loaf is half the size that it used to be. See the attached pics for what we got for the $31 steak tip orders. What a joke! It's a real shame because we like this place, but the lack of dining, price increases, and smaller portions are now a deal breaker for us. We will be visiting other restaurants now that don't gouge people, skimp on the food and have inside dining.

    Rib feast

Stopped in on a rainy day and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the rib feast bc for two bucks more why not get the extra! It was beyond great, ribs were hot and fell off the bone. I usually get the Memphis dry rub but today got the sauce and fond my new favorite. I'm picky on bbq sauce and theirs was soooo good, not Smokey or mesquite but flavorful! The meat was plentiful and burnt on some parts yet still moist. The tatter tots were crisp. The Mac and cheese is wet which was nice. The corn bread also tasty! No complaints here, they even gave extra sauce for him! Also had the pickle spears, nice and fresh! My date had the pulled park sandwich was good. I'm not a pulled pork person but the meat was good and bread fresh. Will be back sooner than later! And the waitress was so sweet and welcoming and checked in on us at all the right times! I also learned today you can sit inside as I used to always order pick up.

I don't like giving bad reviews - honestly. Maybe this isn't a bad review...however this place wasn't my preference. The service was great!!!! That means a lot when you are paying money. The prices are very fair. The place was very clean (which is a plus because it seems restaurants lack this lately)...including the bathroom. VERY CLEAN!!! However, the food was very very bland and flavorless. My wife had the ribs and shrimp with collard greens, sweet potatoes fries and cornbread. I tried her plate and was turned off. I had the wings which were garlic Parmesan and bbq. The BBQ sauce wasn't bad but I could not taste the garlic or the Parmesan. In addition, any place where you don't smell food, you kind of question if they are even cooking lol. It didn't smell like a bbq place or nothing. Although I probably wouldn't visit again, their menu has a lot of choices and I am certain someone would like it. So give it a try at least. Everyone has different taste buds and expectations...hey they might work well for you.

One of the best BBQ restaurants I've eaten at and it's right here in NJ. I generally choose from these three sandwiches, which are all good and big portioned. The Carolina Pulled Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, or the Memphis Pulled Chicken. These sandwiches are from $8-$9. Each order comes with fries or your choose to chose something else such as creamy coleslaw, garlic mashed potatoes, homestyle baked beans, etc. Their ribs are slow cooked for 12 hours. They also have a watermelon BBQ sauce, which was fantastic.

I stopped by here last week after passing by a few times going to Pat's Pizza next door. I got in the mood for barbecue and thought I would give Hickory Hog a try. I was somewhat concerned by the total lack of reviews on here but can safely say I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is a bit small, but nice and clean. My waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a Carolina pulled pork sandwich with fries and cole slaw. The cole slaw was pretty standard fare but a good side. I would say the same thing about the fries. Really though, I went for the sandwich and this is where Hickory Hog excelled. The pulled pork was nice and tender and came on a bun that was just lightly toasted. It was great by itself and even better with a bit of the barbecue sauce that was on the table. I was somewhat concerned that one sandwich wouldn't be enough for lunch but that definitely wasn't a problem. For $8 or so it was a pretty great lunch. The reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 was because, like I said, the sides were pretty standard. The fries were good but standard frozen fries. Some fresh cut fries would have made this a 5 star meal.

I was worried the place would be so busy we would have to wait, but it was surprisingly half empty although people did keep coming in. I'm guessing so close to the Jersey shore on Saturday night in the summer everybody was doing the fine dining thing and we were surrounded by other restaurants that kinda met that criteria. I have to say I love the entire area: little shops and restaurants! Next time I'll have to look for an ice cream place nearby! I definitely like the atmosphere inside, it's kind of whimsical and fun with the little hilarious signs. But the food is clearly the star of the show. There was a small disappointment as they didn't have pulled pork because it wasn't ready, so I couldn't get the special "Mondo Joe" burger so I'll try to get that next time. We decide to get the special Parmesan fries I'm sorry I can't recall what they were named on the menu I think it was Cacio pepe fries. Those we couldn't stop eating till they were gone! I wound up getting the shrimp Po'boy with the grilled shrimp. the only thing I have to say is that it should've been on a roll that wasn't cut all the way through as to hold the shrimp in place, otherwise it was absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. My wife had the Cowboy brisket sandwich with melted cheese and onions with au jus for dipping. We both had their coleslaw which they give a very large portion of as our one included side. She let me try some of her sandwich, absolutely amazing! The brisket melts in your mouth! I also scored the leftover half of her sandwich as the portions are quite generous. I of course finished my sandwich! I can't wait to get back to this place and try more of the delectable items on the menu. The food really is that good.

Unfortunately, I felt VERY sick almost immediately after eating. I can't say for certain what caused it, but since my dad didn't try my burger and felt fine after his meal, I suspect mine may not have been cooked properly. Perhaps I should have stuck to one place and ordered a larger meal, but I am happy to report back that there are plentiful options in town for all sorts of food and that staying to closer to home will make my summer and year all the better. The onion rings served here were excellent, with a moderately-sized, possibly cornmeal batter. The chipotle mayo was quite nice as well, and paired wonderfully. They also have options for Hot Honey and what seems like a house hot sauce as condiments on the side. The balanced ratios made eating this enjoyable, if not a filling snack-nightcap.
