My family and I stumbled in one afternoon, looking for some lunch. The breakfast and lunch options both had tempting options. The Monte Cristo was delicious, as was the hash, and the kids enjoyed pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Our server was polite and helped us get what we needed. I would have liked to have my coffee refilled a little more, but no complaints. The dining room was clean enough. We noticed a separate space with a bar as well, which we did not try. This is based on a quick ,but somewhat big to go order. Where do I start. This is truly a hidden gem. Ordered prime rib Philly and soup ,chicken fried steak, eggs, and hash browns , sunset hash( loaded corn beef hash with havarti cheese,onions ,peppers, and poached eggs,also ordered club sandwich with potato soup. Everything was cooked perfectly, the staff worked well and effortlessly while I waited for the order. Everyone was so polite. Got to the room ,everything was perfect. Far above expectations. The entire order was $62 plus 20 % tip that I added was still less than anywhere I know of. Definitely a must try. read more

I have been going to Sunset Grill for breakfast for a couple of years, usually once a week. The staff is great and the food is excellent. Their new menu was apparently put into effect this week. Last week's breakfast was $12.42. Today was $21.55 for the exact same items I order every time. I understand that costs have increased and I expect a slight increase, but nearly a 74% increase is totally unacceptable. I'm out and will not return. read more

This review is based on restaurants in Gig Harbor. The burger, fish/chips were good. Service was great. There are not many places to go at a reasonable price and I would go back. The fish was not greasy and was meaty. The burger bun, lettuce, tomato, and onion were fresh and made the burger tasty. The patty appeared premade, but good quality. read more

My go to restaurant for all my favorites dishes. It's a place where everyone in the family can get what they like and really like what they get! Everything on the menu is really tasty, try the buffalo wings- the best around, their burger is the big kahuna if you ask me, wanna steak and a loaded potato, an old fashioned milkshake perhaps, they got all the goods!! The server has a negative attitude not once but last 3-4 times we've been there. We keep going back hoping to get a dif server. I won't describe her physically, but she's not the 70+ yr old that used to be there all the time. She had 2 tables other than us. We had been sitting with empty coffee cups for 25 min. There are some mixed reviews, some talking about service because of too few staff but that shouldn't factor into the food. every single service place is short staffed and they do their best. That said, this place has been here for longer than I can remember. It's pretty typical diner food and its affordable which in and of itself should mean a star. We went on a Sunday afternoon after a Christmas Baazar, not crowded at all and we were seated right away. Server immediately brought water and asked what else we wanted to drink. Less than 3 minutes. Apparently you can have breakfast all day so that's what we did. the menu isn't huge but has enough to accommodate most people. My friend had corn beef hash and eggs which came with a choice of toast, potatoes or fruit. I opted for a build your own omelette and there are many choices of add ins. The base prices is $8.95 and then you add from there. I opted for cheese, they had many types to choose from, peppers and onions. I absolutely appreciated that it was two eggs and not three and I got rye toast. Both breakfasts were good, service was good, she checked back several times and refilled my iced tea without being asked. My total bill was $16.05 and that included tax so in this day and age, pretty affordable. They also have sandwiches, salads, soup and a couple of entrees. We don't live in the area any more but its nice to stop by and feel at home when we are in the area read more

The good, the bad, nothing ugly. GOOD: Location convenient Ambiance and cleanliness was nice. ( perhaps they remodeled bc old condition of restaurant was mentioned repeatedly by others.) The scrambled eggs, the omelette scramble and the bacon was done really nicely. (All the veges in the scramble were actually fresh (not canned or frozen) and sauteed perfectly: Spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions. The eggs were not over or under cooked, and the bacon was thick sliced, crispy on the outside, but still chewy inside. They look overcooked but were good, like air-fried bacon is. The "syrup" on the cinnamon roll was excellent, almost tasted like homemade butter-caramel (but not thick and chewy). The Bad: the small (right size!) cinnamon roll was reheated in a microwave which made it incredibly tough to the point that it was challenging to get the fork into the last cooled piece, it cooled so tough and hard. The hash browns (while not overly greasy) were devoid of flavor or any fat at all. The pancakes were not light and fluffy/were hard to cut with a fork! tough. The bottom one remained better, and although they evidently came out right from the griddle, it was the kind of tough a microwave (or heating lamp maybe?) would do. The price? Well everything is relevant, but we paid $42 for two breakfast adding on a small cinnamon roll, two hot teas, and the tip. I think that's too much, especially since it wasn't good. Also, perhaps they need to hire another waitstaff person (or talk to the staff about being kinder), but it seemed requests were annoying our waitress. I requested tea after I ordered and my hubby was done ordering. She said okay and took off before we had a chance for my hubby to say he'd like one too- so we had to call her back- again! (Another person joined a party of 7 next to us after they were seated and after a while called the waitress over to ask for a menu. Then after another long time, when she asked if she could order, she was told by the waitress that she'd come back after she went and got food for another table. She did return, but by that time everyone else had been served. We asked for knives - bc our setting was lacking (and we oddly couldn't cut the breakfast food with the fork. I also had to get up and ask for sweetener after she had dropped off the tea bags, cups, and hot water. She did return quickly when I'd asked for milk for the tea...Seems it would have been better to come by and ask how things were and if we needed anything! read more

We tried this place for the first time recently. We were quite surprised how good it actually was. Bonus that we could get Bloody Mary's! The bar was actually closed, but our server made them anyway. Upon entering was surprised at how large the place was located in a shopping area of various businesses. There was a line at the door on a Sunday about 11:00. Someone leaving walked by saying it took a good 45 mins to get there food. Hearing that the two groups ahead of us left. We waited about 10-12 mins to get a table. Our server was quick in bringing water and coffee w/ menus. We both ended up ordering eggs Benedict, it came out about 20-25 mins. not horrible as it was about 3/4 full. I've been to the Sunset Grill twice. First time I had the Monte Cristo and it was pretty good. This time I tried Philly Prime Rib Sandwich and it would be a 2 out of 5. It was a prime rib sandwich with onions, peppers and cheese. Lacked peppers, onions and cheese. The meat was dry and didn't taste fresh. I had a side salad which was basic with ice berg lettuce, croutons & dressing of choice. It was minimal. Customer service was outstanding which earned a 3rd star. This is a local diner mostly patronized by the older crowd. The servers are welcoming and attentive, and the food is good and reasonably priced. The food arrived just before we were debating on leaving. 45 minutes is way too long to wait and make it hard to support local business. I really hate giving two stars. And the kicker? So we came in on a Sunday around noon and figured we would sit in the bar. A few minutes go by and a woman drops off 2 menus then says she'll be right back. I will admit everyone has their own idea of what time frame "I'll be right back" falls into. We watched her walk past us, sometimes carrying food, sometimes nothing, one time just a hot chocolate. After 15 minutes, my idea of I'll be right back ran out and we left. I have no idea what the food is like because we never ordered, if it's as bad as the service is, I'm surprised anyone was in there. This is evidently a popular breakfast restaurant in Gig Harbor, but it seems to be experiencing some staffing issues. I ordered Corned Beef Hash & Eggs plus an extra serving of vegetables, and the server was nice enough to accommodate my request. Perhaps something happened in the kitchen (an accident or gap in staffing during shift change), we waited for an hour to get our food. The server was very apologetic, and the food finally came just 15 minutes before our shuttle's departure time. Fortunately, the shuttle stop was just 3 minutes from the restaurant. We all wolfed down our food and ran. We got seated quickly , our server greeted us and told us it would be a minute since we watched her carry food to two of her five top tables and then she came to us which gave us a perfect amount of time to figure out our order we got the crepes, side of hash two large orange juices , two kids meals which were adorable since they made them look super cute , coffee and my husband had a bourbon bacon burger which was nice and pink on the inside ! We ordered coffee, first cup cold then finally got a second cup and then that was all. Guess their limit is 2 cups Ordered breakfast for me and my husband, ordered my eggs over medium whites completely cooked. Got our plates: COLD eggs, mine had runny egg whites, potatoes were cold and so was my toast..my husbands eggs were also cold as was his pancakes were so cold they were hard to cut thru The waitress never came back to ask how things were. I asked for a comment card which of course they don't have. I called and talked to the manager and she said she talked to the waitress after we left and said I did not tell her the problem when she asked " how were things". NOT TRUE SHE NEVER ASKED. Then the manager said " it must have been a miscommunication ". She then said that waitress was one of her better ones, that is not saying much for that staff. When I asked fora comment card I did not know I was speaking to the manager at that time. She offered me a piece of paper!!!!! I told her no as we would not be back and she said okay. She did not ask me at that time if there was a problem. If the manager has that attitude no wonder the employees do also. When I was on the phone with her she said I had looked at her a couple of times when we were still at the table but I never called her over. This is a nice little local family restaurant. It is clean, pleasant and nicely decorated. We have been several times, mostly for breakfast or lunch and everything has been great! Service is always friendly, and attentive, coffee is fresh and hot. Our server went over and above to quickly fix (one time) so something came not as ordered. Pancakes fresh are fluffy and much better than the local specialty "pancake house". Great burgers. Good basic American comfort food. The breakfast home fries are the best! The Sunset Grill is our 'go to' breakfast spot! Love this restaurant & the food is always great! My husband & I have been 'breakfasting' here a couple times a month for several years! The staff almost feels like family! Never a disappointment! I think word is getting around as a couple of times on weekends it has been a full house, however never a long wait for a table! When asked about the soup she was happy to let us know the split pea w/ham was great and that today the clam chowder was to be skipped due to being watery. Love that! And the split pea was great!! The chicken fried steak is prepared and breaded in house and done perfectly! Good size portion. The mashed potatoes are real and that country gravy amazing!! Serious here, if you stopping by for breakfast lunch or dinner and eyeing something with country gravy, you won't be disappointed! The boys with us each had a burger of some variety and they were juicy and delicious (I'm told, they wolfed them down). Went there on a Saturday, early afternoon. Place was about 1/2 full. Was seated promptly by friendly staff. Waitress was friendly and efficient. Coffee/drinks offered promptly. Coffee was stronger than you normally fine in a place like this and was tasty and hot. Order taken promptly and food delivered within a reasonable amount of time. We both had the eggs Benedict with hash browns. Eggs cooked correctly and hollandaise was creamy and good. English muffin was also good. Hash browns were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, cooked just the way I like them. Decor is older but neat and clean. Restroom was clean. Plea t of parking in The strip mall. I been coming to this place since 1988 and it's the only restaurant that makes poached eggs right, I like taking friend's there to say wow, this is how you get poached eggs done right !! Great knowledgeable chef's who care...and Elizabeth who we all call Liz is the bright light to the restaurant as watching her work the place is real magic...yesterday a family with 3- kids were getting there order and when she put down the plate with chicken tenders & Mac & cheese the 5 yr old said WOW....and Liz smiled like she made that plate at home for her kids, The Sunset Grill is a special place & Liz is so needed in this day in time of changes, we are so lucky to be living during this time and to have breakfast with Liz (Elizabeth) who is an Iconoclast lady of Gig Harbor....
