Delicious and cheap food. Staff is quite friendly and accommodating. Cute lil diner vibe as well. All the decorations bring the place together. Its unfortunately always empty when its not summer, but that just means its a great spot to bring family or a party of people for great food. read more

Second time I order in 6 months for takeout then delivery. Ordered takeout and they screwed up my combo order (ribs and steak tips) and gave me the less desirable half of my combo (steak tips) and not the other. It tasted good enough but was pretty disappointed as we sat at the park to eat. Ordered delivery tonight for another combo (ribs and wings). I knew before I even opened the box something was off. They gave me the smallest, half rack of the small end of the rack I've ever seen in my life! Guess they save the large side for din in customers?? Gotta say even if it was the larger side of the rack it still would've been smaller than a normal small end. The wings were meaty but not great either on the cook and flavor. Mac and cheese was cheesy but bland and garlic mashed potatoes lacked just about everything good mashed potatoes have, dry and bland. I needed my wife's pulled pork to add any flavor to both. Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed in what I got for $30 and $70 total with delivery tip! I guess there's no place to get BBQ around here because I'm consistently let down... read more

The 4 of us went on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only ones in the restaurant, so it felt kind of exclusive. Our waitress was nice and the bathrooms were clean. I believe The Hickory Hog's specialty is barbecue, so I opted for a pulled pork barbecue sandwich. Let me tell you- this sandwich was dynamite. There was so much flavor from the pork, and the barbecue sauce added the perfect kick. It's a generous serving for the price, so A+ overall. My friends ordered a chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich, and another ordered a chicken wrap. No complaints from any of the dishes. I don't live near Point Pleasant, but if I'm ever in the area, I will most definitely return to The Hickory Hog. read more

Recently went to a party that was catered by Hickory Hog, and I was pleasantly surprised! I am not a huge fan of bbq food, especially at big parties, but this was delicious. The Mac and cheese was gooey, cheesy, and so savory. The pulled pork and bbq chicken were moist and flavored perfectly. I don't think I have ever had bbq chicken this moist and juicy. As well, the chicken wings were flavored to perfection, crispy, and not dry at all. I highly recommend Hickory Hog for any who enjoy bbq food, or are interested in catering bbq food. Great quality. read more

Still the best barbecue on the Jersey Shore. Great ribs, barbecue steak tips, onion loaf, and corn fritters. You will not be disappointed if you enjoy barbecue. Prices have gone up with inflation but still well worth it. Enjoy. read more

Amazing Ribs! Smoked 12 hrs! Baby back or St. Louis available & the combo meals are excellent to try everything & have plenty of left overs! If you loved the Southern House that burnt down years ago than look no further! Pulled pork sandwiches are delicious & so are all the sides! I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like. Even the collard greens were delicious & finding gd greens outside of a soul food restaurant is hard. Another benefit is it's byob and attached to Gerard's liquor store so you can grab your favorite drinks and great bbq all in 1 spot! Service for takeout or dine in is always great as well. Always welcoming and smiling. They accept reservations for groups of 6 or more. Hope you enjoy! read more

We've really liked going to Hickory Hog before Covid when they had dine in. We've ordered via pickup on Saturday, 8/7/21, as inside dining is still not available. Counter person claims it's because they can't get employees, but almost every other restaurant in the area was able to get employees for inside dining. I know times are rough right now, but I didn't see any "Now Hiring" signs or sign on bonus signs. You have to make an attempt to attract new employees. Regarding this order, we ordered two orders of steak tips, and one order of ribs. The prices really went up!!! The steak tip dinner is now $31! I could see if they had to hire employees at a hire rate, but there's no inside dining! This is a restaurant that is taking advantage of Covid! Just not right. Not only did they raise the prices, but the portion size is smaller. Also, the onion loaf is half the size that it used to be. See the attached pics for what we got for the $31 steak tip orders. What a joke! It's a real shame because we like this place, but the lack of dining, price increases, and smaller portions are now a deal breaker for us. We will be visiting other restaurants now that don't gouge people, skimp on the food and have inside dining. read more

Our favorite bbq in town. Family run, always have the best service! Our fav dishes include the ribs (love the Memphis dry rub and then add sauce if desired), onion loaf is a must and wings are big and always cooked perfectly. Great fries, coleslaw and garlic mashed redskin potatoes. Also fan of the 2 meat platter with pulled pork and smoked chicken. Of the burgers, our fav is BBQ Jersey burger topped with pulled pork. Really like their homemade sauce as well. All in all, fantastic food and outstanding service! To go and pick up is also lightning fast. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped in on a rainy day and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the rib feast bc for two bucks more why not get the extra! It was beyond great, ribs were hot and fell off the bone. I usually get the Memphis dry rub but today got the sauce and fond my new favorite. I'm picky on bbq sauce and theirs was soooo good, not Smokey or mesquite but flavorful! The meat was plentiful and burnt on some parts yet still moist. The tatter tots were crisp. The Mac and cheese is wet which was nice. The corn bread also tasty! No complaints here, they even gave extra sauce for him! Also had the pickle spears, nice and fresh! My date had the pulled park sandwich was good. I'm not a pulled pork person but the meat was good and bread fresh. Will be back sooner than later! And the waitress was so sweet and welcoming and checked in on us at all the right times! I also learned today you can sit inside as I used to always order pick up. read more

The Hickory Hog - Rib feast - Barbeque Near Me - Point Pleasant, New Jersey

We are locals and enjoy finding great barbecue. We have visited the Hickory hog over six times in the last two years. We are fans of their pulled pork brisket and ribs as well as their mac & cheese. Unfortunately the baked beans here are super sweet and overbearing. The cornbread seems to be lacking a tasteful ingredient and I would not recommend spending the extra money to add pieces on to your order. On my last visit a recent Friday night in September I ordered for pick up at about 545. I really wanted to order pulled pork or the brisket sandwich however I was told that their meats or pork would not be ready until closer to 7 PM. Asked if they were sold out and was told no they're just not ready yet so my concern is that it is a weekend evening and most of your pork products are not ready to eat until after seven. Even with limited hours I don't quite understand why you would not have food ready until that late. We needed to pick up some food so we ended up ordering one of the few things that were ready besides chicken which were ribs which were tasty but unfortunately not what we wanted. Concerning, their COVID-19 precautions there were next to none. I walked in and a Young man young woman and an older woman were all standing at the front counter talking without any masks or gloves on. The young man at the register quickly put the mask over his mouth while ringing me up however it seemed that I was inconveniencing them from their conversation to pick up my food. The other two ladies never put their masks on and were close to the counter. The young man picked up forks and spoons with his bare hands and threw them on the counter which I threw out as soon as I left the building. I probably won't return to this location which is unfortunate. read more

I don't like giving bad reviews - honestly. Maybe this isn't a bad review...however this place wasn't my preference. The service was great!!!! That means a lot when you are paying money. The prices are very fair. The place was very clean (which is a plus because it seems restaurants lack this lately)...including the bathroom. VERY CLEAN!!! However, the food was very very bland and flavorless. My wife had the ribs and shrimp with collard greens, sweet potatoes fries and cornbread. I tried her plate and was turned off. I had the wings which were garlic Parmesan and bbq. The BBQ sauce wasn't bad but I could not taste the garlic or the Parmesan. In addition, any place where you don't smell food, you kind of question if they are even cooking lol. It didn't smell like a bbq place or nothing. Although I probably wouldn't visit again, their menu has a lot of choices and I am certain someone would like it. So give it a try at least. Everyone has different taste buds and expectations...hey they might work well for you. read more

One of the best BBQ restaurants I've eaten at and it's right here in NJ. I generally choose from these three sandwiches, which are all good and big portioned. The Carolina Pulled Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, or the Memphis Pulled Chicken. These sandwiches are from $8-$9. Each order comes with fries or your choose to chose something else such as creamy coleslaw, garlic mashed potatoes, homestyle baked beans, etc. Their ribs are slow cooked for 12 hours. They also have a watermelon BBQ sauce, which was fantastic. read more

I stopped by here last week after passing by a few times going to Pat's Pizza next door. I got in the mood for barbecue and thought I would give Hickory Hog a try. I was somewhat concerned by the total lack of reviews on here but can safely say I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is a bit small, but nice and clean. My waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a Carolina pulled pork sandwich with fries and cole slaw. The cole slaw was pretty standard fare but a good side. I would say the same thing about the fries. Really though, I went for the sandwich and this is where Hickory Hog excelled. The pulled pork was nice and tender and came on a bun that was just lightly toasted. It was great by itself and even better with a bit of the barbecue sauce that was on the table. I was somewhat concerned that one sandwich wouldn't be enough for lunch but that definitely wasn't a problem. For $8 or so it was a pretty great lunch. The reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 was because, like I said, the sides were pretty standard. The fries were good but standard frozen fries. Some fresh cut fries would have made this a 5 star meal. read more

We used to really enjoy this place but something has definitely changed. We ordered take out ribs and steak tip dinners. Got home expecting everything to be ready to eat, but everything was cold. Baked beans - cold. Ribs cold, steak tips cold, fries cold but the best thing was 2 completely burnt pieces of corn bread. Absolutely terrible and not cheap either! Ordered trays of food for a large group and it was a big hit. The ribs are tender and falling off the bone. Steak tips, wings and BBQ chicken were good too. New Location, still the best BBQ anywhere (HH is now at 2310 Bridge Avenue, Point Pleasant, NJ, conveniently located next to a liquor store). Michael's ribs will spoil you for all others. And Maureen will be up front welcoming you as if you were family. And if you're not into ribs, I encourage you to try theirs. FYI the address on the top of the Yelp page is wrong. The correct address in listed below in another posting . Ribs were outstanding tasted both the St, Louis and Baby back ribs and both were fall of the bone tender. The side were hit and miss the mac and cheese was good so was the corn bread. The collard greens were a lit bland. The cole slaw was good but not as creamy as discribed. Also had a bowl of chili this was good but not outstanding. That said, I came for the ribs and was happy I did the ribs exceeded my expectations and the portions, quality, and quantity were all excellent. I will return when I am in the area again. read more

I went there last night after seeing an article on MSN a few weeks ago. When you walk in, it looks like a no frills place with a counter and wood tables. I like places like this because they tend to let the food do the talking. The food was excellent. Our table had baby back ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, corn bread, french fries, sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. The ribs may have been the best I have had. They were fall of the bone tender, and has a perfect coat of sauce and crust on them. The 12 hours of low and slow cooking shows. They also have ribs with a dry rub that I will have to try. The waitress was great and overall service was outstanding. Also, it is connected to a liquor store which takes the bring your own to a new level. read more

Awesome BBQ! Definitely the best in Ocean/Monmouth county area... Defiantly Top 3 in the state. Always good food and now they have a new location on bridge ave, with more room and a liquor store attached! Great selection and you can even customize the style with St. Louis, Memphis dry rub, hickory, and sometimes special BBQ sauces as well ( also- some items you can get buffalo style). I've had their baby back ribs (perfect), roasted chicken, and have eaten their pulled chicken sandwiches which are out of this world! Prices are what worth the quality and a portions.... never leave hungry or unsatisfied. If your looking for sides the garlic mashed are awesome!!! Corn bread is the best I've had, and the other sides are pretty standard/generic. That being said, food is always fresh, service is friendly and I hope this place takes off in it's new location! P.S.- Put in an update for a website and Address change... the restaurant is NO LONGER on Rt. 88/Lakewood road.... It's now located at "2310 Bridge Avenue (next to Gerard's liquors)." Although the new location is better suited, kind of miss the old place! I'm sure I'll get used to it. P.S.- Amazing Takeout! read more

Apps: Chipotle BBQ wings- decent wings, sauce had a nice flavor, did not taste like they were were smoked..but could be wrong. Hog backs (I think that's what they were called, egg rolls with pulled pork n slaw) - egg rolls were soggy and as good as the combo sounds these were somehow not that good. Main: St Louis Ribs, sides Mac&Cheese and sweet potato fries. Ribs were OK. A tad on the dry side and not much smoke. Flavor was generic, as in these ribs could have came from Applebees. The bright yellow Mac&Cheese tasted like your standard fast food chain M&C. I expected better. The sweet potato fries were a lil soggy and did not look very appetizing. Flavor was OK. Service: Our waiter was the counter guy, maybe because it was a slow night. He was very friendly and pretty attentive. Decor: Nothing to talk about. TV on the wall, standard tables. Pretty generic. Pros: BYOB with a liquor store right next door. Place was clean. I've been doing my own BBQ for years. I also attend the Memphis World Championship BBQ Contest and personally know some of the pit crews there. So I think it's fair to say that my expectation of BBQ is probably a bit higher then most. I really wanted to like this place...but OVERALL and unfortunately, everything I had just seemed to miss the mark of being good or great. OK just does not cut it in today's competitive market. read more

OMG-I traveled from East Rutherford to taste their much talked about dry rub baby back ribs. They were truly tasty and delicious. The meat was tender and the rub really was the highlight. Being foodies my husband and I were on a mission to find some good food. After a long day on the beach we decided on BBQ for dinner. Thank God the concierge in our hotel recommended this place, and upon further research on yelp we decided this spot was the one. The Food was outrageous! I'd stay away from the collard greens, but everything else was awesome sauce! The decor was a little cold almost cafeteria like, and for that I would have given it 4 stars but I gave it the extra star because food and service were definitely on point. read more

The Hickory Hog - Evidence of good food in our stomachs!!! - Barbeque Near Me - Point Pleasant, New Jersey

I grew up in Point Pleasant and was not formally introduced to ribs until 2013. Hickory Hog is by far and away the best BBQ place I have ever been to. Does the atmosphere suck? Absolutely. But the food easily makes up for it. I even went so far as to do a taste test in the same day between Hickory Hog and Woodchuck, not even in the same area code. I live in Monmouth County now and still make the 20 minute drive to HH for the baby backs. If they opened up a location in Red Bank, they would make a KILLING. read more

We did take out on Saturday after checking in to vacation rental. There were 5 hungry adults and a 16 y/o boy. A large bucket of roast chicken, small bucket of baby back ribs, pulled pork , corn on the cob and fries and there was enough leftover for another meal. Chicken was best we have had in a long time, seasoned just right and cooked to perfection, juicy and fell off the bone. Good ribs with just the right amount of sauce. Corn on the cob was sweet Jersey summer corn. Bucket of fries was more than enough for 6 people. read more

Barf- there was an onion ring on the floor next my chair.. Other than that place seemed pretty clean. The food was less than desirable. I had the Carolina pulled pork sandwich (which is apparently the top selling sandwich) with a side of Mac and Cheese and slaw. (Mac and cheese) We were told it was house made .. But tasted like KFCs. The pulled pork was served on a soggy roll and the pork was smothered in the sauce, so you couldn't taste the pork. Boyfriend had the ribs/brisket combo with side of Mac n Cheese & Red roasted garlic potatoes (hard pressed to taste any garlic), Ribs did fall off the bone like promised but the taste again just didn't do it for us. Brisket had way too much BBQ sauce.. So again you couldn't taste the meat. If you aren't starving and aren't in the mood for REALLY good BBQ then give this place a try. We left feeling dissatisfied.. BF wants to get something else to eat now. God help me. read more

People around town will say that Hickory Hog is a lot better than Woodchuck Grill. I have to respectfully disagree. The food certainly wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special. Pros: great wait staff, clean establishment, large menu without being too excessive. Cons: Food could have better flavor. The sides don't have that "homemade" feel. Fair prices. Portions are big enough but not huge. There's also a great restaurant.com coupon available. I think we'll pass in the future. read more

first let me start by saying that the fries are the best! i usually get the pulled pork and it is so good. everything i've had is good - i love the cheddar beer soup and the onion loaf. the decor is pretty basic - i think they do more take out than dine in. also the place might be hard to find if you don't know where it is because it's in the same building as a liquor store whose sign is bigger. once you find it though you will be so glad you did. read more
