You guys, we were SO SO looking forward to eating here. Loved the idea of its being in a historical building. Loved the name. Loved the whole idea of it (did not try the new addition called "The Yard" which is open whenever the Hardware Store is not open, and serves BBQ (?)). Anyway! It was a hard choice whether to come for breakfast/brunch of dinner and I'm going to say we chose the wrong one. We went for dinner and it was, sadly, a disappointment. There is a fashion for char on food and it works for some items - the chef here on this evening seemed to think it was applicable to ALL items. Every single thing we ordered was overcooked, dry, and much of it was burnt inappropriately. I have, for instance, never in my life been handed a very charred piece of pita bread to go with...anything! The accompanying sauce and cucumbers for the satay were good. The burger my friend ordered was nowhere near her request for medium/medium rare - it was cooked all the way through. FYI, many menu items shown online are not on the menu at this time. The affogato for dessert was tasty. The truffle fries were good. The one bright spot - our server was incredible. Thank you, Colby. You were so agreeable and friendly, so helpful and cheerful. You're awesome! Next time we'll try breakfast and hopefully have better luck.

This was our first time here, a friend suggested it. The food was excellent, couldn't decide so I got the Sailors Plate(clam chowder, fish, fries with old Bay seasoning) especially enjoyed the tartar sauce. Our server was very friendly

We came for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was full of other patrons, but we were seated immediately. It was nice seeing artwork from local artists displayed on the walls and some available for purchase. It got the Veggie Burger. It was spicy and so flavorful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I asked for their aioli to go with the fries. It was a delectable meal. The server was friendly and attentive. I cannot wait to come back when I visit Vashon Island next.

Stopped here for lunch after seeing the Troll and Light House. Very casual restaurant. Service was good. It's a little bit pricey. I ordered a BLT ($19), I wouldn't recommend it. They used cherry tomatoes, which was awkward on a sandwich. I only was able to eat half. My son and his wife had the fish and chips ($25). They said it was good, and said the coleslaw was very good. Strawberry lemonade they charge $6 for the lemonade and $3 for the flavor. It's also a very limited menu.

There aren't many "breakfast food" options in Vashon, and this place is certainly out of the list! We ordered our drinks, which took some time to be delivered considering they were simple, and the restaurant was not busy. The food tasted as disappointing as it looks! The poached eggs were overly eat, soaking the muffin... the best part of the meal was the crunchy hash brown. I believe a lot of people go to this place for sentimental reasons, because the food, drinks and service are subpar!

Loved the historic pictures and art in the restaurant. Great atmosphere. Family friendly. Food is fresh and well made. Restroom is clean and nicely decorated. Servers are attentive and thoughtful. This place will be my place to eat when I am in Vashon in the future!

Go to The Yard! It is their outdoor patio area with amazing food options: Smoked brisket, fried chicken thigh sandwich, rockfish Chicken, etc...and the tots are tasty!. Th-Sun. Check it out!

Green salad and clam chowder. The drink was made with hibiscus.

New to town, fantastic service, food and atmosphere. Fried Chicken salad and Signatue Banana cream Pie made the trip over worth it.

They had a small but nice variety of wines to choose from and they paired well with different menu items. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. I look forward to returning. Thank you.

I had an amazing meal here. The food here truly rocks…read more Let's start with dessert. Sorrel panna cotta with fresh raspberries on top. Unlike ANYTHING I have ever tasted. Lemony sweet, with refreshing topped raspberries to bring you back to your senses. Sticky toffee pudding was a contrast to the fresh panna cotta. It was so scrumptious and rich. It's like the British pudding, essentially like a cake/muffin with a delicious sauce. The main meal was mushroom risotto with asparagus. I'm not a big risotto person but there were only 2 vegetarian options on the menu for the entrees so I needed to pick something! It was nice and buttery, but could have used more asparagus in my opinion for variety of textures. The other option for vegetarian entrée was a polenta! It was decent but this place could definitely do better vegetarian entrees! I have full faith on that. Appetizers are delightful - we had the crispy cauliflower with a chutney that was surely inspired by some tangy Indian tastes. The other dish for appetizers was patatas bravas - delightful. The menu is not overwhelming, it's seasonable and there will be something you can enjoy. Parking and seating is super limited so make sure you arrive on a slow day, arrive early, or are prepared to wait. Tip is also included. Good for special occasions. Bring your love, your best friend, and/or your grandma. Clean and cozy. Has outdoor seating too in the front and back.

I wanted to get a sampling of several items on offer. Keeping in mind that the key word here is "fried." The fish and chips were AWESOME. Get that. Perfectly cooked, mouth-watering, best fish and chips for miles (even miles on the other side of the water). The chicken nuggies for kids, a bit on the dry side. The burgers - good. The corndog for kids - underwhelming, didn't like the dog that was used, tasted like bologna. Must get the soft serve pineapple ice cream - OMG. This was something I had on the regular when living in Hawai'i so would not pass up a chance to have it again here - generous serving. Friendly service; however, the kitchen is slow. We sat outside and passed the time waiting. Very busy crowded place - every single party we saw on our outings earlier in the day came here for lunch!

French fries were good with the variety of sauces available at the front. cannot even choose which one was my favorite because all of them tasted really yummy. u serve yourself, so make sure when at the front, u get ready to bring a lot of things back to your table by hand. Corn dog was delicious, too. first time having this type of food in a long time since i last had it when i was in elementary schools Hot dog inside thoroughly cooked and was warm for a long time. must try with the sauces! I love that I was able to exchange the "itty bitty ice cream" for a milkshake. Staff was very accommodating and let me combine 2 flavors with the milkshake. Flavors had classic options, but also unique ones like chai as a choice. the tiny ice cream makes this combo not worth the price because you are paying for so little food. The drink is also in a baby cup that you can refill unlimitedly, but still not much to satisfy the hunger. typical soda flavors at the fountain. but, shoutout to the staff for helping to make tweaks to my order so I could get the "most out of my buck". They even serve it to u, but not the condiments :( I wish that they did orientation to all guests who ordered upfront on where everything is so that they have sides prepared. I do like the color scheme of this restaurant because it fits well with the American diner aesthetic, but I wish that there was more wall decoration that alluded to the vashon island history.

The chef actually called me personally to confirm how low "low sodium" meant. That level of care alone had me ready to give five stars before we even walked through the door. Speaking of the door--the place immediately sets the tone. The interior is modern and sleek, and the entrance door itself is so cool it deserves its own Yelp review. We were greeted by the chef and his wife, which instantly made the evening feel warm and personal. With only four tables total, the setting is incredibly intimate, and we lucked out by having the entire place to ourselves at the chef's table--front-row seats to the magic happening in the kitchen. Dinner and a show, minus the awkward applause. The chef's wife was incredibly attentive, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. We had great conversations with both of them throughout the night, and it truly felt less like dining out and more like being invited into someone's very stylish home--where the hosts just happen to be exceptionally talented. Now let's talk about the food. The first course was scallops with caviar. The scallops were cooked perfectly--moist, tender, and seasoned just right to balance the caviar without overpowering it. Delicate, flavorful, and honestly a strong opening act. Then came the tomahawk--and wow. Cooked to absolute perfection, with a flawless medium-rare center and beautifully rendered, crispy fat. The mashed potatoes were smooth, rich, and paired perfectly with the peppercorn sauce, which tied everything together like it knew exactly why it was there. Add in the roasted garlic, and you get the perfect bite: tomahawk, mashed potatoes, and roasted garlic in one forkful. I'm still thinking about it. Fair warning: while everything was incredibly delicious, this experience does come with a higher price tag. That said, when you factor in the intimate setting, the thoughtful personalization, and the outstanding quality of the food, it absolutely felt worth it. This is the kind of meal you plan for, savor, and quietly judge other dinners against afterward. An unforgettable experience from start to finish. Come hungry--and maybe emotionally prepared to miss it the next day.
