    Americano and a scone
    Kristian U.

This place used to be an oddly named Pie shop... that didn't serve pies, like ever, so I never really went to visit them. Then recently, as I'm made to understand, the owner sold the business to his staff who revamped the place and renamed it, The Happy Bakers (Cafe and Bakery). The emphasis now is on good coffee and amazing baked goods. And the goods are DAMN GOOD - let me tell you. Fresh off a strict diet I am in my fat kid element getting a scone to go with my daily Americano. Best of all, for a remote working guy like me, there is wifi (you need to ask) and it's seldom very busy at all. They have a variety of baked goods but their standout has to be the unique daily selection of scones. Yumm! So far I've had a pecan/chocolate chip and then today a carrot flavoured muffin jam packed with nuts, seeds and berries. The also have some limited savoury eats (potentially more to come) but for now it's catering to the local school kids who stop by, and there is macNcheese (but like real stuff) and paninni pressed grilled cheese sandwiches. It's a simple place, its cozy, and friendly and the staff/owners love what they do (you can tell), so the business name is more than appropriate. Catch me here weekdays getting baked (goods) Eatcrest Out.

The happy baker has the most amazing baked goods! I always try to catch them at the Montgomery inn farmers market or at their location on lakeshore. The candied pecans are a great addition to any cheese board, perfectly sweet. The peanut butter cookies and fiber molasses cookies are just so delicious you will want to eat the whole bag. The only critique is that they are little pricey for baked good. Other than that I would recommend checking them out.

The Happy Bakers bought out the bakery that was previously at this location, and I was excited to go in and see what they have to offer because they're within comfortable walking distance from my home and very near the local library, so I like to stop in sometimes with my kids for an after-school treat. I spoke with an employee who reported that the "new" bakery is owned by an employee of the previous incarnation, and the purchase included the old bakery's recipes. That is to say, not much has changed here except the beautiful new signage outdoors. On our most recent visit, we purchased a reasonably-priced bag of chocolate chip cookies to bring to a park play date. The kids devoured them, and the few bites I managed to snag were tasty; slightly crisp but not hard, buttery and not overly sweet. My issue with this bakery is that the shelves are usually barren. I understand that they do a good commercial business, shipping to markets and such, but they don't seem to leave much for the local storefront patrons. We'll continue to visit out of convenience, but they're nowhere near my favourite local bakery.

I know this is a shaved ice…read more/ specifically a bingsu place and I say as a big shaved ice fan that this is probably the best bingsu I have had outside of my Korea. Given that I have not been to Korea in approximately a decade (excluding the airport), it may be the best bingsu I can remember ever having. We got to try the matcha affogato, persimmon bingsu, and the injeolmi bingsu. I learned what an affogato was for the first time (they pour espresso into ice cream, so this was matcha poured into matcha ice cream) and that was yum but not what I would come back for. It also becomes soup lol. The stars of the show are the bingsu. In my many years eating shaved ice in various places, I have never had a persimmon bingsu and I am so glad that I got to try it. The persimmon flavor was light but delicious. Of the three other people here, this was their favorite. I loved this one but my favorite was the injeolmi - a lot of it is more milky because the injeolmi powder is at the top but I loved that. The texture of this bingsu was excellent - we all marveled at it. The cornflakes throughout were a stroke of genius. I love this place and lol I am not kidding, this place might be the reason I plan my next trip to Toronto. I am half kidding I guess but it would very much be a factor. Run, don't walk to this place.

Delicious desserts, waffles ice cream, smoothies, and more. We ordered: Medium Mango Smoothie - $7.95 Simple Pleasures Waffle - $15.50 The waffle was light and fluffy and the toppings of fruit and chocolate were a great combination. I requested to be lighter on the chocolate but there was still a LOT of chocolate on our waffle. The mango smoothie was refreshing and sweet. I started going to Holy Choco when they first opened and their service was really good from some of the owner. Super attentive and caring staff. Unfortunately, it's since gone downhill since they've hired new staff and we had a number of small problems when visiting this time (dirty tables, dirty cutlery, requested if our food could be put in to go containers because they didn't want to do dishes, unfriendly, etc.) I hope they improve upon these staffing issues soon. Their seating area is good for friends and groups to loiter. Also, if you plan on bringing a laptop, they have MANY OUTLETS!!

For items: we chose strawberry, banana, halal marshmallow, waffle bites, brownie bites, and Oreo with a round of cappuccino's ($5.50 each). The interior is nicely decorated with a cute angel photo op in the back, and window bar seats and couches to choose from. Great spot for 2-4 people. The only criticism I could have was it took a while to get our order. So, it's not one of those places you can be dipping into expecting to be done in 20mins! We stayed for nearly 3 hours and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
