The patio was full when we arrived so we requested a table by the windows and we were not disappointed in the view from the inside. Very tasty nachos, too - crispy chips covered in black beans, seasoned spicy ground beef, cheeses, black olives, green onions & tomatoes. Fresh salsa & sour cream were served on the side. We went here once before and had a great experience but this last time we visited it was just okay. It was beautiful outside and had a nice view of the water so the atmosphere while loud, was very pleasant! We ordered a pound of fries with tartar sauce, the Greek Salad with grilled Halibut (dressing on the side) and a half Caesar salad with grilled Halibut. Our server asked us if we wanted the fries to come out first and we said yes, that would be great! Then shortly after, our salad comes out ...before we saw any fries. The server asked if everything looked good right after our food was dropped off and we said yes, but we never got the fries. He then apologized and said that was weird and would check to see where they were. No big deal. Eventually the fries came out. Our salads were good (for the most part) and halibut was delicious. Then I ordered a Diet Pepsi but it was apparent that our waiter had forgotten it, as we were getting full by the time he came back around to check on us again. At that point I figured it wasn't even worth asking for. So we got some boxes to pack up the food. Then as I was boxing up my salad I noticed that it actually had the dressing on it, it was just pooled at the bottom of the bowl. However the top of the salad had no dressing on it and it was so huge I never got past the no dressing portion of it until I was boxing it up. It was very strange! It was almost as though they made the salad with the dressing mixed in and instead of remaking it, they just put more of the undressed ingredients on top? At that point it wasn't worth mentioning anything. Maybe we came on an off-day? Not sure...however, I don't think that we would go here again. read more

We went for lunch. The place was busy with a couple of people waiting to get seats. We looked at the menus and after about 10 minutes the server came and we ordered drinks and water. Another 10 minutes passed and we got our drinks but no water, which we reminded the server we wanted. They came After 18-20 minute additional wait, the server took our order after saying, "We are ready to order." Our food was then delivered within an average amount of time. The food was okay. The Bad Ass burger with a blend of different meats sounded good and different, so I gave it a try. It had vertically no flavor, even with lettuce and tomatoes. The pickles on top were good and provided the only real flavor. And, the whole thing was dry. I was glad I had liquid to drink. Overall, for four of us, two drinks each and lunch items the tab came to over $165. It's in a great location, but the time delays, mediocre food, and pricing, we've decided to visit other nearby locations which we enjoy. read more

I've heard raves about the Tides for years, but never eaten there until last week. It was OK, but my particular experience was subpar. I called to make a reservation because it was my wife's birthday and we were hoping to sit out on the deck, but was told they don't take reservations. When we got there, it wasn't a long wait so we had a drink in the bar. When our turn to dine came up, they wouldn't let us transfer our bar tab to our dinner tab. That was silly. On our way to be seated on the deck, we passed a nice corner table with a "Reserved" sign -- why was I told they didn't take reservations? Someone told me that's their "trick" to let the staff know the table is clean and ready to be used, but they sure didn't seat US there. And there were a few other tables that were obviously clean and ready that didn't have reserved signs on them. The main reason I've never eaten here is because it's always been mainly a "pub food" type of place, and I try to eat healthier than fried food and burgers. But I had seen their menu recently and it had some seafood dishes so decided to try it. I ordered the steamed clams and a salad, only to be told "oh, we're out of clams tonight -- sorry I forgot to mention that. We're also out of salmon burgers, etc, etc, the other things I had considered ordering. So my main reason for coming was now out the window. I ended up with the curry salad and it was good, just not what I was planning on when I went. Would I go back? Unlikely. read more

This came to me as a recommendation as a good place for lunch with a nice view. Never again, it was terrible. I got there around 11:30; they opened at 11. Must be popular with the locals, because the patio was packed when I got there. Not mad about it, because I got a window seat and didn't have to deal with the heat and direct sun, as there's no umbrellas on the deck. The views were very nice. The staff is not very friendly, didn't get greeted, they just asked how many. It was a busy Saturday morning for lunch rush. For a place like this, they really need AT LEAST a couple of Bussers and Food Runners to keep the service running smoothly. Service was very slow, the Servers did everything (except write the orders down). My order took forever and was also wrong because the Server didn't have a pad to write anything down. After all that, I had hoped the food would at least be good, but I was wrong. I tried a few different things, and was surprised they didn't have a raw bar. The calamari was either freezer burned or left in the fryer too long; basically disintegrating into crumbs when you tried to eat any of it. The Chicken Parm pizza was terrible, the crust was undercooked, the toppings were strange; it looked like it had shrimp on it, which I'm allergic to. I ordered a crab BLAT on Rye, it came out on Pita bread (barely any crab), and by that time I had already been there an hour and 40 minutes and just didn't want to deal with waiting another 30 minutes for them to remake it and it still suck. I had them ox it up and got the check which also took forever, paid the tab, and left. Terrible place unless you're a drinker. This place is losing money by not turning tables over fast enough... it shouldn't take 2+ hours for lunch. 1 star is for the view... read more

Tides is a long time favorite of ours when in the area. Busy place in downtown next to the marina. It has a tavern like feel inside and a very large deck outside. They offer local foods and craft beers on draft. There is also a full bar and a decent list of wines. We ordered fish and chips one cod 4/5 and one halibut 5/5. Unfortunately, the halibut was ordered as a three piece, we received two, and waited for ever for the third. Our server was nice enough, but seemed to be yelling at people. Tides is a gem of Gig Harbor. They offer a lot of seafood and other fare. I loved the burger and fries here. Make sure you tell the host how you want your burger cooked. I forgot to tell them, so my burger was cooked well done. That made it chewier and drier than usual but the flavor was still there. The chowder was tasty but I felt it was way overpriced for the small cup. My service was okay but not as attentive as I've had in the past. Next time I will sit at the bar which is usually the better service for me. The ambiance was good and the location is perfect. I hope the new owners do not change the menu options, but I do hope they change the menu prices. $80 for two burgers and a small cup of chowder is outrageous! read more

Super crispy, almost too perfect (maybe a little too processed?), but loaded with big chunks of halibut. And the tartar sauce? Chef's kiss. I almost asked for extra -- don't skip it. Smoked salmon avocado toast? Absolutely nailed it! Flavorful, fresh, and somehow both hearty and light. Would 100% order again. Pro tip: The women's bathroom has the most epic view while you wash your hands -- like, why isn't this a thing everywhere? Sorry guys, not sure what you're working with, but you're missing out! Atmosphere & vibe: Busy in the best way -- this place hums with energy. Oddly, no one was sitting at the bar, which I didn't quite get... it's a great seat! After enjoying this establishment for over 40 years I must say Goodbye! I tried ordering another drink and was told "We have a new Policy that we are only allowed to serve 4 drinks to any customer. I totally get cutting patron off when they have exhibited signs of intoxication, and absolutely agree. This will be the last time I walk through the doors. It's not often I use my cliffnotes to write a review but I'll share the ones I left for myself last time we were at Tides Tavern: "Love this place - back again! It's a must do when in Gig Harbor!" Tide's is a truly a must-do when visiting Gig... we have eaten here at least 10 times. They're easy, convenient, great food, and excellent service. We like to frequent Gig in the winter. For whatever reason, we find it most magical in the midst of the fog and winter rains. We love to go explore the surrounding area and enjoy the food the Gig has to offer. Tides was the first plae we ever ate at in Gig and they did not disappoint. Parking is easy, which is a consideration when you drive a large truck that doesn't fit in most standard spots. The food is really good, we have never had anything we havent enjoyed. It doesn't matter if you are sharing or doing singular meals, it's always good. Price is truly fair for everything on the menu and beware of the drinks. They hook you up! When in the Gig, don't miss the Tide! read more

Great views overlooking the water. The deck was closed for weather, but I'm sure it would be even nicer outside when the weather allows. We had a server change halfway, and I think we caught the first server either at the end of her shift or on a bad day because it felt like our service was a little rushed. The 2nd server was lovely though and super friendly. My wife and I split the calamari which was amazing, highly recommend. The batter is light and fluffy, and The squid is just the right amount of chewy. We both had their Cod fish and chips. Pros: the fish is thick and moist. The fries were fantastic. Tides is on our list as one of our favorite places to grab a meal. The tavern is 21 plus all of the time so make sure that you get a sitter and leave the littles at home. Every time we've gone to Tides, it's been a great experience. The staff is very friendly and professional. The space is large and they offer indoor and outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. You can even get to this place by boat as they have a dock that you can pull up to from the Gig Harbor. You can choose from a large variety of beers, wines and spirits and they have a few TV's that are usually showing sporting events. The menu is well rounded, and they offer a plethora of items to suit most moods, but the specials are usually where you'll find something divine. If you're looking for good fish-n-chips, look no further and Tides makes all of their own sauces from scratch! In my book, that's HUGE! This place is always packed so be prepared to wait a bit for your table, but they text you when it's available so that you can go out and enjoy the views of the harbor and walk down the docks if you like. This was the first restaurant I checked out in Gig Harbor and the food was decent. We ordered the prime rib sandwich, the Maui burger, the chicken burger, and the taco salad. In terms of tavern food, the quality was pretty good and the space inside was nice and cozy and decorated well. The bathrooms were also very cozy and clean. I had read and heard so much about this place and I was greatly disturbed. I found a bug in my clam and chips basket. It was a bug that doesn't fly and was in the bottom of the basket under the fries. The waitress was very dismissive. She asked if I wanted something else (I had eaten very little) so I went with the halibut and chips instead. At the end of the meal she told me she took the fries clams off the bill and charged me for the more expensive halibut. First of all, of course she should remove the clams from my bill! This place was popping for a Wednesday at 1:30pm! Awesome! The wait was a bit long because of this, but fortunately the food was worth the wait! I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and my friend got a cheeseburger. The bill for the two entrees and two beers plus 25% tip was $74.91. Worth it for the view, ambiance, and quality of food.
