We found ourselves in Jacksboro at lunchtime and discovered this little gem. They had a salad bar/buffet that looked amazing, but I was drawn to the chicken and dumplings. It was a great choice! My guy enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich. The food was fresh the server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was clean and really homey. There was also free ice cream! We definitely will go again if our travels take us back to Jacksboro. read more

Food was delicious! The ranch is homemade, and the service was excellent! We will definitely be back. Today we tried the buffet. They had chicken fried steak and pork roast. Both were very good. Service is competent but hampered by a kitchen that is very slow. Restaurant is sparsely occupied, 5 pm on a Saturday. It has been 45 mins and still waiting on a chicken fried steak. What little food has been delivered (a side salad) has been fine but nothing to write home about. Many "best this" and "best that" signs on the wall inside. It strains credibility of the publications proclaiming these accolades to believe the Green Frog earned any of them. Update: chicken fried steak delivered. Average at best. read more

The waitresses saw us come in and sit down. We were never greeted. We sat down and waited forever for at least a menu and didn't even get that. As soon as one of their friends came in, they were instantly greeted and handed a menu. (Mind you the place is pretty much empty) We just walked out. No need to ever go there again. read more

I've been stopping here occasionally for 30 years. The buffet is very southern and always delicious home cooking. Service is attentive and the restaurant is clean and tidy. I'm glad they have endured since the 50's and I wish them continued prosperity. read more

Tried to visit this location and it was 30 mins before they closed. We were told we weren't allowed to eat here because they were closing. Lots of people were still eating and one customer came up to us and said that was unacceptable and that she herself was just about to start eating so she wasn't sure why we were turned away. Holy - Moly the portions here are huge! The service is great. The catfish is delicious. I ordered the large, but it was so much we had to take some home. The chicken tender platter is so big also. The fries were are good and crispy. The fried yellow squash is the best I've ever had. Nice squash flavor. Good place to eat, I would go back for sure. I can't wait to try the meatloaf. read more

This place was wonderful! We were just passing through and decided to try it. The BEST (huge) chicken tenders that were hand breaded and delicious. Highly recommended! A Great Find! My wife and I came for lunch and had the buffet. We started with their salad bar...everything was nice and fresh. A great note is they don't water their dressings down. Moving on to the main buffet we had CFS and chicken pot pie. Both really good and hot. Mashed potatoes were light and fluffy still having some lumps in them. Fried okra and green beans rounded it out. Our server,Jackie, was very friendly, and kept up with our tea and plates. We didn't have dessert, too full lol. 3/25/23 If your hungry dont pass up on the historic Green Frog in downtown Jacksbro,Tx you won't be disappointed you did . We stopped in with a rather large group unexpectedly and was seated very quickly and the service staff was great. If your looking for that country home cook meal than this is the place. The chicken fried steak and fixings was spot on off the lunch buffet but every thing we ordered was excellent . The new ownership has done great things with this place and the food was 100% better than i remember it before we will definitely be returning to enjoy it again . read more

The Green Frog has reopened with great breakfasts and the traditional lunch buffet. Th Ed place is clean and fresh inside with friendly, attentive staff and really good food. It's nice to get a thick slice of ham and two slices of toast with your eggs and hash browns. read more
