So the Grill reopened and we were all very excited. This is someplace that we went to all the time when we were in school here in Athens so long ago. If we're talking about the food, I would've given it a four. I got a burger with their famous feta fries and a chocolate shake, and brought it home. While the fries the cut were a little bit different, the taste was the same as they're using the same oil. The burger tasted exactly like it did so many years ago when we were in college. And the shake was delicious as well. When I take a star away for is the overall service of the people that work there and their attitudes. The Grill has always been staffed by a more counterculture and alternative local type employee. You didn't really see fraternity and sorority people working there. It was more of a local place. That being said, when I called up to get some burgers, they told me they won't take a order over the phone that would have to come down and pay for it. Wait around and then pick it up. I'm a busy Friday or Saturday night that can be difficult because of Parking. But we went down it was a game day weekend so lots of money to be had and the sign says 24 hours. When I got there, I would say about 1230, 1245 there other people waiting and we're confused as well. The staff said that they were done for the night And they weren't taking any more orders. There was no manager to talk to, and we wanted to order several combos which to me would've been a chance for more money and revenue as well as tips to the staff. As I've seen in other reviews, the staff is not attentive, several of them are outside a lot smoking or on their phones and wait times can be long. If you're going to advertise that you're open 24 hours then be open 24 hours. Why they're not open on a Sunday when they can get so much business from brunch people going downtown doing the shopping coming into town doing the shopping and then make more money on brunch. They could change their days and be open Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday. Not sure what the thought processes. The prices aren't exactly cheap so if this is how they want to conduct their business and continue to do their business, they're gonna lose business. Which just kinda ruined the whole thing. Idk wth the issue was, but if I wasn't with such a large party, I would have paid for my fries and left after 15 minutes of waiting. Just unreasonable. This restaurant has left me speechless. We walk in not crowded.. but after 20 minutes of waiting nobody has come to help that's weird? Finally we order and wait almost another hour. Food is piling up in the kitchen, the workers look distraught, fries are being dropped, it is chaos. What has happened to The Grill? Second time in the last several weeks that we picked up our order only to find charred, burnt carcasses of roadkill beef! My Pepper Supreme burger was crunchy, something no burger should ever be. My wife's Swiss Burger was not only charred and crunchy but was crumbling due to being overcooked beyond recognition of beef or even rawhide. I called and spoke with "The Hostess" and complained about the poor quality of the food only to get "sorry" and nothing else. A waste of forty dollars. I had not been to The Grill since college and wondered how I would still like it. Well, I still like it! I went just before noon (after the UGA semester was over, so it was not too crowded). I ordered an Impossible burger with fries. Everything was hot. The burger bun was toasted and the grilled onions were just right (not oily). The fries are cut differently (smaller) but were perfectly crispy and plentiful. They had the skin on, which I like. The iced tea was good, and the host and waitress could not have been nicer. I've never had worse service in my entire life. We were forced to wear masks, even though no other places were requiring them. I got up to ask where the bathroom was, she said "Put your mask on" and wouldn't tell me where the bathroom was until I did. We waited about 10-12 minutes for a server. We ordered our food, and a different server brought our food, and a different one for our check. They were all extremely rude and acted like we were causing a problem. It was my friend and I. Bad looks all around. The host started an argument with an older gentlemen because he didn't have a mask. They basically block the doorway to make sure you're wearing a mask. I am a server myself, I've had rough nights. But this wasn't a "rough night". Everyone acted like they had no idea what they were doing and were just not doing their job! One of the worst dining experiences. Family of 4, we waited about 40 min to be seated which was about average. So no big deal there. However, once we were seated, it took 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink orders (3 sweet teas and 1 sprite). Then it took another 15 minutes for the 1 sprite and an unsweetened tea to be brought out and for them to then tell us that they were out of sweet tea. We placed another drink order (cokes) only having to wait yet again for them to be brought out. It took an hour just to get our food ordered. An hour and a half to get the food with no drink refills in between until we asked where our food was. We watched 3 other tables come in after us, get their food, and pay their bill. The food was average in taste and quality. I had the mushroom Swiss burger. My sons burger bun was burnt black on one side. My other son fell asleep in my lap waiting for his food, of which didn't even come out with the fries that was listed on the menu as part of the kids meal. The bathroom was horrible. Dirty and nasty with overrunning trash. Waitresses were walking around in circles looking confused like they didn't know what was going on. It was one of the oddest things I've ever watched. One of the waitresses was hanging out by the cash register talking to the cashier like she had nothing better to do. We were told "sorry about the wait, it's just really busy in here." One table walked out when their drinks were brought out to their table because it was taking so long to serve them too. We overheard several tables complaining about the wait. And then after all that, our waitress came out at the end after we were finished eating and asked if we wanted a refill with sweet tea! Poor service, average food quality, lack of cleanliness. The 2 1/2 stars pretty much sums this place up. I'll give a brief synopsis: I've worked in a restaurant, so I'm naturally a patient patron, and I don't complain. I'm also here on a game day and no one has employees for covid, etc. so I'm extra patient, butttt my table and I waited an astronomically long time for our food, and not just that, this whole place was in the weeds. Apparently everyone on staff was new (according to the host). Or maybe they say this every night? Anyway, it was almost comical at how everything went awry. I will say our waitress was sweet but just not the right fit for this line of work. The place wasn't slammed, but there were jobs to be done, and we observed two different servers or cooks just hanging out on the barstools while obviously other things could be getting done. I can't even go into the myriad examples of the frustrating string of events, but overall, if you want to wait and wait and wait and wait and then pay for mediocre food at the counter (where the girl literally apologized she didn't see us bc she was watching vampire diaries) and service come here! All for 9.49, from what I can vaguely remember... The burger was ok, nothing special, other than the bacon. The meat was a little overcooked, as I prefer my burger juicy and a little pinker, but she didn't ask us how we liked our burgers. The crinkle fries were made in house, freshly cut and cooked, which were awesome! And drenched in ketchup, so I couldn't complain. This classic little diner had food options beyond belief, varying from breakfast to sandwiches to burgers and milkshakes. There's something for everyone! Worst service I have ever had at any restaurant. Got carded for a beer when I ordered - and then the manager made it a point to ask me for ID again in a nasty tone when the beer was served. I am 61 years old - it's not like there was any question as to whether or not I was of age. When I asked why I was carded twice, the manager got completely nasty and threatened to call the police. Just for asking a question. Then got into a stare down with me when I let him know I did not appreciate his attitude. The wait staff all have excessive piercings and tattoos and quite frankly they all look like they have not washed their hair - or taken a bath - in weeks. They took great joy in harassing any group that looked halfway normal and would not let anyone in that was not wearing a mask for the 8 foot walk from the front door to the table. Never mind that I noticed that several of the staff wore their masks sporadically. Definitely they are trying to make a statement - families and normal people are NOT welcome. The staff at this place is too rude, nasty, and woke to worry about actually serving their customers and earning a profit. I can't see this place surviving much longer. When we arrived, they had two tables occupied - on the first Friday night of the fall UGA semester! Every other restaurant in the area was jam packed - all with waits of an hour or more. We are in town for a conference and on the road for about five hours, so we were looking for someplace to eat before going back to our hotel room. The front desk girl at the hotel suggested that we try this place. It looks just like an old 50s diner with a neon sign out front. As you enter there are white tile walls with black booths to sit in. They have a lot of old metal signs decorating the walls and counter style seating towards the back of the restaurant. The Decour really does take you back in time. The gentleman that waited on us was very friendly and attentive. He checked on us often to make sure we did not need anything and that our drinks were full. I ordered a Smurf Burger, which had blue cheese on it, and it was amazing! The burgers are cooked to order and they are real meat not a patty. And their fries are hand cut and salted perfectly! I really enjoyed the meal I got from here I would recommend trying this if ever you are in Athens Georgia. read more

NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. Worst experience in a restaurant in my entire life, that's no exaggeration either. The entire HOUR we waited on our food the staff was playing egregious music that was very inappropriate for a restaurant. One of the songs they played was a jazz remix of the song WAP. It was incredibly awkward because there were multiple families in the restaurant listening to a man sing about "wet ass p*ssy" over the loud speaker in an off-tune monotone voice. After that song, they played 'Wake me up inside' remixed by Elmo, it was all unbearably loud, degrading, and very inappropriate. Im not lying to you when I say that it was probably one of the most awkward and bizarre experiences of my life. Multiple people got up and left in the middle of their meals, multiple people were very upset and complained about it to the staff. I took a video of the experience and I wish I could post it on here so you can see how insufferable it was. Food quality was decent but you could literally get something from Wendy's and it would be on par with what I ordered. No. Just no. Tonight my friend was served raw hamburger meat. It even smelled like raw meat still. I've worked in the food industry and this is fucking disgusting and not okay. The Grill has been one of my favorites since I went to school here in the late 90's. We stopped in Athens this weekend and were looking forward to a good burger, Feta fries, and milk shake. We walk in and there are only about 4 tables occupied, so I am thinking how lucky we are (I have been there many times over the years when it has been packed and there was a wait for a table). I see two employees standing near the back. Well they look at us come in and they have a brief conversation, evidently, about which one would come seat us. One girl even appeared to roll her eyes before coming up. Well we were seated and the girl tells us our waitress will be with us shortly. Nope. After 15 minutes of waiting, we got up and went to another restaurant. I was under the impression that it is a pretty straightforward process. We speak to someone and tell them there are things in the menu we would like to purchase. Those things are prepared and then brought to us. We pay for those things. That money is then used to cover the cost of the food and the labor to prepare the food and the labor to bring it to us. We can even pay additional money, known as a "tip", if the person bringing us said food is polite and attentive. Unfortunately, step one was never achieved and we were not even able to tell anyone that we would like to pay money for stuff. Oh, the restaurant we ended up at greeted us , took our order and we paid them. So it is possible. read more
