Very disappointing experience with the quality of the food and drink. The service was very good but It went downhill from there. It started when we ordered old fashions and we asked for a block ice cube in the drink. The drink was served with regular ice and we advised the manager of the issue and he took the drinks back to the bar for the correct ice. He then returned with the drinks that appeared to be strained out of our original glasses and replaced in a glass with the ice block we requested. The drinks also tasted as if they were watered down. Then it came time to order the meal. I ordered a rib eye steak and my wife the salmon. The steak arrived with my wife's meal and the first bite told the story. The steak tasted as if the meat was on the verge of being spoiled. The steak had that distinct flavor of spoiled meat. It did not taste good at all. I advised the server and a new steak was brought out, which tasted much better. My wife's salmon was very good but it was unfortunate that we could not eat our last meal of the year together. Our overall experience was very poor and I would not recommend ordering the steak. I hope the owner, Craig, takes a closer look at the product his restaurant serves and ensure it is of a higher quality. Excuses seem to be the tone of the day for the sub-par product we received at this restaurant. When we were leaving I let the manager know about our experience. All he could do is shrug his shoulders. That told me the rest of the story. read more

My wife and I had dinner at the heights last evening (August 13) . Unfortunately my steak fell off my plate and onto the floor. I ordered a replacement steak and a discount because it was a mutual mistake and I didnt get a second salad, potato etc. Instead they charged me the full price. When I spoke to the manager he said too bad. I told him that we have eaten there frequently since the time they opened. Again the response was too bad. Finally, when I told the manager that I would not return if they did not make it right for both sides he said " if you don't want to come back any more so what". The restaurant was less than half full so I guess customer service is not on the menu at the heights. read more

We used to go here alot in the past and thought we would check out the new remodel. The remodel is great but its the same old thing, bad service. Our Server at 5:30 pm was the bartender, server, etc. They are short staffed as usual. I hate when your server announces we are short staff tonight.....which means your service is going to be bad so just deal with it. The other restaurant in Claremont seems to keep up with staffing. A nice place and good food overall. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. They have bread and butter but you have to ask for it - they don't offer which if you don't know is kind of a bummer. We've been here a few times and it's hard to review. The servers and hosts have always been friendly and attentive and just about everything we've tried has been excellent but we simply don't care for the majority of drinks, their steaks are cooked inconsistently and they don't price their whisky's. However everything else is excellent and always delicious. Their burgers, salads, short rib, salmon, all the rest we've tried is delicious and very consistent. Their whisky based drinks and sangria is spot on and highly recommended. So I'm a nutshell we come here for their whisky based drinks and everything but the steak - and can recommend the same. read more

I'm saddened that the heights has gone downhill recently. We used to love going and now it's similar or worse than a chain restaurant. The interior is dark and not well maintained. We got takeout last night and the gal at the front was so rude/dismissive and couldn't even look at me. The food was cold when they brought it out and tasted really stale. I wouldn't recommend stopping here when the back abbey just across the street bas been proving themselves as an upland staple. I'm not sure if it's an ownership or management issue but I wish them well as things are not looking good. read more

Hadn't been here in years and really enjoyed coming back. My girlfriend and her Mom were impressed with the service and all the food was on point as well. The Heights is a good local restaurant in the Colonies shopping center, near Target, in Upland. The food is good but the menu selections are a little limited. The staff are helpful and friendly. The Restaurant is very loud and energetic with noise spill over from the bar. This can sometimes make for a not enjoyable dining experience so be aware of this . Recommend this restaurant. read more

My family went for my birthday with a party of 10! Our server Shelly was friendly, fun and checked in on us just the right amount of times to not be overly attentive. Food was delicious and cooked to perfection! Best part was when we asked to have separate checks, Shelly didn't even blink! Just made sure we were all satisfied. Oh! Just walked in the the heights bar area, wasn't greeted by anyone so we took a seat at a high top table in the bar area only to to finally be greeted by young lady who wanted to school me that only the bar top was open seating and next time we have to wait and check in for a table at an empty bar. Tonight we ate at the Heights for the first time after living in the area for nine years. The food was excellent! My husband had the New York steak which was cooked as he ordered, perfectly well done- fully cooked but still juicy. I had the Waldorf Salad with chicken and raspberry vinaigrette. Oh my-yum! The spring lettuce was very fresh and generously sprinkled with blue cheese crumbles and candied walnut halves, apples, grapes and celery. I ate every bite. The classic margarita was very good- fresh tasting, not too sweet and not skimpy on the alcohol. Shelly served us. She did a great job and was warm and friendly. We will be back. The only disappointment was the ambiance. It's loud. All hard surfaces- nothing to absorb sound or give a cozy elegant feel. It's not much different than the interior of Corky's. My husband & I went here last night. The place wasn't crowded, we were told by the host there would be a 5 to 10 minute wait for a table at the bar, we waited about 7 minutes she stood there & folded napkins instead of seating us at the table. I asked her & she said if she sat us the waiter/waitress wouldn't help us because she hadn't checked us in! I couldn't believe her attitude. She should not be working in the industry, am very familiar with hospitality. We went another time a while back & it was okay but the service was better! Met some family here tonight for dinner. I ordered the beef short rib and although the flavor was good, the meat wasn't tender and was difficult to eat. The service was fine. We also ordered mud pie for dessert and it too was fine but not outstanding. The prices though were very reasonable. I really enjoy this place. I had the macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi and it was delicious. Served with white rice, a nice array of steamed veggies and a sauce that I could drink with a straw. The Heights is clean, the staff are welcoming and I can always count on the cocktail being yummy. I was in the mood for wine today and had a glass of Moscato. This seems to be an extremely popular place for locals. I'm really not sure why. Let's start with the customer service. It was outstanding! The hostess/greeter was very polite and was trying to adjust to new procedures that they had put in place to check people in. They did their best to adjust to this. When we were seated within one minute of our reservation time outstanding job we were greeted by our server. Our server was extremely Cheerful, very pleasant and did a pretty good job. She did an outstanding job of keeping our drinks filled. I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs and a cup of clam chowder soup. The cuppa soup was very good. It is an extremely small cup so just before warned. I received a full rack of baby back ribs and I must say they were extremely disappointing. I would say it tasted like the ribs were boiled then finished in an oven with barbecue sauce plastered over the top to try to add flavor. They were the most bland over cooked ribs I have ever had. I can't believe they were so bad. I also had their mashed potatoes which were very good. Finally it came with a vegetable medley of carrots, broccoli, and a variety of squash. It was under cooked meaning the vegetables were extremely hard but I would prefer that than it being over cooked and the vegetables come out all floppy and disastrous looking. The food I would have to give a onetoo. The service deserves five stars. In all fairness maybe I ordered something they're not known for. There were a lot of people in there who seem to be regulars and enjoying the place. This is just my review so you might give it a try. Service was incredibly good. They really took care of us. The food was wonderful. I started with a blueberry lemon drop. Scrumptious! The sticky pork shanks were sweet, spicy, and tasty. I loved the slaw they served it on. The Caesar salad was the best. The fries were great!!! May I make a suggestion? The French onion soup was a miss. The onions weren't browned or caramelized. What I really like about this type of soup in a crock is the thick layer of toasted Gruyère or Swiss and Parmesan cheese that usually lays across the top and is oozing down the sides. I know that different places do it differently and this was not wrong, but it was just lacking that lot of cheese I like. The restaurant had a great ambience that you don't expect from the outside. Had a bad experience with the Heights a long while back, but they have always kept my interest and wanted to give them another try. To our surprise, the service was very much improved as we had some very good service with their wait staff even though this was a very busy evening. We started with the Hot Spinach and Cheese dip. Spinach, Artichoke Hearts, Garlic and a mixture of cheese served hot w/Tortilla Chips and Salsa. This went very well with the Heights and Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini's. My wife ordered the Boneless Beef Short Ribs while I ordered the Rib Eye topped w/braised onions & Gorgonzola Cheese. Both very well prepared and very tasty meals. Well worth the price. We were seated at a window, so our view of the Inland Empire Valley after the days rain was really beautiful as the sun went down. Overall, The Heights has really improved in service, attitude and food since the last time we had visited and look forward to visiting again.??? read more

First of all, the food was fabulous. Well prepared and the presentation was awesome. Our service was phenomenal our server. Nick was very pleasant and very thorough and very accommodating ambience. The atmosphere was fabulous and very festive on a sidenote there is a manager there by the name of Cliff. We asked him if he could take a moment to speak with us and to share his thoughts with my son who is a traumatic brain injury recovering adult. Overall, this place is ok. However, service was good! Service- It was good! It was fast and she explained the questions we had on the menu. She was also very nice. Food- Just ok. My friend and I shared the coconut shrimp. It was bland. Tasted like shrimp and crunchy/Coconut bread but with no taste. For main meal, I had the Waldorf salad, minus the cheese. This was really good. Favorite part of the meal. I would order this again. (See picture below.) My friend had ribs. I tried them. They were tasty and fell off bone. She liked them and I did too but in my opinion ribs were really dry. For dessert we had creme brûlée (see picture below). Not a fan. The top carmelized portion was on point but pudding itself didn't have much taste. Drinks were also just ok. I got the watermelon margarita miss the triple sec, because I don't like sugary drinks.
