Wow. Times have changed. I LOVE Fred's so I'm sad to report this, but they've lost me. Just…read morepurchased almost 12 lbs. of picanha for $14.99 a pound. I asked for the four plates to be cut into steaks which I've done on occasion when feeling lazy on 10lb+ orders, but this time seemed different and they kept all the points -- the plate is a triangle. I didn't realize that they'd keep so much of the "trimmings" so I went from 11.88lbs to just over 9 which means they kept just over 2.5 lbs which presumably goes into their ground beef. Works out to $20 a lb for me. I did have a pleasant FB messenger conversation with someone, but I've been a member at Costco for 20 years (kept my membership active) so I'll be going back to them full time. My advice to customers. Ask for the trimmings if you're asking them to butcher any meat product. Especially picahna which is super easy to do. My advice to Fred's. Ask the customers if they want the trimmings.

I have driven by Dnipro many times but finally went in. First, I saw a menu featuring lunch specials. Among them pirogies, stuffed cabbage and borscht. I went for a bowl of borscht and it was delicious. A vegetable filled version, it was tangy and slightly sweet with big chunks of potato. Next I saw candy, lots and lots of it. Plenty of intriguing small filled chocolates with artistic wrappers. I bought lots. I love the surprise of discovering what type of filling they have. I've never been brave enough to try it but it seems to be a staple at Eastern European delis. I saw pastries but went for a loaf of bread this time. The friendly man at the counter told me that the bread is started in Germany and then finished here. German bread!!! Heck yes!! I'll take it. Germans are certainly known for delicious bread and this is no exception. The loaf I chose was a mix of rye and other flours. It was crusty on the outside and light on the inside with a delicate flavor. It was freshly baked and still warm. Perfect to dip into the borscht. My next treasure was chopped chicken liver. It's one of the foods you either love or hate. I have long loved it since my days as a Platt's deli girl. This is a fantastic version! Sweet and soft. I spread some of this on the bread too, heaven!! The service was attentive and personable. The bread alone is reason to go back but I also look forward to trying other lunch specials. The prices are fair as well.
