The sign that says open 24 hours.
    Brad K.

So the Grill reopened and we were all very excited. This is someplace that we went to all the time when we were in school here in Athens so long ago. If we're talking about the food, I would've given it a four. I got a burger with their famous feta fries and a chocolate shake, and brought it home. While the fries the cut were a little bit different, the taste was the same as they're using the same oil. The burger tasted exactly like it did so many years ago when we were in college. And the shake was delicious as well. When I take a star away for is the overall service of the people that work there and their attitudes. The Grill has always been staffed by a more counterculture and alternative local type employee. You didn't really see fraternity and sorority people working there. It was more of a local place. That being said, when I called up to get some burgers, they told me they won't take a order over the phone that would have to come down and pay for it. Wait around and then pick it up. I'm a busy Friday or Saturday night that can be difficult because of Parking. But we went down it was a game day weekend so lots of money to be had and the sign says 24 hours. When I got there, I would say about 1230, 1245 there other people waiting and we're confused as well. The staff said that they were done for the night And they weren't taking any more orders. There was no manager to talk to, and we wanted to order several combos which to me would've been a chance for more money and revenue as well as tips to the staff. As I've seen in other reviews, the staff is not attentive, several of them are outside a lot smoking or on their phones and wait times can be long. If you're going to advertise that you're open 24 hours then be open 24 hours. Why they're not open on a Sunday when they can get so much business from brunch people going downtown doing the shopping coming into town doing the shopping and then make more money on brunch. They could change their days and be open Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday. Not sure what the thought processes. The prices aren't exactly cheap so if this is how they want to conduct their business and continue to do their business, they're gonna lose business. It's sad because we love to bring our friends and the new generation of college kidsto such a great old restaurant, especially when so many old restaurants in old Staples in Athens are closing and going away.

We stopped in the grill to get a quick bite to eat while we were visiting Athens Georgia. The burgers and fries were just OK you know the atmosphere the place is kind of small hand not the best but it's an average OK place to stop if your hungry

    Burnt beyond recognition. CRUNCHY????
    Trey H.

What has happened to The Grill? Second time in the last several weeks that we picked up our order only to find charred, burnt carcasses of roadkill beef! My Pepper Supreme burger was crunchy, something no burger should ever be. My wife's Swiss Burger was not only charred and crunchy but was crumbling due to being overcooked beyond recognition of beef or even rawhide. I called and spoke with "The Hostess" and complained about the poor quality of the food only to get "sorry" and nothing else. A waste of forty dollars. We've eaten at the grill for over thirty years but have to seriously question whether to go back between the food and the attitude might as well just go to Five Guys.

Great place to grab breakfast. Fast service. Friendly staff. The grits wasn't cooked completely; but other than that, the meals were delicious. Definitely try an omelet. Metered parking.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.

They don't really work for a cheeseburger. It is still a damned good burger. The only real problem is that it will occupy too much room in my stomach that could otherwise be filled with garlic fries. Thus is my pain when recounting our visit to Mama's Boy. We stopped here for breakfast before heading out of town on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September. Prior to visiting, I read that the wait here can be a bit intimidating but we lucked out coming on a day when there was an away football game which I think took some folks out of town as we only had to wait about 20-25 minutes. It's a casual joint where you order at the counter (but only after you've been given a table) and the food is bangin'. I was not playing it healthy here, going for the Truck Stop Biscuits & Gravy which was a biscuit topped with sausage gravy, sweet tea brined fried chicken, and topped with scrambled eggs. For my side I went with grits (because when in the south!) and of course I had a refreshing strawberry lemonade to wash it all down with. Everything was excellent. The biscuit was fluffy, the chicken was juicy, the gravy was flavorful...and it was all perfect together. And the grits were so rich and smooth and so very tasty! It was casual service but everyone who we encountered was really lovely. Bless the mama's boys of the world for bringing us such a delicious dining experience!

I stopped at Brett's Casual American with my service dog, Stormy. The server was excellent -- respectful, professional, and even asked before petting her. He mentioned he used to foster Dobermans growing up, and he clearly understood how to behave around a working dog. The issue was with the owner. He demanded to see "papers," insisted Stormy needed a vest with a visible ID tag, and told me I was "harassing his staff," even though the staff had been nothing but kind. For anyone who doesn't know: under the ADA, businesses cannot require documentation, certification, or specific gear. They can only ask two questions: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability What task the dog is trained to perform What crossed the line for me was when he reached out and touched Stormy without permission. I walked out immediately. Touching a working service dog is not only inappropriate -- it interferes with medical equipment and puts the handler at risk. It felt like a personal violation, not just a misunderstanding. Most people in Athens are great about this, and I really appreciated the server who handled everything correctly. I'm sharing this so neighbors are aware of the proper etiquette and to help prevent situations like this in the future.
