The old house maintains a lot of quaint touches.

This place is right off of State Rt 41 and hard to miss. The atmosphere is quaint and unique. Staff is very warm and welcoming. It makes all the difference. This is deep, rural Ohio. As Indian Americans it was important to us to find a good, safe place (especially with current spate of violence against AAPI). This place made us feel very welcome. I docked one star because literally no one was wearing masks. They do have a sign on the front that says "maaks required" but none of the employees or other patrons were following the rule. Good place to grab a quick bite and some coffee. They have smoothies too. I found out that they are a popular afterschool hangout for local highschool kids. Highschool lets out at 2PM and Elementary at 3:30. So the older siblings hang back for younger ones. Thats so cool that they help keep kids safe. The lady who works there will sometimes stick littke notes under chairs with prizes on them. The kid who sits on the chair wins. They also have bible study there every Thursday.. The house itself was built in 1800s. It originally sat in the middle of where SR 41 passes through today. It used to be owned by a doctor when the highway work started in 1900s. He paid to have it moved to the current spot, maintaing its charm and character.

Very sweet little bakery and cafe tucked into the Heritage Station Visitors Center…read more While I didn't try any pastries on this visit, they had an array of impressive-looking gluten free options. I got a cortado, which was decent, and the empanada special (1 chicken + 1 beef) with a cup of the coconut curry miso -- the food was excellent, especially the soup. The service was good, and the ambiance is moody and quirky, with a rustic retro vibe. It's a great place to study or read a book.

Their offerings are impressive, and include a dessert spread and empanadas and other food cooked to order. They are notable for having several vegetarian and vegan items, which is not always easy to find in this part of the country or in this cuisine. They were out of some things, and notably I had to switch from a more interesting kale salad to their basic one, which had a few dodgy leaves that weren't the freshest but overall was fine. My lentil empanada was of a good size and was robustly filled. It's this sort of thing that I think of when I see places that don't offer plant-based options. It's delicious. It's recognizable, real food. Why not offer something like this? Their dessert selection included a GF vegan case with one type of muffin in it, and some more conventional and splendid looking creations that I did not have room for. My light lunch satisfied, and I'm sure dessert would have been good as well.
