I dined at this restaurant a week or so ago with a couple friends, my young daughter and my husband. It's very small and quiet and the staff are very efficient and friendly. I ordered the pumpkin curry with shrimp, which was probably the best meal I've had in a long time. The flavor was excellent, very rich and creamy. The portion was perfect - not too little, not too much. Everything about it was fabulous. My daughter and husband both enjoyed their selections, as well. No complaints! We followed the good reviews posted elsewhere but wonder what we overlooked. We received a friendly greeting and very good service but the food was not good. Between two of us we had the Beef Rolls and Spring Rolls which suffered from too little inside the flaky but too thick wrappers. The shrimp and chicken with the fried rice were way overcooked as was the chicken on the King Stir Fry. There were lots of customers but I'm lost as to what they were drawn by. Although clean the atmosphere was more of a take-out layout despite no take-out orders being visible. We will not be giving The Green Mango a second chance. read more

First time here after hearing about it for years. I had the Pad se Ew with shrimp and my friend has the Pad Thai with chicken. Both were tasty but had no heat. Food was not good and not to my liking. I told the young boy why I didn't like it and he said he would give the meal to me for free. I told him that wasn't needed and offered to pay, he said no. I have not been to The Green Mango since it moved to its current location in the plaza next to Sheetz so when I was looking for a very quick bite before an event in Monroeville, it was the right choice. The service was courteous and efficient. My order came out of the kitchen even quicker than I expected. The price was higher than I had expected because I ordered a dish with tofu as my protein. I stopped here for lunch with 2 coworkers. We were a bit past peak lunch hours, so we managed to avoid a crowd. The dining area was small with minimal decor, but it provided a pleasant and casual experience. The waiter was friendly and let us sit at any open table. I ordered the pad see ew, which is always one of my favorites dishes at any Thai restaurant. The flavor did not disappoint and I was satisfied with spice level at a 3/10 on their scale. My coworkers ordered different things and they all enjoyed their meals as well. There aren't many options for Thai food in Monroeville, but this place holds its own even with the more well known places in the city. I remember noticing their sign at their old location across the street, but I never managed to stop in until today. I forgot to specify that I wanted Thai hot. Actually, the entree had a good spice and heat level. Handsome hubby and I came here on a Monday night. We were pretty frazzled and just wanted to relax. Unfortunately the noise coming from the kitchen/ prep space was very loud. We could hear every word coming from the conversations as if we were in the room with them. It made it hard to relax and enjoy our food. It's a ' meh' and ' I won't be purchasing from here again.' To share my experience, my family and I ordered take - out. I gave the rating of 3 stars and not 2 because the woman who took my order on the phone was understandable, pleasant, and helpful in answering questions. She also gave me a total at the end and ordering over the phone was a simple, streamlined experience. The food was a bit of the different story . I highlighted the items I ordered on the menu. Out of all three of what we ordered the Classic Pad Thai was average but the best of what we got. The Drunken Noodles had barely a flavor and almost an odd smell to it. The Pas Se Eu was just sad and wrong of them to serve us. I wish I checked prior to getting home to see that the rice noodles were literally wobbly, overdone , smashed together gelatinous mush. My son and I walked in at 8 when they closed at 9. The waitress was so angry she was unable to be decent. She threw menus on the table then walked away. When she returned she said "What do you want?" Before our food came out she walked to the table and said "do you want to order any dessert before the kitchen closes?" It was 8:15 and they are open til 9! I had my back to her and my son said she was giving him dirty looks and making him uncomfortable. She served our food wearing purple gloves that she was wearing to clean. Once our food came out she yelled into the kitchen "You can go home now!!!" I have never been treated so rudely in my life. The samosas tasted like they came out of a box. My son's curry was inedible. My drunken noodles were a step up from inedible, but thar's not saying much. The chiang mai noodles (my favorite Thai dish) were literally just not chiang mai. At least not the kind I've had a million times elsewhere. It was not curry at all. It tasted ok but was very oily. This was our first meal in Pittsburgh and we love thai food, it is flavorful a joy to consume. Though we were warmly welcome by the host and the server, the food was disappointing. As I mentioned we have had our fair share of Thai food over the years, but the food at this restaurant was bland. Nobody asked how spicy we wanted anything, nor did they bring any spices to the table. We had to ask and all we got was chili paste. Noddle dishes were flavorless and sticky. Wow... this place has gone downhill fast. The last two times we went here (once an order-in, once a dine-in), the food tasted awful. The Pad Thai was greasy and had no flavor, no spice. I have been going to Green Mango for more than fifteen years!! When I called, they knew my voice and knew what I wanted to order. Unfortunately, they have a new person who was rude, impersonal and demeaning!! Upon calling my order in, the waitress was very impatient and barely gave me enough time to give my order. I was given a gift card to use and she told me it declined; meanwhile she was entering it as a credit card as opposed to gift card that caused the discrepancy. Final straw was when I asked for hot sauce and she scowled at me?!!!! I asked another waitress to have the owner contact me so I could report this person, but never received any response. The Green Mango is one of the only options for thai really central to the Monroeville area without traveling to Edgewood (thai cottage!) or downtown. To start, the dining room is pretty small, so you can expect to wait during peak lunch hours; surprisingly, I've never had to wait for dinner, as the place is usually a ghost town at that time. The decor and ambiance is just kinda blah. Service can be really slow or really fast, you never know. My favorite dish is the ginger chicken stir fry which comes with white rice, and I also like the pumpkin curry. I'm not a personal fan of the chicken or shrimp spring rolls here. I like that they bring you the big bottles of water so you can give yourself refills, and it's nice that their hours are open all day without the typical break in the afternoon like many other Thai restaurants in the city. Overall, I like green mango more for takeout or for a quick bite. If you are looking for a nice sit down thai meal, you have much better options in Pittsburgh. read more

It was delicious and the portion was large. I gave 3 stars because we were told that they were only serving dinner portions (and therefore charged dinner pricing) while it was still lunchtime. I love Thai food. I love just good Thai food. I have tried numerous places around the city. There is a really good one in the strip but this place is closer to home so I wanted to try. I've wanted to try for a while. Finally did get to try and I am sorry to say that I wish that I would have earlier. We dined in for our food and we're greeted immediately. The server was more pleasant then I could have ever asked for. She did not try and rush us. She made some suggestions to my fiancé's questions. The food was ready pretty quickly too. My yellow curry was awesome! The flavors were near perfect, spice level where I wanted and was just over the right size for me. I'm a 6'2 230 lb guy so sometimes it's not enough or stupid way too much food. This is a smaller place so you could have a wait but normally they seem to have a few tables open.
