Eggs Benedict and chicken fried steak
    Chad P.

So probably about 20 or 19 years ago, this was the first place I ever had an alcoholic drink in public. Many of my friends were younger than me so I didn't get a chance to enjoy with many friends but I had one who luckily could go with me and we decided to start here. So I always remember that and this place is probably been here longer than I've even been on this planet. Randomly on a weekday morning after staying with family for the holidays, I decided to stop and see if they actually had breakfast. It was hard to tell from the website but they do! And it was darn good breakfast. I had The Benedict which was actually really good and completely worth it! My husband had one of their country fried steaks which was way more food than he thought he would get and he was very pleased with it. Definitely recommended for breakfast so far! I was glad that they were open on a weekday as well.

Sat at the bar on a Sunday. Staff took a while to get over to us. When they did, we were able to order quickly. We got joes special, which here has hamburger instead of the typical sausage. Interesting switch. Toast was tasty except for the burnt parts. Red potatoes were good but cut so large not all of them were cooked through leaving some pieces crunchy. DH liked the bison sausage, flavorful without being over powering. We frequent the Time Out so it was cool to see another one of JP's restaurants.

I came here for my friends bday brunch. We had a big party, I think there was around 12 people. I don't expect everything to be perfect when you walk in with a big party and I can tell the waitress was overwhelmed. We are a pretty easy going group though. The food was great and I was very happy with my order. The staff was definitely friendly and trying so hard to keep up with our big table. I appreciate that. The lack of stars comes from two specific things: The first - we ordered mimosas and noticed half the table received a mini split with their cocktail (same one) and me and one other woman did not. I don't like inconsistency. I've been there before and always received the rest of the mini split. The second star missing is because after the food was delivered, one person never received their entree. It would t have been a big deal except we weren't checked on again until after everyone else was practically done eating and that was the first chance she had to ask for her meal in which case the waitress asked if she wanted it "to go" she said - "no, I'm very hungry, I'd like to eat it here please." It came, and it ended up being find. Again - nothing that bad, but definitely a few remarkable items. I would still return, just with a smaller party. I don't think they can handle big groups and that's ok.

New menu items do not disappoint!! Tried the new Rib appetizer and it was delicious! Looking forward to the new wing flavors, fire chicken bites and shrimp skewers!

What a fun place. Lodge atmosphere, nice bar, good service. We came for lunch and the selections were plentiful and portion's were generous. We will return for breakfast and happy hour since it is in the hood. Big Fans!

We have been so blessed during our trip to Washington. My husband's stepmom lives in Gig Harbor so she brought us to this local watering hole. My bonus mom in law gave us an option to eat on the harbor over looking the water or a tavern. My husband picked tavern. Vibe: Cozy, cabin, outdoorsy, casual Service: Our waiter was nice. He had such a distinctive voice and personality. Service was a little slow though because we were a large party and so was another party. Food- I got the Wagyu burger with grilled jalapeños and tots. It was absolutely delicious, one of the best burgers I've ever had. Meat, veggies and brioche bun were good. My husband got the Hi Iu burger and it was huge. Of course I had to try a Gig Harbor Comet Pale Ale and it was delicious. Very smooth and flavorful. The sample platter is how everyone should do a sample platter, bacon wrapped prawns, bacon wrapped jalapeños, waffle fries..sauces to dip, ect. All 7 of us killed the plate. The fried pickles were a knock out. You can buy pull tabs to try to win $, from $ up to $2500 which is such a cool idea. Would have been a homerun and knocked out of the park, except they burned our nephew's Calzone and took forever to remake a new one. Otherwise, an amazing experience and I'd love to return to try other things.

After 9 years I felt like an updated review was due. At this point I'm completely bias so not much to update. After 10 years living in the harbor this has become my only go-too staple. Jax and Sam take very good care of us. The food is 90% good, 5% great, and 5%... I cannot say that about a LOT of places in GH anymore. This is just a classic watering hole with decent food and slow service. Just the way I like it. But really, Costco should subsidize these guys. I have spent more money than I should have "eating" lunch before shopping. I doubt I'm alone.

Hy Lu Hee Hee means "Good Times and Lots of Laughter." The Hy lu Hee Hee is a Gig Harbor, WA local's hang-out that got it start as a Tavern in 1935. In 1958, the State condemned the tavern building and asked that the business vacate the premises, so they could build a new highway to Purdy. The business was rebuilt in 1983, in a new location, by new owners, which is where it has remained ever since. I have been visiting Gig Harbor since 1990, but my first visit to the Hy Lu Hee Hee wasnt until 5/19/23, which was a Friday. Although I arrived before 9 PM, the music was LOUD! I've decided to do a sound check via the app SoundPrint. It averaged 83 dB and got as high as 88 dB, which is considered Very Loud. That would've been acceptable if I had signed up to see a live band, but it wasn't. It was bad pre-recorded music, being played over blown speakers. I had to shout out my order. Everyone around me was shouting too. My server told me this is the norm after 9 PM. Unless you're already deaf, or enjoy the thought of shouting at your dining companions, I recommend you visit the Hy Lu Hee Hee earlier in the day. I have included a video, but it doesn't really do justice to how loud it was in person. I ordered one of the five house favorites on the menu, Fish + Chips ($17) - Breaded and Seasoned Wild Alaskan True Cod with Fries, House Slaw + Tartar Sauce. Compared to all the fish and chips I've eaten in Washington state, it was pretty standard fare. It was a generous portion of fries, and I liked the housemade tartar sauce. The coleslaw had decent flavor, but it obviously been made sometime ago and was swimming in liquid. Personally, I prefer Tides Tavern, which is another Gig Harbor local's hang out, but I'll be back at some point to visit the Hy lu Hee Hee. Next time, I'll just make sure to do it earlier in the day.

    Happy Hor menu.

    How late is breakfast served?

I think they only serve it until noon.

Do they still have a family eating area? I used to go quite a bit about 15-20 yrs ago for dinner with my parents and little daughter.

But why come to this specific location in Gig Harbor? Two names... Alena and Tiffany. I come here because I travel up and down the I-5 corridor weekly for work. Tuesday- Thursday I stay In hotels and the company buys me dinner. When I'm In Gig Harbor, I come here. For the atmosphere created by the staff. Don't get me wrong I gave you two names because they are who I remember best, trust me you will too! But I don't want to leave the rest of the team out, but I sit at the bar, grab a beer, order my food and watch tv. Just like I would if I was home, but I'm not at home.... So why do I feel like I am? Because of the people who work at this particular location!! They are a close knit group, you can tell they like each other. How you ask? Trust me, just come visit and listen to the laughter and see the smiles. See the way the regulars talk to them and ask follow up questions from their last visits, watch the staff reciprocate. Ya it's an American chain restaurant, but seriously because of people like those mentioned by name above, it's so much more. Our group of about 15 visited for a birthday celebration , it was the first visit for most of us. From the start, our server Charlie went above and beyond. She was attentive, polite, and genuinely friendly. Despite clearly juggling multiple tables, she handled everything with professionalism delivering food, clearing tables, and ensuring everyone had what they needed. We were there from around 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., and throughout that time, it was clear Charlie was doing the majority of the work on the floor. Unfortunately, another staff member seemed less engaged, often on his phone or chatting rather than helping. It created a noticeable contrast in effort. I spoke with the bartender, who turned out to be the manager, to praise Charlie's outstanding service. He agreed, calling her his "superstar," and acknowledged the issue I mentioned with the other employee. As for the food, it was decent, though the wait for six pizzas was nearly an hour. Overall, the experience was made enjoyable because of Charlie's exceptional service. She truly stood out and represented the restaurant in the best possible way. I hope management recognizes her hard work, she's a real asset to the team.
