Asked for cleaning of 2 hats. reshape on a brim only of one and reshape the crown and brim of the other. Neither were cleaned was told they didn't do that which I found odd. The one brim I wanted flatted and reshaped so the corners would be more narrow, he said he could only bend up the sides a little more because the hat was "too soft" to change the shape so he wouldn't even try. The other hat they did a good job changing the crown shape on and I asked for the brim to be left completely flat but it still curved up on the edges some. Ended up coming home and fixing both myself. They also stopped working on my hat to help another gentleman in between my 2 hats, not sure what that was about. Maybe he had an appointment? They charged me $70 for that and asked for a tip on top of it which I think is pretty expensive for what I got. The 2 hats I brought in are not super expensive hats. One was a 10x Baileys and the other a 10X resistol. I own 7 custom 100x hats in addition to several others so I know a decent amount about hats but had never been into the hat store before. I went to reshape there based on friend's recommendations due to being limited on time to do myself or go to my regular vendors but was definitely not impressed. Had this experience been better I might have made them my new go to place since it's closer to home but I won't be back. read more

My daughter has been wanting a felt non-western style hat. She found one on the Stetson website that she really liked. However, she was not sure of the size she needed. She was about to order online when I suggested she call The Hat Store. Sure enough, they had the exact hat she wanted. I had never been in the store so I went with her to get her hat. We went during their re-grand opening. This place was PACKED. It took a while to get help because of the sheer number of people in the store. However, once they helped us, they were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She found the exact hat she wanted and after some "hat education", ended up purchasing the next size up. It was also slightly less expensive than it was online at Stetson. Score!!! I moseyed around a bit myself. They have a plethora of felt hats as well as straw hats. Most of their hats would be considered western hats but not all. They had a very nice selection of other styles. I saw fedora, trilby, Panama, and bowler styles. I've bought a few hats here over the years but witnessed something a couple of days ago with another customer whom I don't even know that made me turn around and walk out. I won't bother with the details but I'll just say that any employee that treats a customer with such disdain and disrespect should be given his walking papers. I followed the customer outside and she was crying--completely belittled by this young guy named Dylan. I wrestled with whether I should write a review but witnessing this firsthand--and being a husband and father of three girls--I can't imagine of that had been one of my girls on the receiving end of how he treated her. I looked at some of the bad reviews on here and see how they have done this to other customers, so this isn't a one-off situation. Any business who repeatedly treats customers like this doesn't deserve my business. I guess if they get your order right it's smooth sailing. If they get it wrong, there's no refund, even when it's their mistake. And then they gaslight you to make you think it's your fault. Buyer beware. There are plenty of hat stores in Houston who appreciate their customers. I was not completely sure what type of review to leave for this business. My husband searched in earnest for a felt hat during the 2022 Rodeo season. He spoke with a lot of folks who told him he'd need a custom hat due to sizing. In addition, based on the color/quality that he preferred, he was told to expect to pay anywhere north of $1,200. He didn't get a hat that year. Fast forward to 2023 and it was nearing his birthday. A quick internet search yielded The Hat Store as the place in Houston for quality and variety in size. I reviewed inventory via their website and knew more or less what I was looking for. My daughters and I visited the store first. Several men were standing around or sitting and talking amongst themselves. No one greeted us nor asked if we required any assistance. I had to approach someone and ask for help. During the interaction I felt as if I was annoying him or keeping him from something more important. I ultimately decided that I wanted my husband to be part of the buying process so we decided to leave empty handed that afternoon. On the way to the car, my 9 year old daughter made this comment, "that man was a bit rude mom." The next day, I surprised my husband by taking him to the store to pick out his hat. I wanted for him to try on the hat and pick out the shape. Again we walked in and several men were sitting around talking amongst themselves. No one looked up to greet us nor did anyone ask if we needed any assistance. I did not want to tarnish the experience so I let it go. I walked my husband over to the hats I'd picked out and explained sizing and shaping. I showed him the colors I liked and explained the difference between 7x versus 10x. Still no one approached us. I was about to suggest we go elsewhere when an older woman came out of an office and completely saved the sale. She was hospitable, informative, attentive and most importantly, she was friendly. She engaged my husband with questions and made him feel special once she realized that we were there for his birthday. I went in with the intention of spending less than $1,000 (given the prior information we'd obtained). Ultimately we spent just under $700. The sales woman who came out of the office completely saved the sale. Her level of service is also the reason why I wasn't completely sure how to review the store. I shook it off and chalked it up to a rare occurrence. I recommended the store to a coworker. He went in a week later and did not purchase a hat. He did however make it a point to tell me that he'd had a terrible customer service experience (not too dissimilar from my own). He said he would not be buying a hat there and advised that I not recommend the store to others. If you're in the market for a nicer hat that requires special sizing then this store is a necessary evil. Other stores in Houston do not stock larger hats and don't have the ability to shape/stretch at the same level. However if you're unsure of size, price, quality (basically needing information), I cannot in earnest, recommend this establishment. I really wanted to love this place but ultimately was disappointed by the lack of quality customer service (not inclusive of the very lovely woman who assisted us). read more

My friends and I have been coming here to purchase hats and have our hats shaped for years and it was always great but something has changed. I brought in a hat that was a smidge too big for me to see if they could put some liners in to make it fit better. One of the younger gentlemen took my hat and literally filled the liner strip with wadded up packing tape (when there are actual products made for this purpose) then told me to tip him $20. The tape did nothing and I removed it as soon as I got home, ordered some foam hat size reducers on Amazon and put them in myself and now I can finally wear it. Two stars cause of my past good experiences but, ugh, I don't know that I'll be back. Oh, he also thought my $1200 hat was worth $50. Not sure this guy knows very much about his trade. read more

One of the best experiences at a hat shop I have ever had. My boyfriend had an extremely old and beat up felt hat that was almost unfixable but we swung into The Hat Store and it was fixed up right away! Upon entering the store we were greeted immediately and asked what we needed help with. My boyfriend handed the young man at the counter his hat and said to do the best he could. Not even 20 minutes later and he had made his hat look brand new! They do not charge for reshaping and cleaning but, tips are encouraged. And let me tell you..they definitely need to start charging for this! I special ordered a hat from The Hat Store back in early August. Anthony and Cesar were a very big help in helping order the hat and also get me info on a 70's Retro Feather hat Band that I had saw on a post they made on Instagram. The hat had to be back ordered because it had a higher crown and a shorter brim to accommodate the hat band I got to order. It took almost 10 weeksfor the hat to come in as the Covid thing had everyone behind on their production and it want any different with the American Hat Company. Anthony called me as soon as it came in and I made an appointment to go pick up my hat and get it shaped the way I wanted. Anthony must have picked me out of the crowd and met me at the door hat in hand! I tried it on to make sure of the fit and picked out the shape I wanted to go with the hat band I brought in to go on the hat. I picked out the old style RCA Bullrider shape and Anthony went to work on it! It wasn't long and he was finished the shaping and put the band on it. I tried it on again all shaped up and with the band and Anthony nailed it!!! I was also in need of a new felt hat for winter. So, while I was there I picked out a Pecan colored felt and Vern did the shaping on this one. Vern has been with The Hat Store a long time and has been shaping hats for over 40 years!! I had Vern shape my felt hat in an Alpine shape with a George Strait Crease I my brim. It didn't take Vern long to get the shape I was looking for on the felt hat either!!! He nailed the look I wanted with this hat too!!! My wife really liked both hats! The folks at The Hat Store are very friendly and outgoing folks and are ready to help you with any kind of hat and shape you want to fit your personality. They also have some new colorsin that the ladies would really like!!! This review is mostly from the buyer's perspective not for any hat services they offer. I stopped by because I like giving local places a shot before going "big box". I was expecting something like Wild Bills in Dallas, but it is not that at all. It is purely a hat store just like the name says. The first thing to know is this is a hat store for people looking to spend at least $400 (for cowboy hats anyway) because in felt they only have 7X-10X, but they have cheaper wool hats too. The prices are on par for that level of quality. I usually get 6X in felt, because that is good enough for my needs. The selection for western hats wasn't as plentiful as I thought, but this does look like a great place to reshape your hat and probably bring a ruined one back to life. I will say the salesman was polite and very knowledgeable. read more

They were going to give me a box of the hat that I purchased. The hat was around $200. The man behind the counter said don't give him a box because his hat isn't nice enough. I thought it was a joke but he (older man) refused to give me one. I was trying to shop around for a nice hat but the salesman( young taller man)was toe tapping and sighing to ever question I asked. My family is in the western wear market( boots) and I could get a hat from connections they have. I only went to this place because I know Molina bought it. He needs to attitude check his employees with a secret shopper because I ended up getting a Stetson Ranger direct from the company. The selection in store is nice and they know what they are talking about but the attitude is not the welcoming houston hospitality that this city used to have. read more

My daughter and went to each buy hats. We were greeted and ask which hat we wanted. We had no idea and wanted to be educated. We were extremely rushed. I can only assume it was because it was near closing time. The crease that they put on my straw hat was different than the one I had chosen from a sample they provided on a felt hat. They said it was because straw creases differently. If that was the case, they should have straw hat samples. I made them work it until it was just tolerable. I found it extremely tackey that when we were checking out there was a tip jar (with the $20 bills up against the side or the jar) and a request for a tip on the credit card screen. I paid $350 for 2 hats and expected much more. I will not be back. read more

My wife went there to get me a Panama hat by Stetson, and it was a little large. I called and spoke with owner who just bring it in and take care of it. When I got there, a wonderful young lady helped me. She let me try on different styles but I kept the one I had. And she got a smaller size and custom sized it for me. They stamp you initials on the inside as well as print a card with your name and phone number. I spent a pleasant tome talking to a customer and the owner about care of the hat.
