This place was exemplary. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, it was great all around. Started off with the trip of chargrilled oysters - different, but delicious. Entree was the redfish, and let me tell you this was the best fish I have ever had...and I've had a lot of fish. It was so dang good. Finished off with the chocolate cake and that was fantastic as well. I left completely satisfied to say the least! If you're looking for something different than your typical Baton Rouge stop, I'd highly recommend The Gregory. 10/10 will go again. read more

3.5 stars. The restaurant smelled like something was burning pretty much the whole time. They need better ventilation if they're going to have an open kitchen. The staff was pleasant and attentive, but the entree did take quite a while and there was only 4 occupied tables while we were there. The fried green tomatoes were quite different than any we've ever had. The tomato was strait up raw, but the breading wasn't bad. My entree was the red fish, which was pretty tasty. The fried potato leek fritters were awesome! They should sell those as an appetizer as well. So now for the dessert, which I hate to give a bad review because it was gratis. However, I want to be honest. We had the bread pudding, which was very dry and served in a searing hot cast iron ramekin. Be careful... you will burn yourself. I no longer have a finger print on my left index finger thanks to that little lava dish. They could rescue the recipe with some good creme anglaise and better plating, so it's not hopeless. With a few tweaks this restaurant could be a solid 4 star, maybe even 4.5. read more

The Gregory - Bars Near Me - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

If you want to spend too much money on food, you have better options. I was not impressed. However, the cheaper dishes actually seem the best. So, if you do go, stay in the shallow end of the pool. read more

We decided on a ladies night here on a fairly quiet Wednesday. The atmosphere was really nice, and i like the open room concept. There are so many small touches that made the experience special. While I like the tablet ideas, honestly, seeing the pictures of the food was kind of a turnoff for all of us. My friends each had a Manhattan to start with and they said the drink was really good. It was really hard to decide what to order, so we all took a different route. We had a few appetizers and ordered our dishes. The scallops were really good and cooked just right. My main dish was the redfish, and i highly recommend it. I wasn't turned on by the description, but it was way better than it sounded. As for the service, we did feel a bit neglected at times. While I certainly appreciate not being hovered over, we were there a lot longer than I really felt was necessary. It was nice to enjoy the company of friends, but there were times when we were looking around kind of wondering if were ignored. I will absolutely be back though, as it was really good food with a nice atmosphere. Perhaps a Saturday or Sunday lunch would be next.... read more

Our dinner was nice. Hunter made it a great experience as did the dining room manager. The swamp flatbread was excellent and The Gregory steak was seasoned but was cooked quite under. If you order the 8 oz filet you might want to order one level up from how you generally enjoy your steak to get the center done correctly and to your liking. The staff attention really made the experience where the kitchen missed. The background music was just a little loud and might have made the guests speak a little louder to each other. House wines were decent and complimented the meals. Many thanks to the dining staff. read more

It was amazing food and the service was great. A cool little place built in the old national bank!

Love this place! So elegant. Everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious. A must for lunch as well as for dinner for any special occasion or just 'cause. read more

Baton Rouge's newest and finest restaurant. Another elegant development from the Wampold Companies. Great location so close to the arts. The dining room is spectacular. The frescoes were restored. The decor is reminiscent of the 20s (Art Deco) with a mix of mid century. All staff members were so kind from valet to hotel lobby and most of all our server and waitstaff. Everyone was very knowledgeable of the building's history. The menu is digital. The neatest feature is when you click on an item you are able to see a photo of the item. Service was exceptional. The menu ranges from small plates to large individual entrees. Don't forget to check out the restrooms. Looking forward to try Milford's. read more

Came here on a Sunday night for special occasion dinner. We weren't super hungry but wanted to try as many things as possible, so we stuck to the small plates. Everything we tried was great. read more

This was our first time trying The Gregory in Baton Rouge (my girlfriend and I). Food was okay when accounting for the prices. We were very disappointed with the service we were given. Our waiter's name was Logan, and he was very rude to us. Multiple times he walked away mid sentence, and hardly ever checked up on us. There were only 3 other tables, so we were extremely displeased with the lack of attention we received. He took our left overs to the back to be packaged, brought us our check, and never saw our left overs after that. After waiting 10 minutes for Logan to appear, we finally gave up, and left without the leftovers. read more

This was the worst meal I've ever had. The wait was too long with fair service (very few people were in the restaurant when we were there). The sensation salad was awful- a small serving of bland iceburg lettuce, a few slices of mushy heirloom tomatoes , and a small amount of cheese with flavorless dressing. No bread was served with gumbo and when asked for some a few slices of stale, hard, flavorless bread were put on table. Beautiful hotel and restaurant but very disappointing food and weak menu choices. Will not return. read more

Enjoyed my meal, and the wait staff! The service was excellent and I loved the atmosphere. Definitely need to go back soon! read more

I had the opportunity to dine at the Gregory for my office Christmas dinner, and it did not disappoint! We were seated in a gorgeous former bank vault that had been repurposed as a private dining area and was stacked floor to ceiling with dramatically lit high end wine bottles. Our two servers waited on us hand and foot from helping select our drinks from an iPad menu to bringing out our 20+ entrees that were perfectly cooked and piping hot. I got an 8 oz filet which paired well with the Napa Red Prisoner with a gorgeous Goya print on the label. We didn't get much time to hang out in the cocktail area, but from the restored Art Deco reliefs on the walls to the crispy dressed and dutiful waitstaff, I felt I had been transported to another era. I would definitely recommend booking your next large event at the Gregory or just popping in for a drink to chat with their smart and dedicated waitstaff. read more

One word. Freaking Amazing . Good it was superb, service from Will was 2nd to none. The manager Tyray has this place on point!!! We had the watermark steak which was a very generous in size and cooked perfectly with a side of fresh buttery garlic mash potato. To top it off, we had the bread pudding. It was made fresh from the oven once we order it. WOW!! read more

We have been 2 times and both times were exceptional! First time got the fish and last time the steak. .probably one of my favorite steaks I have ever had. Atmosphere is great, drinks are delicious and the decor and scenery adds a good touch. The wine seller and downstairs old bank vault was pretty cool to see. Haven't stayed in the hotel yet, but have seen the rooms in person. (My hubby helped build this place) we plan to go for our 4 year anniversary read more

Excellent experience all around. My husband, daughter and I ate at the bar last night & we are so glad we found this gem! It's decor is hip and chic throughout the restaurant and the marble bar was beautiful. We loved the cool iPads that are the menus. When you clicked on each item it brought up great pictures of the items. (My ONLY critical words are that there were no hooks under the bar for women to hang their purses from) There were 3 employees behind the bar who were very very friendly & helped us decide what to order... bc everything looked amazing. They were very knowledgeable about the food, the craft cocktails and the wine. They were all so pleasant . I started out with the " best amaretto sour you'll ever have".... and it was! Served with whipped eggs whites and a gourmet cherry. We shared a dozen grilled oysters & a half dozen raw. The presentation was fabulous and they were absolutely delicious. My husband loved that they were served with 3 large and generous sides of horseradish, cocktail sauce, and another sweet and sour sauce. We also shared the vault burger, that was cooked perfectly. It was really juicy and served on a delicious roll with their homemade spicy mayo. We also the brussel sprouts with bacon , that are served in a hot cast iron crock. They were great too. And we finished our meal with the butternut squash bread pudding with whiskey sauce... which was to die for! I wasn't sure about squash in dessert, but it was excellent!! It also was served in a hot cast iron crock, as it is cooked to order. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back when we return to Baton Rouge. read more

Went with a party of 10 and the tables are so big that you feel you're eating down the street from each other. Thankfully midway through the meal someone suggested we ditch two tables and scrunch together - that saved the night, much more intimate. My wife said the cocktails were awful, quote, "how can a place like this not have good cocktails?" Food was, meh! Ambiance in restaurant was cool. In summary, looks like a place to be seen, not necessarily to dine with close friends that you actually would like to talk to. read more

Everything was to-die-for!! I loved The Wanderlust. We were a group of 7 teachers...some visiting from afar and we couldn't have asked for better service. I will NEVER eat here again. You would think at the price point and how it is advertised that this would be a classy establishment but it was EVERYTHING EXCEPT that. The first course of gumbo was disgusting and burnt. When I was supposed to receive my salad and the server gave my salad to the wrong person and I requested another she proceeded to tell me that my friend "stole" my salad and thats not her problem and when I told her I expected otherwise she screamed and said verbatim "IF YOU WANT ATTITUDE YOU'LL F***ING GET ATTITUDE" and stormed off. After this the general manager was completely handling the situation poorly and the server was blatantly lying at this point. They even had the AUDACITY to charge us all 22% gratuity that's supposed to go to someone who YELLED and CURSED in my face. This type of service I would expect from Popeyes on government street, not downtown on Third Street. Chic fil a gives better service and food than this place. The Gregory ruined a person birthday party that they paid so much money for. This establishment is embarrassing. I do not know the "servers" name but she's a Hispanic woman who is bilingual and the next day when I returned she was working as a bar tender. Maybe this establishment needs to hire professional people that know how to do their craft rather than throwing someone not qualified to serve a party of 15+ people. I also have to dispute this charge with my bank because the manager LIED and said he would return my money to my card, took my receipt, and never returned. This place is trash, from the staff, to the management, to the food. read more

Was looking forward to a good meal here as I have heard great things. Had a cocktail first and it was the weakest $10 pour I have experienced in the state of Louisiana. I gave it 2 stars because Kathy was cute and friendly. Not a great pourer, though. Off to find dinner! read more

I had such an amazing experience here. Mrs. Chaletta called the day before my reservation to confirm it. I stressed how important this dinner is and she put me at ease that this would go spectacularly. I got there, valet took great care of us, the doorman Bryson opened doors for us each, made eye contact and welcomed us! The bar made great drinks. Mrs. Chaletta seated us and made great conversation. Our server, Neily, was amazing. She was attentive when we needed her, and stayed back when business was being had. Not a drink went empty, or an item missing from the table. She boxed my to go, and bagged it and set it next to me when I didn't even notice. Chef Chelsea and Chef Justin made an amazing duck dish, frog legs to die for, and flat breads that were above the rest. Steak was cooked perfectly, and I believe those were the best French fries I've ever had!! I will always have my business dinners here! Great experience, great atmosphere, great people! Thank you!! read more

The bartender didn't know what mezcal was. I'm not saying every bar needs to have mezcal, but if your looking for it don't come here. Otherwise it's lovely. The do have Gnarly Barley Korova milk porter, which is the first local porter or stout I've physically seen in Downtown BR. However that's only because I haven't been to Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar yet. According to their menu they have the Nola Brewery Irish Channel Stout. My favs. read more

We enjoyed a lovely valentines dinner here. Our first time! It was perfect!! Katelyn was a great waitress! Gave suggestions but not pushy! Was right on! We had the steak Gregory and the pork chop! Cooked to perfection! Tender and tasty! Loved the sides with both! We had the valentine special chocolate dipped cheesecake! Divine! Should make it a regular! We also had corn dogs small plate to start that we loved too! Not too crowded at all and was romantic and classy! We definitely will return and highly recommend!! Good job!!! read more

We ate here for our wedding anniversary. I've been wanting to try this place out since it opened! The hotel lobby, bathrooms, and restaurant are all fantastically done, aesthetically. The menus at The Gregory are a little strange: they're on iPads. I would prefer a paper menu but that's probably just me... it was nice to see photos of the dishes by clicking on menu items for more information. Our waitress was a little overzealous, she checked on us way more than necessary, but I think I'd prefer that over having to flag someone down! We brought our own bottle of wine, and the corking fee was waived as a little anniversary gift to us. We also had wonderful conversation with the wine manager and got to try a couple different wines that we might like to have next time we visit. It was a nice personal touch. The food was delicious, my husband had the steak, and I had duck, with soup and oysters as first courses. Entree size was perfect, not too much (no leftovers) but enough to be filling. We had cheesecake for dessert. I'd recommend The Gregory and can't wait to go back! read more

Very good food and service. Fried oysters and pork belly was big oysters and little thin slice of belly like a thick bacon. I was really expecting a nice sized hunk of belly under each oyster. The jam smear was good but would have been better as a glaze on a big hunk of belly. The frog legs were tender and expertly grilled. Yes, grilled! They had that light smoky grill flavor usually imparted on grilled beefsteak. Much better than batter fried, and healthier. The shrimp and corn chowder was very peppery. Ok for me but not most others. It was more like a roux based cream sauce not like a white cream sauce. The Padron pepper app was really good and different. The peppers are grilled to burn the skin and fried quickly and served on a hot plate with a remoulade style sauce before the peppers get completely soft. They taste a little green and mild. The scallops were juicy and tender but not as big as diver scallops we've had before. Served on bed of grilled corn off the cob, delicious but costly for the two, inch and a quarter pieces. The butternut bread pudding was served in the hot, I say HOT, cast iron mini loaf pan. It was delicious and sweet with little pieces of butternut squash in it. Oh, and did I mention it was HOT!! We escaped without 80 of the dollars we came in with. read more

This place is beautiful. The moment you walk in, you are amazed. That is the best part of the restaurant, unfortunately. The staff is lovely and very respectful. We ordered The Lunch Express, it was... pretty bad. This included: chips, a cheese sauce, trout almandine, a salad, gumbo, and a chocolate mousse for 15 dollars. Sounds amazing, right. The chips were fine, and slightly oily. The cheese tasted like it could go on nachos (which isn't a bad thing). The chefs must have smoked a lot because the trout was incredibly salty. The salad was the best part, but that is a little hard to screw up. I am from New Orleans which is home to the gumbo, so I am a little bit picky, but it was horrendous. It had home made sausage in it, which took everyone a little while to realize what it was. The chocolate mousse wasn't bad, it was simple, with marshmallows. In conclusion, I would reconsider going to this place. read more

I was in town from Philadelphia and was not in the mood for the same ole Cajun fried or other greasy Louisiana cuisine. I stayed at the Watermark so I thought I'd try the hotel restaurant. In a word, wow! Everything was remarkable and did not compare to anything else I've ever had when I was in Baton Rouge before. For starters, the patron peppers were incredible. The red fish was light and was not covered in a heavy cream sauce as I've had it before. If staying in town, even if not at the Watermark, stop by for dinner. You want regret it! read more

The service and food is great at The Gregory at Watermark Hotel. The server was excellent at being there when you needed, but not hovering. She did give a little history of the artwork that is displayed in the restaurant. The restaurant is named after the artist. Had a date night there last night with my fiance. The inside in beautiful. The service was wonderful.I like the menus being on an ipad;very different & easy to use.Great wine selection by the bottle, not as much for the glass.I do think the prices for a glass were very high.$12 to $22 is insane for 1 glass.(yes I said glass)We had the oyster appetizer chargrilled. They were good, but very very small oysters.I had the ravioli main course and my other half had the redfish.Mine was fabulous, loved the flavor with the cheese mixed in it.I totally recommend that dish. The fish was good,as well. The portion sizes were a complete joke. You do not get what you pay for in portion sizes. Here in the south we are use to getting a larger size,do not go here if you are looking for a take home box.Don't get me wrong,I was satisfied when done, but it was just enough.Aside from it all, I enjoyed our dinner. The ambiance and staff were an A+. read more
